The best restaurants serving British food in Halton North West

The service was very good. Sunday lunch was excellent,2 lamb,1 beef. Very tasty and both meats top quality. We usually have Sunday lunch at a restaurant we frequent in Cheshire, but we can all honestly say this meal was better. Nice atmosphere but as we ate early it was quiet but by the time we left the restaurant was very busy.

Lovely friendly staff. Got served quickly. All tables were clean and free from rubbish.

My friend and I popped in on our lunch break for a mug of tea. We shared New York baked cheesecake and chocolate brownie. They were both delicious. We have had the lovely scones on previous visits, and they come served warm.

The staff that cook the food smoke regularly outside the cafe front window one pegged a fag with her fingers,my stomach rolled we had to leave very unhygienic

We had lunch with our walking club here after a walk to Spike Island. The staff kindly allowed us to leave our cars in the car park during our walk. Lunch was lovely -fresh & homemade. The staff were all very friendly and made us so welcome. The outside of the pub looks a little tired but inside is bright and welcoming.

Arrived for tea, very busy but found a table in the alcove. The standard of cleanliness was appalling, the wall was covered in food stains, marks and generally filthy. The menu offers food at inflated prices likely secondary to increased costs etc. We left and went to the Griffin in Bold and had a great meal. Such a shame that our local has taken a turn for the worse. Get the place deep cleaned and a refresh.

Good quality food, lots of choice, however there is a lack of meat dished up, the carvery chef took turkey off my plate, he had only put one slice on and cut this in half and removed it from my plate, after I asked for a slice of beef. I noticed other customers received more. I am a regular customer and eat here most weekends and I have noticed it seems to be one particular chef that is not very generous with the meat. I recently visited the Carlisle branch which was completely different, very generous portions of meat, would definitely recommend Carlisle, as I am a regular customer at the Widnes branch, I have noticed the lack of meat is consistent, I visited during the week and received more meat, however there was a different chef on duty.

Treated my friend and I to an apple Charlotte each. Returned home, one cake in the box and the other side of the box stuffed with paper. The girl only heard me ask for one which turned out to be £3.30 for one little cake!! If she had given me 2 then I would have queried £6.60.

Typically people who have a negative one time experience tend to leave reviews. I have consistently gone to this sweet dessert place for five years now. Not once have I had a bad experience either with the food or the people who run it including the people behind the counter. My food has always been properly cooked, steaming hot and full of goodies with no holding back on the extras. I’ve had their pancakes or waffles there ice cream shakes I’ve sampled almost everything on the menu. It has been a once a week treat for me and my friends for five years and it has been consistently excellent service and excellent food. The people behind the counter I’ve been over the top warm and friendly unlike a lot of encounters in businesses around here who sometimes make the customer feel like they are putting them out to serve them. They make a point of giving you a friendly greeting warm and inviting when you walk in the door and are always glad to see you when you come and unlike some other places make you feel like they appreciate your business every single time. The food is to die for if you have a sweet tooth and everything is made fresh with the freshest ingredients. The fruit Is fresh, the batter is made fresh every day. I have watched them go through candy bars to check for expiration dates and any bananas with the slightest Brown get tossed. If you haven’t tried them please give them a try before paying any mind to the negative reviews of someone who may have had a one-off bad experience years ago. I promise you will not regret it.

Shocking food. Ordered the salt and peppers chips and they were dreadful. Chips were soggy and the salt and pepper was nowhere to be seen. Not a proper Chinese this at all. And my mate ordered a cheeseburger and he said that Birds Eye burgers was better. Undercooked by the grumpy burger and kebab maker. To many items on the menu cater for the kids in the sixth form college down the road. Avoid at all cost

The food was delightful - compliments to the chef and the service was excellent - Even though all the staff were nice and friendly- the two young lads Owen & Jamie provided an excellent service and both worked very hard. They were friendly and helpful - Nice to see these days - will definitely visit again.
