Shockingly bad.£5 something for pie peas and gravy to go and the dogs wouldn’t even eat it. The pie was tasteless and had a thick layer of undercooked pastry, the peas were like bullets and the gravy was just coloured water. They must have worked really hard to get that as bad as it is. I dread to think what the other food is like if they can’t even make this.

Want to be able to give it more stars :/ Nice to have a chip shop in such a small village. Easy to find, nice young woman behind the counter. As she was cooking the fish, I thought - hmm- should be now.... or now... or now. Well, so probably was, so a bit overcooked. Chips were good (glad I saw her salt/vinegar an order or 2 before mine so I could say 'no, thank you' to waaaay too much salt. Got an order of cold slaw. Ok - was a serving of mayo with some cabbage in it. Hope they consider some adjustments! Then would recommend.

Warm, friendly, traditional Lakeland Inn with good food. Lovely open fire. Nice atmosphere with a mixture of locals and holiday makers.

First visit. Very welcoming staff. Bar and dining area had a good mix of locals and weekend visitors. Extensive menu. Food was very good and service good too. Only downside for me was although food orders were taken at the table, drinks had to be ordered at the bar which felt a bit disjointed. Would happily visit again

This was the biggest disappointment we have ever had eating out and we've being eating out for lots of years. Afternoon tea was £30 pp but I am afraid the view was all that we could recommend We were seated at a table less than 30cm from the joining table that was also laid for afternoon tea. When the food arrived we were allocated three small finger sandwiches each...one grated cheese one cream cheese and one with a minute amount of processed ham....the slimey kind. No crisps, no garnish... The middle layer on offer was four scones between two of us.....I am not sure who eats two scones in one sitting but good on you if you can. The top tier was several very small pieces of what I would call tray bakes...easy to prepare and even easier to serve with little or no skill. The final big let down was when we were joined in the lounge by an couple wearing very short dressing gowns and apparently not much else. I am surprised they chose to enter a formal lounge in such attire and even more surprised they were encouraged to We did speak to the young man serving us at the time but I am afraid he was not able to offer any resolution. I have subsequently emailed the hotel and not received a response

Ate in the bar area on my way to Eskdale, as I had read about here in the AA Restaurant Guide. I certainly wasn't disappointed and found the service to be very friendly and the prices extremely reasonable (under £17 for a starter and a main). The starter was an extremely tasty chicken gyoza dumplings with a pea shoot salad and a sweet chilli sauce. My main consisted of a huge slab of chicken and leek pie with seasonal vegetables, thick cut chips and pan gravy. I couldn't eat any more after this as the pie was so huge, but ever so tasty. It was packed full of tasty filling and encased in a lot of pastry. It wasn't fancy, but was very rustic. If you love pie then definitely venture to here. I would certainly recommend this venue to others in the area....😁😁

On entering the premises we were met by a female member of staff who seemed quite put out we had arrived. Have you booked a table she said. No we would just like a drink. Oh well you will have to sit at the bar not a table. We were served by very miserable staff who looked like they would rather be somewhere else.

Food was lovely!! When the bill came we were charged a £1 for sauce we had two sauces disgusting!! Meals were at least £15 you wouldn’t normally charge for sauce and it was a plastic sachet!!! We would have tipped the staff who were really good but not after being made to pay £1 for a sachet of sauce will not be back sorry that is a rip off
