Superb little find during our visit to Pontypool. Wonderful attentive service, everyone so, so friendly and a real quality Sunday roast. Beautiful soup! And brilliant value for the three courses plus beer and wine. Loved it.

Went to celebrate a birthday. Food was lush, buffet was hot and fresh. Staff were friendly. Definitely worth the visit.

Very enjoyable dining, and an interesting and inventive menu. Carl Gough has now closed his restaurant, though he is bound to rise from the ashes and find success elsewhere. I have been running restaurants and hotels for 30 years now, and I have one rule that is set in stone: Never wait for for the council inspector to visit you. Invite him (or her) before you open, and put their recommendations in place. Then you will avoid the fate of the Muddy Toad. Good luck for the future, Mr. Gough. I very much hope that we'll be hearing from you again.

Stopped for food on a grey day in the Brecon Beacons.

Great little find while we were up Pontypool doing a bit of MTB riding. Friendly welcome, great atmosphere, food delicious. Reasonably priced.

Amazing to have the choice of the whole menu. I had cheeseburger gnocchi. Really tasty and lots of it. Would be nice to have a few more dishes where veggies were the focus but I very much enjoyed it and would go back. Everyone else enjoyed it too and most were meat eaters so that’s definitely a good sign.

Had food poisoning the next day unfortunately. The curries were slightly below average - the Lamb Jalfrezi wasn't spicy so the sweetness came out a bit too much. The naan and paratha was good. The atmosphere and the serving staff were very nice :)

My friend and I had lunch on Wednesday and it was delicious. Steak and ale pie was the best I have ever had. Service was amazing.

We were really looking forward to a fish and chip dinner. Two mouthfuls and it went in the bin. Greasy and soggy chips, dry fish (even the dog didn't want it). Food seemed like it had been left over since lunch time. Absolutely gross.
