Just had our very first meal here and everything was spot on. Called in on the off chance of getting a table and received a Lovely welcome as a posed to a different welcome a few hundred metres down the road. Bar staff were attentive and knowledgeable, everyone I noticed received the same attention and courtesy. Food was delicious and looking at everything that came out I'd be tempted to try it all. My husband had a scrumptious dessert and I opted for an extra glass of Merlot which was also very good. Looking forward to eating here again soon.

Every time I go to this pub it's always a long wait to order food and when they finally come to ask u for your order they run out of what's in the board !!! This as happened 4 times now ! And the time before I ordered a beef lasagna and as it happened it come without the beef ... Staff are lazy too , Ruth be on there phone on Facebook

It's so nice to have a dog friendly pub close by with really friendly staff and lovely food at a very reasonable price.

Stayed in the apartment above the pub was very surprised when walking in was very clean finished to a very high standard highly recommend staying there if you in the area. We had dinner in the pub food was amazing very delicious. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Really good place

Well what can I say had my wife's 60th birthday there were about 70 of us and all was very happy the buffet was stunning with plenty to eat and all very tasty everyone and I mean everyone commented on how good it was and I must admit it was the best buffet I have ever seen they certainly know their stuff and how to put a first class buffet on and the staff were very professional and so efficient the quality of service was so good it made for Avery enjoyable evening . I can honestly say that this has got to be on top of anyone's list for a celebration venue just for the very high quality food and the very professional staff . Thank you so so much wain-y-clare you made it Avery special evening I highly recommend the wain-y-clare to everyone who is looking for a quality party venue .

Had lunch here i had the Tapas selection which was excellent ( prawns, patatas bravas and chorizo sausage), memsahb had chicken and leek pie also good, staff and service very good too

Nice little pub, friendly staff and good food

Have visited 3 times in recent years with family and every visit someone has got food poisoning. It is a good place for a drink with a roaring fire inside and the staff are so lovely. Again I would not recommend eating anything here

Booked for 9 family members at half an hours notice after seeing Santa at Blaenavon Railway. We couldn't have chosen a better place for a relaxed meal with 6 adults and three under 3yos Food was fab and varied with lots of options. The staff were great, attentive without asking us every few minutes how our food was so we ate at our own pace without being rushed. Loads of space at the table for our party and everyone enjoyed their food from 2 yos to 69 yos.

One dish out of 17 was not to our liking - and was immediately taken off the bill. Fantastic service, friendly staff, great night out 😁

Absolutely loved our experience! This place holds wonderful family and friend’s memories spanning many years under the management of Tom and Jean. Sadly it lost its way for some time afterwards and we’d not visited in years. But, wow! Great food (all 6 main course superb) 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Front of house were brilliant (Jake & Christian) and compliments to the talented chef. We’ve booked an additional two family visits and so looking forward to it!

Visited the wain y Claire for lunch to celebrate a birthday . Food was excellent and the two young men working front of house on Saturday 25th were both so friendly and helpful , they made lunch even more special . As a coeliac I am very wary when eating out as I can be quite ill after eating gluten but I have eaten at the Wain y Claire several times now and always been fine , this is great as it means I can relax and enjoy my meal . Thanks to everyone both front of house and in the kitchen .

This restaurant can cater for any function - lunch, dinner, birthday celebration. My family and I had lunch there celebrating a family birthday. The food was delicious - every dish from the specials to the traditional menu; the staff, Jake and Christian were great - efficient without being intrusive and friendly whilst professional. Sorry we did not see the Chef however equally their cooking was great.

Beautiful Sunday lunch, excellent service

Enjoyed my wifes birthday meal here booked by the children. A beautiful Sunday dinner with a choice of turkey or beef. There is plenty of meat with a gorgeous taste moist and juicy. There is a nice selection of vegetables, and ww also had extra gravy. The deserts were enjoyed, and I had an Irish coffee that finished off my meal experience perfectly. Well, it's worth a visit if you're in the area. The entrance is a hidden turning just off the roundabout, so don't excellerate to quickly or you'll pass it.

Place wasn't busy, but they do have their busy times. The staff were very welcoming, and the service was delivered with a smile. It's not an expensive pub/restaurant and worth a visit as it's been around for decades and still maintains its old pub character...enjoy..!

The food is very good and varied. The service excellent. The pub is also dog freindly, well worth a visit.

What a fabulous place to take small children and eat at a very reasonable price. I’d highly recommend the steak as it was one of the best steaks. I’ve ever eaten the children’s meals are adequate in size and really tasty. If you can try their home-made desserts as they are seriously yummy. The small area is nice and safe for children and the staff are really friendly

Lovely little local that is always good for a nice family catch up meal when I visit Wales. The team in here are always helpful, and while the pub is in need of a bit of a facelift the device and food make it a pleasant place to choose every time.

Lovely old pub. We had an excellent meal here,proper home made fish pie ( with loads of fish) curry, chicken skewer thing. Portions were huge, and all freshly made. Not usual frozen! Staff were lovely too. Exceptional!

We've been here on 2 occasions in the past few weeks and would highly recommend. We went last night (11/09/2023) my husband and I. I had the lamb shank pie with the carrot and leek gravy and mash with beans courgette and carrots on the side. This dish was £18.95 I believe, well I wasn't expecting the dish to be the size it was, it was huge, everything tasted fantastic, the lamb shank cooked to perfection and that gravy was devine. Didn't feel the need to have the courgette on the side but still a 10/10 meals and would 100% have this again. My husband had the beef madras with half and half rice and chips which came with a side of pompodoms and hot lime chutney, again the meat was perfectly cooked where the beef was falling apart not like a curry normally is in a place like this it's usually rubbery, again this dish was big. Smelt and tasted amazing. It did have a kick to it specified on special board as fairly hot. My husband likes spicy and after the last time we came the curry previously had sold out so happy to have it this time (multiple choices of Currys available on the special board varying in heat). It's fair to say this has turned into one of our favourites places to come and a highly recommend for friend, family, couples etc. There's a large park in the garden where a garden menu is also available. 1st time Sunday roast here for me (visited a couple of weeks ago) The meat cooked perfectly while veg and gravy delish. One of us had the sausage and mash dish in the specials menu (think the sausages were a little crisp and meant to be spicy which they weren't but still had a great flavour) and a kids fish finger meal.

Booked a table for 6pm but arrived early. Staff were very friendly and welcoming and said our table was ready. I fancied a gin and tonic for a change - they offered quite a good selection of gins but only had Britvic tonic as they had run out of Fever Tree. Second choice was house red which I was allowed a taste of as it was one I wasn't familiar with. Prices on drinks was reasonable at eleven quid for a pint and a large glass of red. A sharing plate of baked camembert to start that came with onion chutney and lightly toasted bread was delicious and plenty for 2. The mains however, were a disappointment. I ordered the chicken hanging skewer with chargrilled veg that came with 3 dips and chips. Skewer was lovely, but why serve frozen chips and spoil the meal?? They were so dry and tasteless, brought the overall effect down. Husband ordered lamb kofti special - spicy rice was not spicy, not enough mint/garlic sauce and the chunky salsa was missing entirely 😞 Not a raging success... don't think we'll be going back.

Moreover, they have a beautiful, peaceful garden, where you can enjoy it if it is not raining... unfortunately that was the case, but the service cannot change that...

Went for a Sunday lunch. Staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Food was really good. Sunday dinner was very tasty, although if there was one criticism it would be that the accompanying vegetables were drenched in butter. If you stay for dessert, you must have the sticky toffee pudding. I've had it in lots of places, but this was the best I've ever had, by far. Homemade and very light - an absolute triumph. Prices were average for what we had. All in all, would definitely recommend a visit. Just make sure you book, because it's very popular.

We attended yesterday afternoon for my mums 60th birthday, a party of 17 and I have to say the whole experience was perfect. The manager was so helpful and nothing was too much. Enjoyed the place. Service and food was good, although the beef was a little tough. Some of the food was too flavoured for some of our group and would have preferred the potatoes, etc., without garlic, rosemary flavour, etc. Was hoping to enjoy the beer garden buy weather wasn't on our side. Came to the wain y clare for fathers day lunch the food was lovely and the portion size was good too I have to say the staff are all very friendly and very attentive will definitely be coming back here they have a nice little beer garden too with a kids play area I'd definitely recommend this place

Well, we were here about 3 years ago and had a lovely meal. Booked in for Sunday lunch last Sunday, what an amazing meal. The Sunday dinner was excellent and my son and granddaughter's burgers were amazing. Will definitely book again.

Fantastic welcome from the barman and the young lad that delivered our food to the table was extremely polite and offered to bring a water bowl for our pooch too....Nice. I had the cheese and bacon burger, which was absolutely delicious and my partner had the small cod and chips, which she happily devoured. Great service, great grub....and a lovely place to sit in the beer garden too. Top marks all round to you all. We will be back.

Very dog friendly, staff excellent big shout out to Jake. If you don't know the turning off the road you can miss it but there's a roundabout you swing round if you miss it. It was our second time visiting (from London) love this place.

Ordered the 22 pound stake and it was shocking it was flat as a pancake with loads of fat on it it was so raw I asked if they could cook it more came back no less than 5 mins still the same so I just tryed to get on with it. I ate here with some friends last week and the service was slow despite it being really quiet. Bar and serving staff just seemed to be chatting amongst themselves while we waited for someone to take our order. I had the vegan BBQ Quorn and it was okay but I didn't think much thought had gone into the cheese used and there was no vegan mayo to go with it. We came here for our Christmas meal but this was a very disappointing experience. We pre-booked our meal with our deposit paid in advance so there was plenty of notice and time to prep. It wasn't even that busy. When its said that you eat with your eye's, you'd expect presentation to be prioritised. It looked unappetising. The Turkey seemed like it was slapped on top of the vegetables which were basic. Roast potatoes, carrot's, sprouts, roast parsnips that were hard and a tiny roulade for dessert. The building was freezing but there's the hope of a warm meal heating you up. Unfortunately even the food was served lukewarm and with the temperature of the building it soon went cold. This was advertised as a Christmas menu and the Christmas music was turned on as we left. If you are looking for fresh, hot, quality food with a lovely Christmas atmosphere then this isn't the place. Spend your money wisely.

First visited this lovely, cosy, old pub more than a decade ago & was impressed with the food & price then. My family & I visited this pub a few months ago for my daughter's birthday & although we had a fairly long wait of half an hour for our food, it was worth the wait as it was all cooked to perfection & delicious. The pub was packed & all the tables were taken. Typical pub grub but also extra dishes on the menu. Lots of lamb dishes on the menu. Cooked to perfection & delicious. We revisited this pub last Saturday but booked for lunch time instead of evening this time. It was a lot quieter than in the evening but we still had a half an hour wait for our food. It was worth the wait though as all the dishes were brought together & were all piping hot & delicious. Although the desserts were quite expensive, we all decided to have the same, chocolate fudge cake & had a big slice with ice cream & cream. Delicious! I could've quite easily had another slice. The service was excellent by all staff & were polite & friendly. Would highly recommend a meal out here for an enjoyable night out in a cosy, little pub with a relaxed atmosphere with the added benefit of an open fire in the winter which gave the pub a lovely cosy feel. Not many pubs around now with an open fire. Toilets were clean & tidy & there is also an outside area to sit with a small safe play area for children. Will be revisiting for more nights out in the future. Ten out of ten.

Oh dear!! What a disappointing visit we had today! I chose, from the specials) firecracker salmon with jacket potato, where to start: the jacket was definitely not fresh just warmed slightly! Hard putter and not the skin the actual potato! Butter didn’t even melt! The tiny piece of salmon was just squirted with sweet chilli and a chopped chilli atop, definitely not worth the £15!! Hubby had the tikka platter, oh my!! Curry was runny and watery! The “tikka chips” well there about 7 chips with a lil curry powder sprinkled on 3! Daughter had the chicken skewers, well let’s just say it was a big let down, with oven chips half cooked on the side!! We had the CRISPY potato skins to share, they were soggy and definitely not crispy!! We were not impressed and will not be visiting this place again!!!
