The best restaurants in Newport South Wales

Went to the Nando’s in Swindon today. Disappointed with my chicken as it was cold. Although did get a fresh one. Broccoli was also cold. On the app it said there was no halloumi but other people were ordering it which was also disappointing. Some helpful staff though.

Fluffing distaster. First time since feb 2020 and last time ever. Ordered 2h ahead, with a specified time of the delivery. With specific instructions for both the driver and the "kitchen". Is it hard to read and interpret "please, use half of the usual amount of tomato sauce"? Is it hard to understand to put double cheese and some beef? Do you need someone to draw you a picture / pictogram in order to do what your are fluffing paid to do? Pizza was cold on the edges, barerly warm in the very middle. Over half an hour late, no contact with the driver or the "restarurant" itself. Customer service - NON-EXISTENT. Pizza was missing two toppings, was soggy and drenched in fat (that includes the cardboard box as well!) If you have a choice between frozen pizza (ANY!!) and pizzahut, please, do not hesitate. Fluff the latter. Fluffing DISGUSTING, both food and customer service.

We were in Newport and decided it would be rude and unnecessary of us not to nip into a Wetherspoons pub and sample the breakfast on offer. It was first thing in the morning after all. We were a tad peckish and looking forward to a good feast. And so we entered The John Wallace Llinton and ordered a couple of their traditional starters to the day. Sausages, hash browns, bacon, toast beans, the usual 'Spoons brekkie arrived in differing stages of heat. Hot sausage and nuclear hash browns accompanied tepid bacon and cold toast. Beans with a medium depth skin on the sauce surface fought for room with a fried egg that had been cooked in the same furnace as the hash browns. So hard, it was dangerous enough to almost blunt the knife. Adequate, nothing more.

We came here for afternoon tea which was amazing. Instead of the traditional sandwiches it consisted of a caramelised onion sausage roll, cheese and ham croquette, avocado halloumi and chili jam bap and a pulled pork bun. Unlimited hot drinks as well as your iced lattes. Service was excellent by all members of staff especially Rhys who couldn’t do more for us. One person couldn’t make it so he boxed it up for us and offered a takeaway drink as well. Thank you for an excellent experience and we would definitely come again!

We were visiting on holiday and wanted a chinese takeaway and looked at the reviews and thought this was worth a try. When we got there, you had to phone your order though, not knowing this, one of the staff very kindly came out to see us and take our order, who was very friendly and helpful. So glad we chose this one. The food was so tasty and we all agreed it was the best takeaway we had ever had, and we have had a few! We couldn't get over the portion sizes, especially the chicken balls, as well as being a good price, there was simply nothing to fault. We wish it was our local chinese. We shall certainly be back when in the area again.

Do not understand previous poor reviews about staff The staff on this morning were more than helpful the young lad carried our coffee to our table without being asked always have coffee here when my husband has to attend the Eye Clinic best coffee in town

Try to order a garlic bread with cheese charge me 13 pound 80 please don't ever order anything from them there will be rip you off

Poor offering of food. Went for lunch and only food on offer was cakes or crisps. Had a coffee on the terrace overlooking the river then went looking for somewhere offering proper food for lunch

Rang up for a delivery and when it arrived one of the dishes was indirect. When ringing up to politely inform them, lady on the phone was rude and said “that’s what you ordered” to which I responded it wasn’t. I said that I had taken a bite and realised it was the wrong dish and she responded “so you ate it anyway?” In a rude tone, implying that I was trying to get another dish when I had just told her that the dishes looked similar hence why I took ONE bite which is when I realised that it was not what I ordered. When relaying this point to the staff member on the phone and informing her she was incorrect she said “tra” and hung up the phone rudely. Good food but rude staff, not sure I’ll be ordering again.

I have just come back from a 4 night stay - Highly recommend; the standard of the room was excellent (112) stunning views of the bay, the owners had decorated and equipped the room to a very high std, table and chairs, sofa, v comfy double bed, shower over the bath, all accessories provided inc slippers! The kitchenette was well equipped with tea, coffee, cleaning products, all crockery and utensils, fridge, microwave, toaster so for the days unable to walk / go out it was perfect. The breakfast and lunch at the Cat Rock Cafe were first class, great service the team are excellent and the food is all fresh with generous portions - if you like a cooked breakfast it’s amazing!! Julian, Allian and all the team couldn’t have done more to ensure me and the 2 dogs had a perfect stay! Some of the rooms have downstairs patios and some rooms upstairs have a balcony, it’s worth checking what’s available - and also what the interior layout offers - some have kitchenette and some have more beds instead - family room. All areas are dog friendly and the walks down to the beach and along the coast are stunning .. it’s worth more than 5 stars - many thks to all the team - Looking forward to returning next spring!

Bought as a Christmas gift for cat loving friend who is recovering from ill health. Booked for 28 March hoping for warmer weather. Phoned the week before to check they had my booking, only to find it has closed! Phone number not answered, e mail down, Wowcher not responded to my request for refund. Disappointed as friend has just lost her beloved cat and this would have been the perfect tonic for her. So nothing for my money, less than impressed. RIP OFF

Normally when visiting Newport for training at the velodrome I stop at another coffee house but for the last few weeks the training sessions have been earlier, and the normal place has been shut. The staff have been pleasant, and the coffee was nice… I did have a toasted teacake with jam on one occasion, but the jam was far to sugary… Next week I think we'll try the place next door and see how that is, but all in all a reasonable place for a coffee and I would go back. Some of my reviews may seem unforgiving but I come from a time when everything was not “Awesome” and “near enough was not good enough”. So, if I say something is “Excellent” that is because it is somewhere better than most others… and well worth considering visiting. Ordered take away through just eat, quoted 30-45 minute wait, food arrives after 1 hour. Missing one of the main curry dishes (of 4 ordered). Called several times, they don't pick up their phone as switched to answer phone. Always a bad sign if you ask me. Messaged on Facebook - left several messages but no call back. Avoid as food is okay but portion sizes small considering the prices they charge. Won't be using again & if you have any sense, you'd avoid them too!
