On this occasion I had come in to buy a plant for a family member. I had an empty food container with me and as there is usually a rubbish bin by the entrance, I was going to deposit it. However, the black bin was no longer there. I asked an assistant if it had been moved he told me, we do not have it anymore for recycling reasons! And to drop off at the kiosk to the right as you enter. I did this. There was a small queue, so I politely asked if the assistant could deposit for me and left in her sight but away from the customers. I was very surprised with her manner. She was incredibly rude and I had to walk away very quickly as could feel myself becoming upset. I mentioned this to the initial assistant and I think he passed on my concern As a family, we shop here on a regular basis

What should have been a lovely occasion spoiled by the condescending manager. We visited the Quayside on New Year’s Eve, two couples with our toddlers and assistance dog during a special trip to the Lake District. Upon arrival we were questioned about our dog and explained he is an assistance dog, and the servers were absolutely fine with this. We offered to pop his badges on and the server said there was no need. We sat and enjoyed our meal, our food was nice - we had the lamb Henry and the sirloin steak. We had just finished our meal, and suddenly the manager popped round to say ‘did nobody tell you you can’t have dogs here??’ In a very condescending tone. We explained the situation very calmly and he accepted this, but he never apologised, he said he had just came on shift and didn’t know - seems like he was desperate to come round and give us a row. As any parent will know it’s impossible to keep toddlers still for long so we were walking about the carpeted area with our babies (no other table in the area was occupied). Suddenly the manager reappeared saying ‘listen I know it’s an assistance dog but just stay in your area - other people are complaining’. He acted as if we were swanning around the restaurant, when in reality my toddler had walked out a little further than the carpet, under my supervision holding the dog on the lead. We didn’t argue and said we were leaving anyway - we didn’t want this to ruin our night but it left a real sour taste in our mouth. Our dog wasn’t making any fuss; our babies were far louder. It’s just sad the attitude of the manager distracted from the meal and the occasion. I’m sure the staff will know who I’m referring to - his attitude wasn’t mirrored by the rest of the staff - the young team were perfectly polite, sweet to our children and happy to help us. Having spent over £160 in the place we expected better on such a special night - maybe he was annoyed he was landed with the New Year’s Eve shift.

Excellent overnight stay on way back from the Scotland NC500 route. Having stayed in 8 places in 2 weeks this was an absolute highlight for all the family. Perfect location from the north and to continue our drive south. Friendly welcoming staff, stylish but comfortable decor, very comfy beds, spacious rooms and lovely bathrooms. Food was all incredible for our evening meal and service excellent. We were so full we could only manage a continental breakfast in the morning! Recommended to us by our neighbours and we would recommend to all. Made the end of our trip really special and enjoyable. We shall return.

We only went for food and we can honestly say the from the moment we went in, the welcome was a warm one. The staff were very attentive and the owner was such a lovely lady. We would definitely go back to eat and stay there the next time we are in the area.

£17 for a bacon sandwich, sausage sandwich and 2 teas ! Waited 30 mins for the order and watched serving staff clean the bristles of a floor brush behind the bar. When asked where my order was I was told "oops sorry I forgot it"! When the sandwiches arrived they were awful, overcooked, tasteless and tired.

Delicious food and great service - we had a number of dietary requirements (dairy allergy and coeliac) and the team couldn’t do enough for us, checking details with the kitchen and giving us a lovely lunch. They clearly take a lot of care with their food prep - a great local cafe

Great service compliments the menu which always has a Sunday roast dinner on Sundays. You need to book in advance to ensure of a table at your chosen time as there is nothing worse than being turned away and having to wait for a table.

Very limited menu very expensive,no decent priced children’s meals,no variety on menu apart from change of pie ,very little vegetarian options, not a particularly well executed menu, unfortunately it’s impossible to get any food delivered to hotel as it’s in the middle of nowhere,I would never book this restaurant

We arrived in lovely sunshine but were disappointed to find that contrary to the impression given in the advertisement by Lakeland Retreats of sitting on your decking enjoying the sun there is no sun as the Lawns is surrounded by high trees making the interior constantly dark. You have to put the lights on for your breakfast and if you eat in later in the day then also. My partner decided to have a bath the first night but unfortunately contrary to the management company's assertion that there's a constant supply of hot water the hot water ran out and the water turned cold. This happened twice as it did to our neighbours in the adjoining Lakeland Retreats property. We normally have a cooked breakfast on a Sunday but we were appalled to find that the two frying pans supplied were pitted with rust and unusable. Finally as the season turned from summer to autumn the evenings got a little nippy. We tried to turn up the storage radiators but found that the controls are blocked by wooden brackets screwed over the radiators so you can't use them. A beautiful area but we won't be using Lakeland Retreats again if this is the standard they aspire to!
