My son and I were travelling through Wales last week and stopped at the Green Dragon for some food.
We were met with a wonderfully warm Welsh welcome.
The food was excellent and great value.
The place has a great atmosphere with a quirky antiquities shop attached, where you could browse and pick up an item of yesteryear.
There is a lovely fireplace, sadly not lit when we visited, but I could imagine whiling away a few hours in front of the fire in winter.
Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

I am giving 5 stars to the doner kebabs in pitta bread with lettuce, onions, sweet chilli sauce, mint yogurt and pickles on the side - our naughty “once in a while” family treat that is very, very good 😊
Christmas lunch 2023, £90 per head. Utter disappointment and a truly Fawlty Towers-esque experience. We had to laugh as it was Christmas Day but it was really awful. No one in reception, sign saying go to the bar. No one in the bar, eventually found a passing member of staff and we were directed to where Christmas lunch was happening. Through a door with a large sign saying ‘toilets’ past a kitchen set up and into what I assume is their banqueting space. We managed to catch someone’s eye and rather than being shown to our table we were waved in the general direction and had to please ourselves.
After ten minutes of just sitting there I had to get up and ask a nearby waitress to take our drinks order. She seemed a little bit surprised we wanted drinks… Eventually some drinks arrived but it would take four more times asking for some water for the table before it came. Starters came out eventually and were fine. We then thought it would be nice to have some wine….
Me- could we have some wine please?
Waitress- ………..
Me- do you have a wine list?
Waitress- …..not really a wine list no…… what were you thinking of…….
Me- maybe some white wine? Nice and dry? Maybe something from New Zealand?
Waitress- erm…. I think we have a Pinot?? I don’t know about wine, I’m the wedding planner…..
Me- ok let’s try the Pinot…
Screw top of Italian Pinot Grigio plonked on the table and three glasses plonked down upside down…..
By this point we really needed the wine!
Mains were served, plated turkey dinner. We wait patiently for the dish of veg seen in the middle of all the other tables. It doesn’t arrive. I catch the eye of the waitress and enquire…. In her words ‘hmmm, they have run out of veg and there’s no more. I’m not sure what the plan is….’ No apology, nil, nada.
Not five mins later we see veg sailing out to other tablets. At this point not even the wine is enough to soothe and we managed to ask the only sensible member of staff in the place, who magics up some veg asap.
I could go on but I won’t. What the experience lacked in terms of service, it make up for in sheer comedy value but was daylight robbery for what we actually had.
Hey ho!
Update- very kindly the venue read my review and got back to me directly without me having to chase. They kindly refunded the cost of a bottle of wine and £15 per head. To be clear, the food was fine, I think we expected a little more for the price though, maybe a glass of fizz on arrival, coffee and petit fours after the meal etc. Kelly was fab on the day and when replying. The rest of the service was poor as described as above.
I had a flat white and an espresso here, both of which I found a bit underwhelming.
Firstly, the espresso had absolutely no crema. It seems like they were using very old beans. It tasted extremely bitter to the point of being undrinkable.
Sadly, the flat white was not far behind. Too much air was added to the milk, leaving big bubbles in it as opposed to microfoam. I don't think the barista had much training on using the machine (though, hopefully, she will improve over time!)
We were staying close by for a walking holiday. The pub was cosy and very friendly. The pizza nights were excellent too on a Wednesday and Friday. We were made so welcome by the great landlord and hope to come back again
First time ordering from Baba Ali’s today. The lads were incredibly friendly to everyone who came in and had our large order ready very quickly and even gave us a large bottle of pop on the house which was very kind. The food was really good too, 1 chicken burger, 3 beef burger, chicken donor and garlic bread, all hot and really nice! Will definitely order from you again- thank you ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wow, what a meal. Possibly 1 of the best Indian meals we've had.
Friendly phone & server staff, with beautiful food to match.
Fresh ingredients which was perfectly balanced with every mouthful. Hot , tasty and worth every penny.
THANK YOU FOR AN EXCELLENT MEAL
Quick call in for a drink and a sit in the sun whilst book hunting. Lovely clean pub, menu looked lovely although did not eat on visit. Sure, to be a busy place during holiday seasons. Clean toilets. Seating in and outdoors. Staff friendly and service fine.
We only stopped by for a drink, so I can only comment on that part of the business. Beer selection could be better. Nice atmosphere. Tables outside. Very friendly member of staff serving. Clean toilets. 👍🏻
We had a very enjoyable meal. My husband had the steak and ale pie. I had the chicken curry. The Wye Valley beer is very good. Roger is a welcoming host. Service friendly and efficient..
We were their first evening customers in the restaurant, a good menu, simple easy pub food which we enjoyed, a tad expensive, £4.20 for a can of Guinness 00 and £19 for Pie of the day, but it was full of meat and tasty gravy with a flaky pastry lid.
Lois served us and managed the bar, she was friendly and provided great service.
