We are regulars at this amazing little gem right beside the canal. The food is lovely and their toastie’s are amazing … well worth a visit.

Can't fault the service or management! Our scout group turned up to canoe on the canal on a wet Sunday. The gentleman cooked us all lovely hotdogs & kept the leaders topped up with hot coffee! Couldn't have been more friendly or accommodating! Thankyou!

I arrived on a wet dismissal Sunday afternoon, all.beit around.3.45 pm.to see if the cafe was still going as having heard so many stories that the cafe was going to be shut down and all boat mooring stopped as the whole area was going to be revamped by the water ways board and turned into some sort of leisure centre. I sincerely hope NOT as the boat cafe is the talk of not just the boaters who use the canal but many visits from far and wide .I myself have been there many times and have always had good food and no problem at all.. Hope to see you all in the very near future.

Great food, a proper fried breakfast. My only grumble was that it is a bit cramped inside. Great for sunny days (as it was when the three of us visited) we ate at a picnic bench just outside. The outdoor seating in the sun made the trip worthwhile.

I love this little caff. In a world of that's full of bland shops, boring restaurants and resentful service - this place is real and alive and full of character. Great breakfasts, good cakes and always super-friendly. I've never come in here and not had a chat with the team behind the counter, or with the others being served. Honestly, going for a walk along the canal and then a cup of tea, eggs on toast, maybe a scone - simple pleasures really - but can't beat it - and sadly, you can't find this sort of place elsewhere anymore.

This is one of my favourite places to go after a walk with my dog. Lovely food great coffee and always very welcoming. Prices are very reasonable. It’s a little unique gem.

Heard about this place whilst visiting nearby County hospital and decided to check it out. We had a really warm welcome despite the horrible weather. Cups of tea, toasted travels & toasted cheese and onion sandwich were excellent. Will be going back but in a nice day!

The overall price was cheap but you do pay for what you get. This is not my cup of tea, tin tomatoes swimming with the beans on the plate overall not good, it may have just been an off day? Dog friendly and a nice spot to be early in the morning.

It seems like this would be a lovely place to stop for a well deserved break and a bite to eat, but looks can be deceiving. On numerous trips along the canal we have stopped here only to be told they are not serving food. Now this you would think is a one time thing but that's not the case. On different days at different times we have been met with the not serving food reply from the can't be bothered staff. To not be serving food at 12:00 on a Saturday I think is poor not only was we met with this but also they are only serving cold drinks. 0/10 complete fail. Why open if you are not offering the service you would expect from a "cafe"

Strange location tucked away by the side of the Brecon canal (with limited parking) but a nice spot to sit outside on warmer days. Good selection of snacks and drinks. Fine for a cup of tea and a sandwich but travellers from afar might be disappointed. Dog-friendly.

It's basic. Nothing fancy. Just good honest food at sensible prices. I loved my huge breakfast roll, egg and bacon and sausage, for next to nothing. Delicious milky coffee. Friendly. Very pleasant sat out in the sun watching a canal boat trying to turn around in the basin. Having cycled up from Newport, along the canal, it was a nice place to find and recuperate.

We left home early at 9;00am to go for a ride and after looking on TripAdvisor saw the Boat Tea Room. We found it alright after studying the directions decided to give it a try. What a delightful secret hidden away in Pontymoile, seating outside was plentiful which was ideal due to the hot morning. Our welcome was lovely and friendly and my breakfast was excellent value, my wife only had brown breaded toast but looked great. We absolutely loved it and will be back soon definitely.

At last i got to take Mam to one of my favorite eating places set in lovely surroundings at the Basin in Pontymoil , just off Fountain road .. situated next to the much photographed and painted Roundhouse at bridge 52 ..Weather was nippy but the sun was shining and no sight of rain .. Yee haargh to that .. I have visited this little Cafe many times in the past and have to admit that the food is second to none , James's home made soups are a Joy to palate ... always tasty and hot and a different soup every day .. accompanied by a wedge of fresh bread or toast ... Breakfasts are cooked fresh to order and the Sandwiches are delicious ... homemade cakes are available for your sweet tooth along with fresh made tea and coffee .. service is very friendly and outside seating around the area is available ... Today we had Beef stew and chunky bread .. spot on it was .. nice walk up the Canal bank and the a bit of retail therapy to end the afternoon .. "A little Jewel on the Canal " can't wait for the next visit .

Although not specifically noted on the menu, they provided a sumptuous meat-free breakfast on request at a decent price. Crusty bread toast, beans, mushrooms, hash browns, tomato, fried egg and omelette. If you're vegan, you can just request they leave the eggs and butter out. It's not often either of us get full enough to leave toast but we had to leave the final bit. Lovely setting on a static narrowboat with walks along the towpath to work off the calories. They are dog-friendly and have doggie ice-creams!

This little place has long been on my bucket list to visit and I was not disappointed. The homemade soup and toast was divine and the lady owner was kindness itself. Nothing was too much trouble and the place had a warm, homely feel.

Superb little find during our visit to Pontypool. Wonderful attentive service, everyone so, so friendly and a real quality Sunday roast. Beautiful soup! And brilliant value for the three courses plus beer and wine. Loved it.
