Out on a walk and decided to pay a visit to this cafe as always see this passing by in the car. A warm welcome greeted us . Decided on the small breakfast and Mediterranean TM2 eggs. 2 fab coffees . Food was spot on . Friendly staff . Great service . Will definitely visit again .

Was expecting alot from the good reviews but had to ask a couple of times for our first drinks and the beef was so overcooked and thickly cut we struggled to get through it, only time I've ever left my meat, staff didn't ask us how food was or how's things were when paying which was a shame, photo of Ghandi's flip flop style beef here.

I just had to get in touch after my stay at your establishment. Check in was great with Emma - she arranged my stay over the phone, so much so I treated her to a glass of wine (!). We were not told at the time of the booking that there would be a live band playing, I had travelled 200 miles, by the time I got to Rettendon Lodge, I was ready for some relaxation. We ate in the bar that was OK. At 11.30pm I had to telephone in to the lodge and beg them to turn the noise down, it was STILL blaring through their floorboards. If I had been advised that an event was taking place and it would be exceptionally loud I would have booked elsewhere. In the morning called in to the lodge at 8.45am to see if I could get a coffee/tea as the milk in our room was off. The answer was a firm grumpy NO, I could not believe it. So in the storm we drove down to the garage and purchased a coffee from the M&S outlet. When we returned to the lodge for breakfast, we were presented with the greasiest fry up I have ever seen and tasted. It was appalling. We left it and checked out.

*Copy of my Google Maps review* Freshly made in-house food including cakes. I had not tried any of their hot food but the cakes are great! I am especially happy that they have a good selection of vegan suitable and gluten free options including sandwiches and cakes. A tad pricy but worth it to support the small business and great quality. Outdoor seating with a picturesque riverside view of Paper Mill lock. Pictures attached of the view from near the tearooms. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Cakes Vegetarian & vegan offerings Large vegetarian selection with some nice vegan options too Dietary restrictions Vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options for sandwiches and cakes. Parking space Plenty of parking Parking options Paid parking lot Parking Parking behind the tearoom. Not exclusive to the tearoom as it is for entry to the lock. £5 entry fee (£2.50 from 2:30pm - 5pm when i visted)

We'd been to Danbury Lakes and found the closest pub to go have some lunch. So we were introduced to The Bell and wow I'm so pleased we were. Let by Daniel who's lovely and had a choice of seats as a walking club who had booked table were not walking sure to the heat. 32C We were both made welcome and seated with a fan. Complementary water at the bar was nice. The menu is quite extensive and the food we chose was well worth it. I had the Sausage Melt and my wife had a Cheese/Onion baguette. Both come with salad and chips, and they were very filling. Such a nice place to eat with great food, friendly staff who made us very welcome. Just to note this is a dog friendly pub, with facilities for the larger dogs like Greyhounds too. So to follow this up, we are looking to have a lunch with friends with our dogs, when the weather is less crazy.
