Green Dragon in Powys

My son and I were travelling through Wales last week and stopped at the Green Dragon for some food. We were met with a wonderfully warm Welsh welcome. The food was excellent and great value. The place has a great atmosphere with a quirky antiquities shop attached, where you could browse and pick up an item of yesteryear. There is a lovely fireplace, sadly not lit when we visited, but I could imagine whiling away a few hours in front of the fire in winter. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Had always been told this place did amazing food and happened to plan a Sunday dinner with my family and chose the green dragon and wasn't disappointed beautiful yummy really enjoyed it my son even ventured out and tried something new and loved it definitely will be back

A458- its even got a sign saying food ! posted on the other road -Oswestry to Welshpool- we went to the The Breidden in Middletown instead- spent over £30 -TOO

We called in for Sunday lunch on the 30/6/24. I had messaged before hand to check it was ok. Both Tommy & Shaz were very welcoming. We both had the roast Pork Sunday lunch served with roast potatoes new potatoes carrots broccoli cauliflower cheese and big Yorkshire pudding & gravy served separately. For dessert I had a Biscotti ice cream Sunday which was delicious & my partner had the crumb of the day Apple & Damson with custard. It’s a great quirky pub with an antique shop in it which my partner Andy had great pleasure in looking round and buying an old bar pump which he has been after. It’s also a campsite & has glamping pods too. Am sure we will be back for a visit. Shaz is very knowledgeable about the local history.

We had a Good weekend with a small group of my biker mates, Tommy & Shaz was great hosts, small camping areas but nicely positioned, basic amenities / facilities reference camping in tents , Sunday dinner was top notch, thumbs up 👍

Just got back from a two night biker camping trip at this lovely little campsite. Be prepared to be spoiled. Tommy and Shaz have hospitality down to fine art. They and their staff are very attentive, the Sunday roast is top notch and the campsite is well located to set up base camp for all the local sights. I will defo be back and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the food and the accommodation.

Happened across this gem of a place on our drive home from a day out, arriving just after 8pm they finish serving food at 8pm but welcomed us in and made us very welcome, food was amazing owners / staff very friendly and accommodating, highly recommend if you’re passing this way! Very dog friendly even cooked Bailey a sausage with some gravy on, he loved it too! Will definitely be back!

Gorgeous pub, restaurant and fantastic service. Beer was excellent, and the food was top notch. Would highly recommend. We will be back for sure!

Sunday lunch! had a small wait that was explained by bar staff which were very polite and helpful. And the lunch arrived cold, how is it that it’s cold having waited for half an hour for it to be cooked !!

We arrived in the motohome for an over night stay with electric hook up. The pitch is In between the train track and a busy road but we weren't disturbed by noice. Unfortunately our pitch was too far from the electric point so we had no hook up during the evening as the other pitches were taken. However we did move pitch in the morning and were allowed to stay on site longer while everything charged up. We had the Sunday lunch in the bar. On paper it looked on the dearer side but once the food arrived it was worth every penny. Great Sunday lunch. Good value and a hearty sized portion. Just what was needed to fuel the next leg of the Lejog journey we are on. I would recommend this site for a one night stay. No problem.

This was a second visit to the Green Dragon Inn. It was quite busy, but we were seated immediately. We had really attentive service and the food was excellent. Well done to all.

This has to be the worst place I have ever eaten! We arrived 10 minutes before they stopped serving food and were given a table for two. The staff and our waitress were lovely and very friendly but that could not make up for the quality of the food that was served. The starter of garlic mushrooms was served with stale bread and the chicken wings were average. However, when we were given our main course, I have never tasted a burger so bad, the chips were cold and the coleslaw was off!!! The burger was disgusting and inedible and I don't think the Chef has ever heard of seasoning! We should have guessed that it was going to be bad as when we went outside to sit in the garden we were sat opposite a table with a couple on that had complained and the Chef had come out and asked them to leave the premises!! I would never set food in this pub again to eat or to have a drink as it is a disgrace!!

Nice little pub with friendly staff good beer and freshly cooked food good variety on the menu definitely worth a visit

Best place I’ve stopped in a long time just got back from a couple of nights in the glamming pod it was lovely the food in the pub was spot on and my dog was treated so well even brought him out a sausage while we ate will definitely be back for another stay

Tommy and Shaz were very warm and accommodating, we had a carvery and it was delicious! We camped for the night and it was very reasonably priced they even gave us 2 fresh eggs for our brekkie! We struggled to book a taxi into town and they very generously gave us a lift. Couldn't recommend this place more. Tranquil surroundings and wonderful hosts!!

CAMPERS BEWARE. Arrived yesterday afternoon after a day on the Offa’s Dyke Path. Pub was closed, I assumed post lunch. Spent an hour in the garden and then a ‘caretaker’ appeared and very curtly told me that I’d have to camp elsewhere, which I then did as it wasn’t opening. I returned the following morning to quietly make myself a coffee at their picnic tables and soon the same man appeared and was abusive and extremely unpleasant (f***ing campers). Moreover the camping field is next to a very busy A road down which HGVs thundered through the night. Suggest the site in Welshpool instead. AVOID.

Looked for the nearest place to our accommodation and glad we picked here.lovely little homely pub with great decor. We ordered 3 tapas dishes as the kids wanted Macdonald's so I picked tapas for myself. Had belly pork, nachos and cod bites. All lovely, hot , fresh and tasty. My kids ended up eating the nachos which were delicious. The chef gave us some more as we said how lovely they were. Staff super friendly and will definitely come again if we are up this way.

Great find, booked a table before our hike. Ran a little bit late due to myself getting us lost haha. The couple who run the restaurant are really what hospitality is all about! This charming Inn is situated on the site of a Dark-Age battle fought between the Saxons and a large Viking raiding force, the Battle of Buttington featured on ITV's Fishlock's Wales. The ale and meats supplied at the Green Dragon would be appreciated by such warriors for the quality is excellent. There are a range of lovely home-cooked and locally sourced ingredients and the service and fairly priced food makes it an excellent place to eat for locals and travelers alike.

We called here tonight the food was tasty and reasonably priced and plenty of it will be calling again.

Went here today. Passing through on way back from Wales.I asked if there was a table available for sunday lunch to who I thought was a barman. He said to just wait whilst as needed to check. I called in for a Saturday afternoon meal, and was very pleasantly surprised. The last time I called her, was many years ago , and I wasn’t very impressed , and I must say, it is well improved.

We went to this pub for an evening meal after being told that dogs were allowed in the bar area. There was one member of staff behind the bar covering both the lounge and public bar. I waited 20 minutes to order a drink while he took food orders from the lounge side and answered the phone. I have never before been told that, "the bookings have priority." I asked if I couldn't just get a drink before he went to answer the phone again. Four people came in behind me and left after waiting to be served for10 minutes. I eventually ordered the chicken korma, this was a small portion with korma, rice and something that was supposed to be naan. There were no chutneys. One of the others in my group had chicken which was tough and undercooked. We left very disappointed and I have to say I felt quite angry.

Called on off chance of having Sunday dinner, carpark was extremely busy... WOW so glad we stopped, staff made room for us even though most tables were reserved.

I visited with my sister and husbands. Stopped for an evening meal whilst travelling to Aberystwyth. We were originally only having a loo stop, but after seeing the menu decided to have a meal. The staff were very friendly even made time to stop and chat with us. Our drinks order was taken and delivered to our table. I ordered the fish pie which was lovely, my husband ordered the fish and chips but this had just run out so he opted for the steak which was very good. My sister and her husband had the faggots, which were home made and also good. We did not have a sweet as were to full. We will definitely stop here again.

Popped in on way home from wales ,lovely little place.Full of character and warm looking .very cosy and would be lovely in the winter .Food was served very quickly and was piping hot.which was a bonus.I had beef which was a bit dry but edible.gravy was a little to thin for me ,I should of asked for a gravy boat as I like my Yorkshire pudding crispy and was soaked in gravy. So I’m driving home from Barmouth on a Sunday and it’s 11:45. I turn to the wife and say “let’s go for dinner before we get home” Then I realise the Green Dragon is only a few miles away.

We had a couple of Sunday roast dinners, one turkey, one nut roast, tired and hungry after walking a stretch of Offa's Dyke Path. Both meals were very good (home cooking). the open fire was also welcome as it was a cold day. The service was excellent and welcoming. I rarely write reviews but felt in this case I ought to in order to express our thanks.

Visited this pub several times on a Sunday and always great but this place has gone downhill. Not home cooked as stated to be. Plaice was absolutely disgraceful, no content. Love of food has been lost.

We called in on a Saturday lunchtime for lunch, pub is traditional and pleasant inside and there was a good selection of hot meals. There were quite a few people dining although if the pub had been full the one chap serving behind the bar, taking food orders and serving food may have struggled to do it all. The food was good, served fresh and hot and we will visit again.
