One of the best steak pies I've had in the UK, the gravy on chips was fantastic, and good amount of veggies. Standard pub prices and very friendly staff.
we were here for boxing day when we arrived it was very busy lots of noise staff very pleasant shame cant say same for food we had pate to start which as a full slice of toast with a slab of parfait on the side with a portion of onion chutney it looked so uninviting no presentation dire the main courses were a delight not 1 turkey dinner 1 fish and chips 1 sea bass well what can I say sea bass arrived as 2 finger fillets which had been cooked within an inch of its life accompanied by burnt new potatoes and fried kale floating in grease an what they called brocolli? seriously !!! was sent back had turkey dinner instead we wont go there cheese and biscuits with pickled grapes who thought of that crackers no butter christmas puddingwith brandy custard was served with lumpy custard just awful we are not fussy eaters but this was dire have never ever had to return food ever
We went on Thursday (steak night), our steaks were cooked to perfection. All the staff are friendly and attentive, special compliments to Craig, Shaun and Rob.
My wife and myself visited while we were passing. Service off the young lady behind the bar was spot on. Food was served quickly and piping hot. Very generous portion size. If we are ever in the area again we will for sure be popping in

Ordered on the app. Ready for me to collect within 5 minutes. Hog roast toastie was amazing 👏 didnt realise there was also an option to have your order brought to your car so will do that next time! :)
This the worst dinner experience I've had.
I booked for Saturday evening.
The place was practically empty for a Saterday evening, I was about to find out why.
Very limited choice of drinks, even though there was at least 8 beer pumps on the bar, the cider came out of a lager. The lager ran out after 1 and1/2 pints.
We wanted some wine, we had to go behind the bar to select a bottle.
They had no wine glasse.
I bought my friend a whisky, there was some foreign body in the whisky.
They just poured the whisky into even more dirtier glass.
We ordered steak, and ale pie.
The pie was just some weak gravy with 4 small pieces of meat floating in it, with a small piece of puff pastry floating on top of it.
I asked to see the manger, he or she
would not come out to see me, so my complaints were ferried by the bar staff to the manager.
Some customers children inside the pub were treating the place like a playground screaming and running around.
I was expecting the staff to say something, they didn't.
When I complained to the staff, they just replied, "that family is going soon"..
This pub used to be one of best in the area when it was a community pub. It's still in a great location.
We had a refund for the food.
As locals, we try to support this cafe when we can, especially when out walking on a weekend. But week after week the slowness of the kitchen service at weekends makes it a frustrating experience, will not be visiting again until it improves . Today, 30 mins wait for 2 coffees, that was after we’d chased them up. I could have walked home, made coffee and walked back with it in less time. Three other tables complaining of the wait when we arrived and others while we were there. It’s a regular occurrence on Sundays.
Feel sorry for the waiting on staff who are lovely.
Don’t agree with the no cash system, and it’s painful watching the young staff struggle with the card machine connections outside.
This is a great place for an informal meal, or a quick refreshment break.
Not only is the menu imaginative and varied, but the opening hours are longer than is usual in a coffee shop type establishment.
On our last visit we enjoyed a light lunch of home-made soup. We regularly stop off for a coffee but can rarely resist the appeal of the cakes.
With artwork displayed on the walls inside, and information leaflets about visitor attractions, it's quite a community hub.
There is a large outdoor seating area where dogs are welcome.
In our experience service is usually efficient, though it can be a little slow during busy times.
