First visit. Very welcoming staff. Bar and dining area had a good mix of locals and weekend visitors. Extensive menu. Food was very good and service good too. Only downside for me was although food orders were taken at the table, drinks had to be ordered at the bar which felt a bit disjointed. Would happily visit again

Stumbled upon this pub when staying in Eskdale after driving back from Wast Water. Didn’t know what to expect but everyone was very sweet & friendly; a real community spirit. I was very surprised by the amount of veggie and vegan options on their menu. My partner & I both having the veggie roast. The £17 veggie roast was by far the tastiest veggie roast I’ve ever had & barely fit on the plate. Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, carrots, suede, parsnips, veggie haggis, red cabbage, greens & gravy. Amazing! Highly recommend stopping by on a Sunday if you’re nearby! Thanks to the staff for being so welcoming & for the delicious meal

Pretty reasonable food at a fairly reasonable price. Nothing over exciting but it’s a warm inviting atmosphere and the service is pretty good considering how busy it is. Great selection of beers and we enjoyed the food! Could do with one or two fewer tables in the bar area to be honest!

I stayed here with a mate for two nights as we walked up Scafell Pike. It was a lovely pub with some nice beer, great selection of Whisky and the food was amazing. Sadly, as I was tired from all the walking I didn't get the chance from working my way through the Whisky but I hope to return with my wife. I would stay here again

We chose to use this pub after searching for vegetarian options. Both vegetarians and meat eaters in our party were not disappointed. Food was excellent. The only downside was that a couple of choices were not available due to a late delivery. However, the brisket burger instead of the steak and ale pie was really good. Service was efficient and friendly. Well behaved dogs, and even slightly behaved ones like ours, are very welcome. The one pint i had (driving) of the Eeerrmm was great. Sorry if that’s spelt wrong. The pub is off the beaten track and tricky to drive to at night, but well worth the trip.

We chose to stay at The Strands Inn when looking for a base for a couple of nights to fell walk in Wasdale. We booked two twin rooms between four of us and its was at an excellent price. The rooms were both clean and welcoming and perfect for what we wanted. The Screes Inn opposite is own by the same people so we had accommodation and breakfast in the Strands and food and drink in the Screes Inn. The service was outstanding, one of our party commented that the owners, Mark and Lesley couldn't do enough for us. All the cask ales were outstanding and brewed on the premises by the landlord. The food was also nothing short of outstanding... Steak and Ale Slab Pie and Slow Cooked BBQ Ribs the following night... perfect home cooked, hearty food. They even make their own gin and sauces and chutneys! How they find the time to do all this is an indication of how hard they work at it! We will definitely be going back. Feel like we found a real gem in the Lakes. Cant wait to visit again!

the location isn't great, it is in the middle of nowhere. The pub is very small and not attractive at all, it doesn't really make you feel like sitting down and have a drink. Staff is not very experienced and not that friendly either. The room is small, as it is the bathroom. The sheets were dirty and the shower was blocked, with water rising to my ankles. The person that was sent to fix it didn't have a clue and promised that someone would come in the morning to sort it out. It didn't happen. We told the owner and she didn't even offer a refund, she just said: "these things happen and there is no way we can know about it". Well, if the cleaner does her job she will definitely notice that water isn't flowing as it should!!! Breakfast was a joke, a little amount of food, It definitely looks like they are trying to get as much money as possible. Almost 100£ a night for a place like this is just not fair.

Booked here last year but covid meant we had to postpone. Leslie was so accommodating with the rebooting. Just stayed for afew days woth friends to walk Scafell Pike. The room was comfortable, clean and had everything needed. Breakfast served both mornings and was so tasty Leslie takes the orders and I beleive its her hus and Mark who does breakfast. Geoff the chap behind the bar is so friendly and goes above and beyond to make sure you are ok as do Leslie, Mark and the rest of the staff. Had and evening meal one night and the portion and quality was amazing. It's such a lovely friendly place and great find, will definitely book again of we decide to explore other mountains in the area. Thankyou all for a great stay.

What started off really well, ended up absolutely rubbish. We were staying at the local camp site and planned to have a bbq one night then eat here or The Strands one night. We went on the Friday night to be told that they were only feeding residents but coild get a table for drinks, which we were fine with. The guy who i think was maybe the manager, said if we came back on Saturday between 12-4 they will definitely feed us before residents come for their meal.So planned our day around going to eat there. Got there on the Saturday and was told there would be a 40 minute wait for food, again that is fine. So we sat and had a few pints while waiting. Only to be told after about 50 minutes that there was a 'fault' in the kitchen and they couldnt offer us a meal. Unable to drive elsewhere we were obviously a little pissed off. But they were also letting down families with young kids, who had also sat waiting.Dont actually think there was a fault at all, cos we when asked they said it was a fryer...with another kitchen over the road im sure this could of resolved the situation. Assuming also they managed to feed the people staying there. Shame because the menu looked great, but seemed they had taken on more than they could manage. Could do with hiring more staff!

Unwelcoming and rude landlady. We were asked to leave in front of the whole pub because we live NEAR a tier 3 area and we didn't have the Covid app, so couldn't scan the QR code. Although we were happy to give our details for track and trace like we have in every other place we have visited. I have never been so embarrassed, literally made to feel like we were diseased. So good to walk in from the rain to a log fire. Cosy pub and good food. We’ve been here before as the vegetarian options are varied and the food always good. We’d had a big breakfast so thought we’d order a light lunch from sandwich menu - haha, huge portions with fresh salad on the side. The hummus comes with fresh baked pitta. Entonces este tipo entra en un pub. .

Me and my wife went to the scree after eating the day before at its sister pub over the toad called the strand. There are 2 very different menus and after trying the menu at the strand we wanted to sample the scree menu. My wife had the scree burger and I had the hoisin duck pizza with a side of chips. The pizza was really large and freshly made and was excellent and you got a larger than expected portion of chips so much so that I asked for a takeaway box for half of my pizza to eat later. My wife really enjoyed the burger and found it to be more than enough. The staff are pleasant and even though it was busy and we had not booked they managed to fit us in after a little wait. It is very dog friendly as long as your dog is well behaved and they sell dog biscuits and poo bags for a pound and it’s a bargain. I recommend booking in advance so as not to be disappointed and try and get in early as they can sell out of somethings quickly but that to me is a sign of a good place to eat. Thank you so much for a great evening.

First time I have ate and stayed at the pub in two years. New management and a great improvement, great beer and food and the staff really good. Had the Cheese and Onion pie and the Ribs next night. Recommended..

Went for a lovely meal. The staff were so friendly, chatty and welcoming (especially the manager). The food was pub food with a fantastic vegetarian and vegan selection. The manager even asked if I had any allergies so went above and beyond the call. The pub was busy but still felt as though we were very much valued as a customer.

We had previously stopped for a pint, liked it so ended up in there for dinner one night. The staff were really very friendly indeed and most helpful. It's classic old world lake land character and decoration. We went on a Saturday early evening so lots of folk finishing the days walking in there which is great and as it should be. The menu for this pub was all American style or German sausages which we had , very tasty and generous portions which we all enjoyed. Our experience was great and we will visit again, it would be nice to see a slight variation on the menu but we have absolutely no complaints

We had a family meal here earlier this week. The menu is American diner/tex mex with burgers, giant German sausage hot dogs, ribs, chilli etc with an odd pub favourite such as cheese and onion pie thrown in. The food was OK and service fine to say how busy it was. Don’t think we’d come back though.

Weekend in The Lakes with a friend, we popped in here for dinner. I had the bbq pulled pork burger with chips and coleslaw, very Tasty, good portion size, extra bbq sauce when asked always a bonus. Good ale too! Friendly Staff, really nice pub in a fantastic location for visiting WastWater. There's a pub opposite too which serves good ale. Great atmosphere in both.

We went to the lakes for a short weekend away and came across this pub- staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating and made room for us on both nights we went despite them being super busy. The food was fantastic and good value for money. Staff couldn’t do enough for you and obviously were working really hard to meet the demand. Would definitely recommend, would recommend booking as it does get busy. Couldn’t fault it.

arrived at 8:15 after a day of walking since 3am and famished, we were advised walk in till 9pm so very dissapointed to be turned away, lpenty of room and all we wanted was a bowl of chips or something to eat! "sorry fully booked and chef goes home at 9pm" (on a busy saturday night!!, poor cusotmer service, fine example of a pub reliant on passing trade so they dont care about how they treat you, luckily the local B&B; that was closed! - offerred us food!

This is our second visit to the strands micro brewery/screes inn. It’s important to note when booking that these are 2...yes 2 separate locations!! They are directly opposite one another, owned by the same people apparently but they are 2 very VERY different experience’s in my experience...let me explain....we visited THE STRANDS last year, we stayed there, ate there...it was BRILLIANT..probably my favourite retreat I’d been too, great people, awesome food etc, so imagine my excitement on my 40th birthday when my brand spanking new wife told me she had booked us a minimoon break at THE STRANDS! I was chuffed!

A little chaotic at times but lovely food and helpful staff! Dog friendly and the local beer is excellent! Prepare for busy times to lead to oddities with the service but worth it!

We enjoyed our meal, having booked a table. Three of us chose the cajun salmon. It took a long time to arrive, luckily we weren't in a hurry. The jacket potato could have been hot but otherwise it was a tasty meal. We enjoyed the superb Malbec while we were waiting. The waitress did aplogise for the delay. All staff were friendly

Visited this pub on Sunday 3 June for something to eat. What a let down. The customer service we received was extremely negative. The food was average - I didn't get what was described to accompany my chilli con carne. We weren't made to feel welcome and the staff just seemed like they wanted to 'shut up shop'. Unfortunately I would not visit again for food.

Lovely food reasonably priced with good service! We ignored the more negative reviews and headed here for food and drinks. Menu was good, with plenty of veggie and vegan options. Service was quick and polite and atmosphere was lovely. Recommend 👍

Dropped in for lunch at this pub because they allow dogs in. The place was practically empty when we arrived at about 12.30 We waited some time for the food to arrive so not sure what the hold up was but on the whole it was ok despite being an overly adventurous menu. I suggest they stick to some traditional well known favourites and a less "nandoesc" style of food. Not sure if we would visit again or perhaps give the pub opposite a try.

Somehow we managed to spend £90 here, despite waiting 45 minutes for our starters! No one to greet us when we arrived, I had to go and hunt down menus because no one brought us any!

After three nights of awful food at the Wasdale Head Inn, some people at our B and B recommended this place. It was worth the short drive and we wished we'd done it earlier in the week. After sampling the ales on order our pints were brought over to our table after a very friendly welcome. We then ate a tasty chilli con carne at a very reasonable price. And a word about The Trainee Manager who looked after us most attentively. It was a shame we were going home next day.

See my review of The Strands it's sister inn. Lovely inn to stay at or just call for a drink or to eat. Owned by Lesley and Mark who also own The Strands & Microbrewery opposite. A warm welcome awaits.

The place is really lovely...but the food... We had a lunch today (13th of August) chicken curry, cumberland sausage and steak salad and some chips... Everything exept the sausage wasn't edible - no seasoning and the portiins has been really small 😔 By the "best"part...

Want to be able to give it more stars :/ Nice to have a chip shop in such a small village. Easy to find, nice young woman behind the counter. As she was cooking the fish, I thought - hmm- should be now.... or now... or now. Well, so probably was, so a bit overcooked. Chips were good (glad I saw her salt/vinegar an order or 2 before mine so I could say 'no, thank you' to waaaay too much salt. Got an order of cold slaw. Ok - was a serving of mayo with some cabbage in it. Hope they consider some adjustments! Then would recommend.
