The best restaurants serving British food in Eden North West

Don’t even bother to try and get through to book a table. No one ever answers or responds to emails. Incredibly poor communication systems

As soon as we walked into this pub, we knew it was going to be good. A small, community run pub with 2 roaring log burners and a warm welcome! I ordered one of the cocktails, the berry one and it was delicious and my partner ordered the alpaca lypse and they let him keep the glass it came in. We then ordered our mains and both had the pie; it didn't disappoint. There was so much meat and the gravy was lovely. Pudding was also amazing; two big portions of syrup sponge and chocolate fudge cake. When we are back in the lakes, we will definitely be back!

I have to confess that I was blown away with the quality of the food... usually gatropubs are hit and miss... but this one is excellent and so are the staff Booking is essential

I hired Laura to be my florist for my wedding and was overwhelmed with how beautiful the flowers that she provided for my and the bridesmaids bouquet , button holes ,and table flowers. The quality and service she gave were brilliant and would highly recommend her.

Acorn Bank is a splendid place to visit and made even more so by a visit to the pop-up cafe situated in the court yard. Run by a mother and daughter team, the homemade cakes using produce from Acorn Bank's garden, a wonderful cup of locally sourced coffee and an extremely warm and friendly welcome made a lovely day out even more special. Highly recommended.

Great little country pub, saved by the locals and run by a super amenable landlord. Serves good food, which is of a high standard and good value. Can get v busy. Probably need to book for dinner. Gordon Ramsey would approve of menu - its not too big and yet everything is consistently done well. Popular with locals and tourists apart. Worth the detour.

We are a walking group of eleven friends who arrange an annual trip and this year we were pleased to be in the Penrith area We were even more pleased to find a restaurant called Grants at Castlegate. The food and service were excellent and all our group were very happy with all aspects of our visit

This was honestly one of the best meals we have ever had! We have eaten at several Michelin star restaurants over the years including 3 star ones and 1863 restaurant is equally as good if not better! We could not fault any of the dishes we ate and they were both beautifully presented and delicious! The waitresses were so attentive and friendly and made the whole experience perfect. We were celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary and we will remember this meal for a long time…..thank you so much!

What an absolutely fantastic dog friendly cafe this is, The owners couldn't have been more welcoming. I had a very scared rescue dog with me, and they were so sweet to her, even giving her treats.. The tea and vegan cake were delicious, I would be in here all the time if it was nearer home. They clearly have a devoted clientele of locals which is a recommendation in itself. I thoroughly recommend you stop off here when you're in Kirby Stephen.

Very welcoming, friendly and efficient service. Good wholesome food. Good choice for veggies and vegans. Lovely setting.

A great find for lunch off the beaten track.

Amazing baked goods can especially recommend the traditional pasty. It was that good I returned today to test another one 10/10. The cakes also taste better than they look and they look really good anyway. Sorry no pictures as I had eaten it all, every last crumb. 😃

As car enthusiasts we are always driving over hartside and looking for somewhere to stop and eat on our journey. I can honestly say in the area this is the nicest place we have stopped by far. The food and drinks ( Hawkstone on tap ) were delicious and the people we spoke to there were so polite and friendly we will definitely be back. It made our day thank you 🙂

Well maintained grounds. Quiet village, local shop & PO. Train STN, famous Settle to Carlisle line. Great location for exploring, walking.
