Squire Yorke in Wrexham

Awful lunch staff not very professional will no use again .staff chef behind carvery counter not even wearing a proper uniform, food cold .

We visit Squire York almost every week at lunch time - generally preferring the slightly quiter experience as we are both in our seventies. The food is extremely good value. Wine is sensibly priced; water provided uncomplainingly with ice and lemon as desired. Tables are clean, and chairs comfortable. Staff are courteous. We like the wide range of vegetables - including potatoes three ways. Meat is excellent - beef particularly tender and tasty, but all three offerings consistently good. Stuffing is tasty and yorkshire puds vary from crisp to soft - ideal! We are glad that the little phase of cooking several of the veg in mustard has been dropped - not every one's cup of tea - but then the choice is so good that there are always plenty of alternatives. Just one small request: could you occasionally include parsnips - preferably roasted? Also occasional choice of peas or sweet corn might be nice. The whole experience is highly recommended. Thanks to all the staff.

One of the worst meals. Vegetables very over cooked. Could ld not eat them.. felt sorry for customers who came in just before 6.00 and no food

Really poor service... People behind the bar and waitresses act like they don't even want to be there! I had a discount code and the lady was rolling her eyes at me that she had to ask the supervisor to put the code through... It really put me off. The only nice thing is carvery - if you're lucky, don't bother ordering off the menu.

The greeter was the only good thing about our experience, she was very pleasant. The cleared table that we were directed to had not been wiped. No utensils on table, went back to carvery to request some, was told that utensils would be on the table, but of course they weren't as I would not have been asking for some. I was in the carvery queue for a few minutes until someone came to serve me, no apology for my wait. The staff in general seemed off, there was definitely a poor working atmosphere. The carvery itself was substandard and was in fact the worst carvery I had had the misfortune to have. The gravy was tepid, the Yorkshire pud was under cooked, as was the cauliflower. I should have just asked for my money back but I was really hungry. I told the greeter about the poor standard of carvery before we left. My husband had the hunter chicken meal, he wasn't very pleased with that either. Will not return.

Visited with my husband, carvery small amounts of meat , potatoes very dry , paid extra for two pigs in blankets, customer behind asked server are these included. He said no then said go on heres two. Tbh so sad to see a once thriving pub going down hill...... Hopefully Hickorys will get the service up and running again .

Where to start, after all our party ordering our food and paying and at least 15 minutes later to be told three of us who'd ordered scampi that they had none, so we chose again. At least a further 15 minutes later I was told what I'd chosen was not available so had to choose a third dish bearing in mind some if our party were already eating their meals ,but after expressing my annoyance I was refunded the cost of my meal with an apology from an embarrassed member of staff. The rest of the food eventually started to come to our table but not at the same time infact some of our party had eaten their meal before some even had their food. The new waitress on shift had very little knowledge of the food or table layout because she took our food to the wrong table, definitely needs more training. Some of our meals were cold and items missing from meals, no sausages on a mixed grill, no poppadoms with the curry, onion rings on one meal but not on the other exact same meal. Some ordered dessert one of which should have had strawberries served with it but apparently they had none. A member of our party complained and again the same embarrassed member of staff who was very apologetic dealt with the situation and refunded the cost of two items. A second bottle of white wine had to be substituted for rose as again they had no more white wine by the bottle for sale. We were extremely disappointed with both the food and the service with only three people working front of house and clearly a lack of communication between the kitchen and staff taking food orders and numbers of dishes available. As a group we all agreed we will not come here again.

i never complain about anything but this time i feel i have to. What a dirty place, the staff were very poor with the service, the so called manager well what a rude man. We had to go search for our own knives and forks. the tables were dirty and sticky. When i told the manager nicely about the service his reply was jog on.

If I could today... the Squire Yorke would receive a minus rating. Arrived for what I had anticipated to be a lovely get together with friends for quite afternoon drinks, not so. Police presence were there upon my arrival and required due to an unruly customer. Lack of bar staff then serving and management afterwards started another altercation at the bar for customers as no orderly fashion in which to set out a clear direction to queue for drink orders and food orders as usual. Manager clearly missing by this point to support his staff. Customers squashed in what one can loosely describe as the bar area around the idiotic placement of the pool table. Dirty tables with used food plates and glasses left all around due to staff not cleaning up promptly after customers leaving. Ladies toilet disgusting yet again and not hygienically checked. Area manager please take note??? Somewhat concerning to all customers when the generic Squire Yorke reply to feedback is "we strive to provide 100% service"

Always a great meal, great service and great value for money. Alway pop in when visiting family. Guaranteed a good hot meal with a great choice on the menue.

Went in for lunch stunning beautiful pub inside and out the food was delicious and the staff was really friendly will be returning soon

Tonight was the first time we have visited the Squire York for over 12 years strange as we live only 1 mile down the road.Tonight we tried the carvery excellent value at £7,50 for the standard plate the food was pretty good only 2 choices of meats as the Turkey was down to the bare bones but still on offer and no replacement when asked.We will come back in the near future.

What a fantastic mea we had we had the carvery it was amazing the smell as we drove in just made me want the beef and boy was I happy fresh food with plenty of choice will be back again jhon who was running the carvery couldn't do enough for us making sure we were happy with the food and even asked if there qas enough meat on our plate. Ther was big the way this place is definitely on our list now

I was my Retirement and birthday Saturday 11, we booked this meal because there was 13 of us and as my niece said below on her review it was a great afternoon with the exception of one thing for me. All went well the cake arrived and then I asked my daughter and nieces partner to order puddings for those who wanted them. As the puddings were coming out I ask the lady can we have....and before I said anymore she was saying we are very busy sorry the puddings are late. I was not complaining about time which I told her about the second time. I was asking for a teaspoon for my granddaughter to eat her ice cream when she said 'it comes with a teaspoon.' How was I to know? Also adults have bowls of ice cream my mum used to so I was expecting a desert spoon so to save her legs was asking for teaspoon, she was a bit snotty with me. I have been in catering and had a cafe business over 30 years and no way would my girls speak to any customer that way. Put your listening ears on and don't assume!

The service was awsome. All friendly. The cavery was lovely although the sprouts could do with being more softer......and maybe have cawliflower there to but not mixed with a sauce. The desert was lovely though. And all the family really enjoyed them selves the staff...

Great place for kids as you can sit down and eat whilst not worrying about the kids - they can go off and play. Also, the food was lovely. Had the bacon and cheeseburger and couldn't fault it. Would recommend and will be returning.

I had the vegetarian option and the choice of vegetables was very impressive, fresh and tasty. My friend had a choice of meats and enjoyed it. Neither of us could finish as the portions were very generous so we were provided with containers to take home. Would recommend.

Visited this evening with the family...John was our server and what a lovely fella he is... Nothing was to much trouble, he was fantastic with the kids.. John is a credit to the place. Food was lovely Covid rules and regs kept to perfectly..... We will be back. A thousand thumbs up from the kids.

Went to squire York for meal with my family as a manorial to a past family member.our waiter for the evening was John sidebottom,who was a very compatant host he new the food and drink of the establishment, and was cordial, polite, and humoras. Although the food was good the service was exceptional and will be the reason we will return.

Always a great service here. Attentive and polite. Food lovely traditional pub grub or the carvery. Carvery is everyday too! Bonus is we only live around the corner too so a short walk. We arrived Friday without a booking and due to the spacing of tables we were lucky to get one. Always best to ring at the mo with the current situation. You don't have to but advisable. You can also just pop for a pint. Beer is always fresh and the glasses are always clean and the beers in the correct glass ( I am a bit of a glass snob haha ). We were well looked after by all the team and Joshua found us a lovely table and always asked us if everything was ok when he passed our table. Came at a fairly busy time without a reservation. The host managed to find us a seat . We were then served by John, very friendly service and quite sexy too. Food was also pretty booming for the price. Will be coming back soon .

Where credits due , especially with all this covid ,visited 4 times in the past few weeks.We must say the food whether is was carvey or off the main menu was top nosh, One gentleman named John stood out tremendously with his politeness and attitude. We will certainly becoming back.

Visited with my family , food was great ,staff helpful. Unfortunately some of the covid rules were not adhered to. You had some family members walking from table to table, no masks even carrying plates from one table to the next. Customers going the wrong way,even though it is clearly signed. Children running around. A gentleman even without a mask ,was seen walking up to the bar talking to staff. When yet again it states the staff will come to you. Some people need to get to grips and get their act together

Popped in to the Squire Wrexham for a pre lockdown Carvery .Whate a good Carvery for the price our table waiter was John chatty & pleasant .friendly staff.I don,t know how they do it for the Price.

Visited today as an end of term treat for kids. The service today by John was first class. He interacted with the children and made them feel special. He was extremely attentive. The food itself was fast, hot and tasty. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Visited on Sunday Brilliant pub after the first time of being here me and my friend felt really safe especially with the COVID situation going on at the moment the manager was absolutely brilliant and very accommodating for us this a great place for some good food we will easily be returning here and we highly recommend this place especially as we felt so safe thank u to the staff and the manager of this place u were brilliant can’t wait to come again soon.

Not been here for a good few years as it had gone down hill but thought we'd give it a try. Obviously with the restrictions things are different but the restaurant and tables were very clean. The girl on the front desk explained what we were to do. Our waiter was lovely, the chaps serving the carvery were lovely and the food was delicious. I am a regular at the squire, however I will not be visiting again. Shocking service. I understand things are difficult due to government orders etc. When you ask for specific items on your dinner you don’t expect to not be given them. Plus- eating with hands Cos no cutlery. Terrible. And when we raised the fact of no cutlery she went and asked other tables if they was ok- and STILL kept us eating with hands. Raised the matter and was offered nothing to rectify. Crap food. Crap service, crap place.

This place is great! Atmosphere is chill and cool and the staff are also really friendly. They know what they’re doing and you can tell making the customers happy is their main priority. Food is pretty good, great price and it’s 100% worth it. Also felt anxious about going due to Covid but I felt so safe. Will be returning x

Had a great visit. We were a little nervous as our first outing out because of covid. We felt very safe. Staff were so kind and helpfull. The manager explained the new system and he was informative and very friendly. Food was great. We could not fault it. Will return.

Went for a meal in the evening, booked a table over phone due to the ongoing COVID problems Staff greeted us at door and explained restrictions due to new rules and either order over app or table service available, we both enjoyed our food and staff were very helpful regarding drinks refills etc. Well worth another visit - recommend

Had a lovely meal out today, very impressed with both the food & service. The waitress was very attentive she couldn’t do enough for us! Even with the new restrictions the Staff did a great job to make me and my family feel safe.

Would not recommend coming for dinner at This restaurant!Some staff were very rude! And my visit was not great!Was made to feel stupid and very embarrassed when questioned about my mothers exception to wearing a mask as she has a disability!The women on the front door was unprofessional and had a horrible attitude with us! Then when our food came out the waitress was very disrespectful and rude. We will not be returning to the restaurant until the have learned some manners. And customer service skills!

Meal was excellent (carvery), carver was very well mannered and polite, service brilliant, only criticism there seemed to be two sets of rules as who I presume was a supervisor as he was dressed differently seemed to take his mask off when he felt like it especially when behind the bar and he should be more presentable, his shirt was not tucked in and walked around with destain in my view.

Had a really nice carvery here today whilst working in the area, food was well prepared and looked and tasted spot on , staff really nice 👍, highly recommended 💚

Had lunch at Squire York on 7th September can't fault the food or staff every one was so polite and helpful thank you all at Squire York.

Went to today for lunch. It didn't seem to be at all busy but we had to wait a long time for our food. My daughter and I had ordered Lasagne with salad. Unfortunately the lasagne was so badly burn round the edges we couldn't even cut it! My husband ordered salmon. It was still raw and frozen in the middle! We had to send all three meals back. We again had to wait a long time. Eventually my daughter and I got a completely new meal and it was fine. My husband received the same meal but this time it was cooked properly. Thankfully the other 4 members of our party were happy with their meals. However we were very disappointed and won't be returning, which is a shame as it is one of our nearest pubs that sells food.

My wife and her friend visited for lunch on 2nd day of re-opening. They invariably have the carvery but as the chancellor had kindly given 50% discount they ate from the main menu. My wife had Bombay Bird which is a chicken burger meal and the other lady had a steak. Within an hour of eating my wife was vommiting on 6 occasions followed by diarrhea on 9 times culminating in an unfortunate incident in bed in the middle of the night. The other lady had no problems.During the evening I phoned the venue to advise them of my wife's predicament in case anyone else had a similar problem. I was not looking for any recompense. I was told that her sitaution could not have been caused by what she had eaten but the lady wished her a speedy recovery. We have eaten there many times before with no problem but not likely to revisit again.

Went here for dinner last August, family of 4, had vouchers, so made even better value. Fish n chips great meal.

Would like to say a massive thank you to Adrian from the squire yorke. He went above and beyond to help us on Friday. He was so polite and respectful to my dad. He even popped over to check everything was ok. What an asset to your company.

My wife is a vegan and can be quite hard to please went to the Squire the staff were friendly and very helpful. Adrian sorted out my wifes tricky requirements without a fuss. Will return. lovely quality food and great service.

As a regular customer am becoming increasingly concerned at the lack of consistency of food. Have had some really good meals particularly the steaks but on last visit was served a burger and fries which were virtually inedible.

We have been here many times and it has always been lovely, but last night I went with my husband and 8 year old for my birthday and it was absolutely disgusting.Even the steak knife they gave couldn't cut the steak! It really really was bad! It tasted disgusting so after two pieces that I managed to cut and eat was awful so I left it! My chips tastes disgusting! My tomato tastes like oily fish!I was so gutted i left nearly all of my meal and I wouldn't have even taken the steAk home for my dog because it was that bad!The staff looked as if they needed a good wash! They looked filthy!Dreadful place and disappointing as it was my birthday meal!I was starving and I had to stop off for a take away because I hadn't eaten!We will NOT return .

Visited here recently for a family meal. The carvery was excellent. There was lots of choice and the vegetables were so fresh. Everything was cooked to perfection!! The Carver that served us was an absolute gentleman. Very polite and friendly. My youngest son was delighted that the carver let him have a portion of the turkey skin... His favourite!!! as well as his meat. Well done Squire Yorke. Will be returning very soon...Would highly recommend..
