Ate in the bar area on my way to Eskdale, as I had read about here in the AA Restaurant Guide. I certainly wasn't disappointed and found the service to be very friendly and the prices extremely reasonable (under £17 for a starter and a main). The starter was an extremely tasty chicken gyoza dumplings with a pea shoot salad and a sweet chilli sauce. My main consisted of a huge slab of chicken and leek pie with seasonal vegetables, thick cut chips and pan gravy. I couldn't eat any more after this as the pie was so huge, but ever so tasty. It was packed full of tasty filling and encased in a lot of pastry. It wasn't fancy, but was very rustic. If you love pie then definitely venture to here. I would certainly recommend this venue to others in the area....😁😁

Dropped in without a reservation, staff happy to accommodate. Excellent food with enough choice to suit our tastes. Reasonable choice of wine to compliment the menu.

Have just eaten in the restaurant tonight and could not fault anything at all! The ambience, the food, the presentation, the staff, the service- all excellent! Would definitely visit again. One only slight downside they didn't have any non-alcoholic beer for the driver!

We went mid week for lunch and the main meal was very nice. We had a Greek salad & a Cumberland Sausage. We decided on dessert we received the menu but the waitress then disappeared for over half an hour before taking our order. We ordered Gingerbead in Rum sauce with Cocoa Sorbet. When it arrived the gingerbread was not fresh and seemed as though it had been frozen, then defrosted. The sorbet was quite bitter and left a bitter taste in my mouth for most of the afternoon. I then ordered a Mocha coffee and well I wasn't expecting filter coffee from a peculator and chocolate powder mixed. Luckily we had a Taste Card and it was buy one get one free otherwise I would have been disappointed. The evening meal menu looked very nice so may try that next time.

We dined here recently (midweek) for dinner and found the lack of variation on the menu disappointing. That said the food was very good, however the service left a lot to be desired. I asked for a glass of sauvingnon blanc and after a wait of 15 mins I was given a warm glass of chardonnay. I pointed this out and was given some ice to put in my glass. My husband ordered a pudding and had to ask for cutlery. It's a shame little things let this place down as the grounds etc are fab.

As a party of 30 we chose to try the Priory restaurant as it is ideally close to our workplace and the meals we ordered were well presented and above average in taste and flavour. The hotel staff were extremely attentive and we didn't feel rushed and the 3 courses were well received by us all. There were a couple of niggles with the Pannacota texture, which wasn't to everyone's taste but I do think we all thought the Xmas meal as a whole, was really good.

It is a small menu, but I appreciate that and prefer a short menu because it means greater attention to each dish. I had a few quibbles but generally the food was well cooked and served. Goats cheese starter was not cooked quite to my taste. I prefer the cheese to be melted not raw and cold. If it is not cooked sufficiently it is cloying in the mouth, and that is not good. The gravadlax salmon was also not correctly cured, in my opinon. It was tough and not flavoursome enough. On the plus side, the turkey escalopes with cumberland sausage was lovely. It was an interesting way to present the Christmas dinner theme. I also loved the rump of lamb and my husband enjoyed his duck breast. Both were cooked to our specification (rare) and the accompanying sauces were well flavoured. Unfortunately the fondant potato was inconsistent. Mine was not cooked properly but my husband's was fine. I would have liked to see more parsnip puree with the lamb. It was mentioned on the menu but hardly featured on the plate. We enjoyed our desserts.

Oh dear! It was my wifes birthday and we decided to go with friends for Sunday Lunch at the Sella Park Hotel. I am old enough to remember when this hotel was one of the most respected hotels in the area. However on this particular Sunday we were in for a shock. The Sunday Lunch menu consisted of 3 choices for starter - soup, Chicken Liver Parfait (which was just a lump of pate) or smoked salmon and prawns on a bed of lettuce with marie rose sauce. Main course was Gnocci, Salmon or Turkey (with all the trimminings). Pudding consisted of Christmas Pudding, Pavlova or cheese and biscuits. Not only was this the most lazy menu I have encountered but we all thought we'd been given an old Christmas menu by mistake. Come on chef at least try to put some imagination into the menu. Did you think that because it was January it was OK to drop standards? Other diners were complaining in the dining room that there was a lack of red meat as a choice. The receptionist/barmaid/waitress could have been more friendly or apologetic (she even brought us christmas crackers). Sella Park is a beautiful old building and what we saw of the hotel looked really nice but someone needs to have a word with whoever is in charge of Sunday Lunches. At £16.95 it was a joke.

I didn't actually stay here as I live fairly close by. Five friends and I went for dinner at the beginning of May. Firstly, we had many problems trying to make a booking. Eventually my friend rang The Pennington (the sister hotel) to get the correct number as there seems to be several numbers available for the place which no-one answers. When she rang on the day to confirm the exact time the table was booked for it took her 4 attempts, at different times during the day, before the phone was answered. Once we actually arrived there things seemed better. The menu has an impressive selection (much being local). Once in the dining room however, things started to go downhill. There were only 2 waitresses who were running back and forward as they were also covering the bar. Our starters arrived and on the table we had butter and side plates but no bread. We didn’t see a waitress until one came to clear the starter plates after we had all finished. She commented that we hadn’t got bread so brought some then. The men ordered pints of beer at the table and had to ask for these 3 times before they finally arrived. Once other diners had finished their meals the younger waitress started to set the tables for breakfast making us feel that we had outstayed our welcome. One of our party ordered cheese and biscuits. The butter had been removed from the table. We didn’t see a waitress for more than 5 minutes so everyone else had finished their dessert before he got the butter and started his cheese. One of us ordered a coffee and it was nearly cold by the time the milk/cream was brought to the table. Again it had to be asked for. The bill was put on the table at about 10.20pm (without us asking for it) making us know we had outstayed our welcome. We had another drink in the lounge until our taxi arrived at 11.15pm. By now the waitresses had gone home and we were left with the night porter! We all agreed that the place could be really good if all these small problems were addressed. The bill for the 6 of was fairly expensive by local standards and whilst we do not mind paying this price for a good meal we certainly don’t expect to feel like we are an inconvenience. Overall, we enjoyed the evening but just didn’t feel welcome or that our custom was valued. I have since emailed the owners who have apologised and said that the waiting staff were new and will be given more training. We have also been offered 10% off our next meal there. We will probably go back but will leave it a while.

Want to be able to give it more stars :/ Nice to have a chip shop in such a small village. Easy to find, nice young woman behind the counter. As she was cooking the fish, I thought - hmm- should be now.... or now... or now. Well, so probably was, so a bit overcooked. Chips were good (glad I saw her salt/vinegar an order or 2 before mine so I could say 'no, thank you' to waaaay too much salt. Got an order of cold slaw. Ok - was a serving of mayo with some cabbage in it. Hope they consider some adjustments! Then would recommend.
