Fantastic place, the food was gorgeous. This is the best place I have been to for a while. Excellent friendly service, very reasonably priced, lovely food, big portions. The desserts were to die for! Honestly I can’t wait to come back south wales to visit here again, it was such a marvellous place! Thank you for an astounding lunch.

I booked the Whistle for my husband's 50th and my cousins 16th joint birthday celebrations. Right from the word go the customer service was outstanding. The communication in setting up this evening and arranging the meal plan for almost 30 guests was impeccable, the owners were extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming. On the night, again the service was excellent and extremely well organised, every meal came out one after another and all 27 of us ate at the same time. The meals were the best I've had in a very long time, hot, well presented and tasted amazing. From the start of the evening to the very end the staff worked extremely hard to ensure our evening was a massive success. I cannot thank you all for having us and we will definitely be back for all future events.

Such a lovely friendly place.. the staff were amazing and so friendly. 4 adults, 1 child and doggo booked in for Sunday lunch after taking a stroll around the trails near the whistle inn. Such a lovely and welcoming place! We had our two kids and two dogs with us and we couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome. We had starters which were lovely and a stunning Sunday lunch, and even though they had said they had run out of the cauliflower cheese the chef went out of their way to make us some - and it was SO good! Lovely, welcoming inn, nice wines and beer and all in all a lovely afternoon. We’ll be back next time we are in Wales!

Called in after a walk with a walking group, I just had a cup of coffee as they didn't have any vegan cake. Oat milk sachets which I have never seen before, provided by the coffee machine. They also didn't have gluten free cake which a member of our group asked for but they did say if we call in advance they will get gluten free from the freezer. Very clean and tidy bar, very clean toilets. Clean and tidy outdoor tables, water provided for dogs. Very polite, friendly staff who make you feel welcomed despite some rude customers. Would definitely visit this pub again if nearby

Fairly flat ground nice view's I would go back more prepared looks like a steam train goes right up to campsite and you can see they are in middle of building shower block and other bits only £10 a night so can't grumble

After a long wet day we were so pleased to find a place to rest and get some grub on a Monday evening. Callum was a super host, telling us a lot about the mining history of area, about the long history of the pub itself, and about the wee train that comes up as far as the Whistle Inn itself several times a week. Definitely recommend supporting this local pub.

First time at this friendly pub after a walk round the lakes. The delightful Ruby was chatty and attentive. Because I was alone, this felt kind and considerate. She also handled a tricky situation with some other customers with diplomacy, and apologised to me several times, which, although unnecessary, demonstrated excellent customer care. The food was lovely, (compliments to the chef) and reasonable priced. The pub is very dog friendly and I will definitely return, probably many times. They are open every day, and that's rare round here. Top marks for Ruby and the Whistle Inn!

Weve wanted to go and try the food out here for ages. Yesterday finally we've got around to it. Was served a COLD chicken (called on menu whistle chicken as the name of the pub so thought it will be amazing...) with fresh chips and a nice salad (wish I'd ordered a salad and onion rings only). I mean you go out to eat a FRESH MEAL, to treat yourself and have a break from home cooking for at least one meal but got served obviously some leftover or premade meal from fridge... Never ever will I return. What a waste of money. I wish I'd have cooked at home...

Jens (weekend manager, I think) were top trumps. Pre booked a hard standing pitch. Spaces are small. It was very wet. Anyone on the grass would get stuck. There's water, elsan and the toilets are apparently 24hr. There clean, mens thrown is a bit loose.... Was a fire when we arrived. Bars well stocked for choice. Cocktails for the ladies which looked good (2 for £10). Food was very hot and tasty. Good choice for my vegi wife. Staff very attentative . Every last one of them checked up on us and no, we're not old people! Prices were what I would call quite reasonable. Big beer garden, sun was out, and so were everyone else. Nice to see a remote place so busy. As on the pubs description, plenty around, the big Pit is a must...and free!!!!!!!

We stayed over the weekend at thier campsite. The hardstanding areas where a little difficult for our large motorhome due to the grass areas being very very soft due to excessive rain previously, so we pitched up in the carpark. The site is really ok and has a play area for kids, there is also a shower and toilet block which is still under construction but water and chemical toilet are available plus use of the toilets in the pub. The pub itself is very friendly and the food is good and competitively priced, and is surprisingly busy given its rural location which says much for its popularity. As a bonus the Blaenavon heritage railway line terminates beside the Whistle inn at a small platform and station building, where you can catch the steam train To various stations down the line including the Heritage Big Pit coal mine. You can hop on and off the train at any station. All in all a weekend or even a week at the Whistle stop inn and campsite is highly recommended.

Have probly gone to the whistle for best part of 3 years but we went recently in a party of 16 and have never felt so disappointed, food was awful, service was off putting, and drinks done wrong, made a complaint but obviously being the decent party didn't do it in front of other customers but now I wish I did, Told them the problems on nearly all the meals, told them about the attitude we received from the manager and also told them about the drinks, they replied , we sorry about the manager attitude but he had be suffering with a bad back, so he must of thought take it out on us, as for the meals well avoid the kebab, £17 for 3 small pieces of meat and I mean small and a small hard pita bread. I'm not going to mention the other faults on meals and drinks as I would be here all day. Woman who I chatted to on fave book messenger did not and just blocked me. So please don't build your hopes up as the whistle does flop in its EXPECTATIONS, This was the first time this as happened in all the visits tho and the others times fare play its been faultless but this time was enough to put us off for good. They did offer 4 free meals, but somehow I think I would of struggled to share them with 16 others.

We camped here and loved it although the weather was not kind and the grass had just been cut and left in the field so grass cutting were everywhere... We had one meal here and the food was spectacular. Service and staff were also excellent. We all enjoyed the starters, mains and deserts and came away stuffed and happy. I have to knock off one star for the very low hygiene rating. Hopefully, they can 'up' this to a more reasonable rating. The toilet facilities could also do with a little TLC and as it is shared with the campsite it did run low of maintenance, soap and toilet paper.
