Why offer smoothies and ice teas when your staff obviously don’t want to serve them Was not only shocked but disappointed by the very rude member of staff that approached me Such a. Beautiful place such a shame this guys attitude was so ugly !!! Told me I didn’t need to have a table if I was only ordering smoothies I was in fact going to order breakfast for me and my daughter When I asked for the menu he snapped at me Do you want food or drinks and also said no smoothies as machines broke Perhaps the sign should be taken in !! At that point I walked out never to return I wonder how many other people walked out with his attitude Absolutely awful

What a lovely place! The atmosphere is really nice, and the staff were friendly even on a busy Saturday. The food was great—I had a jacket potato, and they didn’t skimp on the toppings (which I love!). Service was fast, and the building itself is charming. Also, the chia latte was fantastic. I appreciate that they serve the White Americano with milk on the side rather than mixed in—perfect for those who like to customize. Plus, it’s a welcoming spot for both dogs and kids. Will definitely be back!

Known of this place for many years and decided to try it. Notices around to ensure you don't miss the step which runs down (near) one side of the restaurant/cafe. Despite the notices, I consider it and health and safety issue. My husband had a slice of sponge which looked dried to me, he said it was okay (to use a word nice). We had a coffee each in small class mugs. Coffee not filled to the top but the froth over ran the mugs, spilling down the side and over the tray. It tasted okay but have had better. Don't think we'll bother going back.

We hadn’t planned our day and were very hungry so The Granary was the first place we walked into. The menu was expensive - £13 for spicy beans on toast and £17 for an open beef sandwich, £10 for a jacket potato with one filling, £12 for two fillings. Our lunch arrived with a very smiley and friendly waitress! The food was ok. Just ok. The spicy beans on toast was a large portion which was nice but it came with a very undercooked poached egg which when I poked, egg snot came out. I didn’t eat it. The open beef sandwich was one piece of bread, not sure whether we expected two or not but with salad and coleslaw it didn’t match the price tag. It was very tasty though, just really overpriced. It was cold in the cafe, we kept our coats on. Overall our lunch was fine, expensive for what it was and we wouldn’t return.

Dreadful food, grumpy staff, dirty toilets, expensive food, the list goes on ! I had chunky vegetable soup with bruscetta and cheese. The soup looked like it came out of a tin, no flavour, very bland, not chunky at bruscetta was a tiny end piece with some cheese sprinkled on top floating on the soup. My food arrived 10 minutes after my very weak tea had arrived and my partners food arrived 10 minutes after mine. Very disappointing experience, shall not be back

Stood waiting to order from a dwindling menu. There was a notice to say that there hadn’t been a delivery. The ‘owner’ was in the kitchen complaining that she had no bread… no this no that. Service was incredibly slow and we watched the ‘owner’ stand at the serving hatch complaining that they had run out…… While anyone can run low on stock, there is a supermarket that could have been used to restock the essentials. Yes it’s more expensive but certainly better than lost custom. Standing in the hatchway complaining does not help the business.

Really overpriced. We ordered 2 spaghetti bolognaise, fishcakes, steak open sandwich, 2 soft drinks and a tea and coffee and paid £78.50. For what we had it was terrible. The only acceptable meal was the fishcakes. The spaghetti bolognaise (£18) was full of water on the plates and small portions. The steak open sandwich had 1 small slice of thin beef on it (£17). It took ages to come, and the spaghetti bolognaise x 2 arrived way after the other two items. Really poor. Almost £80 for lunch and most of us went home hungry. Would definitely not recommend.

Spag Bol at £19 per head was small and watery. ‘Steak’ sandwich (£18) had two wafer thin small slices on top. Meal for four (1 item each plus 1 drink) was almost £80. Definitely not recommended. My partner and I have visited the Granery two years running each time we visit Hay. In our trip in 2023 we were blown away by their food and went back many times incredibly pleased with the quality of the food. However, in our most recent trip this was not the same. My partner had the beef open sandwich which was okay, but had far too much salad and veg compared to meat, to top this off my partner then fell very sick with food poisoning the following morning from this meal. We believe the salad, coleslaw and fermented carrots were out of date. We did message the granary on instagram but have still heard nothing back. The way you place your order was way too long, with a long que to the front door and around the place other diners come to get water. It may be that it is a way to let the kitchen keep up, but they should figure out another system. Also, when you place your order, the one member of staff then made the drinks before serving the next person, which, again, made the wait even longer. Some of us ordered leek & potato soup whereas I picked sweet potato & ginger. It was all fresh and OK but nothing special (like things used to be) and there was a sizeable gap between each bowl arriving. The accompanying bread rolls seemed to have come from the supermarket. Came here with the family a few days before Christmas for the 3 course set menu. The scallops for starters were fantastic. The main and deserts were very good. Lively atmosphere as it was Christmas celebrations so was quite difficult to converse. Still would highly recommend and shall be visiting again.

I thought that £15 for a roast beef sandwich was a touch expensive. I WAS WRONG. A slice of rye bread with a mountain of fabulous salads on top with terrific dressing. Then FIVE slices of beautifully cooked, tender and tasty roast beef. It was WONDERFUL and the others were delighted with their smoked salmon and falafel plates.

So disappointing. Food was a little pricey but we accepted that as we were in Hay. However, a smile costs nothing. The service was indifferent at best. While there were less than 10 people in the cafe, we had to wait 30 mins for a bacon roll and eggs on toast. Which arrived 15 minutes apart. When I asked why, I just got a weak ‘sorry’. The people on the table next to us also had their food delivered in dribs and drabs. One of the cooks wandered out to put out some napkins and moaned that she was cold. No customer care or attention to detail.

Avoid at all costs. Dirty bathroom, sticky tables uncleared and very rude staff. The food isn’t good value for money either. The place needs a deep clean, some decent staff and a new menu

Food is good but getting far to expensive, I use to go regularly, each week, but I've not been since 1 sausage roll cost £1.30,,,,4 bites and it's gone

Surprised to read some of the reviews on here. Great little find on camper van app, we called and emailed and had positive replies. We stayed in our van on our travels in the carpark, great peaceful night with not a lot of lighting, had good Ale on tap (Doom Bar) and had a great steak and fish tea. Great service and friendly staff, it wasn’t too busy for a Saturday but in the current climate and its rural location isn’t this to be expected. We are planning another local walk in the new year and will be back

The dining experience here is always amazing. The staff are friendly, and will banter with you/ make you feel welcome. The hot drinks are insanely good and the atmosphere is everything you want from a café. The vibe during Christmas was magical, it's lovely to visit a café in which the staff seem so eager to help, and go out of their way to decorate it in a homely way. My only complaint is that it is too expensive; I do understand that the quality is higher than many places, and the staff are clearly deserving of high pay, but during a cost of living crisis paying nearly £10 for cake/ biscuit and coffee is not something that I feel like I regularly want to do. There is the app which can give some great reductions, but the offers don't last forever, and without them it's high prices. When it comes to a treat out, there is no better place than Costa..it is an incredible experience. However, there are certainly more reasonable places in town.

Lovely little family pub has a range of Alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. Also has ample outdoor and indoor seating with a lovely beer garden to the side and rear of the pub. The offer a small private hire space that also leads out onto the beer garden. Would recommend to families.
