Peggy May's Café is an absolute gem. Situated on High Street, which is the main road through Lyndhurst, it has an ideal location with a NFDC car park about five minutes walk away. This was my first visit. Living so close to Lyndhurst, we don't usually eat out there, but Mrs Philmex1 suggested it as a good place to eat. I wasn't disappointed. I ordered the chicken and halloumi wrap, changing the mayoracha sauce for ordinary mayonnaise. It was one of the best wraps I've ever had. The filling was generous and it tasted so good. Mrs Philmex1 had a baked spud with cheese and beans and thoroughly enjoyed it. It certainly looked good with plenty of fillings. The staff we encountered were lovely - very polite, friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. Though busy, Peggy May's had a lovely atmosphere which enhanced our meal. Excellent in every respect!

After passing this place numerous times over the years, I had the opportunity to visit today, I had a milkshake and pancakes with peanut butter and banana, absolutely delicious, I was the only diner and unfortunately today was their last day of trading, I'm so glad I finally got a visit in, such a shame it's closing tbh, very good food/service at a reasonable price

Terrible booking system. Reserved a sitting for 3 families with children which the computer then rescheduled for 3 hours later without asking and only a bot to speak to. Nothing available when we arrived. Unacceptable. Also the whole place looked quite tired and sad.

Truly awful - and no suitable toilets. The food we were served was below average, the coffees were unfortunately not good at all. The service from the woman running the cafe was disgraceful. She seemed off from the outset, and was downright rude in the end after one of our group was reduced to tears by her behaviour. Most importantly the toilet was not suitable for visitors to use, you have to squeeze through the kitchen which is open to the seating area to get to the toilet, which is extremely close to where food is being prepared and completely inaccessible for anyone with mobility issues. The toilet door did not shut, so the woman who runs the cafe had to slam shut another door in order for there to be any privacy (and any level of hygiene), which then resulted in one of our party being trapped inside the toilet unable to get out. When another member of our party was eventually able to force the door open from the outside and the person who was trapped was understandably shaken at the experience, the women running the cafe had the nerve to tell her to calm down, and then denied having said anything at all. All in all it was a horrendous experience, no redeeming features - this unfortunate situation could have been helped with a kind manner but instead was made much worse. Avoid. We will be making a formal complaint to the food standards agency. A bizarre and upsetting experience!

Booked three nights here in February, a decent room (121) with a king-size bed, table and 2 armchairs. Bathroom was a good size, nice hot shower over the bath. Room was warm but we had to turn the radiator down and open the window at night during our stay. We always bring our own pillow to hotels as the ones provided, as in this case, tend to be hopeless. Breakfast was good and we were told there were gluten-free options as my wife is a coeliac. However, no GF cereals on offer, just bread/toast so she had to bring her own cereals. The marmalade and greek yoghurt are each supplied in a large bowl for people to help themselves so a risk of contamination there from other people's food which is always a worry for coeliacs. So my wife had to bring her own marmalade to breakfast each morning and couldn't risk the yoghurt on her fruit. Why not have a few individual marmalades or yoghurt pots available back in the fridge for your coeliac guests? Similarly at dinner - a gluten-free option is the hamburger but they didn't have any gluten-free buns. Er... how about having some in the freezer? Apart from that we enjoyed our stay here, spent a lot of time in the lounges reading the paper and chilling out. Special thanks to the waitress in the dining room every evening, herself a coeliac, who looked after us with our meal choices.
