Disgusting. No customers in today and I now know why. Customer service non existent. Dirty tables. Avoid like the plague. Walk a bit further and go to Flags best beach cafe in Clacton

Great staff and good prices. A real pleasure to enjoy a less crowded beach area and have such a friendly cafe/bar close by. Dr Ska's DJ set on Sunday afternoon was a big bonus. We only had time for a short break, but excellent service and brilliant music really made it special.

Been going to Makai for summer lunches for a few years now. Always friendly staff, good with allergy orders/changes for vegetarians. Unique vibes. Lots of spaced out outdoor seating at the moment and kiosk only ordering.

One of the little gems in Clacton, Near Holland on sea, Great food and good sizes well worth the money, Great staff very helpful that go out off the way to help, the do not serve Beer, but this is great as you have a great time and every ones happy, I love their Burgers, Real good USA style:) and for a price that is not out of this world, I must say sometime it takes a little while to cook but its due to the fact many people come back time after time as they they like the taste I think, And the old style service, but some times after a long walk from Clacton its just nice to have a Cup of tea, they do this as well. They have a sweet little Dog there too , Great with Kids my Kids love to take Photos with the Dog I do not know if the Cafe reads reviews But if You do thank you so much, As My family and I love coming to see you and send some time on the Beach, We will see in June.

Πολυ ησυχο , ομορφο μαγαζι ,πολυ ωραια διακοσμηση , με πολυ ανετες ξαπλωστρες μαξιλαρες , υπεροχη παραλια , με προσωπικο παντα χαμογελαστο , εξυπηρετικοτατο και πολυ ευγενικο....πολυ καλη ποιοτητα φαγητου και ποτου,,,ησυχια , καθολου δηθεν , αισθανεσαι πραγματικα ομορφα ...Το προτεινω ανεπιφυλακτα !!!

I stopped here one morning while walking my dog and the staff made myself and lady feel like royalty. I enjoyed a coffee and a friendly chat with a guy called Kevin while lady enjoyed the attention of the other staff. I’ll definitely be going back again as I was impressed with the cleanliness and friendliness of them.

Perfect place to sit for a drink and enjoy the summer sun. The fish and chips are amazing and the curry sauce is the best I’ve tasted.

Been going here over a year and every visit is great, last Sunday was Dr Ska and we Had a brilliant time. Fair prices and very friendly staff. Recommend the Makai bar highly.

Lovely little bar on the beach. Just had drinks, local bottled beer which was very good and reasonably priced. Didn’t try the food which looks like bog standard burgers, chips etc.

Excellent freshly prepared food and drink Friendly service right next to the beach, plus live music at various times during the summer months They also host private parties

We love this place. It’s got a great feel, run by lovely people and always serves kooky little batch ciders which are lovely. It’s just fabulous and the food also looks good. Long may it reign! We love you Team Makai

We're just back from our annual bank holiday family weekend break in Clacton and once again we visited Makai. This was during the regular bank holiday fireworks display on the pier and we knew that the view from Makai would be excellent. There was a private birthday party in full swing during our visit, however we received a warm welcome and there was more than adequate space for our party of four adults, three children and a baby. There was music during our visit, a good mix of ska and more current mainstream music - all this contributed to a lively, fun atmosphere. We ordered from the menu, the food was hot, freshly prepared and tasty. There was a good selection of reasonably priced drinks. I said last time that Makai is a gem of a place in Clacton - happily our family opinion hasn't changed. We'll be back next time 🙂

Was given the tiniest amount of cream which was supposed to be for two people , after asking if it would be possible to have a little more as it didn’t even cover one scone the woman preparing the food came out and abruptly said that’s what you get with the cream tea and stormed back into the kitchen . Rude ignorant woman, will not be returning

We asked if the fish used to make the fish and chips was fresh before we ordered and were strongly assured that they use fresh fish.

I have been visiting this cafe for many years. I have been impressed with the hygienic way the cafe has its food preparation area from the main seeting area. It's staff are mainly family run. It's always been friendly and service is very good. It has an end suite bar for alcohol beverages. Plus plenty of seeting areas outside too. The food is always prepared freshly, it does some cooked foods and sandwiches etc. Plus the normal ice creams and soft drinks you would expect.The decor has been well thought out, creating a holiday vocation atmosphere. You will not be disappointed in taking a break whilst at Clacton beach. It's certainly worth a visit.

We come to Clacton once a year for a week and we have something from this cafe everyday, whether it’s teas and coffees, a few beers in the late afternoon or a lunch.

We visited three times for lunch/drinks over the just ended bank holiday weekend. We were a party of six comprising four adults, one child and one baby. The location is great, the food is excellent and is served by a friendly, efficient team. Makai gave us some of the best memories of our weekend break, we can't recommend it enough.

An amazing place to visit, food was delicious, amazing service and lovely staff. My family have come up from Cornwall and will be most definitely be visiting again and again. And disability accessable which is a bonus.

Just arrived at Clacton after 2hrs in car to grab a drink, in queue after my mate. I'm disabled & black. Waiting for a drink & deseperate to wee. My mate queued for WC & me for drinks. Queue was 6 people long of other white people. I got asked to leave this bar by a blonde lady who shouted at me in my face, and said my money wasnt needed. I wasn't allowed to use the WC OR get a drink. Absolutely rude and aggressive!

Excellent little cafe/bar right on the beach and close to the pier. Will be going there again whenever we are in the area.

Friendly welcoming staff and excellent service. Right beside the beach and not far from the Pier, this is an excellent place to stop for refreshments. It's so nice sitting outside you won't want to leave. Seems to attract friendly customers which is a good sign. Another bonus is that unlike some cafes it stays open till quite late in the season - mid Nov I think.

We were walking along from Clacton to Holland on Sea and walked passed this place, it is on the seafront, but as we walked by we looked at the people's plates of food,as you do, and it looked good.....and the smell was nice too...... and the people looked like they were enjoying the grub too, so we carried on with our stroll, and on the return journey decided to have our dinner here, good old fish n chips, you can sit outside or inside, but on this day, it was nice to take a cooler option out of the sunshine, this was sunday the 9th july,2017, a boiling hot hot day in Clacton so happy to sit inside just for a break from the sun, ( i know we don't get enough sun and then when we do, we need a break from it, no pleasing some folk) ha ha.....

the girls work really hard here and there manners are excellent they welcome families and make sure everything is clean and tidy for them, we will be revisiting in September, so looking forward to enjoying a dink and a meal with you all keep up the good work

A lovely place to relax and watch the world go by. Tasty food and delicious coffee. Such a great little place which we literally stumbled across while out for a stroll. And so glad we did. Pleasant staff, lovely and clean eating areas. Can't fault it. We will be back.

Lovely staff and good food. great atmosphere. You can sit and relax while you wait for you meal to be cooked fresh from start to finish. Or if you just want a hot or cold drink that is ok, It is great just to sit and watch the sea.

Really pleased to see that this cafe/bar is successful as first visited two years ago when the owner had just started the business, last year badly affected by the sea defences and the closure of the beach.

A absolute gem of a find on east side beach. Beautifully and tastefully renovated and extended, licenced Hawaiian themed cafe and bar . Plenty of seating inside and out, with parasols for shade if required food, drinks and icecreams served all day to eat in or take away. Great friendly staff, quick service spotlessly clean and great food. Excellent big breakfast! Well worth the walk along from the pier.

Very pleasant café and Bar to visit the staff are very friendly and very obliging. We had a cream tea. I used the facilities and they were spotless which I think is a really good sign.

Popped into Makai for a quick drink. Great location, reasonably priced drinks with a good choice and the 2 gents working there were very friendly.

if you're looking for something abit different that isn't just a typical beach cafe then this is your place. the tiki bar is amazing with the cafe end making you feel you're somewhere abit more tropical. food is lovely and freshly cooked, wide range of food and drinks. perfect place to sit, relax and let the world pass you by. we have also hired this place out for a birthday, engagement and hen do and each time had an amazing time.

Great, friendly service. Decent cuppa and breakfast is freshly cooked to order. Clean and tidy. A perfect stop for a cuppa or food on a beautiful beach.

Love this place... Three generations of a local family provide a friendly atmosphere. The snacks are good value but the best deal is their cream teas for £2-75.? Had them on two visits..They cook a good value breakfast which again we have tried.... We will be Back!
