Cu Restaurant in Halton

The service was very good. Sunday lunch was excellent,2 lamb,1 beef. Very tasty and both meats top quality. We usually have Sunday lunch at a restaurant we frequent in Cheshire, but we can all honestly say this meal was better. Nice atmosphere but as we ate early it was quiet but by the time we left the restaurant was very busy.

Cosy pub and comfortable Resturant at the Hillcrest Hotel. Lots of parking. Very relaxed atmosphere. Standard pub grub. Tasty mains and excellent desert. The service was fantastic. Been here twice. Prices reasonable for a hotel restaurant.

Just a short review, I visited as usual for my company's xmas dinner, it was average. Considering this is supposed to be a high class hotel, obviously the chefs arn't. The turkey and beef were ok, not great, but the rest of the lunch was below par. I only go to see old work colleagues, certainly not the food and if I were paying I'd be pretty upset with the standard. If it was up to me I'd go somewhere else but obviously have a continuous booking. CU restaurant, get some better chefs!

The meal and everything was OK, we felt quite cold on arrival and forgot that once the drinks and food arrived. Very good , what you would expect. Very clean toilets and great staff, not too chatty tho, took orders and went , sometimes you want a bit of banter with the staff. No complaints though, all was good.

The meal we had on Friday night was fresh hot and delicious I had the chicken breast on mustard mashed potatoes with green beans and peppercorn sauce my husband had the Ammon steak with eggs and chips

Fantastic organisation and such a lovely treat. I took my mum and other family members to a Mothers Day meal. The staff were really helpful and friendly. A three course meal plus coffee and a little gift for all the mums. The hotel had put on entertainment which was a disco catering for young children and although there was no small children in our party it was a pleasure to see the children playing games rather than just running about . All the mums in our party thoroughly enjoyed both the food and the care and attention given to us . Thank you and definitely booking for next year.

Lovely restaurant with friendly staff but had an hour to wait for main course even although restaurant wasn't busy on a Friday night. No apology or reason given. Food was a bit dry.

The food was great and the service was excellent While the menu isn't extensive, the meals were well cooked. The copper decor is eye catching and very impressive

I've been here and seen the wires hanging from the ceiling cupboards upstairs. Food for functions obviously kept warm for a while. Not impressed.

I'm a bit late writing this but better late than never. This was the second Christmas Day in succession for us. We chose it because it's local and very cheap (£49 per head for adults). The food was perfectly acceptable and we really enjoyed it. The service was great and the children received chocolate too. I have had better food previously but paid an awful lot more that £49 for it. Well done to all at the Hillcrest!!

Went there for a Christmas Dinner Carvery, paid £20 and ended up being served with a plated meal of appalling quality, meat disgraceful, vegetables awful, everything piled high on the plate, turkey accompaniments served with the leathery over cooked beef. Tried to complain and claim refund but turned down. Would never go there again and would strongly recommend others to avoid

We went for works Christmas meal. The waitress was fantastic, no complaints there. The food was dreadful, the meat was so tough, the potatoes were anemic, the Yorkshire pud, you could smash a window with it and the gravy was like p**s water, one word 'awful' . The drinks are really really expensive.

It was a very disappointing experience booked for a family celebration and it failed as soon as we arrived they weren't ready for us the service extremely slow and the food was extremely lacking one main had items missing one main was completely returned the side order of mixed veg was someone missing the mixed veg and even on the puddings again one portion was missing an item they clearly need to get their chef to read their own menu to see what should be included on the dish. I most certainly will not recommend here nor return here ,most sad as been here on previous occasions and everything was good something needs looking at here for it to be so bad.

Well I had something to eat while staying at the hotel. Gammon, simple yes? No pineapple, fried egg instead. £8.95 seemed ok. So ariverd a small piece of gammon, egg yolk burst and cooked though, folded onto the plate as it had spread to much in the pan and frozen chips, not great ones, no peas tomato mushrooms nothing, English mustard please, sorry no mustard English, French, American, nothing, pity the burgers then. To add insult to the injury, I was charged £2.50 for a pint of fizzy water half of which was ice with a splash of lime juice, my choice to have very little lime. In short I will not eat here again, however this is not a reflection on the hotel

All i have to say is the food was good it was affordable friendly staff and really good atmosphere in the bar you have darts or pool if you want to have a quick match before dinner but overall its a really good place to eat and sleep.

As the title says, simpe choices, good honest food. Reasonably priced too. Nice friendly relaxing atmosphere.

Lovely ambiance in the restaurant. The hotel restaurant is very comfortable and the service fantastic.

Beautiful meal in a spacious restaurant, duck and orange pate, CU prawn cocktail, vegetable lasagne and vanilla cheesecake went down a treat in our family meal! Quality and Quantity were of high standards and prices were great value for money!

Excellent food, excellent staff. Great choice of menu. Pleasant surroundings. Restaurant is clean and bright and is themed with copper. Well worth a visit.

We ate here xmas 2012 and it was excellent, the service, the food everything. This year 2013 we booked again. The experience had changed to what I can only describe as my heading!!! Bad all round, the only good thing was the food it was very good for xmas dinner, however the experience was like being in Benidorm with a gang of drunk british holidaymakers with kids running wild! Best thing about the year before was that we had table service, when booking again we checked and were told ' Yes ' table service again, on arrival it was clear to see that this year was nothing more than a que up carvery xmas dinner! fighting through a crowd of people & queing up is not what we expected for £45 per person. Most of the staff were terrible in what they were trying to do apart from the manager or supervisor who looked after us, he was doing his best among obvious inept staff. Little things also really brought home how poor this experience was like chairs were awful cheap along with xmas crackers, drinks, table cloth all just cheap & tacky as i described 3 star at best. We are not ultra fussy people read my other reviews if you think im being too harsh, the food good:-) the service & experience for what we paid - TERRIBLE, we will not be returning next year & feel sorry for the other diners as for this kind of money you deserve better :-(

Had a lovely meal on a recommendation of a friend the steak I had was lovely and my dessert was excellent and home made, would certainly go again, the staff where very friendly and offered us an alternative.

went to the hillcrest on a recomendation, the lamb i had was excellent and the dessert was even better, would certainlly go again and the rest of our group also really enjoyed there food as well.The staff where freindly and offered us alternatives and would definetly go again.

The table d'hote menu was small but fine. The portion sizes were ridiculously small and did not include vegetables. Had the staff informed us of this then I would have ordered side portions to accompany the meal.

Family Sunday lunch, food was fantasic, waitresses were delightful and attentive! One of the best chocolate brownies I have ever tasted!

i had never been here before .. and it was reccomended by someone ... the service and staff were brill and the staff exceptionaly friendly and willing to offer an alternative if there was something that you didnt like or there was something else you would prefer ....i think that they should consider a gluten free option on the menu ... i think they should do a carvery more often ... i would definatly visit again and recomend to others ...

Came here with the family for the Carvery 1st Sunday of every month. Food excellent , staff very friendly and excellent value for money. No Apple Crumble but the alternative was lovely

Went here mid week as we fancied a meal after a hard day. Served by holly who was lovely and attentive. Food was really good my steak was cooked to perfection and the chips where lovely hubby had lamb again cooked to perfection. Dessert was nice ordered to my personal taste. Overall a lovely meal good value for the standard of food we got. Decided to take the family for a carvery Sunday ! With all the restaurants in Widnes this is by far the best meal and value.

The cu restaurant is actually the Hillcrest’s own restaurant, but it is so good that itdeserves its own review.This was our second visit and I would say it was even better than the first time, theirmenu is a little limited and their portions are a little on the smaller side, but whatthey do have they do it very well.On this occasion we were a party of four. We chose the chicken dish and the fish dish andwe all agreed that they were very nicely presented and very enjoyableWe then followed that by the rhubarb crumble. There were unfortunately a couple ofnegatives points, the restaurant seemed to be very draughty, the main courses didn’t seemto come with much in the way of vegetables, these have to be ordered as sides. But we will be returning as we all enjoyed our meals.

I really would have thought that they could do better than achieve 2 stars out of 5, which makes me wonder what is going wrong in their kitchens. it has put us off going back. . .

The menu at Cu is superb. The food is presented really well and the taste and quality excellent. The staff are really friendly. Excellent dining experience.

1st time in the new look Hillcrest Cu restaurant, took my family of 2 adults 2 children under 10, seated at table 5, lots of space happy that it wasnt to crowded, table dressed to perfection, a generous 5 course meal with tea/coffee, food was better than expected, service was good but had better from waitresses at Pesto, price wasnt cheap but overall considering its Christmas Day it was worth what we paid IMO ( £172 ) kids were given a wrapped present which is a nice touch will be returning in near future 100%.

A delicious menu, freshly cooked and really tasty. The presentation was first class and the price very reasonable as you can choose either two or three courses. Excellent

Recently organised a Surprise 50th Birthday Celebration meal for my husband, at the Cu Restaurant at the Hillcrest Hotel,Widnes. 36 guests in total. From my initial enquiry, I found all the staff, especially Ionel extremely professional and helpful, they assisted me in sorting out menu's, for adults, children and fussy teenagers !!! a challenge in itself. Aswell as wine lists, seating plans and table decorations. Ionel suggested that we pre ordered our food as we had a large number of guests, he was kind enough to supply me with menus to send out to the guests. This proved a great sucess as the service was outstanding, with everyone getting there chosen menu efficiently. The food was fantastic,mouth watering, presentation was outstanding, every dish was of excellent quality and served pipng hot.Every single guest commented on the fine food and excellent service, my husband was totally overwhelmed by the whole evening. I would personally like to thank Ionel for helping me organise the whole surprise celebration and a special thanks to Chloe and Hollie (waitresses) and the young waiter whose name escaped me, all worked extremely hard to make the night a great success. I would highly recommend this establishment to all thanks a million.

Reading on its website about 2 courses for £13.95 and kids under 5 eat free, my husband and I took our 4 year old daughter for Sunday lunch. The room is massive and we were the only diners except one more table of 4 people. Because of this, it does lack atmosphere but it has been nicely refurbished. The food is really lovely and well worth the £13.95. The drinks are a bit pricey, £5.95 for a glass of house wine but we thought we were getting a good deal on the food so didn't mind. When the bill came they had charged us £7.95 for a child's meal. When I asked about it, the waitress said she would ask a manager. She was sent back over with a message from the manager (who was sat 20 yards away at reception) to say all they can do is apologise and it's head office's responsibility to keep the website upto date and the offer had finished on 31st July. We paid the bill and left. When I got home I read the flyer that the waitress had given me with my receipt. It gave an oppertunity for 20% off our next visit when presented at the start of our dinner. At the bottom, in tiny writing was 'only vali in July & August 2012' Useful I thought, if I had a time machine.

on the 15th september 2012 me, my partner and two of are friends went to the cu restaurant at the hillcrest hotel widnes. me and my partner had eaten at the restaurant before and want to show are friends as it had been refurbished and looked new and fresh.when we walked into the restaurant we was welcomed by a young female who showed us to are table, the restaurant was very busy unlike last time we had been there.we all had a 3 course meal which was fantastic, i had the duck which i would really recommend as it was cooked perfect!! i would just like to say thank you to the chef as we never got to thank him in person.on this night there was only two staff in and one of them was a manager called dean who we have spoke to at the cu restaurant before, i would like to say that you to dean and his staff member who made us feel very welcome.i would recommend your try this restaurant.thank you to the team at the hillcrest mr&mrs birmingham

We booked this restuarant online and were hoping for a nice meal, sadly we were extremely disappointed i.e. quail egs hard boiled/pigeon breast rare...........atmosphere in the restaurant was non-existent as it was a large room with only a few people in there............on the positive side the staff were great and couldn't do enough for you, sadly we won't be going back.

Very impressed with this resturant. The menu is really varied and the food is top quality and very well presented. The staff were very proffesional and helpful. Will definitly return

We visited this place when it first opened and were disappointed. But we decided to give it another try and very pleasantly surprised. The food was great and the tables were really well presented. The only downside is, is that it was very quiet and lacked atmosphere. We will definitely go again.

This hotel has a very pleasantly designed restaurant called CU, their menu is quiteinventive, it is a set menu which comprises of approximately five starters, five maincourses and four sweets. We were attended to by a very polite and professional gentleman.Their menu gives a very good description of what each dish has and what it comes with. Wewere informed that their menu changes every two to three months. When the dishes arrivedthey were exactly how they are described in their menu, beautifully displayed and verywell presented showing styles you would normally only find in expensive restaurants. Therestaurant has gone for quality rather that quantity but we were very satisfied after allthree courses. It is well worth a visit if you want something different from your normalpub style meals.

This is located at the Hillcrest Hotel and was refurbished in late 2011. It is a good restaurant but can get busy during the festive period.

The Hillcrest was part of my youth, Friday Saturday nights early 1980's....... and nothing much had changed by all accounts..................until Richard got a grip of the place!!!Fast forward 30 yrs and the place has been brought well and truly up to date and not before time. Re branding the restaurant, now called Cu, creating the perfect ambiance and welcome. The chef is producing the most innovative, creative menu I have seen by far for many a year, outstanding food, fantastic atmosphere staff second to none, especially Sam who deserves a special mention.If you are looking for the personal touch, not churned out rubbish or food hyped up to be something its not with a price tag to match, then please try the CU, never ever in my years of 'trip advising' have I come across a place that so deserves to do well. After years of stagnating in the disco, churn it out same old mass produced food. then being brave enough to say we are going to do it differently, you so deserve every success. xxx
