We haven't had Chinese takeaway from her for about 6 years and boy was it good Tonight! Just as good as the last time if not better. Prompt and polite service from Simon as always and the food was delicious and piping hot. Very sad to hear they are closing down soon as they have been open for over 40 years but I wish them well for the future

Visited today based on trip advisor reviews. A bit tucked out of the way but we easily found it, on entering we were met by a lovely friendly face who steered us to an available table. The cafe looked very festive and clean and tidy. We were given the menus and both chose the steak and ale pies which came out piping hot and were lovely. The only negative was as it was a Sunday we thought there maybe a roast available unfortunately we were not given this option or could see any signage from where we were seated, if we had then we would have both definitely had the that , especially afterwards seeing the roasts coming out. Anyway as said our lunch was still delicious, the waitress checked in on us and asked if we needed anything else again with a cheerful smile. Oh and the toilets were spotless and smelt very clean not often you see that, if we are ever back in the area we will definitely pop in. Thankyou for a lovely day experience.

I have been to the Oriel Cafe before in fact quite a few times but mostly morning and lunch time. Today myself and my aunty of 83 called in at 3.35. i asked if they were shutting and she said at 4pm. I then thanked her and ordered tea and a coffee. The whole time it was an unpleasant experience she cleary didnt want to serve me. Admittedly the reason was in the middle of the room sitting around a table were her friends or family? The drinks were thrown down with no eye contact or any words spoken. It was an unpleasant experience as up till then had always told people to call in if they were in Newtown. wont be going again and will not be recommending. Such a young girl but really does need to learn customer service is with a smile!

We went for Sunday lunch. There was Pork loin or Beef to choose from. We chose pork and it was lovely. There were 7 side vegetables, all beautifully cooked also Apple sauce and gravy. For desert there was a large choice. I chose the home made meringues with summer fruits and whipped cream. The meringues were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. They were beautiful as they were not too sweet and the fruit and cream complemented the meringues very well. My husband chose the home made apple flan with ice cream and that was also very much enjoyed. The staff are very welcoming and we will certainly be back. Thank you.

Bed was uncomfortable for me but ok for my husband. I get the mattresses won’t suit everyone. I had to go out and buy a pillow as they were also hard for me. Can be noisy from punters but if like us you’ve had a full tiring day out you’ll sleep through it. Breakfast outstanding with plenty on the plate. Ray and Janet are really lovely hosts and full of knowledge. Made us very welcome.

IT WAS NOT TERRIBLE BUT . . . . . . having checked their website before leaving Cheltenham to check that the café was open that day and driven 50+ miles it was very annoying and disappointing to find it was CLOSED. The gentleman mowing the front lawn (possibly the owner or manager) replied to my disappointment saying "Oh, yes, I must get around to changing it (the website)".

Great place to stay. A friend and I cycled to the area and stayed here overnight. The owner is very accommodating and friendly. The room is a generous size with all the facilities you would want, and you have access to an outside deck area with lounge chairs and table which is ideal on a sunny day. The breakfast was also lovely. The location was great as it’s a 5 min walk from 2 good pubs and a post office/shop

A long wait but nice food ** There did not appear to be many visitors to Talgarth that day, but even these limited numbers seemed to overwhelm the catering establishments. The first place warned us of a lengthy wait before we would be served, so we went to the Strand. A bit quirky with traditional style tables and lace cloths. Shelves of books a bit like the cafes in nearby (and more interesting) Hay on Wye. Quite hard to attract any attention to place an order and over an hour before we got any food. Off-hand (actually downright rude) and very unapologetic for these delays. I myself am apologetic for being such an inconvenience and will ensure I don't bother them again. Having written this while impatiently waiting, I have now been fed and this was tasty and decent size portions, not massively overpriced.
