Absolutely gorgeous historic pub with a seriously delicious Sunday roast. Fast and friendly service too!

On the day we visited The Old George Inn restaurant it smelt of dogs, as they accept dogs. We will never go to the The George Inn again.

This was my first time in the Old George. We were there for a surprise 70th Party birthday party. The food was excellent and professionally presented for our group of 20 on time (all pre ordered) along with great service. We were all made to feel welcome by the staff and locals. There is a good selection of beers including real ales. This little gem is worth a try.

The most amazing chef, team, food and food presentation. A bit pricy, but you get what you pay for and costs really have increased everywhere over the past couple of years.

Really nice pub! Amazing food, you can tell the young chef loves his job. Good made with love: we had mushroom soups and coq au vin, way better than any average place in London. Quality of service and atmosphere, keep doing what you are doing!

Our private function was perfect in every detail. Trace and the team were great. Very highly recommended.

Perfect little pub. Quiet. Good music in the back ground. Good food, fast service. Lovely greeting from gent at the bar, very friendly, definitely recommend a visit. We ordered chicken burger and fries. The chicken was real chicken breast slices and seasoned well.. very surprising as we expected reformed breaded chicken burger . Food perfection.

A lovely Sunday lunch. Just there in time after our visit to Hitchin Lavender fields. Don't get out much these days because just like everyone else we've had to tighten our belts so this was a friendly, welcoming place for a spot of lunch. Highly recommend the roast beef.

Had a really nice lunch of sausages & mash and the day's special of chicken thighs with parmentier potatoes. Everything was delicious. It may cost a couple of pounds more than your average pub but the generous portions and quality of the ingredients were well worth it. And everything was topped off by a friendly barman. Will definitely be back again.

1st ever vist and it was great,beer was good and it was my kind of pub no loud music,no sky sports just conversations great. I will be back!!

Lovely old building, staff were friendly and there's plenty of space. They were doing a special BBQ event so the normal food was unavailable, so on that basis I won't score the food. We'll be back!

A great visit to this old style country pub with good food and a good choice of beers

We used to love going to the Old George, especially for their Sunday roast. However we found that over the past few months their prices have increased a lot. We went last week and we spent over £30 per person for a roast and a pint, which seems excessive. The food was lovely, but the portions were a bit scarce, especially for the vegetables, only a few green beans and a couple of potatoes. It's a shame, we love the place but it's now quite expensive for what is being served.

It's been a while, probably since last summer when I was here. After visiting the lavender fields nearby. We had dinner at The Old George. The atmosphere, staff, needless to say you can tell the food is Michelin star, its magnificent and reasonably priced. Chef also came out to be thanked by me. A definite 'must' place to visit. 🥂🇬🇧

Really delicious veggie Sunday lunch.

I was with a group of very wet cyclists whan we decided to stop for coffee at The Old George. We were made very welcome at the pub and were able to park our bikes under shelter. We really enjoyed the coffee and indulged in some delicious, crisp, homemade chips!

We visited for Easter sunday lunch and it exceeded our expectations, gorgeous food and lovely staff

Excellent Sunday roast, the best of the best. We had a table for 7, and we could do nothing but praise the staff. I will recommend it to everyone. Burrata to start, hog in the hole for mains and sunday sundae to finish 😋

We had a great meal out with friends here. The pub is a very cozy and welcoming country pub, with a real fire. We had 3 courses and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. Would recommend.

This is a lovely pub, the staff were friendly. Unfortunately the Sunday lunch we had today was poor. The beef was over cooked, the cauliflower in the cauliflower cheese (extra charge) was undercooked with a waterery sauce. Worst of all were the burnt Yorkshire puds, which were inedible. We did mention this to the waitress who said she would get some more, but seemed to forget about us. We will not be returning.

A lovely pub with pleasant staff. Bought drinks and sat outside. It was a sunny autumnal day. Most people preferred the outside space. All tables were 2 metre apart and it was good to see everyone obeying the 2m rule. Ordered Beer battered fish served with pub chips, tartare sauce and crushed peas. It was very tasty. However, the homemade shawarma, marinated Lamb, meditatenean salad and a tzatziki dip with fries was a disappointment. It looked and tasted very dry with little or no sauce. We told the waitress, she apologised and didn't have much to say. In as much that the meal was bellow par, I will visit the pug again but will ensure to avoid the home made shawarma.

Booked a table for my disabled mum. The management and staff were fantastic. Food and service outstanding. If I could give extra stars they thoroughly deserve more. I highly recommend The Old George. Thank you.

Not the best - stuck us in a very cold part of the pub, and it was cold enough that we all commented we should have brought coats with us. Staff forgot what we’d asked for a few times and we had to ask again. Roast was alright, but not amazing. Disappointing when they only do a limited Sunday roast menu (as it’s all they offer you expect it to be good). I had the hog in the hole and the Yorkshire pudding was soggy and the pork belly wasn’t brilliant. Maybe we just caught them on an off-day.

Went for the Wednesday bike night. Good venue, excellent beer, coffee available.

We stopped in The Old George for delicious coffee and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

I have recently had both lunch and dinner at The Old George and couldn't fault the service or the quality of food. The steak was beautiful and cooked perfectly. I will definitely be back to try something else on the menu.

Popped in there for lunch after visiting the nearby Lavender Field. Despite us turning up with 5 babies, we were welcomed! The service and food were outstanding. Thank you !

Cosy and friendly atmosphere, made for a great pitstop for Sunday lunch. We went for the three courses and it was definitely worth it, each course was excellent. The "Hog In The Hole" is a triumph. Ale selection was solid too. The service was a little slow, but I did not mind as we were in no rush!

We had a really nice meal here last Saturday. The food was excellent and the service was spot-on. Our only reservation was that having ordered desserts and coffee the coffee arrived a long time before the desserts. Not a big deal - next time we'll make it clear that we want the coffees to be served after all the food.

Lovely country pub. Didn't eat there but the menu looked good. Drinks very reasonably priced and a lovely building with low ceilings and period features, two nice beer gardens and lovely views across the village. Ickleford voyage is lovely too, lived around here for years and didn't know it was there. Definitely worth a visit.

Good food in pleasant surroundings

Since the new owners took over 12 months ago the pub restaurant has enjoyed significant success and it is really no surprise. The food is fantastic, the service excellent and a very comfortable atmosphere and environment can be enjoyed. Thoroughly recommend it.

Their mango and passion fruit sorbet is that good it’s like a Solero on speed

Wow! I stumbled across this beautiful pub by absolute chance and what a find! The staff here are the reason I keep coming back, Jordan and Rosie are the A team at front of house, the food is really nice and the pub is set in lovely surrounding!! Very very highly recommended, well done what a lovely team of staff you have there!

Very pricey food tastes good just would be better value if it came with vegetables. Small portions. Having to preorder is ok but it would be better not to have to.

The Old George is a really cosey pub in the lovely village of Ickleford right next to the church. They put on an excellent afternoon buffet for 20 plus people and have helpful friendly staff. The only negative is that wheel chair access was difficult but then the pub is not called The 'Old' George for no reason.

We had a lovely work's Christmas meal here last week. The food was amazing - the roast potatoes were especially good! The staff were so friendly and helpful and a great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend to friends and family!

Visited for a Christmas party. Had the marquee which was lovely. Great service from the staff bringing drinks etc. Downside was that we were told there would be gluten free food available in the buffet. Nothing there. A lovely waitress brought out a slice of toast and some houmous. Very disappointing considering the promise and the huge spread of food everyone else could eat.

Great Sunday roast - perfect beef with the best cauli cheese side we've had for a long time. Great friendly service and lovely atmosphere. Would highly recommend and look forward to visiting again.

Great village pub under relatively recent new management.

Fantastic tapas, my favourite was the pig mac n cheese, best mac n cheese I've ever had. Got to try a little bit of almost everything with friends and we all said it was well worth the money.

Visited Aug2019. Good food, well cooked, large portions. Fair value for money. Range of drinks is fair, for a corporate chain pub. ----- Visited Aug2020 upon response from the venue that new management has taken over. Great food, well cooked, huge portions. Wide range of drinks (beers, wines and spirits). Superb value for money. The standard is high enough for corporate entertaining in small groups. Today's menu review: Selection of British charcuterie with piccalilli and country toast (GBP 10 as at Aug2021) Haddock and chips with mushy peas and tartar sauce (GBP 14 as at Aug2021). The charcuterie: a large plate of cold meats, each with its own clear and distinct flavour, served with rocket, a couple of small gherkins and half a pickled walnut (I think) (underneath the greenery) (it was nice, whatever it was). The piccalilli is strongly savoury, slightly peppery with balanced acidity that meets the fat in the meat. The country toast is brittle, crunchy and malty. The white bread shown in the pic is part of another starter (bread with olive oil and thick, syrupy balsamic vinegar, bread served warm GBP 3). The haddock: a fresh fillet of haddock, superbly steamed in its cocoon of brittle, crumbly, caramelised batter. The flakes of fish simply slide and ooze off eachother as you gently push your knife down onto the fish through the opened batter. The chips are soft and, note carefully, skins-on: really good idea, adds to the flavour holds more of the soft texture of the potato (fries were available as an alternative). The tartar sauce is unashamedly bitter, with modest pieces of caper for that brief spike of sourness. Grown-up fish & chips. Afters (not pictured) was two scoops of mango sorbet decorated with a fruit compôte and a strawberry. The sorbet was dense, rich and semi-sweet - as it should be - with noticeable lumps of mango lurking within and a lingering fruit flavour to finish.
