Want to be able to give it more stars :/ Nice to have a chip shop in such a small village. Easy to find, nice young woman behind the counter. As she was cooking the fish, I thought - hmm- should be now.... or now... or now. Well, so probably was, so a bit overcooked. Chips were good (glad I saw her salt/vinegar an order or 2 before mine so I could say 'no, thank you' to waaaay too much salt. Got an order of cold slaw. Ok - was a serving of mayo with some cabbage in it. Hope they consider some adjustments! Then would recommend.

A fantastic place to stay if you want to be near Scarfell Pike. We stayed in the Eal Tarn. Such great value for money. The place has everything you need with beautiful sunset views. The staff in the bar can’t do enough for you, all very friendly. The food is very good. Lovely atmosphere. Can’t fault this place at all, a really nice hidden gem

Came here to stay at the premier inn. When we came too early to check in, we decided to check out the restaurant, sat down and then we're asked if we had been sat down/booked (the place was empty), staff didn't seem to pleased to actually have customers in the place. Second visit was the day after for our premier inn breakfast we had already paid for - cooked breakfast looked vile and I avoided, barely anything available for the pastries, and just not worth the money I paid for it. Final visit was later this day we decided to try lunch here as barely any other restaurants were open in the area (so basically the last resort), we go in to find the restaurant again empty, ask to be seated and are told they can't take anymore walk ins..... There were 10+ tables empty. At this point I lost all patience with the place. Avoid at all costs! The place is dirty, we noticed the floor hadn't been cleaned each time we visited, the toilets were abysmal and just wouldn't want to go in even if I were paid to. If you stay at the premier inn, don't waste your money on any food here.

We had been warned it got very busy so had booked a table. When we arrived it was already packed so had high expectations! Sadly we were very disappointed. The service was poor and the food was not good. My wife chose fish and chips ‘because you can’t mess that up’ but struggled to eat it as it was swimming in grease. The mash with my Cumberland sausage tasted like Smash made on a camp stove by my mother on camping holidays in my youth! Not a good recommendation 😂. There’s very little choice of establishments locally so they have a captive audience so I guess little motivation to drive improvement

This was the biggest disappointment we have ever had eating out and we've being eating out for lots of years. Afternoon tea was £30 pp but I am afraid the view was all that we could recommend We were seated at a table less than 30cm from the joining table that was also laid for afternoon tea. When the food arrived we were allocated three small finger sandwiches each...one grated cheese one cream cheese and one with a minute amount of processed ham....the slimey kind. No crisps, no garnish... The middle layer on offer was four scones between two of us.....I am not sure who eats two scones in one sitting but good on you if you can. The top tier was several very small pieces of what I would call tray bakes...easy to prepare and even easier to serve with little or no skill. The final big let down was when we were joined in the lounge by an couple wearing very short dressing gowns and apparently not much else. I am surprised they chose to enter a formal lounge in such attire and even more surprised they were encouraged to We did speak to the young man serving us at the time but I am afraid he was not able to offer any resolution. I have subsequently emailed the hotel and not received a response

First impressions weren’t good, chairs dirty - fabric not easy to keep clean in this environment. The lady on the till was nice and helpful but really slow taking orders. Tables kept clean but food on the floor. Food was good and decent portion size for the price.

Ate in the bar area on my way to Eskdale, as I had read about here in the AA Restaurant Guide. I certainly wasn't disappointed and found the service to be very friendly and the prices extremely reasonable (under £17 for a starter and a main). The starter was an extremely tasty chicken gyoza dumplings with a pea shoot salad and a sweet chilli sauce. My main consisted of a huge slab of chicken and leek pie with seasonal vegetables, thick cut chips and pan gravy. I couldn't eat any more after this as the pie was so huge, but ever so tasty. It was packed full of tasty filling and encased in a lot of pastry. It wasn't fancy, but was very rustic. If you love pie then definitely venture to here. I would certainly recommend this venue to others in the area....😁😁

Still an excellent place to eat with high standards. Please consider bringing hot plates with food instead of giving cold plates when the order is taken.

On entering the premises we were met by a female member of staff who seemed quite put out we had arrived. Have you booked a table she said. No we would just like a drink. Oh well you will have to sit at the bar not a table. We were served by very miserable staff who looked like they would rather be somewhere else.

We pre-booked to go for my birthday. On arrival we were shown to one of the tables with high chairs. I have a problem with my knee so this would have been painful. The staff kindly moved us even though it was almost full. The food was good and the staff were very attentive and friendly. I'd definitely recommend pre booking as we went on a Friday evening.
