Outward appearance does not promote the delicious food e.g. fish in homemade batter at £7.50. Very friendly staff and locals. Also does B & B and although we were not staying if the food is indicative I am sure that standards would be high and value for money. Since Covid Tourists tend to stay in Abergavenny thereby missing a atmospheric slice of Welsh history and culture.

Went for meal. Our normal place was fully booked ended up here! Did look rough around edges. Doesn’t take card, so keeps costs really low! Proper home cooked chips, the best ever battered fish, lovely moist peas, lovely side salad and gorgeous bread and butter. All no frills, but probably the best fish and chips I’ve ever had! All for £6.25! Can you believe it!

Had lunch here with father in law who was born there nearly 90 years ago. Food and service excellent - really good value and quality pub fayre and very well looked after. This place is well worth a visit and I have no doubt we will be back on or around my father in laws 90th!

We called in by chance later on in the afternoon and were not sure if food was still being served. We were greeted by a lovely lady who welcomed us in. We ordered cottage pie with local vegetables. Beautifully presented home cooked food. The taste was amazing. The toffee pudding was gorgeous too. Such lovely people to be around and great service. We would highly recommend the Queen Victoria Inn for service and wonderful food at great prices. You will not be disappointed. Thank you to all at the Inn. We wish you well with your business.

The Queen's food is great on a budget and has big portions. The pub itself is a bit basic but this is fine for the price you pay. They do Sunday lunches too but I have only had the bar food menu which was nice.

Staying at the lion last Saturday night and called into the queen Victoria for dinner. Warm welcome. Friendly atmosphere and amazing home cooked menu. Had home cooked lasagne and hand cut chips with salad for £5. Unbelievable value and thoroughly enjoyed our evening there.

When I was looking for somewhere for my partner and I to eat on Saturday evening I came across the Queen Victoria just by chance. I read the menu online and as I didn't believe it could be true I called them and was reassured that it was exactly as was described....It was a no brainer....I had to book! Now being a semi retired Michelin Chef I was expecting it to be, how can I say.....well just OK! How wrong could I have been.....It wasn't just OK it was bloomin fantastic! From the welcome upon arrival, the meal, the atmosphere, the local banter in the background and the way we were made to feel like we were friends, it was just beyond our dreams. Don't be misled by the menu online, it is truly Homemade, Fresh, Well Presented and more than filling! We know we will be back as soon as we are in the area again. Final note, PLEASE DONT CHANGE, you are doing the Pub & Pub Food industry a truly wonderful justice, Thank You.

Called here on a day out for lunch. We Had a very warm welcome when we arrived and were seated straight away and given menu's. There is not a big choice but what is there is a nice few select dishes. We had a very nice meal which arrived quickly and hot. The price was very good and well worth it. Would definatley go there again and would recommend it to anyone.

This lovely little pub/B&B is at the southern entrance to Blaenavon and can't be missed en route from Pontypool to Abergavenny/Brynmawr. Looking at the prices, you might fear for the quality of the food. Well worry not. This is exceptional pub grub. I had the veggie lasagne and he had the gammon. Both meals were freshly cooked to perfection. I had no quibble with any aspect of mine, and neither did he. The drinks were equally surprisingly low-priced. It was quite refreshing to have a meal that was no frills, no pretentious huge amounts of inedible parsley or 'jus' dribbled on top in a pretty pattern. Well done, Queen Victoria. Long may you reign.

After a hard day cutting and hauling rock we did not feel in the mood for the "fine dining" on offer at the Lion and chose this pub we had not visited before, hoping for something plain and filling. It was a lucky choice, we both had a very enjoyable meal at a remarkably cheap price. This is a real old fashioned pub full of real human beings, the conversation was almost as enjoyable as the food. The real ale was not available but the Theakston's mild went down very well - my only regret was that as I was driving I was limited to one drink. I don't often get to Blaenavon, but I will be back here again. Sometimes you end up in the perfect place just by chance.

Absolutely the best fish and chips we have had in a while!! At first glance must admit was not expecting much, but the food was well worth the wait and absolutely mouth watering :) only downside would be the interior, but otherwise great recommendation if looking for a good place to grab some grub!

WoW!!!! What a lovely quaint little pub with lovely hostess', Heather & Roz. Had the gammon it was absolutely gorgeous well presented, only £6.95 each could easily charge £10+ each. Can't wait to pay them a visit soon.

Traveling from Middx. We needed to stop for a sandwich and tried this pub. No sandwiches but a fresh cooked meal for £5! Don't know how they do it.

We've been going to Brown Bears for over a year. We have never had a bad experience. The coffee, cake and service are all excellent. A 5 score is not enough..they deserve 10 out of 10.
