The meal was great. My husband and I both had the belly pork. Very well cooked and plenty of it. Service was very welcoming. We booked to go back.

Got recommend this place and very disappointed. Staff friendly enough but steak was a cheap cut and very chewy, unlike any other sirloin I've had. Prawns were nice but overall very disappointed with my so called surf and turf. As for covid prepared, can you still have 12 people round a table?

We are a family of three and visited twice in one week whilst visiting the activity centre down the road. We had a late lunch one day and a late breakfast the second time. This is not high-dining, but that's not what we were after. It is good, honest-value food in the theme of a Harvester. We were impressed with the food quality and presentation on both occasions and the staff were chatty and appeared eager to please.Of particular note was the Old Barn Burger which we all ordered and was delicious (although we all decided not to have the pulled-pork on it as per the menu) with bacon and cheese. Lust enough chips, nice little salad and little pot of coleslaw. Perfect for just 12.95. My wife said it's one of the best burgers she's ever had.On both occasions it was quiet so can't comment how the establishment performs under pressure.

The place and atmosphere is beautiful. It was surrounded by pretty areas and the interior is so interesting and unique. Staff were pleasant and managed to squeeze us in despite not booking. We waited a good 45 mins for our food. This could well have been to do with reduced staff or the fact that a large party of about 15 had come in just before us. They did apologise. At this point we were starving, I ordered the fresh cannelloni with spinach. It was a good sized portion but it was not fresh. the garlic bread that came with it was the star of the meal. My partner ordered a sizzling prawn fajita. Now this was £15 which was more expensive than mine and consisted of two wraps, three small dipping bowls of sauce, one dipping bowl of cheese and two scoops of the prawn mix (about five prawns). Unfortunately, my partner said all he could taste was oil and burnt. It looked so impressive sizzling away when it came but when you looked at the quantity it was not filling at all. May be we went on a bad day and ordered the wrong things. We have heard loads of positive reviews so we will be willing to try again, maybe in the future.

We visited as 4 adults and 4 children while on holiday. The food had half a chance of being nice, using a griddle for the mixed grill etc but everything was over cooked. It took an age from ordering at the bar to receiving the first of the meals (the kids were getting hungry). It’s a shame, the place has potential but everything was lack lustre, from service, sticky tables and the food itself. We didn’t stay for desserts and left disappointed. I’m glad we visited on an eat out to help out day.

Visited here for a bite to eat whilst out with family. Was immediately happy to hear a bit of country music playing in the background. The staff were friendly and helpful. Menu was pretty extensive and traditional British food. I had tuna and cheese panini with coleslaw which was homemade and so creamy. The meal also came with delicious chunky chips. Shame we couldn't fit in a dessert but we will save that for next time.

While we often use this restaurant we were saddened by the decline in food quality. Upon our visit my husband ordered chicken pie which he said tasted ok but the chips were very few, I ordered plaice with new potatoes there were four potatoes two of which were black at the ends therefore equaling three potatoes and one smallest fillet of plaice with a small side salad, very poor value for money while they are undergoing some updating of the premises we did not feel this justified the very poor decline in food standards

Very friendly staff good choice of food which is reliable. Easy to park outside. This sounds a bit odd but the 'yellow signage' outside is a bit off putting & does nothing to promote an 'old barn' image. If I hadn't been there it would put me off going

A wonderful family run pub restaurant is what we stumbled on in Brecon yesterday evening. Run by Lois from Leeds, via South Africa, you won’t get a warmer welcome in the area. The Old Barn is as the name suggests an old converted barn at its heart & when you first enter this is what greets you but you quickly see it also has the nice surprise of an extra bright & airy bolt on restaurant area that’s nearer the river. An ideal spot for the summer months & supplemented with quaint outside benches looking out on the river. All this was a bit redundant on a chilly January night but I could visualise a great experience when the sun starts to shine once we get into springtime. The pub is dog friendly & we sat with our two spaniels by the fire on this Tuesday night. I noticed they do traditional Sunday lunches which is a bonus for locals. We’d arrived early & though the place wasn’t bustling (it was Tues) we didn’t feel isolated. Lois was an easy going host & discussed the menu in detail. It is pub style but the menu is well thought out & inviting. We had starters of king prawns in a spicy oil with cheesy garlic bread, which was ridiculously tasty. The bread was cheesy one side, garlic the other. Just fantastic & if you had nothing else you’d leave with a smile. We moved on to lovely mixed grill & pork with black pudding main courses. Both real platefuls & also lovingly prepared. Lois was on hand for drink refills & we soon felt like home from home locals. She explained they’d only had ownership since March 2019 & were still imprinting their style on the place. It was Marion’s birthday & being away from home in the circs we couldn’t have chosen better. Thank you Lois!

My steak was cooked perfectly with sweet potato fries done also perfectly! My partner had the same starter, a burger and a trifle which he said was all amazing. We are both very nicely full and will definitely be returning. Thanks you!

We went to this restaurant to celebrate my fathers birthday. We had a very pleasant girl take our order, but after that it all went down hill. Our food came to the table, brought out by a couple young lads. Unfortunately I had a problem with my order , as I had chosen gammon which normally comes with chips but I had asked for new potatoes instead as i'm on a diet. I had been told that this would not be a problem. When our meal came out, my gammon came with chips. I had to ask three times before one of the waiters took my chips away and went out to the kitchen to get them replaced with the new potatoes I had ordered. They returned saying that the kitchen had run out of new potatoes !. I was offered mash as an alternative, but this was not helpful for my diet. No compensation was offered. Another in our party was coeliac, and had special chips. Unfortunately these were not cooked properly. No one came back to check that we were ok. We had to get up and find someone to order more drinks, and even then it took a while before someone came. After the meal we waited ages , and again had to get up to go to the bar to request a dessert menu. One was brought out fairly quickly , but then they failed to come and take our order. I don't think that there was anyone in charge, and the young people working need more training. Over all the food was ok, but the service was poor.

This restaurant has changed hands yet again but it is a great improvement now. The staff were friendly and the food was good. We always prefer to sit in the old barn section but there is a lovely light modern restaurant as well. I had the chicken curry and my partner had the black & blue burger. Called in on speck and found ourselves very much in a building of two completely different halves - one half being the big old stone barn in the name - and the other a huge modern extension, with lots of bright windows ! It sits alongside a pretty little river and old stone bridge. We ordered the Hunters Chicken and the Ham, Egg and Chips. Both arrived piping hot and in mighty generous portions and where very tasty indeed. The salad accompanying mine was surprisingly good and had a lovely dressing on. The service was warm and friendly, and very efficient. Basically the winning formula here seems to be to serve lashings of tasty comfort food at very reasonable prices - it works ! Worth every penny !

We were very pleasantly surprised to find out just how good the food is, so no-one will be disappointed. The breakfast was excellent, and a special from the board was delicious. We both had a cheesecake which was good and we were informed that everything except the chocolate fudge cake is made in-house. Service was good, though the black pudding "extra" to go with the breakfast was missing - it was produced after a gentle reminder. Looking forward to a repeat visit.

We had a table for 9 for a family meal during the Easter bank holiday, some of us had been before, and the food is usually pretty good. The restaurant wasn’t particularly busy, there was only one other couple in there, and a table or two in the bar area. Firstly I have to say that the drinks are ridiculously overpriced, £3.30 (if I remember correctly) for a pint of Diet Coke is disgusting, that’s what I would expect to pay for a pint of lager or cider. The alcoholic drinks in the round were also on the pricey side.

Called about 5pm on way back from Hereford, we've been here some years ago and the place has obviously changed hands since then. The pub looks lovely outside and in and looks like the owners are trying. Unfortunately the young girl serving is really not with it when serving our drinks and taking our food order, she may be new and that I can forgive but management must train the staff better. We had the ham terrine to start, which was very nice. For mains my wife had the special lamb burger, a lamb burger put between a roll as dry as can be. I had the chicken curry which was the worst curry I've ever had , a bowl of water with packet curry added £11.75 seriously that is ripping people off big time I expected something special for that money. Nobody asked was everything alright not even when the young lad picked up the plates, so we told him how bad the meal was and asked him to feedback that to the manager. Absolutely no response at all how rude. We intended having a sweet and another drink but decided they did not deserve our custom.

Having been here many times and enjoyed some great meals, and provided a glowing review....I have to write this and provide some constructive criticism on my recent visit. We ordered beef roasts and to be honest on a Sunday there are many fine establishments offering great food where this is concerned, but what we had was bland and tasteless. I am asking myself if any of the management has actually sat down and eaten their own food ? They would be shocked. Also being charged for 4 wines when only 2 had been had, well it generally leaves a bad taste in ones mouth. My daughter asked for just eggs & chips, but we got charged fully for ham/eggs/chips and when this was questioned no discount was offered. Not a great day out, but please I hope the owners/management take this constructive criticism, as I have been very supportive, but when you get bad service, surely the good thing is to highlight it ?

Visited on route to our holiday on Sat 21st Oct with my son and dog. We arrived around 11.20 and as we wanted lunch we had a wait of 40 mins before we could order. They do serve breakfast and brunch but my son loves Lamb Shank hence why We waited. We didn't mind this at all I settled down with a pot of tea and the newspapaers while my son amused himself on his phone! The lady who served us was really friendly and came over 2 take our food order about 20 mins later and said it would be sent through 2 the kitchen at 12. The food was delicious I had sausage on bubble n squeak and my son had lamb shank. Such a lovely atmosphere and each time we visit it just gets better.

We stopped here while visiting relatives in Wales. They have a great choice of classic British pub food: pies, bangers and mash, etc.

Having been let down by The Castle at Talgarth who told us our booking was for the previous Sunday (it definitely wasn't) we drove straight to The Old Barn hoping that they would accommodate us for Sunday lunch. It was a big ask as we were a group of 12 but we needn't have worried. The lady behind the bar was brilliant, she told us we may have to wait about 30 minutes but we could have lunch.

We ate here twice while camping locally. Both times we had good service and lovely food. They do afternoon tea as well as regular pub food and drinks. The toilets were clean and there was ample parking.

We were on holiday (self catering cottage) in the area so visited on 2 occasions for dinner. Saturday evening was quiet and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals in the modern, light and spacious area looking out on the patio dining area. Service was good and the staff very helpful. We visited again on the August Bank Holiday and chose to be seated in the same area. This was a big mistake, as there was a large group with children who were noisy but also who took a long time to order and be served. We were advised that it was busy, and waited nearly one hour for our food ... which to be frank, was not to the same quality as we'd had two nights earlier. Our ratings are a average of our two visits.

We were a family party of 7 looking for somewhere nice to eat on August bank holiday Sunday. The Old Barn Inn looked attractive outside and very quaint inside. We decided to book a table and had great hopes of good food and an enjoyable evening ahead. We were disappointed. The vegetarian options (3 meals) were barely edible, the vegetables with other meals overdone and the potatoes appeared to be 'smash'. Not wanting to risk pudding we asked for the bill. Fortunately, my daughter had a quick look at the bill when it arrived and found we had been charged for 2 bottles of wine instead of 1, 5 pints of beer instead of 3, 2 pints of cider instead of 1. We pointed out these errors and the bill was taken away and discussed at length. We received a refund and the waitress pointed out we'd been given an extra 10p. Wow! We spent a lot of money at the restaurant and came away feeling cheated.

We went for dinner here after completing the 4 waterfalls walk and we were in great need of some good food. This place did not disappoint and although we were told the pies had run out, the chef then made some freshly for us and it was worth the wait. Nice selection of drinks behind the bar and we then treated ourselves to a chocolate fudge dessert. All of the staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble, allowing us to use their plug sockets to charge our various electricals.
