I’m afraid it’s a one star review. We had booked a table, having settled a whole week before that it was their fabulous Fish and Chips that we both wanted, and both knew would be perfect. However, cue the drama, the table next to us knocked over a glass which shattered on the table. A member of the staff brought over a dustpan and just tickled the table. The broken glass remained, the liquid also remained as did the dustpan. Some minutes later…… the customer used the dustpan and brush to clean the table, wiped it with a napkin and took the glass remnants to the bar. Meanwhile back at our table….,,10 minutes…,15minutes….then somebodies drinks order arrived, not ours…we had ordered a bottle of wine and a half of bitter…..,some time later….the wine arrived, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, straight off the supermarket shelf, warm and not as intended by the vineyard for consumption, no beer though and it’s now 25 minutes at the table and no drinks and no food. We were told they had been a bit busy, which I’m surely is what they want to be, but to remain busy they probably need great front of house management and less reliance on young inexperienced and frankly uninterested staff. The broken glass couple said that the food is usually lovely, and we agreed as that has been our experience but their basic fare is food and drink and 50% of this is just not good enough. We ordered an Uber, left them to continue to serve poorly and went to the Eastern Revive in Stockton Heath where the service was impeccable and the drinks served at the temperature intended. Bottom line is we wanted Fish snd Chips with drinks in a traditional Pub. But what we had was a terrific Indian Meal in a Restaurant we know so well. One question, will the Red Lion in Moore still be serving the community in say 2 years, 3 years or 5 years. Based upon this evenings performance its bowl of goodwill is emptying at what might be an unsustainable rate and it will fail, not because c mm it doesn’t offer nice food but because tonight its very very very poorly managed…..in my opinion as a potential paying customer who decided to bail this evening.

Attended with my husband, daughter and granddaughter. Luckily we precooked. Although service waa slow as it was busy, the staff kept us updated. It was worth the wait. My Sunday roast was delicious, the beef perfectly pink, the roasties had great flavour, the vegetables tastey. The mash not one lump, the Yorkshire pudding huge although I gave this to my granddaughter. My hubby had the small haddock and homemade chips. I had a taste, oh wow, amazing. My granddaughter had the pasta and garlic bread. Followed by ice cream. My daughter had the turkey roast. Great selection of wines. The toilets very clean. Staff super friendly. I am never disappointed visiting.

Booked a table for 2 x at 6:30pm sat down on time and at 6:50pm still no one had been over to take my order. This is the 2nd time the service in here has been none existent. I always give places a 2nd chance to see if the first time was a one off but 6 x months on nothing has changed. The issue is clearly down to under staffing and staff training and this falls under the management to sort and address which they clearly haven’t. The prices are high for what is just a pub but that wouldn’t bother me if they could actually serve me. When they sat us down we weren’t even offered a drink. That is just poor service. So we left after 20 x mins of waiting clearly they can afford for customers to walk away.

Lovely cosy pub with fab furniture and really welcoming staff. I ordered the red Thai monkfish which had just the right amount of spice in the sauce the rice was fluffy and the prawn crackers "cracked" My wife had the steak sandwich with fries and side salad which was really good, the steak was extremely tender and cooked to perfection. Would definitely recommend however, and this doesn't take away from the visit, the napkins where like you would get in a Students cafe at a College. I give ot 99 out of 100 and it may seem petty but the dining experience has to be top drawer from start to finish.

What can I say. The most delicious and crispy fish and chips I’ve had in a long time. I ordered the medium. It was huge I would imagine the large would be like Moby Dick on a plate!!! Lovely fresh white firm fish which had been skinned a plus for me, gorgeous crunchy beer batter mushy peas and nice chunky chips. My OH had the 8oz burger which was also huge, nice burger in a bun with bacon etc, he said it was really good, praise indeed as he’s a bit of a burger connoisseur!! All in all a really really lovely meal very reasonably price and piping hot. Highly highly recommended

Chose this pub as some of the reviews were good, The pub looks very tired and the food wasn’t good enough for the prices charged. Firstly the waitress gave us a list of what wasn’t available and then when we received our meals it was Luke warm and very greasy. The beef was ok but everything else not so good.

Booked a table for Sunday lunch. The minute we arrived it wasn’t a good feeling, it was freezing and void of diners. The manageress took our drinks order and went on to tell us what was on and off the menu, more off than on. We ordered a sharing platter of roast beef. The platter arrived promptly, the platter was actually a dinner plate with veg and roasties, all lukewarm. A generous plate of roast beef arrived giving hope. How wrong was I the beef had to be the toughest beef ever, it could not be cut with a steak knife. I spoke to manageress and challenged her to cut beef. The beef was returned and chef acknowledged the problem. My concern was the chef sent meals out knowing there was a problem. Needless to say I won’t be returning.

Left this restaurant feeling disappointed and quite frankly ripped off. Had a black pudding starter ÂŁ7 and lasagne main ÂŁ12. The black pudding consisted of 1 slice of black pudding with some mayonese. The lasagne was about an 8cm square and 3cm deep served with 2 sections of a garlic bread baguette and some garnish. I left the restaurant hungry. I won't be returning.

Not good enough - Why ;Kept us waiting at the door as one poor girl was pouring and serving drinks as well as greeting customers and showing them to their tables (and on a Sunday lunchtime too). The pub was cold. There are fires, but they weren’t lit. The radiators were cold as well. I didn’t take my coat off. Sat in part of the pub (middle section) that was completely empty, dull and lacked atmosphere. The decor is shabby and it felt scruffy. Also, there was a whining dog somewhere in the pub, which is a pet hate of mine. No Covid instructions / advice whatsoever. In fact, we were given a dirty paper menu (picture attached) that had been used by god knows how many people previously. Sticky and stained. We really should have left at this point, however, stupidly we didn’t. The roast beef Sunday lunch wasn’t hot enough. I would describe it as warm. The beef was over done, the kale inedibly raw. We didn’t sample a pudding as my wife said her feet were cold and wanted to get into the car to warm up. Also, the online menu is way out of date in terms of the food offered and price. £13.95 for the beef lunch is more expensive than on line. It’s simply just not worth it. It’s far more expensive than many pubs that offer quality food, in nice clean, warm, cozy environments for less money. Needless to say, I wouldn’t ever go back. How is it that the reviews tend to be either “poor/disappointing” or “fantastic” ??? My review is honest and objective based on today’s experience !

Me and my wife Janet visited for a quick bite to eat and were very happy from the warm and welcoming staff Stacey and Max. The very talented cook Jack surprised us with his mighty big fish finger baguette, plenty of chips with a lovely salad dressing on the side. Janet has IBS so she only had a vegetable soup to help it slip through easily ‍♀️ we decided to stay for a few drinks and have a few desserts, as said before janet has IBS so couldn't have alot, however I had the sticky toffee pudding as well as the profiteroles, Janet couldn't have any so she watched me eat them and imagined the taste would definitely come back again

This was our first time visiting the pub. I came in with my family over the bank holiday weekend and we absolutely loved it! The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and helpful. The BBQ menu was particularly impressive, my husband ordered the lamb kofta and I ordered pork souvlaki and both were delicious. My children ordered the build your own pizza which they loved and was a really amazing idea for the kids. They also had the build your own ice cream and I think these additions to the menu show how the staff at the Red Lion cater to all ages. Overall we loved our visit to the Red Lion and couldn't recommend it more!!

We went recently for an early tea, two adults and two children. The outside area is lovely, with tables around a fire pit. Would love to see it all lit up at night as I could see fairy lights everywhere. The smells coming from the bbq were gorgeous and there was a good range of food available. My daughter loved building her own pizza, I thought the idea was brilliant. Our food came in a timely manner, my starter of halloumi was delicious! Staff were very helpful and looked after us well. The pub itself is much bigger than I realised and is really nicely furnished with a good feel to it. I will certainly go back and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

We've tried this pub a couple of times. The first time we ate from the BBQ menu which sounds lovely but is very basic and only comparable to weatherspoons food (in fact spoons is slightly better). Today it was Sunday lunch. The beef was dry and overcooked, the gravy had a strong taste of thyme but could have been more beefy and less glupey. On the plus side the veg was nice and the cauliflower cheese excellent. However it says and I quote "homemade roast potatoes" on the menu but they had been deep fried! This is a big no no for us in fact my partner thought they only deserve 1 * and that I've gone soft. I even had a chip on my plate. The service was terrible both times. The waiting staff are complete airhead and had to be reminded of our drinks order several times on both occasions. Needless to say we won't be back. The table next to us had missing food, raw food and ended up with money off so it's not just us. I feel bad having to write this as I know pubs are struggling but I feel I should be honest

OK the pub was busy, apologies were given that there would be a delay; however I was not expecting to wait over an hour for effectively a simple no frills meal of gammon, chips and peas. Having just moved to the area before lockdown we'd heard good things about the pub but didn't get chance to go before everywhere shut. We eventually found time but as the title says we were both disappointed with the experience. The first thing we noticed was the staff totally ignored the pubs own one way anti covid system which kind of defeats the purpose. We waited for around 15 mins before anyone asked what we'd like to drink, this was a theme that continued for the rest of the time we were there to the point we had to wave or shout excuse me etc in order to get anything. We eventually got to order food from the BBQ, we both opted for the burger which arrived in 3 or 4 mins which is never a good sign. The burgers were barely warm and the cheese had gone kind of translucent like it had been left on a warming rack for quite a while, it was so dry that I couldn't finish it. Fries / salad were ok though. We asked for the bill as we wanted to get out of there, it arrived on a little plate as usual but another 15 mins passed before I had to ask someone for the card machine, we were then told that all payments need to be made inside as the WiFi doesn't reach, the lady telling me this was looking at me as if I should have known that all along?Maybe we were just unlucky on the day but fair to say we won't be rushing back.

This was our 3rd visit.First time it was awful and after complaining we were invited for a free meal which was lovely. This time it was back to awful! The roast dinners were tiny. 2 measly roast potatoes, the smallest one piece of cauli cheese, a carrot, fatty pork and a yorkshire pud. The waitress brought us 2 very small jugs of gravy which was runny and tasteless. She said she would bring 2 more but only brought one other small one. The food was cold.Given that we arrived at 1pm the pub had been open an hour and we were told no fish and chips on the menu. We waited ages for the plates to be cleared and had to ask for dessert menu and was told no sticky toffee pud. How could you possibly run out and what should be one of your busiest days and youve only been open 1 hour!? Puds cos about ÂŁ5 each and were small in size.Completely disappointed. The pub was really quiet so no excuse for the bad service. This is now the second time we all felt let down. Visited again tonight, and the service was even worse!! How hard can it be to serve pub grub? If the staff spent less time chatting to their mates and more time looking after paying customers, this place could be amazing. Personally, `i'll stick to the Ring O Bells in Daresbury! Also, populated by parents who think it is okay to inflict their children on other diners.

As our local pub, we really want this place to be a success, the cosmetic improvements made are great and the outside area perfect in the sun BUT it needs some VISIBLE management, service is simply non-existent, a group of clueless young kids left to their own devices with no leadership, mentoring or training, we've eaten here 3 times now since the upgrade, lunch the first time half the meals never appeared after an hour we requested a refund and left, the second time after ordering we were told they were out of fish & chips so made second choices, both the second choices and the fish and chips arrived at the table with 2 clueless waitresses looking vacantly at each other, after 3 attempts at trying to explain they still hadn't hadn't got it so we gave up, and finally we tried again only to wait 1 hour 45 for meals served on cold plates, the first people served had finished by the time the last meals arrived, triple cooked chips ?? no plain bog standard frozen chips, huge woody chunks of cinnamon left in the sea bass dishes, I do feel for the poor under prepared staff fencing off constant complaints and being put in positions I'm sure they're not paid or trained to be in, going to stick to only drinking there and quiz nights we so want to support the place, but the quality of both the food and the food service need a severe overhaul before I'd ever think of eating here again.

After years of mis management and lackluster ownership. The Red Lion opened its doors after what seemed like an eternity and. 250k make over. Which dodgy outfit priced and timed this job up? What a complete waste of at least 150k 20 grands of timber that will be rotting and covered in slim this time next year that no one will go near it does not a pub make. Mis matched end of line I assume tiles on the floor. Someone would of been better just getting a manager in that actually has a background in the service industry and kitchen staff who's heads are not so far up their own, anyway I will leave it up to you to have your own opinion. My opinion what a waste the simple review ' must do better '2 out of 10' all the wood will make a cracking bomb fire next year though. At least something to look forward to.

Visited with friends for a meal. Managed to have a table in the outside which was lovely, great with friends. Ordered the meal. The starters, olives, grilled mackerel with salad which was amazing, our friends ordered mushrooms in stilton sauce which was an ok dish, plus haddock risotto which was great. Our mains we had to wait over 45 minutes for as they forgot. The waitress stressed she was serving on her own. Finally served lasagnia which was fine, chicken with prawn curry which was lovely (according to our friend). My husband ordered the fish, chips, peas. The fish was fab; batter amazing and we are fussy. We prefer it thin and it was. I ordered the seabass with broth. The seabass was cooked beautifully, however the broth was so salty. It required less soya sauce a dash of lime to cut throuth the salt and a little chilli. The waitress provided a round of drinks to compensate the 45 minute wait. The chef needs to improve. They need more staff so that they do not forget their visitors.

We have been going to the Red Lion for many years and it's had it's ups and downs with the various managers, however we were looking forward to trying out the new refurbished pub when it reopened. We decided to go for Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago, having looked at the menu beforehand to see that Sunday roast was on offer alongwith a standard menu and a barby menu. We arrived just after 16.30 to be told that there was no food available, no Sunday roast nor the standard menu, only the barby menu. As it was lashing down with rain and turned cold this was not a great alternative! Hence we left and enjoyed a Sunday roast at the Ring O' Bells. What pub (that's always served great hot food) goes through a massive 240K refurbishment, to then not have most of it's advertised menu available with no explanation given?? No apology given neither. I know that we weren't the only customers to feel this way. I've never known the Red Lion to offer such poor service where food is concerned in all of the years that we have been coming here. Suggestion: that you remove all menus and put a note up on the blackboard if you don't have food available so that customers can make an informed choice on what is available when entering the pub and update your Facebook page.

What struck me was that the staff were unwilling or unable to even speak or pass the time of day, tried to briefly discuss the Bombardier Ale and was met with stares of exasperation, staff didnt know the difference between sparkling and still water and had to go and ask. I asked for the free wifi password and was met with confused stares and a shrug of the shoulders, asked him to go and ask someone and and he just walked away. The pub apears to be unchanged for years since the extension was built at the rear, but it needs better people staffing it, people that have the character to pass the time of day confidently with 100's of strangers each week. No complaints over the food, would eat there again, Bombarier ale was a bit lifeless, so had a water. Too much competition nearby that is better.

My family and myself went to the Red lion for Sunday lunch. The service was good however the meal was very poor. We all had the roast beef; the beef itself was difficult to cut and very chewy. On top of this the broccoli and carrots were close to raw, i don't mind al dente but these were less than that.

Travelling on a canal boat on the Bridgewater Canal we were pleased to find this pub just four minutes walk from the tow path. The pub grub menu was a standard type of offering but we chose meals from the specials board and were delighted with the meal.

The Chips are to die for..... three times cooked home made chips, crispy on the outside and fluffy heaven on the inside, the best I have tasted for many years, The steak was also excellent as was the Mushroom and the Microcress (The dressing was divine). I will definitely be back to taste other options, well worth the trip out

Lived here for 35 years we have at last one of the best chefs in Cheshire,Rick Allen. I can happily highly recommend this pub for dining and I can actually walk there. I had no idea we had this chef I recognised him from the quality of his food.

People nice enough but food still needs some work. Had fish (batteted cod) and chips, fish and batter was greasy, chips very good! Partner had steak burger which was solid and too dry to eat, chips were good! Prices reasonable and beer good.

Went to the Red Lion for Sunday Lunch, 1.30pm on a Sunday and only 1 mum and son in there, this should have rang warning bells. Had the “ROAST” beef Sunday dinner, this beef had never been near an oven, my husband said it had been boiled. VILE. We try and stay local and support local businesses but never again. Have tried a couple of times but there is always something disappointing about it. Flies everywhere, food not brilliant and staff mediocre. There are other pubs and restaurants who I will be happy to give my money to.

I heard that yet again this place had changed hands, I wish it had changed staff, it’s amazing what a difference staff can make to a run of the mill pub. Nothing special here if you are thinking of it.

Great food served today in the Red Lion. Took my father in law for a father's day treat. It was quiet as we went after lunch and before dinner however the service and quality if the food was great. Highly recommended!

Really good to see this pub reopen - strategically located near the canal side and an excellent destination for an afternoon walk. Beer is well kept (Marston’s 61 Deep IPA and local brewery Coach House Cheshire Gold ale). Food was excellent - we had chicken bacon sandwiches on toasted ciabatta (choice of bread) with homemade chips at one of the picnic tables in the beer garden. Generous portions. The only criticism we could muster was whilst there was loads of chicken the bacon was a little lacking. Still giving 5 stars as we had such a good experience - friendly staff, good food, descent beer, all whilst sitting in the sunshine.

Good little stop over when having a stroll along the canal especially when the sun is out - there are tables and chairs to sit out and enjoy a swift pint or G&T.; The food is nothing to write home about but if you are looking for a quick "tea" then it is more than adequate. I have been told it has been taken over recently so this review maybe completely different next time we visit.

We had previously been to The Red Lion on a regular basis but this was our first visit since it has recently reopened under new management. Living locally rumours were abound regarding its sudden closure early in the year but these were soon put to rest.

Been for a meal a couple of times since re-opened under new management. Food cooked to order, plenty of it, tasty and served hot - not been kept hanging around in the kitchen going cold, as can happen in some places. Served with a smile, and an enquiry if everything was OK...yes, it was. Yes, it could do with a lick of paint maybe, but hey, it's early days for the new people. Give them a chance. They've had a lot to sort since the previous lot did a runner. If you have a particular dietary need, they say to ask, and they will do their best to accommodate.

We have just moved into the area and thought we would try the pub for an early evening meal. We entered off the car park and had to go through the vault (or what I think was a vault) to get to the restaurant. It may have been possible to go round the front - I will check next I go, as it didn’t feel great taking a 11 year old through it. All that said, as others have said, it is a pub so I am probably just being picky. We ordered drinks and food easily and quickly and were all impressed with how quick it was and the general quality. It isn’t expensive or really cheap - probably about right for the food in offer. Friendly staff and good food, we will go again.

Read the Red Lion had recently re-opened. Clearly has not been through a major re-fit but so what. The hand pulled beer was excellent with two choices on offer. Our party of 5 were delighted with the food and service. Very quirky pub with no two chairs or tables matching but comfortable and friendly. The pub and the village well worth a visit.

This is unfortunately one of the hundreds of pubs that close each year. This isn't the first time that it has closed. Having seen the rent when it was last advertised, I am not surprised. Maybe somebody else will take it on, but if the rent doesn't reduce I can see this happening all over again.

A really average pub with a dark and dated interior, no charm and little to mark it out except the helpful waitress. My husband enjoyed his fish and chips and said the batter was excellent, but I found the menu choice really poor and couldn't find anything that really appealed. There were no specials on the specials board, no cottage pie because the butcher had forgotten to send the mince, no ginger beer.... you get the point.

Called in early evening mid week , although the pub was quiet the locals were gathered at the bar making getting served difficult , once ordered we sat at a quiet table (18) and waited for our food . What arrived was a little disappointing at the price , the mixed grill was poor quality and value as was the steak and ale pie . The toilets and pub as a whole were a little grubby and generally just scruffy , I felt a little embarrassed for suggesting there but it looks so nice when driving past , over all disappointed as I expected better and it has the potential to be so much better .

Called in for lunch on a weekday. There were quite a few people at the bar waiting to order food and drinks, but only one person serving so it took a while to get our drinks and order food. That said, though we were expecting quite a wait for food given the number of orders ahead of ours, it arrived in reasonable time and the waitress was pleasant. We both had baguettes and chips. The tuna and cheese melt was pretty average, although the sausage and onion one was very nice as were the chips and portion sizes were decent. It seems to be a popular place and appears to be well patronized by regular customers.

How very sad to see a lovely pub like this so empty. I've been here lots of times over the years, and sorry to see it decline in the way it has.Not surprised as food the prices are beyond silly. Mixed grill ÂŁ17 ? For a country pub???? 8oz Rib Eye ÂŁ19? Needs a lot of TLC and a decent menu, with reasonable pricing if its to entice customers in.

Seemed nice and clean and welcoming inside. We had one cheese ploughman's roll and one turkey and stuffing roll. To drink, two cappuccinos and then a small chocolate shortbread. It came to ÂŁ22. I was so shocked at the price that I queried it, which I wouldn't usually do. Turns out that the rolls cost around ÂŁ7.50 each, even though the displayed price on them was around ÂŁ4.65. I was told this was the eat in price. Shame that was not clearly displayed anywhere. I was actually told that it should have cost ÂŁ24 but we had been given a discount on the shortbread. Nothing was provided with the prepackaged rolls, like a salad garnish. So, extremely expensive for a roll and coffee. The food was nice enough but I felt overcharged and annoyed that the "eat in" price was not clearly shown. Will make sure we don't visit any of their shops again. We eat out a lot and I have rarely felt so ripped off.
