Trying to find a venue for a celebration of life event following a funeral is not easy, especially when you are not local. Having seen a number of venues in the area, once we happened upon The Ship and the kind owner, we knew we had found the perfect place. We had the place to ourselves (hired specifically). They provided a good buffet, but more importantly was the wonderful staff who treated you with such loveliness you felt you were a regular. At such a difficult and challenging time, the staff at this venue were beyond wonderful. My family and I thank all of you for making the occasion so special and for helping us so much. We appreciate your care and consideration

I was just browsing the reviews as was scouting for local garden centres in our area. The drama over the use of toilets is hilarious. Five stars for comedy

Lovely old pub with amazingly low prices which compare with what we had in 1990's around London. Great beers and even Mild which can rarely be seen anywhere in the south. Wine very limited , Red, White or Rose, spirits all by the brewery but fine under half the price of the south and a lovely atmosphere.

Attended with colleagues on a Friday morning for a quick breakfast. The food was a mix of very cold to luke warm. It was well below the standard I expected. I did complain, the guy was not particularly interested until I laboured the point that I come to eat hot food and the fact that it is cheap doesn’t detract from that. He then offered me a refund which I declined as I can’t be doing with the faff. It’s frustrating that younger staff don’t understand good customer service- the very basics of ‘the customer is always right’ in additional to the fact that customers don’t care if you’re busy- they just want food to be speedy and hot. Very disappointed indeed. Totally unnecessary of staff to not appreciate the need to give hot food to a paying customer.

Had a lovely afternoon with my friend. Wasn’t rushed out the door when finished. Food excellent. Only reason I gave a 4* for service was because when ordered main was asked if would like anything else and we said maybe after finished. No one came back to check. Also a young lady was a bit quick to ask if finished even though my friend was actually still nibbling at a few chips. I think that was just down to inexperience though. Saying that I would highly recommend and have actually been there on several occasions

Nice building. Ambushed by a rude man upon arrival who gave us keys and told us to be at breakfast by 8.30am (Sunday) as thats when they switch fryers off. Whole place stinks of fat and dogs. Door handle to room broken, wooden platform, mattress springs knackered, road noise, a squeeze to get in the shower, no juice at breakfast, but the breakfast is the best part. An ok British breakfast- no other option offered, no jams and butter is flora. The lady at breakfast is far nicer than the young man and the older man who ignores you and rolls his eyes as he walks. Giving two stars as it is cheap compared to other places, perhaps we got the worst room, but will not return to find out

We came into the restaurant at baytree on Saturday and we had a really nice meal. I had a brunch burger and my wife had the special cottage pie with fresh vegetables. Both were served very well and very hot lots of flavour. The drinks were good also all in all a very good experience. Will definitely be back. Keep up the good work

We have been coming here for over 30 years on our way on holidays from Norfolk. We heard it is closing at the end of the year so we came in for one last breakfast. As usual, the staff were polite and friendly, the service was quick and the food hot and delicious. Excellent value -a good plate full for £7.50. I have no idea why there are so many negative reviews on here; I have NEVER had a bad experience. It’s closure is very sad and the end of an era.
