The Fox and Hounds in Chelmsford

Booked a Friday night dinner table. Lively atmosphere, lovely food and excellent service. Shout out to Jodie our waitress.

This was our second visit to this pub and we really enjoyed our evening. Menu was varied and food was very nice. Our waitress Jodie did an excellent job, even though she was under pressure at times. She kept a smile on her face and gave us first class service. We will definitely come back again.

Great food and generous portions. Great staff and ambience. The staff coped with 28 of us (car club) turning up and all lunches came out as close together as you could have wished for. (Coffee was slightly disappointing in flavour).

Top marks for a lovely family lunch. F&H catered for 15 of us and the food, service and surroundings were excellent.. would definitely return.

Came across this delightful pub restaurant quite by accident when looking for somewhere to meet friends at a half way point. The menu looked good but I had no expectations either way. Well what a surprise! A lovely quaint pub with a bright inviting interior and not too big. We went through to the dining area, which was quite intimate and decorated in a lovely heritage Green. It was clean bright and welcoming. Our waitress was lovely. The menu was varied with mouth watering dishes that made it difficult to choose one. I went for the Gambas a Pil Pil which was delicious with the most succulent prawns and just the right amount of heat. My friends all chose something different were equally complimentary. Our plates were cleaned. There was a fantastic choice of main courses. Once again I was torn between the hand made steak burger and the chicken or lamb skewers. I chose the burger! Absolutely delicious. My friends had the chicken skewers with a multitude of accompaniments which were also delicious. We were beaten the desserts but the choice was excellent. We just opted for ice cream which was locally made. Such good value and excellent quality. We will be back for sure.

My first time in the pub - lovely feel with friendly staff. We sat in the restaurant area to eat, waitress was really friendly and genuine. Food was really impressive, much better than what you expect from pub food. Starter of bread with baked garlic and olives was lovely and big enough to share. Fish and chips was great with proper home cooked chips, great beer selection and even a pub dog! Definitely will be back as all the other tables food looked great aswell.

We dined on a quiet night in the restaurant which seats 20 - I wouldn't want to be there when it's full, as it would be unbearably crowded. The food was good - better than good if truth be told. The starters (wholly unnecessary - see comments on mains) were excellent - my wife ate the avocado / prawn tower which she enjoyed and I had the Gambas Pil Pil - spicy tiger prawns - again very well cooked and presented - and both decent portions. The main - well my wife had the beef and ale pie which was cleverly done with the pastry hiding the dish in which the filling was contained. I had the toad-in-the-hole - partly because you don't get it on many restaurant menus and partly because our waitress told me it was good. It was magnificent - easily enough to feed two. There were three massive tasty bangers in a beautifully cooked batter. If I had to offer an idea it would be to make the batter tastier - some onions stripped and cooked with the sausages and beer in the batter for flavour. The fresh mash and carrottes were v good too - although someone should tell them to get over themselves and learn to spell carrot. On the whole a better than average pub meal - our recommendation would be to skip the starters though as the mains were massive (and I'm a big eater).

Can never fault food at this place but last night was exceptional ! The ribs were the best i’ve ever tasted, prawn starter was superb. This place takes some beating for quality/presentation of food at good prices. Well done The Fox & Hounds… and to Jodie the waitress, professional and friendly… all such lovely staff!! x

Friday 23rd February 2024 we held the wake for my late Mother-in-law at the Fox and Hounds , Ramsden Bellhouse. The evening prior we were given private access and as much time as we wanted to the room / area to be able to personalise and prepare, which removes much of the stress from the day itself. The Fox team also helped out and provided elements such as candles and displays to enhance the room. The day of the wake itself ,upon arrival family and friends were greeted by wonderful and very attentive staff. The grazing table not only tasted wonderful but looked amazing. Concerned that we totally over ordered on the food , it was to our relief that guests were provided boxes to take food home as to minimise waste. What is not typically an enjoyable day but the team at the Fox and Hounds really pulled out all the stops for the family to ensure the service and quality of food totally exceeded expectations.

Food was lovely ☺️, service was good we had a lovely waitress called Jodie . We wasn’t rushed so was able to enjoy our evening.

Great food and service by Jodie both quick and attentive nothing was too much trouble for her. We ordered 2 of the specials she recommended and we were not disappointed. Highly recommend.

My Husband and I met with friends for dinner. The bar area was welcoming and friendly. The restaurant was very intimate, and the tables spaced nicely so you don’t feel overlooked . The food was truly delicious, every course we had was perfect. Service from our waitress Jodie was first class and nothing was too much trouble. Would recommend without hesitation .

Visited yesterday for 90th Birthday Celebration for 25 people. Excellent food. Service was amazing, staff were friendly and efficient, nothing was too much trouble. Room looked lovely and tables arranged thoughtfully. Food was great, hot, tasty and served quickly. 25 happy people. A special mention to Sarah and Paula. Would give more than 5 stars if I could. Highly recommend for couples or parties.

Lovely food. Jodie is amazing and offered flawless service from star to finish, and really made our meal amazing. Highly recommend the fillet steak, and gambi prawns for a starter we divine.
