Brilliant restaurant, loved the atmosphere and the staff were lovely, we went there for Valentine’s Day, the food was fabulous, we had the valentines special 10oz rib eye steak me and my gf loved it. Louise made it very special and the lovely staff, Charlene, Kacey, Jess. They were AMAZING and made it very special because of their great service. Thanks to the kitchen we had the best valentines, the chefs were brilliant, Neil one of the chefs was super!

This restaurant promising “great British home-cooked food,” The Kitchen presents an inviting façade, with warm lighting that suggests a cosy and welcoming dining experience. Unfortunately, that illusion is quickly shattered upon entry. Service From the moment we arrived, the service was impersonal and unwelcoming. The main waitress or manager (believed to be named Sharleen) gave the distinct impression that she did not want to be there. She failed to acknowledge us upon arrival, instead engaging in conversation with another customer at the till. While waiting is understandable, a simple greeting or reassurance that we would be attended to shortly would have been courteous. When she did finally acknowledge us, her disinterest was evident. Instead of walking us to our table, she simply pointed in its direction, handed my partner the menus, and sent us on our way without so much as a smile. While it’s understandable that a long week in hospitality can be exhausting, professionalism in customer service should not waver—especially when guests are paying for an experience. If one is unfit to work the front of house, they simply should not be positioned as the first point of contact. Thankfully, the mood lifted slightly when our server Anita took over. She was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, offering suggestions and making us feel welcome. However, even her excellent service could not compensate for what was to come. Starters I opted for the chicken liver pâté, described on the menu as being “spiked with brandy and peppercorns.” If there was any evidence of brandy or peppercorns, my palate failed to detect it. Instead, the pâté carried the distinct taste of something that had been stored for far too long. It was served with a chutney, a few leaves of lettuce, and what was labelled as sourdough “bread”—a term I would use very loosely. The slices were cut paper-thin, unpleasantly hard, and lacked any visible toasting. They were closer in texture to brittle crackers than to the robust, slightly chewy sourdough one would expect. My partner’s potato and leek soup was equally uninspiring—lacking both depth of flavour and any discernible presence of potato pieces worth mentioning. Mains For my main, I chose the Surf & Surf & Chips—a dish consisting of battered cod, fried scampi, chips, and mushy peas. A straightforward classic that should be difficult to ruin, yet somehow, The Kitchen managed it. The scampi was the first red flag. Its odour was so overpowering that it cut through the batter before the plate even reached me. While fish naturally carries a scent, it should not announce itself quite so aggressively unless one has just stumbled into the back room of a fishmonger’s on a hot afternoon. The cod itself was passable, nothing remarkable, but at least edible. Ironically, the mushy peas—often the least remarkable component of this dish—were the most enjoyable, offering a pleasant flavour that outshone the rest of the plate. My partner, however, was less fortunate. He opted for the home-baked mac and cheese with bacon. The bacon, which had been requested but omitted, eventually arrived after a brief exchange with Sharleen, who placed it on the table with a single word—“Bacon.” No apology, no explanation, just the word before walking off. A basic acknowledgment of the mistake or a simple “sorry about that” would have gone a long way, but none was offered. As for the dish itself? To quote my partner: “I could have had better mac and cheese from Tesco.” A damning verdict. Overall We had high hopes for The Kitchen, having anticipated visiting for some time. From the outside, it presents itself as a charming, inviting establishment. Inside, however, the atmosphere is lacklustre, the service—aside from Anita—is unenthusiastic, and the food is an overpriced, subpar imitation of a Wetherspoons meal. Unfortunately, unlike Wetherspoons, it lacks even the redeeming factor of a lively atmosphere. Would I return? Certainly not. Would I recommend it? Only if you’re looking for an expensive lesson in disappointment.

Visited last Sunday with my family was served by Victoria. We all ordered a roast which arrived promptly was piping hot (on a bitter cold day) and was absolutely delicious, I then had the bread and butter pudding. No one could fault the food or the service at all. Our only minor gripe was it felt a little chilly in the restaurant ended up putting my coat back on but this didn’t detract from a lovely meal

Came a few years ago and was incredibly disappointed. Pleased to see the same service, and food is still on offer! Bit disappointing to be honest. Food wasn't great for the price paid, bottled beer over priced but made to look worse being served in a small glass. Staff were relatively helpful but came across rude at points. The music, albeit was a great playlist, was too loud in parts of the restaurant.

The Kitchen at Springfield Outlet Shopping Centre I’ve visited The Kitchen a few times and have generally enjoyed the experience. The location in the Springfield Outlet Shopping Centre is convenient, with ample parking options nearby. Each time, I’ve been greeted warmly and seated promptly, and the service is consistently quick and efficient. The drinks stand out, both in quality and portion size. They’re definitely a highlight. The food, while good, is more on the simple side—think classic pub-style dishes. It’s enjoyable for what it is, especially considering the reasonable prices, though it doesn’t quite venture beyond the basics. The atmosphere is pleasant, adding to the overall appeal of dining here. In short, The Kitchen is a solid choice for casual dining with good service, tasty drinks, and a relaxed setting.

After shopping at Springfield we decided to have a spot of lunch at this establishment around 12.30. It was busy and quiet noisy so when we were seated we asked if the background music could be turned down. We waited for around twenty minutes then asked a staff member if we had to ordered at the bar. A curt waitress said “No someone will be with you soon” then walked off. Fifteen minutes later my wife went to the bar and asked for a server to take our order, at this time we were thinking about leaving. The server arrived and we asked for the music to be turned down again, she took our order and then within a few minutes our drinks arrived. The drinks order was wrong, when I stated this her attitude was “Well this is what I thought you said” perhaps the music was so loud you misunderstood what I said. Any way they changed the drinks and the food arrived, which was what we ordered. The food was palatable but the Hunters Chicken was tough and dry and hardly any bbq sauce. The only server that had a smile was a young girl who we gave a £5 tip. My advice is to reduce the background noise and to educate staff in customer etiquette.

I chose to have an afternoon tea with my daughter for her birthday and a bit of retail therapy, too. We got very hungry and arrived early, we knew they may not be able to cater for us but told if we waited 20 minutes it would be ready, we waited and waited, after 45 minutes I asked if we could at least have a tea, the lady seating people got the staff to sort it. We then waited another 20 minutes while other people received theirs before we did. And then the afternoon wasn't worth waiting for. We love scones with clotted cream, but it was a butter cream, really sweet and not very nice. Sadly I won't be visiting for afternoon tea again, the main menu food looked nice. We had one very helpful member of staff named Charlotte who was lovely and got our tea, noticed our food hadn't come and sorted us out and made sure we were happy

Saturday afternoon - 3.30pm ish - waited at least 20 minutes before anyone took our order. 15 minutes later the food turned up - missing items on order. Drinks were sat on bar - had to ask for them - over 30 minutes before getting a drink. It was quite busy with people leaving as we came in - but anyone who came in after us had a similar experience. Mentioned missing items to 2 members of staff. Still nothing. Asked another member of staff - then there was confusion and as we had finished eating they thought we didn't want extra item - we did and had made it clear. Asked again item turned up almost immediately. Wasn't particularly busy so no real excuse for shambolic service. Missing item was eventually voided from bill - but had to explain whole situation to yet another member of staff. This was our first time using this place... doubt we'd be back after today's experience.

Atmosphere and environment were lovely at first look, we were greeted and seated a few minutes after arrival . Our meals were lack luster but not overtly bad. The service as a whole however was piss poor, we were unsure whether we were being waited on or ordering ourselves at the bar. We eventually were served, our starters arriving on time but before our drinks (something we originally overlooked, as this can happen sometimes) but we were never reassured about anything by any member of staff. Coming to the end of our meal, we had to point a member of staff that another couple that had been seated for 20 minutes and had not been served. We then had to ask 3 different members of staff for our bill before it was finally brought over half an hour later. Lots of potential to be a great bar/restaurant

My husband and I visited here yesterday for a lunch after shopping in Springfields. We are both Vegans and so choose this as it advertises that they cater for both vegan and vegetarian diets. We both ordered the pie with chips and garden peas, I did prefer mash potatoes but was advised by the server that this wasn't vegan. The food was nice and would definitely have it again. My only 'but' is that the place has lots of cobwebs on the ceiling, picture frames, light shades etc. Just a quick dust would improve the experience no end. 🕸🕷😉

Very disappointing. We ordered a lunch. I opted for steak pie with mash and peas. The pie was atrocious and I did send the meal back. upon receiving my meal I opened the top of my pie to find that it clearly wasnt fresh. The gravy was baked onto the inside of the pie and the meat showed signs of being quite old. It was abysmal . I was offered a replacement but this completely put me off eating. The other three meals we ordered were burgers, the bread rolls used were stale and the food quality over all was very low.

I am not sure if they were short of staff on the day that we went, or we arrived at a bad time, however after being sat down, we were left for quite a while (almost to the point where we were about to leave). However once our order was taken, the drinks, and the food did arrive reasonably quickly after that. The portions are quite a good size, although the quality of the food is so so. I mentioned to the manager that between the outer and inner doors were lots of dried leaves as it had only just opened I said I was surprised to see it so mucky. She just said it had been cleaned that morning Look at pics make your own mind up I could only gain access in my wheelchair to less than half the tables because of steps onto the raised level looking outside which was a better viewing advantage. We come back here for lunch, following the last time having a great experience. However after coming back again today, I've left feeling gutted we chose to come back. We got seated and had to wait 30 minutes before even being asked if we'd like drinks (baring in mind the place was not even busy many empty tables) once we had our drink order and food order taken it wasn't until 1 hour and 10 minutes later our food arrived with a very rude waiter ( out of the two males on shift, it was the male without glasses who served us) said ham sandwich and cheese sandwich, I said "oh yes, Thank You" and he replied in such a rude manner " well which then?" And placed them on the table in such a way, walked off without asking if we'd like any other condiments like most normal places. Our order was missing items, so waited 10 minutes before being told yeah it'll have to be a new order and you'll have to wait 15minutes? Baring in mind it's taken us a whole 2 hours from sitting to getting the food to get 2 sandwiches?. The whole experience was very different to the other times. Seeing the latest reviews, it's not as pleasant And feel absolutely disappointed and wasted our time. Don't recommend at all, unless improves. especially a place being so empty making excessive waiting times. Such a shame.

They are very lucky most of the clientele are ancient and have a lifetime of being use to the stereotypical tasteless British food that we are renowned for across the world. Most of us under 60 would avoid and the clientele on display shows this largely the case. Staff are fine they weren’t rude and our service was reasonably quick. Just the food is so poor. I went for the Black & Blue burger which was a Cajun spiced, handmade burger topped with Stilton cheese, red onion, tomato and mixed salad leaves served with chips. My friend went for the Mexican which was Handmade burger with house chilli and sour cream with red onion, tomato and mixed salad leaves. Both burgers were served fresh and arrived promptly within five minutes of ordering. They were exceptionally delicious, bursting with an array of flavors. The portion sizes were generous and satisfying. The staff demonstrated remarkable friendliness and expertise, showcasing exceptional customer service skills. We opted to dine outdoors, and the alfresco areas were meticulously maintained by attentive staff, ensuring a pristine environment throughout our meal. A new favourite for me I will be sure to return again soon.

Not a bad place, just run of the mill pub grub. Service was a little slow, but they were busy.

Popped in for bite to eat with my daughter. We sat inside looking out the window. There was a dirty fork been left with food on the windowsill and there was a faint smell of what olny can be described as a pet shop😷 which was off putting. I ordered the Kitchen ploughman’s. When It came the pate had a huge lump of lard which had been layered on the top and it was a pooling brown colour not the fresh brown/ reddish colour it should be it and the pickles had started to ferment and had fermented green spores on them which was also off putting . The cola is cheap cola not your branded stuff which when I’m paying £3.20 for a glass I’d like the real thing. I mentioned this to the lady manager who was happy I gave feedback and happy to discounted the bill as I said I’m happy to pay for what I did eat which was bread, cheese, celery and grapes. Overall the Kitchen in my opinion could do with looking at their menu to revamp it a little maybe add some greenery to the food, deep clean the whole place as I don’t think I’d go back .

Arrived at 17:05 to be told they were closed as nobody had been in for 40 minutes. The website says open until 21:00. What a way to run a business. We would have had 3 courses each plus drinks.

Walked in to the restaurant to be told that we had to wait 30 mins which was wasn’t bad. So my family and I went away and came back again at the time they said they would have a table ready. Had to wait 10 mins before drinks were ordered, once we did order food as well. After a further 10 mins we still hadn’t received our drinks. After 30 mins we were told they didn’t have the drinks we ordered so we ordered again. All in all after 50 mins we still didn’t receive our drinks nor food, we then decided as a collective that it would be in our best interest to leave. We went and told a staff member that we wouldn’t be eating and as we walked past the bar we saw our drinks sitting on the side of the bar. However there was no atmosphere whatsoever and no music, not that was a problem just would have been nice to have some light music playing in the background so you don’t hear people chewing their food out loud. I would totally understand if we were told at the beginning that they were short staffed, however there seemed to be a reasonable amount of staff members manning the floor which my family thought that it was reasonable. Won’t be returning back!

Didn't actually get to eat or drink here but extremely annoying early closing times caused frustration. Being right next door to a hotel and the only pub / restaurant within walking distance during our 3 night stay (Mon - Wednesday nights) you would have thought it would be open in the evenings but this is sadly not the case. After a long day and finishing work at 6pm all we wanted was to eat and drink and we were forced to get a taxi into town as this place was shut up at 6.20pm on all nights. They've just missed out on £500 of income due to silly closing times The main reason we booked this hotel whilst working in the area was because it had a pup next door!! Hope some find this useful.

For its location next to a busy shopping mall we should of guessed by how quiet it was for a Saturday evening that it wasn't going to be anything special. The welcome and staff was good. The food however was nothing to write home about. Our lasagne was very dry, very much felt like it was out of the freezer and re-heated, it certainly wasn't fresh. The chips also are bland are bought in. To be fair we did receive 20% discount but we won't be returning.

One of the half dozen or so local eateries that get away with mediocre food because there is little competition. Okay for the kids, and always bustling because of its location, but generally unimpressive all round.

The staff are friendly - that is about the extent of what is good about this restaurant. The pasta is overcooked and mushy, and despite saying it is out u see the grill before serving, it was not. The fish and chips were bland, the “gelato” is not gelato at all and uses the cheapest, processed flavours possible - even the drinks weren’t nice (I had the “Sicilian lemon and elderflower lemonade”: no elderflower taste whatsoever and it was otherwise just bitter and undrinkable). Convinced that this restaurant is busy only because it is next to the outlet centre…that is the only reason we ended up there. I’d 100% avoid it if possible.

Attended with colleagues on a Friday morning for a quick breakfast. The food was a mix of very cold to luke warm. It was well below the standard I expected. I did complain, the guy was not particularly interested until I laboured the point that I come to eat hot food and the fact that it is cheap doesn’t detract from that. He then offered me a refund which I declined as I can’t be doing with the faff. It’s frustrating that younger staff don’t understand good customer service- the very basics of ‘the customer is always right’ in additional to the fact that customers don’t care if you’re busy- they just want food to be speedy and hot. Very disappointed indeed. Totally unnecessary of staff to not appreciate the need to give hot food to a paying customer.

Lovely old pub with amazingly low prices which compare with what we had in 1990's around London. Great beers and even Mild which can rarely be seen anywhere in the south. Wine very limited , Red, White or Rose, spirits all by the brewery but fine under half the price of the south and a lovely atmosphere.

Food great, ambience great. Only let down my lack of fresh coffee to finish. Only coffee available was basic instant coffee from a tin or jar.

I’ve been to this Costa quite a few times and I always find the staff very unfriendly and rude.. I love a Costa but end up going somewhere else due to the attitude of staff towards customers..it would helpful if their attitude towards customers could improve..
