Had a great birthday evening here, wonderful relaxed atmosphere, attentive and knowledgeable staff, great traditional food and service. Steak and kidney pudding was the best ever tasted, bearing in mind it was my 60th birthday so I have had a few! My fellow guests had the mushroom wellington which was ‘delicious’. Waiter was spot on, no rush, owner was welcoming and the whole experience cannot be rivalled in Hitchin. Will be back again and again.

We recently dined at this establishment based on glowing reviews and an intriguing interior. From the moment we entered the small parking area to the warm welcome by a helpful young man, our experience was delightful. The restaurant's decor was captivating, and we were promptly seated at a perfectly arranged table. Our waiter, a friendly and charming gentleman, efficiently took our drink orders, and the haddock fish cakes for starters were truly satisfying. The mains featured a flawlessly cooked 8oz Scottish steak, tailored to my medium preference. The intimate and well-thought-out atmosphere, coupled with the wonderfully friendly staff, made for a memorable evening. We look forward to returning soon and extend our compliments to the chefs for crafting truly spectacular food. Thank you for making our evening truly wonderful.

In my humble view it’s difficult to beat perfection. This is my experience with respect to this restaurant when visited on three occasion’s. The service was not rushed but attentive, informative and courteous. The food was excellent in preparation and taste in fact better than any restaurant my wife and I have attended in some time (not including oriental style cuisine). I cannot recommend the establishment more highly.

Had Sunday lunch here today, under 30 quid for 3 courses. Service was impeccable and the atmosphere was great. Can't fault my experience . Heard good things about here and its all true. Make this your next destination and you won't be disappointed. 10/10.

Fantastic food, great friendly atmosphere and lovely staff! Me my, partner and our friend came here for dinner. We started with homemade haddock fishcakes and mussels in white wine suace. The fishcakes were light, fluffy, and tasty (my friend Christine made me say tasty instead of sumptuous lol). The mussels were large and juicy, and the white wine sauce was beautiful. The mains were all amazing. Me and my partner shared beef Wellington and a rack of lamb. They were excellent, both dishes sauces the accompanying cognac and cream for BW and redwine sauce for lamb were brilliant 👏 Our friend had the Sea Bass which she said was lovely We were too full for desert, but we will return. The staff were all first class, friendly and only to happy to make your night a night to remember. THANKS TEAM 🥰

Came here for a family birthday, after looking online for vegan options I came with low expectations but I was pleasantly surprised! I was presented with a full vegan menu and much care was taken to ensure my meal was vegan, the mushroom and walnut main was particularly delicious! As someone following a vegan lifestyle I really appreciate traditional eateries like this one accommodating me, so thank you!

In all the years of living in this area I am sad that this was my first visit as it was superb! The service was second to none with our waitress being attentive but not over bearing, chatty and an all round delight. The food was beautiful, perfectly seasoned, tasty, well presented and plenty of it. I recommend the prawns to start and if you like beef wellington you will love this one! I can't wait to go back. C'est magnifique

Went for Sunday lunch for my Aunts 80th birthday 28/5. Absolutely superb restaurant. Very good food , drinks and exceptional service. Booked to go back next month

It was probably the worst dining experience we've ever had. The Owner, who was our waiter, was incredibly rude and patronising all through the meal, and refused to serve us deserts unless we ordered drinks. Unfortunately, one of our party is a recovering alcoholic so we were unable to, at which point he told us told pay the bill and get out, or he'd call the police. The food, to be honest, was amazingly average anyway, so we went to Lussmans for deserts, which never fails to please.

My wife and I arrived at 8 o’clock yesterday evening. We were greeted by Kevin ( the owner) his waiter and Frenchie Female waitress we both had a great meal Smoked Salmon/ Fish cake Lamb chops/ Sea Bass and both had ice cream & Sorbet Both really enjoyed all three courses

This is the second time we’ve eaten here this year and it’s superb. The Beef Wellington is utterly fantastic, every single mouthful is a mmmmm moment. The service is lovely and friendly, I just love it here.

Been trying to get booked in here for a few weeks. Glad we persevered, great food ,generous portions and for the quality the pricing is very reasonable. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful and it's always a great touch to be able to talk to the owner and be thanked for your custom. Will be back for birthdays and anniversaries and spread the word.

Our server David last night was absolutely incredible his Recommendation of the fish oysters and the preparation‘s we’re on point and the drinks he recommenced him came out promptly and we’re delicious will certainly be returning especially around the sunset since we did get there a little bit late and missed out on the sunset which I understand is incredible

We had our wedding in October and had booked a local Restuarant for our wedding breakfast. At the last minute we were let down by the original restaurant. I then spoke to Kevin and his partner and his team kindly agreed to help us urgently. The venue looked lovely, the staff nothing but kind, the food was excellent and I cannot thank this wonderful team enough, I will forever be grateful and have such lovely memories. They are kind, attentive, fun and everyone enjoyed the food. Thank you so much you wonderful wonderful people.

We have been here 2 or 3 times before as a couple. As we was celebrating my Mums 90th birthday, we thought this would be the perfect place. We was not disappointed. Fabulous service from the start.. from dropping off table decorations and balloons, accomodating the request of a specific drink to be available, to the fantastic quality of food and service. Kevin and his team were attentive and welcoming. Food was amazing too. Highly recommended.

Food here is always 10/10 been coming for the past 6 years nearly as my son and grandsons live here. Staff are also 10/10 as got a smile .

Ate here wiith my girlfriend on Sunday on a "3 courses for £25" deal. I had a mushroom starter that was really nicely flavoured and just right in quantity. The roast beef main course was absolutely perfectly cooked (for me at least, pink but not bloody) and obviously a very good cut as it was really tender. They also added a couple of pieces of crackling from the roast pork option that I requested. The roast potatoes, yorkshires and veg were also spot on - too often they're mushy but these were just right. They also provided an extra jug of their very tasty gravy on request. I've eaten dozens of Sunday lunches at pubs and restaurants, many much more expensive than this, and this was the best I've had. My girlfriend had the vegetarian Wellington although she's not vegetarian as she'd had a taste at a previous meal and wanted to try the whole dish. I tried it and I can see why - it was also delicious. We couldn't manage dessert so they boxed it up for us to eat the next day. The service was exemplary - unfortunately I had a migraine wiith aura as we arrived but they had no issue delaying the meal by half an hour while I sat waiting for the aura to disperse and the staff were very kind. Anything we asked for in terms of drinks or extras was supplied within 2 minutes and the owner and head waiter were extremely friendly, pleasant and seemed focused on making sure all their diners had a memorable experience - we certainly did and have already booked to return next month. With 3 courses for £25, 2 bottles of wine (good quality selection priced at £25-30) and a double G&T and a Baileys the bill was around £120 for two which for a meal of this quality with quite a lot of alcohol is very reasonable. Every table was taken the whole time we were there so I'd advise booking well in advance,

Can’t believe I’ve been here for so long and never been here. The owners are incredibly nice and 100% what I’d expect of restaurateurs. They’ve treated us to wines of our country and were incredibly hospitable.

Restaurant owners must hate people like me - I live only a short walk away from the Bridge Street Bistro, I've been in now and then over the years (I even remember when it was, if memory serves, a rather ramshackle outfit called Claude's Creperie) but I'm far likelier to drive to a nearby town to try somewhere new or save up my eating out for holiday splurges.But looking to support local businesses as much as possible in these tough times, it was back to an old haunt for a Thursday evening dinner.The decor, the service, the menu was pretty much as I remember it and if the food on offer has changed it's not something that smacks you in the face.One of our party of three plumped for the signature beef wellington, elsewhere fish and chicken dishes were the order of the day.The cooking was very traditional, the servings generous, the service smooth and the ambience relaxed and discreet.It was good the last time I ate there, it's good now - sometimes it's very comforting to be able to relax in a well-run place with a reliable offer, so long may it continue and I'll try not to leave it so long until the next time.

We were lucky enough to land a table here on a Saturday night, it was extremely busy but they bent over backwards to find us a table. We had the rack of lamb and beef wellington which were both sublime! Would highly recommend.

Really lovely place to eat and enjoy the atmosphere, the food was outstanding and the service was excellent. We were made very welcome the moment we entered, and we felt very relaxed. We were very lucky to have got a table at such a late time, usually the reservation needs to be made a week before, but we have it a go and i think because people aren't coming out to eat meant we got a table. Not cheap but very worth the price. Thanks for the lovely experience, we'll be back in the mid week Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday 3course set menu for £20 each next time. We live so close i think we will be in more often,,, Happy eating

Went for Sunday lunch and it was amazing- perfectly cooked sirloin of beef with all the trimmings. Definitely worth a visit.

Delicious birthday dinner for our daughter who is a seafood lover! The oysters were really fresh and tasty. All the fresh fish entrees (grouper and snapper) were delicious too as were the sides of herb risotto and green beans. Our server Ralphael was very attentive and friendly. We will definitely go back!

Tonight we visited this restaurant with 5friends for a pre birthday celebration. We were welcomed by a very attentive and friendly waiter, who showed us to our table and relieved us of our coats.The variety of food was quite extensive and when it arrived, it was all cooked to perfection. The ambiance, service, value for money and of course, the beautiful food, was perfect. This is our first visit to Bridge Street Bistro, but it certainly won't be the last.Thankyou to all concerned, for a wonderful evening.

Meal with three other couples a couple of weeks before Xmas. Cosy venue, mostly large groups, great atmosphere. Very busy, but both the food and service were excellent. I had their signature Beef Wellington which was delicious. Gluten Free veggie meal provided for my wife which she enjoyed too. We were treated to some live music that lasted through the meal, and afterwards some tables were cleared and we had a dance, the waitresses joined in. Haven't been somewhere with such a great vibe for a very long time. Thanks for the great night!

The set menu is excellent and really good value at £20 for three plentiful courses of food - fresh ingredients cooked with skill and care.This is the second time we’ve been and the service was a bit slower since it was full (and it gets full for good reason). You can see the staff work hard and they've always been polite and courteous to us. I’d recommend - we had a great night out and with such a good quality / value ratio, it’s definitely one of the best places to eat in the area.

I dined here with a big group of people. we had a really slow service and the place was way too crowded to even move around your seat. The restaurant was too hot which made you feel uncomfortable and i needed to go out to get fresh air every so often as a result of this. I had the lamb which wasn't the best I'd ever tasted and only came with 3 small potatoes and a shared plate of basic boiled vegetables between 8 people. On a positive note I did have a gin and tonic which was refreshing. Overall, if you want below average food and service with London prices in an underwhelming atmosphere then go for it...

Visited with a party of 20 for a birthday celebration. Key areas to highlight include; mostly decent food albeit overpriced with store bought items, limited drinks selections, somewhat attentive customer service though it felt as if we were at a dinner service for a wedding at times , and finally an arrogant and pretentious manager channeling his finest impression of Marco Pierre white (without the skill and food to back it up) who has failed to evolve his service with the modern day restaurant experience. Some aspects of the food were good, if a little basic and a tad underwhelming. The lamb was cooked ok however the fat wasn’t rendered well and as a result made parts of it slightly inedible. No complaints with the Beef wellington which was delicious, though individual side dishes tailored for each meal would improve the dish as opposed to the boiled veg we all had to share. The prawns were cooked well but overpriced giving the size of them. I’d also advise scouting a local bakery for bread (which they charged for) rather than store bought loafs from Sainsbury’s. Drinks wise, they only sold peroni beer which was slightly odd but luckily I am a fan of the beer. We arrived at 8pm and got our main dish at 10pm which indicated the kitchen was slightly overwhelmed. We had mostly positive interactions with waiters however some seemed to have a gripe with fulfilling simple requests ( water on the tables, serving food together, questions regarding the drinks menus). There was also a general lack of attentiveness as over a period of four hours I was asked only twice if I wanted another drink hence the similarities to a wedding service mentioned above. If you can’t deal with a large party then don’t accept them!The largest reason for the below average rating related to the general lack of empathy and professionalism from the manager. Charging 40 pounds to serve a cake (which they did not tell us about prior) that they did not make is truly ridiculous, with the managers pathetic excuse to justify this even worse. To add context, the extra 40 pounds didn’t include cutting the cake or serving individual plates which we did ourselves. When we queried the 40 pound charge for the cake, the manager was dismissive and rude to our party organiser and took off the 40 pounds from our bill and then told us to never come back. Furthermore, the lack of an itemised bill made it confusing for us to determine who needed to pay what overall amount as drinks prices weren’t separate and meant we had to work this out ourselves. The majority of us had no idea how much our drinks were. From a business perspective, if the restaurant was located in an area that actually had serious competition then they would not last long with their outdated accounting practices and lack of empathy with customers. Good luck on the next audit with that shoddy system.Advice to all future diners - don’t go if there is more than two of you, ask from the beginning for an itemised bill and most importantly avoid the manager at all costs!

We were at the bridge street bistro for a 30th birthday and what a disappointment. Firstly, we were all to pre order our food, however I’m vegan and was told to call for the option. When I did I was told that they couldn’t tell me what it was and essentially I’ll get what I’m given. This turned out to be a plate of melon for a starter (?!?!!?) and vegan cottage pie which admittedly was bang average. Then came the bill, the cake was baked by one of the party however we were still charged £40 for the pleasure of eating our own cake. When challenged the manager was incredibly rude, swore at one of the guests then finally agreed to take it off the bill but said we were never welcome there again. No danger of that happening. As a table of at least 20 having two courses and drinks - I feel the £40 fee was petty and unnecessary.

We visited on a Tuesday evening for my birthday. We were given a lovely table and made to feel very welcome. The choices on the set menu were amazing - I could have chosen any of about 4 different choices which is quite rare for me. We hadn’t visited for about three years but will make this more regular in future as we had a lovely evening.

This is nostalgia. My daughter and I split a haddock fishcake, which was flavourful and enough to get our appetites up. I had a Beef Wellington as a main - how often do you see that? I asked for medium rare, and it was a bit more medium (isn't that what meat thermometers are for?) But good flavours and with the sides of veg it was a rib-sticker, and just right for a wet autumnal evening. We split a bottle of pinot noir (liked the way the wine list was set out), passed on dessert. The place was full (on a Wednesday) by 8.30, all 'of a certain age'. The sort of place we all went to in the 5th arr in Paris in the 60s. Not Masterchef cuisine or presentation but we didn't need that. It's been doing this sort of food for decades, and I guess that is why their website isn't very functional - cos who cares?

Another excellent dinner at BSB: competent cooking, friendly service and relaxing ambiance: what's not to like? Whilst not fine dining, this might well be the best restaurant in Hitchin. The menu is fairly traditional with some seasonality. A limited wine list complements the menu.
