We stayed on the attached Campsite while attending a wedding locally. What a find this place was. Excellent campsite with facilities on pitches, very well kept by Mark. Site security was excellent. Cafe onsite offered variety of food including fantastic homemade cakes made by Helen. Throughly recommend this place to stay over or just visiting the Cafe. Good selection of plants as well.

I go here regularly with my son and my Mum/his Nanny. Dena always gives the best service be it busy or not. She ALWAYS remembers your preference of drinks and will check this is what you're having before making it. The food she makes is tasty and reasonably priced,....and always has a great selection of sweet treats. Nothing is ever to much for her and we love it. Keep doing what you're doing Dena, as it really works!

So disappointed… we came here for New Years, £95 a person (including one glass of champagne on arrival to be fair, but none of the other drinks after). Plus some hats and balloons on the table which admittedly added to the atmosphere. We’ve eaten across the globe, at the Ritz etc and we know what to expect for the price. Our French server was fantastic and the music was lovely but we were so disappointed by the food. The chicken was dry and overcooked, same with the veg; which was a mixture of mulchy broccoli, carrot that had the consistency of baby food, and what seemed like leftover Brussel sprouts, all with no seasoning… like something you’d get at a primary school dinner. The duck was dry with the fat completely under rendered (still gooey). The rack of lamb was far more fat than lamb, and burnt on the edges (clearly had been waiting around for a while). We left before desert even came and were charged the full price of the meal without management even coming over to talk to us. In fact, they actively ignored us as we walked out. It seems like such a shame as it clearly has the potential to be a lovely bistro spot to rival some of the best places in Hitchin. We were so excited for this meal. Unfortunately they clearly had overbooked the small venue - and had added far more extra covers than the small kitchen could provide for. Personally I feel sorry for the poor chefs and waitress who had to try and handle the consequences of these poor choices from management. I hope they do better. But we will not be returning sadly - even though we are locals. If you are looking for a good quality meal we recommend you eat elsewhere (eg. Lussmanns).

This is possibly the most welcoming cafe in Hitchin, which is why we return regularly. The staff are great, the food is lovely (such a selection) and the price is not typical of Hitchin pretentiousness! Highly recommended.

I love the potting shed and go there often for a lunchtime treat, but will struggle to return. I dont know what has happened as the ladies serving are normally lovely and the food amazing. The wait for our food yesterday was an agonising 45 minutes with not an ounce of being bothered or a hint of apology from staff. I let them know we were there as required and after about 15 minutes of waiting for our order to be taken i went in to remind them we were there and asked for our order to be taken, explaining i was in my lunch break. A lovely man duly came out to take our order. It took another 30 minutes for our order to arrive, by which time we just wanted to get up and walk out, we were starving and really fed up waiting. It wasn’t busy. We are used to a lovely looking plate of food with a bit of salad and crisps with the sandwich, but when our lunch turned iup it was disappointing. The cheese and onion toastie sat lonely with its bit of green salad on the plate and truly not worth the £9.50 cost. It was nice, but not value for money. Especially after we waited 45 minutes for it without any recognition of the wait. I waited again to pay for an experience i hadn’t enjoyed which added to my frustration. I politely ask the man serving about the wait, i really wanted to have a big moan but held it in. He absolutely didn’t care less saying people had turned at at the same time ( it was not busy at all) and didnt bat an eyelid when he took my £35 for 3 sandwiches a latter and 2 glasses if apple juice. It really hurt handing over the money.

We were just out for a drive and thought we would stop here for a sandwich or something. Turns out they have a full lunch menu which looked good. I went with Hake in a pepper and tomato sauce, my wife had a steak with blue cheese on a flatbread. I’m a big fish lover but wasn’t expecting too much from a little place in Royston ! How wrong I was, the Hake was cooked to perfection and the sauce absolutely delicious with some new potatoes this was a really nice and unexpected lunch. My wife’s steak was also brilliant apparently. This was a very hot day and we sat at an outside table with shade with a lovely view over the Heath. A hidden little gem that is well worth a visit.

Delicious vegetarian food - home made gluten free scone was a real bonus and the mulled apple juice was just what I needed on a cold day.
