Whilst staying locally we went for dinner at this friendly pub. We would highly recommend as food was delicious and we was made to feel welcome by staff who was very friendly. The only regret we had was not visiting there sooner as it was our last evening in the area. We do hope to visit great asby again soon and will be popping in again for more meals.

Absolutely lovely friendly village pub with delicious food. We visited as a family of five and the chap behind the bar was really friendly and made us feel welcome (I think he was the owners brother). We ordered our food and all five us were really happy with our meals, which included traditional pub grub, lasagne, sausage and mash, chicken and chips and an all day breakfast. all were absolutely delicious. Whilst we waited for our food we played darts and pool which kept our teens occupied. We would definitely come again and would recommend if you are visiting the surrounding area.

Family pub which is very welcoming. Quiet when we called in but didn't feel uncomfortable. Food is lovely we had the ceaser chicken salad and Hunters Chicken. The chips are homemade exactly how my mum used to make them. Apple pie and custard was a nice end to the meal.. Would definately recommend.

Local pub to where we were staying for a short break. We visited with our black lab and it was very dog friendly, in fact there were another two black labs in the pub! Food was delicious and all home made, including the chips. Staff were chatty and brought gravy bones out for our dog. We enjoyed a few games of pool and chatted to others who were visiting, lovely atmosphere. Great traditional pub.

We've visited this pub in the past around 5 years ago and it was superb, All home cooked food and not overly expensive with silly gastro style portions. So we decided to visit again, Although am sure it's different owners than last time from what I can remember but the food and cost hasn't changed much. Firstly the pub is smallish, So if after food on a weekend booking is advisable, It's very busy with friendly locals drinking and popping in for takeaway food. The Food took around 45 mins to cook and be brought to the table, Yeah it felt awhile but what do you expect when everything is home made as much as possible. The land lord and lady we're pleasant and not pushy like some pubs I've been to. The food is superb and nothing is it much trouble they even swapped items the kids wouldn't eat. The pub is also dog friendly and has WiFi available which is useful to know. The pub was so good we actually booked for the following week when we'd finished our first meal.

While visiting the in laws in Appleby we decided to give this pub a visit on New Year’s Eve . I have to say we weren’t disappointed . Having only been in once before on Boxing Day for a quick couple of pints I knew it was going to be fine . When we walked in it was like walking in to my own local so warm was the welcome from staff and locals alike A fantastic community pub in the middle of a fantastic community . We will definitely treating this as our local when we are up here again and I suggest who ever reads this does the same

I am hoping to be constructive in this review. The pub is in a very attractive location and there are plenty of brown tourist signs giving directions. The pub has so much potential and the new owner clearly has enthusiasm. He was very welcoming and friendly. We were his only customers on a Sunday lunchtime. We were hoping for a traditional Sunday roast and were disappointed to be told that these were only served occasionally. The menu looked OK for a pub and promised homemade dishes. I am not going to dwell on the food but it did not live up to expectations. I wish the new owners all the luck in the world and really hope that they can make a success of the business.

Called upon this pub after a word of mouth recommendation. A great 'locals' pub but warmly welcoming to walkers like us (with dog!). The locals and landlord were chatting to us all evening; it couldn't have been friendlier. We had some food - fish and chips and the gammon. My partner said it was the best gammon he's ever had! The fish and chips were also divine. Proper pub fayre and hearty portions. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening here and hope to come straight back on our next visit to the area.

What an absolute joy. Given the pandemic we phoned the pub prior to renting a cottage locally - to see if/when they served food. Right from the get-go on the phone they were lovely and helpful - this bodes well We’ve been twice now in the period of a week - all the staff are ‘spot on’ - the food is good ‘honest’ food - well made, fresh - well presented and very tasty. However the homemade cheesecake is glorious, and not to be missed Good local brewery beers on tap, clean and well looked after The locals are friendly - the village is pretty and tucked away What’s not to love

Volveremos. Tina

On our 1st night in Appleby-in-Westmorland, I chose to eat here by reading the reviews on trip advisor. Its a very cute and cosy inn. Make sure you book a table as you may not have one if you don't as it can get busy. I asked if I could try a Whitleys new flavoured gin and he gave me some in a small glass. I was pleased with that. I don't know the young lads name but he was serving in the bar and he recently got his A levels results. so, thank you for your good customer service. I had the fish and chips, it was a good portion size for me, it was very yummy along with the homemade tartare sauce and mushy peas. My partner had the lasagne and the homemade chunky chips and that was delicious too. We also shared the Eve's pudding. Thank you also to the young lad that served us and kept checking with us if everything was okay. I love the personal touch that you have with your customers. So great to see this pub with plenty of punters on a random Thursday in early April. This pub has previously been pretty quiet and didn't seem to get the numbers it needs and deserved. I think the new management is a massive contributing factor and I really hope it continues. The food was absolutely brilliant, and the beers were a solid choice - was nice to overhear Dave the landlord chatting to a local about his preference to support local brewery's for their ales. I received a flyer inside the local newspaper advertising this pub and encouraging customers to visit the village pub at Great Asby. With friends on Saturday 8th October, we drove 15 miles to the village to have a drink with a view to eating there on another occasion. I checked the website through the local parish council to ensure its opening times, and although it stated the kitchen was closed, we wanted to try the place for a drink. On arrival at 12.30pm, the pub was closed. I telephoned the pub at 5.15pm and there was no reply. What a way to run a business ? With hundreds of flyers inserted in a local newspaper advertising the place, it remains a mystery and I won't bother ever returning. Pubs like this give others a bad name in the Eden Valley.

Good warm welcome. Very chatty and informative owner. Spoke about the floods to the village. Offered a basic lunch menu. Sandwiches, soup & baguettes. Ordered two sandwiches £11.00. Small but fresh. There isn't much on the High Dales walk at times and so this was a welcome stopover.

Stopped for a bite to eat on our way home. Good, traditional pub food presented very nicely. The steak pie was homemade and was excellent. Service was very good and the whole atmosphere was friendly from both staff and other clientele.

We have visited this pub twice previously and always had a warm welcome and lovely food. My wife and I decided to visit again on Friday evening arriving just before eight o clock. We were informed that despite there being several vacant tables they could not provide us with any food and the cook was about to go home!! We noticed the menu on the wall and realised that this was no longer the pub we had remembered which served excellent freshly prepared food. This is now a very ordinary pub which will only serve you if you want to eat early!

We were in this pub twice while on an Easter break, once for drinks including coffee and hot chocolate and once for dinner. On both occasions the service from the friendly staff was excellent. The food was freshly cooked, tasty and served piping hot. The menu is not extensive and is actually a board on the wall, three of us had fish and three had steak pie, both of which were lovely. The desert menu was also a winner. There was live music on the Saturday and it sounded good but we couldn't stay because our children were tired. However the children and the dog were all made welcome. It would be advisable to book if you want to eat because it is not very big, the night we ate there all the tables in the dining area were reserved.

Visited this traditional country pub on Saturday evening. We started with some of the local real ale which was so tasty that we decided to stick with it through our meal. There has been a change of emphasis on the food front in recent months at The Three Greyhounds with it concentrating on good quality pub grub rather than anything more elaborate. The menu is relatively short; no more than can be displayed on the chalk board by the bar. However there is a good selection, enough to tempt most palates. We certainly enjoyed everything that we ordered, as it seems did our fellow diners. We had eaten fairly early but as the evening worn on the pub got more and more busy with a jolly clientele of mostly local people. Clearly the added draw was the live entertainment - a solo singer/guitarist who provided excellent entertainment for the next couple of hours. I believe his name was Nathan Richardson. If this is a sign of things to come at The Three Greyhounds then I wish them the best of luck - good food, good beer, and a most convivial atmosphere - what more do you want?

I had the most perfect sausage and bacon roll this morning, my guilty pleasure when I‘m in town first thing It’s always freshly prepared by the loveliest staff. I confess I’ve never been at lunchtime, but I wish I had, the options look amazing .

Couldn't believe the selection of different coffees on offer for a cafetiere and so reasonably priced just like the delicious scones. All the advice about the area and where else to eat was extremely helpful. What a delightful friendly place!
