Oh dear, where to start? I had the scallops starter, at £13 I was expecting 2 or 3 queen scallops, or 5 normal size. I got three tiny ones, the diameter of pennies. They were cooked alright, but these are West End of London prices! Partner had the Caprese, the cheese was old and hard, the tomatoes were just out the fridge, too cold, and tasteless. It's only two ingredients, and no cooking involved. This is really bad. My lamb shank mains was small, but lots of potatoes (cos they're cheap) which were not nice in both taste and texture, and were left uneaten. The "red wine sauce" was plain old packet mix gravy, thick with monosodium glutamate (I could taste it) and quickly congealed on the plate. My partner ordered the "peppercorn sauce" with hers and it was exactly the same sauce, "just add boiling water" crud. Note to chef; a peppercorn sauce is supposed to be CREAMY, WITH PEPPERCORNS!! She sent it straight back. The food is on a par with a Toby Carvery, and not unlike a Tesco ready-meal, but priced like a Michelin star restaurant. Skipped dessert and bought a Magnum on the way home, basically to get rid of the taste of the monosodium glutamate, that was the highlight of my evening out. On the countertop, when we were paying (or being robbed), there was a tray with a bowl of ready grated parmesan. On the same tray was a bottle of table cleaner (disinfectant spray) with the cleaning cloth hanging over the bowl of parmesan. I can only think that the good reviews on here are coming from the staff, the owners, or people whose only experience of eating out is a kebab shop or McDonalds. We told the chef all of this and he was sheepish, evasive and plainly didn't want to know. He certainly didn't care. So, if you would like to spend good money on an Italian meal, I can recommend a place in Llandaff called Porro. They actually make their food in the kitchen, not just microwave catering supplies, and packet mix ingredients.

Arrived at opening time nobody else there and placed order. Half hour later food still not arrived. Asked waitress said another 3 minutes, 5 minutes later arrived but now had to take away instead of eating in cafe. Ate at home bacon was good but waffles were undercooked . Crispy on outside but doughy in middle.

We visited on a busy Friday night with family and were greates warmly and shown to our table. The service was excellent all evening so couldn't fault this. The fish and chips I had was solid, nothing to write home about and the others in the party had a couple of different burgers that we ok. Portions were of a good side, although the chips could have been crispier and the tartar sauce and peas I had did lack seasoning. A very good selection of Welsh ales brewed on site.

35 minute wait for a luke warm, rubbery over cooked breakfast with rock hard hash brown, two eggs that managed to be both chewy AND have runny egg white, an anaemic sausage, and about 6 beans. No toast. They apparently had no bread and didn't care. The bacon was like cardboard. They didn't give a damn when I pointed out this wasn't really good enough, and literally shrugged and walked off. I was starving and will eat anything but this was crap. I remain hungry and paid for the privilege.
