The Prospect Inn in Halton

Last night had a great meal and drinks at the Newly managed Prospect. I had the chicken breast and must say it was restaurant quality. Great also that music was being played because it adds to the atmosphere. We will definitely be back. Eddie

Friendly staff who went out of their way to help us out. Great drinks with a decent range of choice including two very real ales. The food was excellent; arrived quickly, very hot, plenty of it (Sunday lunch) and very tasty.

Just had Sunday lunch at the prospect Runcorn if you haven’t been yet then treat yourself. Friendly atmosphere spotlessly clean. We had the roast beef cut straight off a joint not the processed stuff you sometimes get, fresh veg roast/mash potatoes and gravy. Good big portions tasty hot food followed by a nice chocolate desert and ice cream. Great lunch would really highly recommend it and will be going again. The midweek menu looks good too.

Well we did the right thing choosing here for our Sunday dinner. Big, big portions, plate was warm so it kept hot whilst we worked our way through it all. Very reasonably priced for the size. They also do an “ultra” sized portion where you get extra veg, pigs in blankets, stuffing etc. But no way could we have eaten any more than we did, glad we got the normal size. Staff were very pleasant and helpful

Very nice pub with friendly staff and the Sunday brunch was spot on the four of us all loved it and it was our first visit and certainly won’t be our last. The food was hot & very tasty thanks for the good experience

Sunday lunch, half empty pub, had to wait 45 mins for the food, sent wrong orders back and didnt receive the sides. Wont be going back

Absolutely 1st class dinner! Highly recommended, homemade yorkies, pigs in blankets, homemade stuffing and huge portions of locally sourced Ham! AND I AM VERY PICKY REGARDING FOOD WOULD NOT BE OUT OF PLACE SERVED IN THE SAVOY! 👍 Can take away remainder if your kids portion defeats them!!!🤣

When we phoned to enquire about booking a table, we were advised it would not be necessary. When we arrived we could not get into the car parkas a bin wagon had blocked entrance. We were the only people in the lounge and were advised a number of dishes were not available. The food was hot and well cooked (fish batter over cooked). Most of the deserts were also not available, only enough ice cream for one. Staff friendly and it was clean. We will not be returning.

Just had a fabulous Sunday lunch..... friendly staff, excellent food and reasonably priced. Would recommend it.

I ate here today for Sunday lunch, the reason I have given a 4 is the food was gorgeous. They advertise 2 Sunday roasts for £12.95 outside Gents toilet yet charged £15 90, when we ask barmaid was just told , "Idon't know, but thanks for letting me know"??? We didn't bother challenging as these are young inexperienced girls who clearly have not been trained properly, so not their fault. Bar a bit of a mess not much choice, used to have variety of gins etc. Gone down hill. Pity used to be a great pub.

Visited with friends and my young son for lunch. Amazing toasties! Very friendly staff and lovely cozy little pub.

I have had many a Sunday Lunch here,with family & friends over the years . Not been for a while as it closed .. went today ,looking forward to a great Sunday lunch...after 35 minutes sitting in an empty room ( apart from 2 ladies ) ...with no sign or smell of food ..I asked how long it might be?? The young barmaid said she had no idea ..we asked for a refund and left ..Such a shame the place has ended up so disorganized

First time visit since previous owners left as wasn't sure if it was open, first normally couldn't get a table but there was no one in which was a surprise,food was ok not much choice and beef not up to standard,the pub itself didn't look as bright as it did before, I had a soft drink but only served from a bottle so was flat, husband had cask and that was ok, staff friendly and service was quick, overall ok

Have been here a few times under the new management and the food is gorgeous. Nothing too much trouble if you need a dish adapting or just want advice. I had a blue cooked steak tonight and it was perfect, hubby had chicken curry which he really enjoyed. Food is always piping hot and well presented. Totally recommend

Last week we had 3 takeaway roast dinners which were still warm when we got them home (winner winner chicken dinner!). The gravy was amazing, everything is home cooked and you can really tell. Veg was cooked to perfection, no soggy boiled to an inch of its life mush! Beautiful meat (beef, ham and chicken thighs) which were cooked just right. Fab Sunday lunch at a fab price! Good job guys. We’ll be back!

Decided to give the Sunday lunch takeaway a go, was honestly amazing, everything was cooked beautifully and was very filling. Ordered a glass of wine while waiting and food came out just as I’d finished it. Will definitely make this part of my Sunday routine and will certainly be back. 10/10

My wife and I visited the pub this evening for the first time since it reopened.The bar maid Aimee was so friendly and polite and made us feel very welcome.The Moretti beer on draught was a big plus but the big bonus was the fantastic fish,chips and mushy peas but more so the homemade chips, they were delicious, it’s about time the majority of establishments got rid of the frozen/ crimply chips and take a lesson from the Prospect Inn...Thank you, first class...

Visited tonight to try the steak offer - 2 sirloin steaks with bottle of wine £24.99. Steaks cooked perfect, with homemade chunky chips, onion rings and sauce with peas, mushrooms and grilled tomato on the side. Absolutely delicious! Had a lovely time. All staff very friendly, good service, nice atmosphere. Will be back very soon!

Had a lovely meal. Steak night ( sirloin ) for 2 with bottle of house wine £24.99. Home made chips, steak cooked medium rare, homemade onion rings, peas and mushrooms plus sauce of choice. Highly reccomend. Can't wait to try the Sunday roast. 10/10

Visited with my daughter, what a lovely place! Staff very attentive, friendly and welcoming. Beautiful home cooked food at very good prices and excellent portions. Ive been told dogs are welcome in the bar area, great little place to call into for a drink and bite to eat when out walking nearby. Can't wait to come back!

Real Sunday lunch, nothing out of a tin. Homemade puddings. Decent portions & reasonable prices. Would go more often but don't live in the area.

What a gem of a pub! I visited with my mum every week for a fabulous Sunday lunch. The food was amazing and what a good atmosphere and lovely staff. Its so sad that the current landladies are leaving - they created a wonderful friendly community and will be sorely missed by all their customers, including all the ones who popped in for their gorgeous takeaway Sunday lunches! A very hard act to follow!

I’ve been taking my mum out for Sunday lunch for about eight years now and for the last two years we have gone to The Prospect. Their Sunday roasts are the best we have had anywhere. It’s a 30 mile round trip for me but well worth it, we just can’t fault it. They’re very considerate of my gluten-free requests, the staff are lovely and the pub itself is really nice and very clean. Also, you don’t have to wait long for your meals. A friend who often dines with us chooses different meals and is always happy with them. Wish we’d thought of going to The Prospect from the beginning!

I didn't eat but lots of other where enjoying nice looking meals.Our drinks were served in matching glasses, I found this a nice touch. We had 2 kids with us and they were made welcome too

Honestly don't like writing reviews but on this occasion I will make an exception as it was awful :( Meat was more like dog meat and everything else was basically deep fried. I understand its pub grub and wasn't expecting a Michelin starred plate however this was truly terrible. I will never go here again for Sunday lunch unfortunately

This is a small pub which serves excellent food to the local community and is well supported. If you are in the area and want a reasonably priced meal, this is the place to go.

Sorry I really did not like the food here. The meat was nothing like a freshly roasted joint. The staff were lovely though.

Popped in on spec on Sunday. We were greeted warmly and found a table in the bar. The Sunday lunch offered a choice of meats with another choice from a variety of vegetables. I chose pork with cauliflower cheese, carrot and turnip, mash and the crispiest “roast” potatoes (which actually tasted deep fried). My lunch partner chose lamb with cauliflower cheese and peas. We both enjoyed our meals which were well cooked, tasty and well served by a lovely young man. I had apple crumble and custard whilst my friend had jam dolly polly again tasty and filling. Why only 4 stars then you may be asking? This may sound petty but I would have loved some crackling which would have completed the meal for me. Can’t fault the food or staff and overall really good!

Steak night, I had Gammon, Fella had Steak, both perfectly cooked as ordered, lovely chunky chips, lots of salad & mushrooms, really enjoyed the hot fresh food, staff were lovely & attentive, atmosphere friendly, what more can you ask for?!?! See you soon

Lovely Sunday roast now we start two days eating tiny amounts until Christmas day. Staff are friendly and welcoming Toilet clean Would pop in again if we are down here.

Went with a couple of friends bit out the way unless you live by there. Beer garden wuite small but good views. Food was ok think they just need a better kitchen fan smelt of grease when i left but everthing is all home made would pop in again if i was passing!

This is a gem in Runcorn, you can find it on Weston Road. The food on offer is well balanced and tempting, Daily offers, but don't know if any is gluten free. Some really nice cask ales on and a nice selection of Gin. Worth a visit

Not regulars but we have been to this pub a few afternoons during the summer. Decided to go one weekend night. Between us all we had about 10 pints of lager. Unfortunately 3 of these went flat very quickly even though they'd been pulled at the same time as others. Don't know if it was because the bar maid was rushed (she was the only one trying to deal with a lot of customers on her own) or if the pump gas was not working correctly. Didn't make for a nice pint I'm afraid. Hopefully it was a 'one off', doesn't make us want to rush back for a while though.

Called in just by chance as we were in the area. Ordered food - hubby had the mixed grill and I had a ploughman’s salad. When the food came out we were amazed. The portion sizes were fantastic. The mixed grill was gorgeous as was my salad - it had everything on it and the cheese portion was that big I ended up taking most of it home. Donna was friendly and attentive and made us feel very welcome. We will definitely be going back and trying the Sunday roast (which is meant to be lovely). The pub is clean, bright and welcoming and I’d certainly recommend a visit

I would highly recommend The Prospect, the food and service were amazing. Warm and friendly atmosphere and no request was too much.

Over an hour wait for out starters to come cold and dry was meant to be garlic mushrooms was more like dried dog food . Mains came along 1hour 45 mins and i have to say ive never had anything like it couldnt even try to eat it . Would not go here again , did try and send our meals back but couldnt find any staff to help us . Never again so much for a nice bank holiday family meal out

Went for father's day and the roast was poor. Gravy like bisto and only 2 veg?! Didn't enjoy, my husbands beef was fatty and potatoes where awful. Don't think we'll be coming again.

Went with the family to have a look after the other good trip advisor reviews. Not disappointed the bar was closed for a wedding so only the lounge was open for the general public, the wedding had a ukulele band playing all the old tunes made a definate change to any normal pub. Staff very friendly, food not fancy just a small selection of well done meals, just right. Will have to give the Sunday lunch a try it seems what everyone is talking about.

We came here.just to check the place out..we had heard slot about the Sunday meals here..however we came on a Thursday glad we did..it's a busy little pub.great staff.reslly friendly but it's true the food is fabulous here..we had the gammon two for £19.99 with a free bottle of wine both were delicious. Others had burgers with fries.& One had pie and mash.all equally Fabulous..check this place out you'll be glad you did! We're gonna try a Sunday next & book to avoid disappointment.

My first visit to the Prospect Inn for Sunday lunch. Lovely food with choices of meats and vegetables, good sized portions and is served by very friendly and polite staff. There is other meals on offer if you don’t want the roast dinner and all at a very reasonable price too.

Always come here from work for birthday lunches. Always a great feed but you are best ringing ahead and ordering meals as there will be a long wait if you don't.

Really tasty food , enough dishes of veg for 2 portions each (6 adults), fast friendly service . Sadly only 1 choice of desert available , staff said they'd been busy all day and run out

Called in today for Sunday lunch with my grandson Lovely roast dinner and chocolate fudge cake and ice cream for afters. First time I’ve heard my grandson say “ I’m full “ ... normally can’t fill him... typical teenager !!!

Ordered Smothered Chicken and a baked potato with prawns (for 2 people) Lovely flavour to the sauce on the chicken, with lots of food to eat. Sampled 3 of the many gins on offer, over 50 (I think) I can't wait to go back!!

My wife and I went to the prospect in Weston road what a good night we had first the food a good choice of menu and the food was excellent a good choice of gins and beers the staff was very helpful and polite overall the staff was excellent this pub is well worth a visit and the owners was absolutely superb really very friendly and what an excellent service throughout the night from the owners right through to the staff will definitely go back there

Brought my Nan here for tea, and have to say it’s the best food in Runcorn really friendly staff and very accommodating. The food was excellent and really reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend if u want decent home cooked food.

While out for a walk my wife and I called in on Sunday lunchtime 10.6.2018 for a drink. Lovely beer, pleasant barman and enjoyable drink.

Called in at the Prospect today to watch The Grand National and we decided to eat there afterwards. Even though they had two functions coming in later they made us very welcome and the Peppered Steak we had was excellent - well done, will be back

What a lovely meal my wife and I had on Valentines night. We were shown to our table which had been dressed with hearts and a lovely red and white table cloth. There was a heart shaped dish filled with sweets in the shape of hearts and we were then poured a glass of Proseco. The meal was fabulous King prawns cocktail , steak and all the trimmings and a lovely choice of sweets. This meal would have cost a fortune if you had gone to a restaurant but all for £30 a couple. The beer afterwards was superb as always and the staff so friendly. You were not rushed and there were plenty of others eating . Full Marks for a lovely evening topped off with a John on his keyboards and a music quiz thrown in . What a geart night.

14th Feb and 17 of us celebrated my mums 70th Birthday. Was perfect, nothing was too much trouble, food lovely and room set up amazing for us. Would recommend to everyone for a celebration 😀

I have been here on many occasions usually lunch time. Lovely friendly atmosphere with good food. It is pleasant to be able to have a conversation without having to shout over the music. The staff are very professional and friendly.

Have eaten here on a few occasions friendly pub, decent food and a good selection of beers and wine..all reasonably priced.

We had a fantastic Sunday Roast for our big family all the meals came out hot and very quickly....... delicious well cooked and served with a smile

We have eaten here several times now since the new owners have taken over and have enjoyed it every time.

My wife and I were visiting her sister - from Portugal - for the wedding of my wife's nephew on Saturday 9th December. We have all been to the Prospect at different times and on a previous visit. My sister-in-law has attended on a number of occasions. On our previous visit the meal was lovely and not a fault. Then the drinks were most enjoyable with the meal. Regrettably, such an enjoyable occasion was not repeated on 5th December. We all had starters which were quite nice. The main meal was something else. Pretty bad. My wife had a fish meal; the chips were preformed mash and the batter of the cod was solid and the fish was grey/black on the inside. I complained and they asked if we wanted a replacement. We said please. The next wasn't any better. My steak meal tasted like it was cooked in water and had not been seared. A simple meal, medium rare steak but well messed up. For dessert my wife had apple pie and cream - requested to be hot. They had no custard nor did they have any ice cream. Bad really. I had a sticky toffee pudding - requested hot but served cold. My wife's apple pie's pastry was like glue. I really couldn't believe the standard after our previous experience. I suggested that as a gesture of goodwill that maybe they could refund the cost of the desserts. 24 pence short they did so. Wait was unnecessary as we were the only ones there and eating at the time. Had the service, food etc been of equivalent standard to our previous visit I would have no hesitation in awarding a "5". Regret this experience only worth a "-5".

We had an impromptu drink in here and had a great time, everything you need from a pub, I.e. superb selection of beers, jukebox, fruit machine / quiz machine, awesome staff and cheap prices!

We booked a table last minute, as we had been told the food was lovely, the new landlady was very helpful, the food was great, sweet and sour chicken was homemade and delicious, I would recommend eating here and we will be returning very soon to sample the new gin selection. Although the decor is dated the overall atmosphere is great.

A friend took us here for Sunday Lunch. I ordered the Gammon, it looked more like a wafer thin piece of ham (half slice) when it arrived. My wife is a vegetarian and so went for the Vegetarian Tart, not by any form of description was it a tart! Accompanying vegetables apart from the potatoes (Mash had ran out) were either under cooked (Broccoli) or none existent (Cauliflower Cheese). Obviously it's cheap, but I was looking forward to a Sunday Lunch, not an excuse for one! Didn't complain as I didn't pay.

Called in last night (Saturday), as we regularly do. Sadly it may be the last time. While I appreciate that the pub is in transition, the decor is dated, the furniture battered and torn and with all the lights on it was like being under floodlights. As for the food...paid £3.50 for a kids meal of 4 x chicken dippers and about 12 chips. Steak and baguette were ok, but just ok. Now get far fewer chips and the salad isn’t as good as before. All that after a 45 minute wait. Left disappointed. In summary, while the staff are friendly and it’s a nice place, the food just isn’t what it used to be in terms of quality and value.

Booked a table cos reviews were good. Friendly but very small pub. Had asked whether they do veggie menu and was assured they did but it def needs extending. Ended up with just oven chips and salad. Other two family members asked for gammon. Waitress came back after about 10 mins and said it was off. So they ordered the burger. Hubby said it was ok but son said it was greasey and left half of it. We were told that a new landlady had just taken over and a refurbishment was on the cards. Maybe we went on a bad night cos a lot of people seem to enjoy the food. Might try it again after its been refurbished.

Visited Runcorn for a few days and came to eat here on a recommendation from our taxi driver. The Inn is a local place were families and friends come to hang out drink and have a good time. The service was great food was awesome and of course the beers didn't disappoint. The restaurant I divided into two sections as you come in the bar is to your left and the restaurant is to your right, choose your side and enjoy a great hometown feel emerging yourself with the locals. Prices were cheap but the food was not, very good and flavorful. a great find!

If you want a great pub to visit in Runcorn with a good atmosphere, lovely food and excellent hosts then please visit the Prospect! They have a Quiz night and a Steak night and others and it's a really great place to visit! !

Called in on the off chance at 7.40 pm bar staff said kitchen could fit us in all good .new landlady was lovely and welcoming telling us of plans for a refurbishment in the new year beer was great however without being unfair and going into too much detail the food was disappointing home made chips have been replaced by frozen fries which i think is a mistake and there were other issues which were dealt with fairly on the night so no need to dwell

Been there a few times. Food is great value for money ,Good choice from the menu . The Butchers board is the best value for all you meat lovers. If want a great Sunday Roast ,heads up book a table plus let them know what meat you would like . They sell out of the Lamb very quickly. Also the real Ales are good have choice of 4 or 5 but have different ones every week. The place has that old feel look about it. The pub has no internet in the pub. Which id great because it makes you talk to the people you are with instead of looking at them and the back of there phone. Try the pub you might find out how your friends or family are doing without having to look at face book you can talk to them face to face.Over all great place for food or a nice drink with family or friends.

Nice selection of beers and wines in a quiet area of Runcorn. Good pub food and lots of specials very pleasant service with a cheerful touch. Not too pricey mid range.

As my son had moved to Runcorn we didn't really know where the good eating places were so it was a bit hit and miss. We were driving down the winding country lane and we came accross a very cute looking roadside pub with parking at the rear and also accross the road flat walking distance so no problemon with entrance. As we walked inside we were greeted by the bar staff who asked if we required a table for food which was nice as we were strangers to tissue local pub. They also asked us what we would like to drink and they served us at our table this was very friendly and we were made to feel comfortable in a strange place. We orDerek our staraters and main course and then we had a chat with them and found out all their food was fresh and homemade in their own kitchen. The food arrived quite quickly and it was beautifully served on the platter it looked as good as it tasted. You could tell it was homemadecided food it had the Nannas taste about it just yummy and who knew. Who would have thought a little country pub could be so fabulous warm friendly and brilliant service. To top it all the cost was just as wonderful and we were happy to pay the bill for what we had. This country pub has an oldie worldie feel quaint and warm interesting and we have returned about 12 times since then. It's not always a posh restaurant we are searching for sometimes we just plan a meal out in a spontaneous moment together and I can assure you that you won't be disappointed with this as your choice. It was winter when we first visited and I can assure you it was nice and warm and cosy too I recommend you give it a try if you are in the area you won't be sorry you did.

Thought we would give it a go home cooked Sunday dinner. Friendly service & food was served very quick & very nice. I would recommend book8ng a table as it's only small inside & no garrenty you will get a table. Also tried there delivery service, it's a must if you want a Sunday dinner & carnt be bothered going out

Visited with two young children and thoroughly enjoyed our time. We both ordered the butchers block which came with mouth watering steak cooked to perfection, tasty sausage, pickle, onions, salad and chips. The children had chicken nuggets and chips for one and pizza chips and beans for the other. The nuggets were hot and crisp whilst the pizza was very cheesy with a thin crisp crust. There was a small choice of puddings and we opted for chocolate fudge cake and ice cream for adults and ice cream sundaes for both children. The portions were very generous and great value for money. The pub could do with some TLC and the chips were soggy which is probably due to using new potatoes but either way I would definitely return.

Went here with the family for sunday lunch food good a choice four different meats and two veg service quick. And a choice of guest beers, nice afternoon.

Good sized portions and piping hot. Good selection of ales as well as the usual lagers, wines etc. Will definitely go again.

This is my 2nd review of this inn, but his time its not great. I have been here quite a few times, and cannot fault the staff. However the food is a different matter. On one visit, my partner asked for Steak pie, only to be informed there was none left (despite us being there early), she then asked for sausages and mash, to be told NO MASH, oh come on how hard is it to make mash! I have had to send 2 meals back, Lasagne totally bland, fish and chips sent back as batter was like concrete, and last night was steak night, the peppercorn sauce was like water. There used to be lots of specials, now there are hardly any. I used to like coming here, but doubt it very much that I will be returning, even more so due to a new pub opening in town, where they have a steak night, same price and bigger steaks.

We moved house recently and The Prospect has become our local. As such we have dedicated ourselves to working through the menu at a steady rate so have visited fairly regularly over the past few months. The beers change frequently so there is usually something new to try, but they always seem to keep at least one familiar beer on tap - Doom Bar, Landlord or Broadside for example - so if you're not keen on your first beer you can wash it down with something else. The food is good pub food which means to me that it is hearty, portions are generous and it is not overpriced. As well as the regular menu, there are changing specials, curry night, steak night (which is ridiculous value for money!!) and Sunday lunch. The restaurant area contains lots of curios and photos of old Weston, and the bar has lots of sports memorabilia. Over the colder months, there is a blazing fire going in the restaurant. The staff are friendly, welcoming and accommodating. We were overjoyed when we moved to the area and found such a gem on our doorstep, which seems to have the right mix of beer, food, service and atmosphere so we hope that it remains that way when new owners are found as it is currently up to-let. Until then, we are going to make the most of what we have and continue to work our way through the menu, and the dessert board. Keep up the great work, guys at the Prospect!

Fab pub with a good selection of drinks, great menu at a really good price. I've eaten here a few times. Curry night was really disappointing but everything else I've had has been lovely. Staff are lovely and friendly, proper old fashioned pub and dog friendly too :)

We came here last year for something to eat, with family. the food was lovely homemade and worth the 1/2 hr wait.However, my husband and I went last night, and waiting 1 hr and 20 mins for our meal, which was a baguette with chicken, bacon and salad. Which was nice, chips a bit greasy, but edible. Just as we start to eat, we are asked to more tables, as the musicians need our table, so we carry our meals and drinks to another table, by this time its just the 2 of us eating, at 8.45. what a joke. then the singer comes on, and the place is silent, all you can hear is the sound of our knives and folks clattering on our plates. needless to say we eat very quickly and left. that's a Birthday meal we wont forget in a hurry.

The pub in itself is welcoming and staff seem friendly enough however if you are coming here expecting a nice meal...don't bother. Food is very bland and seems like the cheapest ingredients used, will not be coming back again to eat in here sorry

I came here for my first legal drink on my 18th birthday. The service was great, and bar side seating area was good. I have previously visited for a Sunday dinner here and it was very tasty, you have a choice of meat and vegatables. The only negative point I have is the size of the eating area, the room is quite small.

We came for a roast dinner after being out the night before. The staff where friendly as always, but there was a particularly lovely female new member of bar staff.

This pub set up on top of the hill has a fine range of Real Ales all well presented.Having won the CAMRA pub of the year award on several occasions. The pub is old in looks outside and has been the centre of the smallcommunity for a hundred years plus .It does food , which is not renowned in the area. But adequate.One is made to feel welcome.On Mondays the local Folk People meet for the group's individuals singing -- and once a month have a guest player (s) on .The Car park is awful to get into and out of being a very narrow entrance off the main road. On a scale out of 10 i would give the Prospect 7.5 overall.For their Ales a 10.

This pub caters for a variety of tastes and wants. There is always something on each evening and the range and quality of beers is second to none in this area. The food is excellent value served in a warm friendly atmosphere and the Sunday Take-Away is great value.

Been on a few visits now. Food always delicious and served with a smile. Cosy lovely pub, although small always happy to accommodate our large family get togethers. Will definitely be going back again.

Six friends went out for steak night. Great value for money. Friendly staff and delicious food. Couldn't ask for a better place to eat
