Just got back from the Clock Works which is only five minutes drive from our Cottages. The Staff are always super friendly, cheerful and very obliging. Nothing is too much trouble. The restaurant is spacious and spotless . It has lovely outside space with tables and parasols with views to the Pant eg mountain . There's a designated area for small children with swing and slide. All the outside areas are clean and well maintained. Unfortunately the family restaurant tone has been significantly lowered by the introduction of two fruit machines. It's a restaurant not Las Vegas! Our meal was like the Curates egg. Good in parts.My tip to the Chef : Sirloin needs pounding with a Chef's hammer to tenderise the meat. Quickly cooked for three minutes in the pan or grilled. My steak was like trying to chew shoe leather. The chips were over cooked and stuck in the throat.The chocolate fudge dessert with ice cream was microwaved to within an inch of its life and was of a plastic consistency. I waded my way through it. The bill was almost £60 which included drinks. I don't recommend the restaurant but as a place to relax with a glass of wine or a beer it's fine

It is so nice to go back to the Clockworks in Ystradgynlais, this has always been a regular place to eat for me and my family but it changed hands approximately a year ago and it was awful so we stopped going there. We are pleased to have it back and the food was beautiful.

While staying in wales, went for a bite to eat. The waitress was called Cherish. Very friendly, polite and helpful. The service was fantastic. The food was excellent. Definitely will be going again.

We've been coming here for a long time, and value the friendly family atmosphere, but a few days ago I was served a hunters chicken..... straight from the fridge! No exaggeration, the chicken piece was stone cold. I'm worried about how this could happen and can't risk my family getting sick from under-cooked food. I may try you again in a few months, but in the meantime we're using the Pen y cai inn.

I gave the Clockworks 5 stars for everything about 3 years ago. Unfortunately, on my last visit I ordered hunters chicken and when it arrived, the chicken piece was so cold I thought it had just come out of the fridge! Although the staff happily replaced it for me, I received no discount but more to the point I'm very worried how they can serve someone a stone cold chicken piece without realising it. If they can explain how this occurred (and reassure me it won't re-occour) I'll come back.

Credit where due , as returned customers here after a absence, it is once again a pleasure to say that the meal all 4 of us had this evening was incredible. thank you for a pleasurable experience.

Really impressed with menu choices and variations available, as well as special offers on the night. The drinks range is also immense! Staff always very courteous and happy to help rectify little oroblems experienced. Food served promptly and was delicious. Definitely be returning (soon).

Place was nice and cosy. Friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere. The ultimate chicken burger was very tasty. Will definitely be back

Menu choice is extensive and caters for all, food was lovely and staff were so friendly and helpful. Would definately recommend and will be returning very soon 😀

We were served by a lovely lady called Poppy. She was very polite and helpful making sure we had no allergies or any special dietary needs. The food arrived quickly and was fresh and hot. Well presented. Poppy came back to make sure there was nothing else we needed. Thoroughly enjoyed and will definitely return

Great except for a dog in the restaurant

Online it says kitchen is closed at 9pm when i went to place an order at 8:30pm they said it was closed.

We tried to book online but received only automated response not confirmation but were still found a table. Food to a much better standard than last time I visited. And bonus of listening to live music

The clockworks is one of the only places locally where there is a children's play area. This is so useful for us. This means we can enjoy a good family meal and the children can be entertained without having to resort to screens. There are not many places locally that have this facility.

Great pub so much better since new management has taken over. Food was lovely good portion sizes friendly atmosphere and lovely staff.

Had a fabulous meal last night. Everything was cooked to perfection. Staff were polite and chatty. It's definitely better with the new manager. Family friendly again.

Excellent experience at the clock works, staff were good, food was tasty and arrived in a decent time! My step dad has a lot of allergies and the staff were super accommodating making it an easy visit for us :)

Stopped here for lunch, the staff were great, the food was nice and at an affordable price.

Was not a good experience 3 of us and put on a table for 2 seat placed in a this wall way getting hit by everyone going past no room on table for food and drinks took 15 mins to find someone to find out where our table was then squished in took 15 mins to order food as took 2 bar staff to make 2 coffees for customer before me food not on menu food was OK but the garlic bread was raw we didn't want to stay as it was not comfortable at all only good thing was bluey for my grandson

We tried for the 1st time this evening. The pub decor is fab and the staff are lovely. They all seemed a little stressed and overwhelmed though? Not sure if they were short staffed or not? The food was lovely but for the price the portion sizes was small. Only a few chips and my partner paid £12 for a mix grill no peas as a side and about 10 chips. My daughter had a kids meal and I'm not joking when I say there was about 10 baked beans as her side. I went to order desserts to find they didn't have the cheesecake I wanted and they wouldn't do the calzone dessert as the pizza oven isn't on on Sundays!?.... Overall I would go again but I wouldnt pay full price again for main meals or go on a Sunday! Id probably go when they have a cheap deal on the mains as portion sizes don't Warrent paying full price. Can't fault the staff though dispite being rushed off there feet they were really friendly.

We have visited the clock works many times but we feel the last coupe of time was exceptional for and staff was different ones and went abound and behond

The Clockworks had a good amount of parking. The pub was clean and bright. All the tables were clean and had menus. It was easy to order both on the qr code and in person. The food was delicious and better than either of us expected. The staff were friendly and professional. The toilets were clean and well stocked. Over all a lovely pub, we will be back.

Family of 5, booked in advance. Friendly staff, our waitress was amazing! Gemma was friendly, looked after all of us and went the extra mile for our children. Food was delicious, wine was great and the children loved the colouring in sets and play area. Highly recommended

5pm was a good choice as it was not packed

Clockworks is Ystradgynlais’ most accessible restaurant, built on the site of the Old ‘TikTok’ Cloxk factory, now home to Tesco. Across the road the red brick volunteer centre framed against a breathtaking panoramic crag of Hiraeth. Sophie joined me for elevenses, we coffeed and talked of the stars. I went for the Bangers &mash, she feeling emotive opted for fishcakes a tatŵs smashio Da iawn. She said. Bendegedeg. I smiled a three eyed wink. We returned. Our Time Machine works. Cariad!

Waited 40 minutes for drinks, after food had been served, no apology. Portion size was small, drinks unimpressive when they finally arrived. Will not be returning

Had an amazing experience here! Took the kids and I’ll say!! They were full and tired! Banging for your buck! Kids were full! So was I! Only cost me £30! 11/10 for the pizzas! Thank you to the boys with mullets that made my day!

Me and the partner popped over after visiting family! We had the starters a share meals. I MUST know how to make the nacho sharer! Incredible. The pint was also very much needed! Thank you 🙏 the staff were so helpful and patient for an indecisive gal like me! ❤️

Our server Ian greeted us well and food was outstanding, Ian made good conversation and made me and my partner feel very comfortable.

The experience of this pub was one of the best places I have ate at.The food was incredible the burger tastes amazing. I 100% recommend.

Luke warm food, half of menu not on menu,staff warm and friendly, poor portions, all food different temperature, price not worth it, booking again lol 😆

It was my partner's birthday so we went for our evening meal. Being the festive season, we chose the festive menu. I ordered the burger and sticky toffee pudding and my partner ordered the turkey roast and lemon tart. My dinner was really nice, but my partner's... Her turkey looked like it had dried and been microwaved and tasted of metal/plastic and was drier than turkey should ever be. I know they say that turkey is often dry, but this was like leather and it had curled, much like dry leather does. The mashed potatoes were instant mash, and completely unseasoned and honestly, unpalatable. The roast potatoes where still white and even drier than the turkey. Most of the veg was over cooked and again unpalatable. All things considered, the turkey dinner was appalling! She left at least 70% after managing to fight her way through to find something that was worth eating, then gave up. The manager wisely gave us a discount on the cost of the meal, and at least her dessert was ok. It wasn't a good way to start our evening's celebrations with my meal being quite good and her's being inedible. To be honest, I think it could have been a microwave dinner that was opened a day or two ago, heated, not wanted and then reheated again for my partner. Whether it was or not, it was awful and we have experienced far better from there in the past. If not for that, we wouldn't ever go back.

Staff and management went above and beyond today ( Christmas day ) The 3 course set menu for Christmas dinner was so good, I almost felt ashamed to empty my cockney guts when I got home, just wanted to savour the flavour

57 quid for 4 people (including drinks ) We had: tika, gammon, fish and chips and a mixed grill

Food was OK at best. Very small portions and way over priced. I'm sorry to say that we won't be returning to eat or drink at the clock house again as the food let down what should have been a birthday celebration. If friends ask for my opinion about the clock house my honest answer would be, if you like paying over the odds for standard food then its the pub for you, if not then avoid

Absolutely lovely place and the staff are always friendly and helpful too and the toilets are always clean as well! Nice family Atmosphere a d also fab for parties 🎉

We visited this restaurant for a 10-year-old’s birthday with a party of nine and were thoroughly disappointed. Despite the restaurant being relatively quiet, it took over 50 minutes for our food to arrive. To make matters worse, we were told an item had run out, yet other tables that arrived after us were served it. When the food eventually arrived, it was dreadful. The chips were still frozen in places, dishes that should have been grilled looked anaemic, and one meal was missing an item entirely. The overall quality was extremely poor. The only saving grace was the garlic dough balls, but even they weren’t enough to salvage the experience. I sensed the staff realised it was poor but were still willing to serve it. I realise this must be a kitchen issue but management should not be allowing such an experience. The waiter offered a free drink/dessert to the person missing their item but by then it was already too late. We just wanted to leave. It's been a long time since I've seen so much food left on a table, and we all had different meals so that speaks volumes. Very poor all round – I won’t be returning.

The service we received was second to none. As friends we get together for a Christmas meal every year and the staff made it really special! Tracey Stead, John, Lucy and Jasmin could not do enough to make sure that our get together was fantastic. Although I don’t think Tracey was not even working, she went out of her way to look after us. Thank you all - really do appreciate the afternoon you have given us!

Unfortunately, I've never had a good experience here since it opened. The front of house staff have always been very pleasant and appoliglic, I guess they get plenty of practice. The problem is definitely management or total lack of. It's just such a disappointment. Lack of pride.

Shout out to Jasmine and Tracey who served us tonight, I had the meat lovers pizza with added chicken and jalapeños and banoffee tart for dessert, Pizza was cooked to perfection and the banoffee tart was that nice I had to have 2, Great way to relax after a busy weekend on call. Thanks guys 😀 xXx

ordered three meals and three drinks, they gave me 2 drinks at the bar but took an hour for the tea to come. Food was nice but took more than an hour to arrive. Ordered a leek and tomato soup and they gave me a tomato soup. Food was nice but not worth the wait

Attended a party, nice buffet and occasion with friends.

Was and still is a lovely place to go for food and drinks if you want to also the food did take a little while to come out but it was worth the wait absolutely loved the food.

Although they have limited staff I 've thoroughly enjoyed the experience 10 out of 10 was welcomed by Lucy she was very kind and the atmosphere in here is so much better. Because I have limited mobility lucy helped me by bringing me everything I needed with a smile will definitely going back

Went here to celebrate passing my course and it was excellent the food was magnificent I had this chicken burger which I really enjoyed my server was absolutely amazing she was very polite and respectful her name was Lucy she was very professional and was there for anything we needed.

Wend for drinks and a bite with friends food was good jasmine couldn’t help more with drinks and recommendations on cocktails. I did have to get my ID dropped down as I forgot it but had a mocktail while I waited

The staff are absolute stars. Very kind, helpful, and welcoming. No fault there. However, the food is hit n' miss. We only come because it's convenient and nice but the food is like a game of roulette. I ordered the "Meat Lovers " pizza, and I gotta say there's not a whole lot of meat or love. Compare this pizza to the other shown in the photos it's night and day. £13 for this? I can get handmade for less just down the road. Refunded and sat there and nimble on my partner burger, which I'll say was good.

Had a fab evening with my husband last night , one of the staff I believe was called Tracy was very helpful and very welcoming , overall we had a great meal and experience at this pub 🤗

Came here for Sunday dinner myself and my friend as we couldn’t get in anywhere else! The dinner was cold and tasteless, seems like it was chucked together and all frozen food! I will never eat here again and I advise others to eat elsewhere

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE ! There was hair on my food . I asked for the ‘mega mixed grill ‘ to be well done everything was under done , it was vile wouldn’t recommend eating here

Kyle the assistant manager clockworks refuses to refund a whole meal when the supervisor said they would refund because the steak x 2 was very rare/more well done now they said the replacement of chicken is good enough & not the refund the chef/assistant manager agreed the steak was medium rare, not at one point the chef or assistant manager came to ask if we would want the steak more rare the General Paul wouldn't have done this I am raising a complaint to head office I will not eat here again even with 25% discount absolutely shocked by the poor experience/service 😱😱😱😱😱😱

Absolutely what you'd expect. Seats that are uncomfortable after an hour so you eat up and get out, affordable okay pub grub and the usual brands behind the bar. This could be anywhere.

Was one of our favourite places to visit for a meal & drink. New owners who have dropped standards. Food ordered came out wrong had to order at the bar changed to no table service. Drinks ordered were forgotten had to go to bar to ask where they were. This is the 2nd time we have visited since new owners definitely won’t be going again.

We used to come here all the time, real regulars but avoided it like the plague after it turned rough and chaotic. We heard that the management and those accompanying them have finally (thankfully!!) left so we gave it another try today. We are so happy to say good old Clock Works is back to how it used to be! Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere, delicious food. It’s so nice to see it back to how it was, especially the professional, friendly staff. We will become regulars again for sure.

I havent been here for over a year after a bad experience. I decided to take my 2 grandchildren after school yesterday,as heard new management have taken over. I was so impressed, it was lovely and warm, staff were so friendly & food was delicious. Will definitely be back.
