Saw some reviews and took the family. Bad mistake. Service was ok. Not very friendly. Drinks ordered ok. The meal. 4 meals only one was eaten. The Chips were not cooked. The Veg Burger was like rock. The Veg Curry was tasteless. All the Dips were tasteless. In the end we walked after paying and left the food. Would not recommend.

Food very disappointing. Beer battered cod looked like a burnt flat fish and triple cooked chips looked like they were triple cooked at least 3 times. The sizzling fajitas tasted like sweet and sour chinese and were swimming in a sickly sauce, that contained far more peppers than chicken. The accompanying dips including the guacamole were definitely all from jars/bottles and the tortillas were stone cold. No decent sized glasses for a double G & T only small tumblers so next to no room for ice. They’d also run out of rice so couldn’t order the curry. How can you run out of rice? Won’t be back.

Visited off the cuff as last time we visited they dragged the chips from the crematorium and meals were poor. Complements to the chef on the homemade lasagne’s as they were very homemade, chunky mince, moist tomato base and full of flavour topped with real cheddar. It came complimented with half a ciabatta garlic bread which was gorgeous in taste. Other meal consisted of frozen scampi served with a side salad and fries. Why Average: 1. The service and approach with customers 2. Excuses of poor quality blaming the rain and moisture in potatoes for poor quality chips. 3 serving packet purchased fries and scampi which with wages comes in at around 7.50 yet charging around £18 4. Charging for fries at homemade chips cost @ £4.50 and failing to reduce the cost. 5. Working to modify tables whilst people are eating This place could be a gold mine in the right hands where customers are made to feel welcome and listened too.

Booked a table for two with the intention of having two vegetarian nut roasts on a Sunday afternoon. Arrived to a sign on the door to say they were fully booked although hardly any of the tables were occupied. We were then told that there was only one nut roast available and no vegetarian roast potatoes! The waitress was extremely apologetic but whoever runs this place needs to get their act together. We left and were accommodated at the Three Tuns in Hay on Wye at short notice.

I was having difficulty finding a child friendly venue for a family meal - somewhere relaxed where children would not disturb other diners! The staff went to great lengths to meet my needs and I can't thank them enough for a wonderful afternoon. While the food was not quite cordon bleu it was hot, tasty and very acceptable and I think there were ten clean plates despite some rather fussy eaters! The service was excellent. Thank you to all the staff who made this such a good experience for me and my family.

Firstly the facts. A table of 4 was booked at The Old Barn for Sunday Lunch at 1pm. We arrived at ten to one. The Christmas decorations and cozy atmosphere were lovely and we sat down at our table. We ordered two starters and three of us chose the standard Sunday Lunch as a main course. The starters arrived at 1.40 and were polished off quick enough. We then waited well over 30 minutes to get the main meals and as one of our party ordered a soup and a dessert and both were unavailable, we decided not to wait any longer and left the restaurant just after 3pm. No dessert no coffee. The table alongside us staged a similar strategic retreat midway through their meal presumably for the same reason. The restaurant was at 30% capacity. The food wasn't bad but neither was it exceptional. The waiting was incredibly frustrating and unnecessary. And with a set menu and a half empty restaurant there really is no excuse. We will be voting with our feet and are unlikely to go through a repeat performance.

Great Welcome and Brilliant Service We dropped in for a quick supper before attending a wedding reception. Such a warm welcome and seated immediately in the old Barn area of the Inn. The owner is a lovely woman who spent time to tell us about the history of the building and the food was just what you would expect of piping hot, pub fare nicely presented, quick to the table and tasty. Would recommend for families, couples alike and at a sensible budget. Also very dog friendly.

Stopped en route to Pembrokeshire with my husband and teenage children. Charming, rustic, clean, with friendly staff, fast service and delicious food. Initially we thought the prices were a little steep for what we expected to be routine pub grub. HOWEVER! Pleasantly and unexpectedly surprised. Fresh, quality, delicious ingredients, huge portions and absolutely more than justified the prices charged! Lovely to be given the option to choose where we wished to sit and it is table service. Good selection of drinks available. Nothing was too much trouble. Toilets were clean and nicely presented, with relevant advice for anyone who may be feeling uneasy about unwanted attention and how to seek help. Venue is signed up to the 'Ask for Angela' scheme for this. Would definitely visit again if passing through. Definitely worth the stop for any weary travellers looking for great food, friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere :)

The food was perfect Sunday roast was on the menu between us we had a range of meats all lovely and there was a good selection of vegetables, the leeks in cheese were especially good. The staff were welcoming friendly and made the occasion extra special. We asked if we could bring dogs as we were struggling to find a sitter and were told yes no problem, fortunately we got something sorted, but good to know when we visit again they are dog friendly.

We are a family of three and visited twice in one week whilst visiting the activity centre down the road. We had a late lunch one day and a late breakfast the second time. This is not high-dining, but that's not what we were after. It is good, honest-value food in the theme of a Harvester. We were impressed with the food quality and presentation on both occasions and the staff were chatty and appeared eager to please.Of particular note was the Old Barn Burger which we all ordered and was delicious (although we all decided not to have the pulled-pork on it as per the menu) with bacon and cheese. Lust enough chips, nice little salad and little pot of coleslaw. Perfect for just 12.95. The place and atmosphere is beautiful. It was surrounded by pretty areas and the interior is so interesting and unique. Staff were pleasant and managed to squeeze us in despite not booking. We waited a good 45 mins for our food. This could well have been to do with reduced staff or the fact that a large party of about 15 had come in just before us. They did apologise. At this point we were starving, I ordered the fresh cannelloni with spinach. It was a good sized portion but it was not fresh. the garlic bread that came with it was the star of the meal. My partner ordered a sizzling prawn fajita. Now this was £15 which was more expensive than mine and consisted of two wraps, three small dipping bowls of sauce, one dipping bowl of cheese and two scoops of the prawn mix (about five prawns). Unfortunately, my partner said all he could taste was oil and burnt. It looked so impressive sizzling away when it came but when you looked at the quantity it was not filling at all. May be we went on a bad day and ordered the wrong things. We have heard loads of positive reviews so we will be willing to try again, maybe in the future.

It took an age from ordering at the bar to receiving the first of the meals (the kids were getting hungry). It’s a shame, the place has potential but everything was lack lustre, from service, sticky tables and the food itself. We didn’t stay for desserts and left disappointed. A wonderful family run pub restaurant is what we stumbled on in Brecon yesterday evening. Run by Lois from Leeds, via South Africa, you won’t get a warmer welcome in the area. The Old Barn is as the name suggests an old converted barn at its heart & when you first enter this is what greets you but you quickly see it also has the nice surprise of an extra bright & airy bolt on restaurant area that’s nearer the river. An ideal spot for the summer months & supplemented with quaint outside benches looking out on the river. All this was a bit redundant on a chilly January night but I could visualise a great experience when the sun starts to shine once we get into springtime. The pub is dog friendly & we sat with our two spaniels by the fire on this Tuesday night. I noticed they do traditional Sunday lunches which is a bonus for locals. We’d arrived early & though the place wasn’t bustling (it was Tues) we didn’t feel isolated. Lois was an easy going host & discussed the menu in detail. It is pub style but the menu is well thought out & inviting. We had starters of king prawns in a spicy oil with cheesy garlic bread, which was ridiculously tasty. The bread was cheesy one side, garlic the other. Just fantastic & if you had nothing else you’d leave with a smile. We moved on to lovely mixed grill & pork with black pudding main courses. Both real platefuls & also lovingly prepared. Lois was on hand for drink refills & we soon felt like home from home locals. She explained they’d only had ownership since March 2019 & were still imprinting their style on the place. It was Marion’s birthday & being away from home in the circs we couldn’t have chosen better. Thank you Lois!

We went to this restaurant to celebrate my fathers birthday. We had a very pleasant girl take our order, but after that it all went down hill. Our food came to the table, brought out by a couple young lads. Unfortunately I had a problem with my order , as I had chosen gammon which normally comes with chips but I had asked for new potatoes instead as i'm on a diet. I had been told that this would not be a problem. When our meal came out, my gammon came with chips. I had to ask three times before one of the waiters took my chips away and went out to the kitchen to get them replaced with the new potatoes I had ordered. They returned saying that the kitchen had run out of new potatoes !. I was offered mash as an alternative, but this was not helpful for my diet. No compensation was offered. Another in our party was coeliac, and had special chips. Unfortunately these were not cooked properly. No one came back to check that we were ok. We had to get up and find someone to order more drinks, and even then it took a while before someone came. After the meal we waited ages , and again had to get up to go to the bar to request a dessert menu. One was brought out fairly quickly , but then they failed to come and take our order. I don't think that there was anyone in charge, and the young people working need more training. Over all the food was ok, but the service was poor.

This restaurant has changed hands yet again but it is a great improvement now. The staff were friendly and the food was good. We always prefer to sit in the old barn section but there is a lovely light modern restaurant as well. I had the chicken curry and my partner had the black & blue burger. We were both very happy with our meal. There was a comprehensive menu but I think a slightly cheaper lunchtime menu would encourage more people to visit.

The pub had loads of atmosphere, the food was overpriced for the quality of what was on offer-waited bit too long for order to come-but staff were lovely and friendly.

Called in on speck and found ourselves very much in a building of two completely different halves - one half being the big old stone barn in the name - and the other a huge modern extension, with lots of bright windows ! It sits alongside a pretty little river and old stone bridge. We ordered the Hunters Chicken and the Ham, Egg and Chips. Both arrived piping hot and in mighty generous portions and where very tasty indeed. The salad accompanying mine was surprisingly good and had a lovely dressing on. The service was warm and friendly, and very efficient. Basically the winning formula here seems to be to serve lashings of tasty comfort food at very reasonable prices - it works ! Worth every penny !

We have been here for breakfast many times and have always been really pleased with it, so last Sunday we called for a roast, it was below our expectations with overcooked veg, and poor beef. We ate the meal without complaining. We will definitely be back for another breakfast, but lunch .....

Popped in here on the way from Cardigan to !dominated. Staff really helpful and friendly. Allowed to take my dog in with me, so had quick lunch. Had panini which was very good, also came with choice of chips or sweet potato fries. Very good, all the food looked good. Will definitely visit again if this way.

Drove out specially to ensure that the food would satisfy a group booked in for later in the month. We were very pleasantly surprised to find out just how good the food is, so no-one will be disappointed. The breakfast was excellent, and a special from the board was delicious. We both had a cheesecake which was good and we were informed that everything except the chocolate fudge cake is made in-house. Service was good, though the black pudding "extra" to go with the breakfast was missing - it was produced after a gentle reminder. Looking forward to a repeat visit.

Very enjoyable family lunch, thanks to the staff and facilities at The Old Barn. Easy to find, plenty of parking, light airy restaurant area(s), also a cozy bar area. They'd set up a table for 11 of us for lunch. Comprehensive menu, from light bites to full main meals. Privately owned & managed by a family team since spring 2019. Highly recommended.

We called in after a lovely Brecon Beacon walk - huge menu choice. I chose the Fresh fish of the day grilled and it was like 2 shrivelled up bits of plastic - horrible. Chips werent nice and it was genuinely poor standard of food.Shame!

Food very good. A good range of choice for all tastes. Service prompt and pleasant. Prices competitive. An unpretentious place to eat, but much better than many other local places that are better known.

We had a table for 9 for a family meal during the Easter bank holiday, some of us had been before, and the food is usually pretty good. The restaurant wasn’t particularly busy, there was only one other couple in there, and a table or two in the bar area. Firstly I have to say that the drinks are ridiculously overpriced, £3.30 (if I remember correctly) for a pint of Diet Coke is disgusting, that’s what I would expect to pay for a pint of lager or cider. The alcoholic drinks in the round were also on the pricey side.

Visited this location as it was only down the road from where we were staying - however it was so good that we visited again. Both times thoroughly enjoyed the food - first time we had the panini and baguette. Second time we both had a cooked lunch and both were enjoyable. Had no room for anything else.

Friendly staff, hearty, simple menu, great coffee. We stopped here after walking Crickhowell to Brecon via the Black Mountains. They weren’t bothered about muddy boots but we took off at door anyway. Toilets immaculate. Chef’s playlist that could be heard in the dining area - not a bad song on it for about an hour. Good on him!!

We stopped here to break up a long journey. Straight away it seemed very unwelcoming. My son is autistic, and because he seemed more comfortable in the corner section we asked to move tables. We were advised that was the dog friendly section, and obviously we would move if needed, it was quiet at the time, but this seem like an inconvenience to move tables. Then when my son was wandering in the pub, this seemed to annoy a couple of guests, and I know he seemed hyperactive but these are some of his autistic traits, this seemed to annoy one couple in particular, where the man was making very rude comments ( I know you have no control over who comes into your pub) but overall it just felt very unwelcoming in there. Are kids not allowed in here? It didn't seem like it. We come past this pub often, so we will not be stopping here again.

We dropped in without booking hoping to get lunch. I was with my friend and her disabled dad. They were able to offer us a table and from the start the experience was excellent. The staff member ( I think it was the Manager) came out to the car park to see if we needed any help with the wheelchair. We were promptly seated and drinks and food order taken quickly. All members of staff were polite and friendly. The food came in a good waiting time and we were all really pleased with the food. I had an ultimate burger, my friend a Thai beef dish and her dad an all day breakfast. Great portion sizes, hot and all tasty. Really reasonably priced as well ! Thankyou for such a great experience

My wife and I were staying in a B&B in Berriew which didn’t cook evening meals on a Sunday, so we decided to try this inn for our dinner. We arrived without reservations, but were quickly shown to a table by a very pleasant member of staff who immediately took our drinks order. The drinks arrived and we ordered our food soon after. It didn’t take long for the food to arrive, and it looked very well presented. My wife had lasagne, which she told me was hot and tasty, however my steak and ale pie with chips was not quite so. Again, my meal was hot, but the meat in the pie was very grisly, which was a shame as the pastry was excellent. The chips and beans with my meal were first class, so absolutely no problems with them. As we ate our meal the chef came out and asked if everything was okay with the food. I told him about the meat in the pie, to which he laughed and then walked away. Now, what’s the point in asking me about my meal if you are not going to take action when you receive such a comment? Anyway, we finished the meal and went up to the bar to pay, at which time we were asked again if all was okay. I told the member of staff at the bar about the meat and this time it had a totally different outcome, in that someone, whom I took to be the manager, became involved, and she showed concern about the fact that my meal had not been perfect. She also told me that she would be having words with the supplier about said pie. We ended the conversation coming to an amicable agreement of a goodwill gesture, so I’m more than happy with the outcome. If it had not have been for the issue with the pie then this meal would have been almost perfect, in that the staff were lovely, the restaurant was clean and in a good state of decoration, and the service was first rate. My only other comment would be that the prices were a tad dearer than around my home city of Leicester, but not unusual for a country inn.
