Starting with the food, the portions were good, the menu choice was good and the prices reasonable but not necessarily great value. Unfortunately the taste was below average across the board. Three adults and one child all had the same complaints. We all experienced bland tastes or overly rich/sweet and overbearing sauces. I had one of the specials to start with. It wasn’t what I expected. It was crab, melted cheese and a handful of supermarket crackers. I’m sure there was supposed to be bread with it too, but I didn’t get that. For the main I had Barber’s Smothered Chicken. It was way too rich and sweet, the chicken was dry and overcooked. The cheese and sweet BBQ sauce was too rich. In contrast I asked for mayo but it was more akin to sour cream than mayo. Bland. We all skipped desert as the starters and mains had already disappointed. The service was cold and functional, more order taking than service, similar to what you get in a drive through fast food restaurant . Not even a smile from all three of the staff we interacted with. They weren’t bad, but they showed zero emotion throughout. The venue itself was characterful, clean and warm. Oh and no coffee, apparently the machine was broken and I ended up paying at the bar as the waitress seemed to disappear for an age, not that it was particularly busy. This place has really taken a dip by the look of it, I’ve had family really recommend it months ago.

Very disappointed with our meals tonight...the chicken was dry and tasted burnt. Such a shame as it used to be our go to place for a great dining experience. In this age when eating out is becoming so expensive it's not what you expect sadly

My Father and I attended the Ring O’Bells pub in Daresbury for two nights in one week recently. This was our first ever visit to the pub. Assistant Manager Chloe served us on both occasions and made us feel very welcome. On the first occasion my meal could have been warmer, which she put right by warming it through and on our second visit, she made a point of coming over to ask if the meal was warm enough, which I appreciated her doing. As a single female I would feel comfortable enough returning to the pub on my own to have a meal, which says a lot for the warm welcome we received. Lovely location, lovely food and lovely staff. Had a great meal here recently, myself and my family really enjoyed. Our waitress Chloe was fantastic and explained the menu to us and the food was served in good time. Very happy.

Having read some of the recent reviews, it looks like this place is a sinking ship. "Have you booked?" were the frosty opening words from the waitress when my friend and I took our seats. "No, I haven't, is it booking only now?" I enquired. "The staff need time to prepare meals, and we're short, so its booking only" was the chilly response. I asked as to whether I should leave, and was informed that I could have drinks only and no food. This was about 1.50pm on Wednesday 14th February 2024. The pub was hardly bursting at the seams, and had plenty of space although quite a few folk were enjoying their meals. In essence, I felt like we were an inconvenience and not welcome. As we left, I asked the barmaid if this was a new thing, or just today. She replied that they still do "Some walk ins." I found this whole episode bizarre, as we have had many great meals here in the past, and even held our mother's funeral gathering at Ring O bells. The reception we got today was brisk and frosty, and it was almost like we had walked into the middle of an argument or something. There are obviously some serious staffing issues here, and they all look demoralised. Very, very odd. NO mention of booking only on your website or Google maps. How are your customers meant to know its booking only, if you dont advertise it? Come on Ring O bells, you can do much better than this, sort yourselves out.

The best Chef and Brewer pub we have visited. Good food and beers, very friendly staff, great service. Will visit again, can recommend 👍

Lovely place with great service and great food

Was really looking forward to eating here. The starter came out cold. The steak was a cheap cut. It felt like a middle class weatherspoons.. really disappointed. Will not return. After an email offering a free meal to make up for this. I've emailed to book and received nothing in return. Extremely disappointed.

Poor experience with understaffed team providing minimum level of service. I ordered the garden plot medley which was the size of a mean starter and according to the online menu £12.99 but charged at £14.99. I wouldn't have minded paying £4.99 for it. My friend had a chicken and bacon sandwich which had no bacon on it. We had to go and pay for the meals at the bar as we couldn't attract the attention of the waiting staff.

We’ll what a letdown. For a big popular pub/restaurant they had 2 staff on, lunchtime, trying to cope at a very busy time. We waited almost an hour for food, customers were waiting around the bar area to be seated for ages,asking if we had seen anyone to seat them!!! Our meals were dreadful. My Seabass was stale and rest if it cold, my partners chicken was almost burned and the rest of his cold. Sent mine back and had bowl of chips later which should have come with my meal. Thought the dessert sounded fabulous (£9.45) Eaton mess/trifle/jam pudding etc. IT CAME ON A FLAT plate! A spoonful of trifle with an inch of Meringue on top alongside a tiny tub of rock hard pudding and scoop of ice cream. Very strange!! I would put the disaster down to bad management. The staff were lovely trying to cope. I lived in this area for over 30yrs and this pub was our local. What a shame it has fallen to this. We eat out a great deal and have never been so disappointed. The whole experience took over one and a half hours. We felt extremely sorry for the staff as they were so very pleasant

Enjoyable evening meal with family and friends (party of 8 plus dog). Very friendly staff, looked after the dog with treats, water and blanket. Food was tasty and arrived quickly. Any minor issues were quickly resolved. Thanks Matt for looking after us

Went for a meal with hubby and daughter, been once before and Stacey served us, she was very polite and welcoming both times and kept checking we were ok with our meal and drinks. Would definitely go again.

Second time going to the ring o bells for our lunch. Food was lovely both times, ordered the fish and chips and hunters chicken, parents had mixed grills. Service was outstanding, especially Stacey, she made us feel welcome and couldn’t help enough. She was polite and friendly all the way through our visits. 5* food and 5* service.

Nice pub and restaurant. They had accommodates us even without reservation ( it was not full anyway). The food was good, especially the leek and cheddar pie. Good choice of beers.

Lovely Sunday lunch with family and Ruby the Jack Russel. Great menu with a nice choice, most of us opted for the Sunday roast, the beef just melted, highly recommended. We booked a table for 6pm, we arrived a little early so didn't expect it to be ready and we're happy to sit and have a drink after being assured it would be ready for 6pm, we were eventually seated at 6.15. We ordered about 6.25 and it was 7pm before our meals started to arrive. All meals came except for the child's meal, we eventually had to ask for this as we had almost finished our meals. When it arrived we were told they were waiting for the sausages to finish cooking and that we would not have to pay for it. 5 mins later another member of staff came to apologise and said they had to wait for the beans to heat! 2 people ordered chicken breast in BBQ sauce, this was not a chicken breast just a couple of breast fillets, the seasonal salad with the steak was just a bit of frilly lettuce nothing else...to me this should not be classed as a salad! Upon asking for the bill they had still charged for the child's meal that they had said we would not be charged for. This was our first visit and will also be our last.

Went here with 3 friends for a Friday evening meal. Friends all described their meal as “ok but nothing special”. My meal was very poor. I’d ordered the Korean chicken…..I hadn’t realised that the Koreans like to present their chicken breast over cooked, no tenderness and hard to chew. I think that rather than avoid Korean offerings in future, I’ll avoid returning to this pub, which makes Wetherspoons look like fine dining. Service was very good from the waiting staff. Difficult to understand why the kitchen/bar staff congregate at the entrance to the car park for a chat and cigarettes. Harder to understand why they refuse to move off the driveway to allow cars to pass them.

New kitchen team delivered a great breakfast for us all including the little ones. Staff were helpful and friendly and gave us lots of room for the pram and little one to move around. Coffee was also great!

6pm Sunday lunch, what a disaster! Starters, No garlic mushrooms hubby wanted burger but no skin on fries? ( a basic) had to have roast potatoes, No beef, no pork. Veggie wellington Sunday lunch was an insult! Dry frozen roast, aunt Bessie's Yorkshire puddings snd stuffing balls everything including the half a carrot was out of the freezer, no cauliflower cheese but only told after the main was served so very disappointing 2 other tables around is also had cause to complain about the quality of the food. We have been coming here for a couple of years on and off and have always rated to food untill the past couple of times. Standards have really dropped and i don't think we will be back soon for food which is a shame as front of house staff are superstars and very attentive. Nice staff & comfortable warm atmosphere provided by the open fire. Sadly the food didn't match up. We both had the Sunday roast. I had the trio of meats. The beef & turkey were both good but the pork was dry. My husband had the pork so it was more disappointing as all dry. The roast potatoes were also well below par, pale & barely roasted , tasted more like sautéed. Vegetables were very al dente. We asked for more gravey to make it passable. We fed back to the waitress who said she had passed our comments to the chef. No offer of bringing alternative meat or potatoes. The very traditional Sunday dinner is all about the meat & the roasties. We won't be eating here again.

One of the nicest pub gardens we have visited. Sitting out on a sunny March day after a lovely local walk with our sprocker. Food was excellent and staff friendly. We will be back.

We’ve just had the worst Sunday dinner!! Roasties were burnt , meat was tough , veg wasn’t cooked enough. Yorkshire you couldn’t even cut into it was awful. Such a shame cos staff were lovely and nice pub. Definitely won’t be coming back for food!!

I took a break during a long walk in the countryside and found that lunch had just begun to be served. So I dedided to get a meal going for the Whitby Scampi, chips and peas. This arrived very well cooked and went down a treat indeed being very tasty. And the price, £8.49 was very good too.

Came here with my girlfriend for brunch and the food was excellent! We came early on a Sunday so it was quiet but the decor was lovely and the food was very good. The surroundings were nice as well and we'll definitely be coming back again soon!

Let’s start with the positive. The food was lovely and we received a discount with the desserts and coffee taken off the bill. However, it seems that so much of order was delayed, had errors - incorrect orders, with the main one being a replacement by the chef of the vegan ice cream with vanilla ice cream as they had run out of vegan kind. Fortunately spotted before a disaster. Given the question about allergens at the beginning that was a major faux par. Sadly overall a poor experience.

Throughly pleasant and comfortable atmosphere, food very good and good value.

We booked four weeks in advance for the mother’s day set menu and were not disappointed. The seven hour slow cooked rib of beef was the best we have ever tasted. It was exquisite. There are no words to describe just how succulent it was, as were the perfectly roasted potatoes, other vegetables, and delicious Yorkshire pudding. The starters of calamari and Korean BBQ chicken were also excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed the Bakewell tart with custard while the rest of my family tucked into the Panna cotta and chocolate torte. Even the cappuccinos were good! Service was excellent, and our only complaint were noisy guests at a table nearby, but you can hardly blame the restaurant for that. Definitely will be going back again soon.

It started having trouble trying to book a table for ten ,had so much trouble with automated call,I I drove there to book a table for ten people,then got told we had to pre order all our meals ?? Who knows what they want to eat three days before , we did as we were asked and pre booked ,got to the pup staff pleasant and polite ,ordered drinks, took ages to come as soon as drinks came the food started to arrive starters were mediocre,then the mains arrive there were only three meals that were ok ,two fish meals and a burger Which we were told later on by the staff the burger was the safest bet,my meal chicken breast wild rice and chicken strips with a BBQ sauce came out with everything cold I took a bite of one chicken strips and put back on my plate ,and called the waitress she said she would get it replaced,after a long while everyone else had nearly finished the meal and mine came back ,it was the same food with bitten chicken but this time it was smothered in a BBQ sauce which wasn't there prior started to cut in to the chicken breast it was hard and dried out the rice was the same , obviously just been thrown in the microwave ,i just handed it right back to the waitress she did apologise and offed me another meal but everyone had finished the meals and drinks so I declined ,they said they would knock it off the bill like they were doing me a favour ,I wasn't going to pay for something I hadn't had really let down ,had to apologise to some of my family who had come to visit after a five hour journey , I also had called in three weeks prior to have lunch and was met with have you booked and ended up being turned away from eating and told they weren't serving lunch any more ? So we left our drinks and went elsewhere what's going on with this place ,not like it use to be the place looks worn out with paint falling off the walls , sorry for the bad review but I really was a bad experience

We were two couples enjoying an evening meal. It was a great experience. Particularly impressed with the wheelchair accessibility.

Visited today 14/2 /24 walked from canal we were not greeted on arrival waiting had to approach a member of staff and ask if we could have a table for 4 and we were told we had to book a table very rude and unhelpful it didn’t seem that busy it was lunch time would not recommend this pub at lunchtime we visited last Saturday night and had a different experience it was first class hence why we returned what a difference one member of staff makes will not return

If I could give 0 stars for food I would. Food was freezing, ridiculously over priced and genuinely looked and tasted like everything had been in a microwave. Staff didn't look like they knew what day it was. Do not recommend. Unsure if this place is under new management but needs attention ASAP.

We went here for Christmas day and never haveing been out for Christmas Dinner before we didn't know what to expect. Safe to say that after today we have decided we will be going out every year from now on and have already booked our table for next year. The atmosphere was lovely, friendly and relaxed and the food absolutely gorgeous. The team were wonderful, nothing was to much for them and can not thank them all enough for such a enjoyable meal today.

My wife and wider family had a Christmas evening here last night and unfortunately there experience was awful. It appeared that the managers that we have known for years where not in and the team left in charge just did not have a clue about service. No Christmas music or atmosphere, food took absolutely ages to arrive, every course had to be chased and when it arrived it was very poor to say the least. The bar top was full of used glasses, very poor presentation when you walk through the door. It’s a great pity as the restaurant used to be consistently great, with lovely service
