The best restaurants serving Brasserie food in East of England

I had offered my oldest friend, whom I've known for 67 of my 71 years, three choices for an evening meal. Posh nosh, curry or fish and chips. As it turned out, his choice was inspired. I've never seen such an enormous fish and chip restaurant which, despite its size, feels quite intimate as the place is divided into four smaller rooms on two floors, with the kitchen area set on a mezzanine right in the middle. The menu is as extensive as I have seen in a restaurant (also a takeaway) of this type. We decided to share a whitebait starter, which was excellent. Served with tartare sauce, the fish was fresh as fresh can be with a crispy batter. For mains, my friend opted for sea bass, while I had a skate wing. Served with a nice bowl of dressed salad and very nice chips, you can see why Fish Dish was going to be fully booked on the following Bank Holiday weekend. There's nothing pretentious about what they do. It's just good, honest, traditional British fish and chips (they also do burgers) done exceptionally well. Thumbs up all round, especially as it was just a short walk from my home.

As always great service. Food is fresh and tasty. The pitta bread is hot and crispy. I always have the smaller portion of lamb Shish so I can have room for some delicious starters Very good price

Disgusting. No customers in today and I now know why. Customer service non existent. Dirty tables. Avoid like the plague. Walk a bit further and go to Flags best beach cafe in Clacton

In the afternoon, stopped here for a toilet break & cuppa, would go back to try their yummy menu. the food looked delish :)

Everything was perfect, very good staff and the food was nice and delicious. I'm very happy, with this kiss restaurant.

Beautiful restaurant, open, classy, veranda and serves alcohol, what more can you ask for, apart from me being awkward asking for a takeaway lol, but nothing was too much trouble. I arrived just as they were closing and they still cooked fresh food for me. The large fish, chips and fruity curry were really tasty, it wasn't dripping with oil, and whatever oil the food is cooked in it tastes nice. Lovely people, very polite and welcoming. If you're on your hols and you want more than a back street chippy this is it. Defo 5/5 stars all round.

Always Tasty food from this place, I've ordered many times kebabs, wraps, burgers 10/10 everytime cooked to perfection, good portions. I highly recommend to all

Delicious food and well worth the walk.

This was our first time trying various items on the menu (ribs, wings, chicken club, etc). It was a late afternoon, on a Saturday, and we didn’t order in advance (our fault), so we had to wait about an hour for our order. It was definitely worth the wait. It was delicious!!! Don’t let the exterior of the building fool you: it was a clean, well organized establishment.

Stopped here recently for a full English breakfast, seating was outside only due to current restrictions. The breakfast was very good and the coffee was lovely. Customer toilet available inside. Would recommend to others, all very clean and friendly staff.

Food is ok, only cash though! You know why! But what a disgraceful and disrespectful . Guy guy in till , i have no idea what je thinks of himself, so much bullying attitude, rubbish behaviour. Someone should tell him when you r trying to do everything that means you are Not doing right. Probably owner, that’s the only conclusion i guess. Absolutely rubbish attitude.

We were a party of 4 ladies visiting for the first time. The food was ok but by 8:45pm the staff were very rude by lingering around and making it obvious they wanted us to leave so they could close early ruining our evening, the website it states they close at 10pm. We won’t be returning !!

Clean!! Although a very good attempt was made to create an atmosphere, sadly, very few people were there. My appetiser of whitebait was delicious though. I will definitely come again but not on my own.
