A long wait but nice food ** There did not appear to be many visitors to Talgarth that day, but even these limited numbers seemed to overwhelm the catering establishments. The first place warned us of a lengthy wait before we would be served, so we went to the Strand. A bit quirky with traditional style tables and lace cloths. Shelves of books a bit like the cafes in nearby (and more interesting) Hay on Wye. Quite hard to attract any attention to place an order and over an hour before we got any food. Off-hand (actually downright rude) and very unapologetic for these delays. I myself am apologetic for being such an inconvenience and will ensure I don't bother them again. Having written this while impatiently waiting, I have now been fed and this was tasty and decent size portions, not massively overpriced.

First experience of delivery was that the lovely lady was pleasant and polite. Food came in differing trays and was plentiful although presentation lacked. Lacked salt and Mash was sloppy and Roast Potatoes was very soft as if boiled too much prior and wasn’t formed or crisp. Pork was wafer thin sliced and came smothered in apple sauce which is not everyone’s taste and should be separate or at least ask the question. It spoiled my experience and at least know for next time to state or choose something else. Food overall came piping hot and is great for those who struggle to cook or who want a Sunday lunch delivered. Would ℹ recommend to others yes, it wasn’t a totally bad experience it’s my opinion, constructive feedback and suits others.

Stopped here for a quick snack mid afternoon. Really good menu, food was delicious and large potions. Dog friendly. You are surrounded by shelfs of books which are for sale which adds to the atmosphere. Staff were friendly and accomodating. Will definately return here when in the area next.

Whilst visiting a friend in Talgarth, we decided to order the Sunday roast as a take away. We deliberately ordered later to avoid the lunchtime rush and the meal arrived on time and was piping hot. I had the turkey and my friend had the nut roast, accompanied with roast and mashed potatoes, carrots, cauliflower, peas, beans, cabbage, stuffing and gravy. All beautifully cooked and delicious. To be honest it was more than we could manage, so we saved half for the next day! This made it very good value. Highly recommended.

Staying with friends who have just moved to live in Abergavenny, wanted to drive somewhere in the surrounding area to see more of the beautiful landscape. Wanted to eat relatively early as we had skipped lunch but found that most places serving dinner didn't open until later. So tried the Strand and so glad that we did. First appearances as we drove up the street weren't promising but as soon as we walked through the door we knew that it was going t be either a disaster or something really good. It was an excellent experience. This was dinner with two friends who we hadn't seen for some years and we all enjoyed the evening thanks to the staff at this restaurant. Having spent the previous two weeks in Cornwall, I couldn't believe the excellent value for money.

Saw an ad in Wye local magazine for the Italian night at The Strand in Talgarth. The menu sounded lovely. However, I have a dog and would not be able to eat in. I asked if they would provide the Italian menu as a take out and they obliged. The food was well packaged with the hot in a separate bag to the cold. The Tomato and Mozzarella salad with garlic bread was plentiful, fresh and delicious. The spinach Cannelloni and beef lasagne served with mixed leaf salad and chips was even more delicious and even more plentiful! The dessert of tiramisu and fresh cream topped off a fantastic meal all for the bargain price of £12.50 per person. They even included an after dinner mint. I am now too full to take the dog for a walk but I’m very contented. Thank you so much. I’ll definitely be back and can’t recommend you highly enough.

Once a year a group of us camp at Llangorse Lake, and we use this company as a great take away option. This year we forgot to give plenty of notice and subsequently placed a telephone order for 13 people. It was delivered free of charge to our campsite with everything we’d ordered, plenty of food, amazingly hot and very tasty. Their menu is vast and we really can’t fault them they cater fo everyone 😊

Shockingly bad customer service. We were told up to an hour and half wait for home delivery, two and a half hours later - still nothing. Two phone calls, there was no apology, nothing. Thought we’d give them a try after a leaflet through the door - never again. Don’t waste your time!

Took grandchildren for an after school treat. It was a hot day and with the sun coming through the glass, the books had a very musty smell. Put me off my food, which is very good at the Strand. I think that they should all be cleared out and the restaurant repainted and with a new look, the cafe could do amazingly well. I think most of their business is either takeaway or catering for local businesses.

Stopped for lunch in Talgarth whilst travelling along road to Brecon - very pretty village btw! Really charming cafe, with walls lined with books and retro decoration. Fabulous lunch - we both had the baked potato with chilli, which sounds basic but was much nicer than you normally get. Good potato and the chilli had some heat, which you don't normally get in pub/cafe chilli. Good salad and coleslaw came with it. We enjoyed it so much that we came for lunch again on our way back from Pembroke. This time we had sandwiches, both excellent, and seriously recommend the roast lamb with mint sauce sandwich - served hot, great meat, very tasty indeed. Lovely staff, good value, big portions. Will head straight here when in area again.

My wife, two girls and I tried The Strand last Saturday after a day's gliding at the nearby club, through pure laziness. We were expecting an average takeaway, just to 'fill a hole' after a busy day.We were quite taken aback when we realised the standard of the food. We opted for indian food from the menu, and everything we tasted was of a very high standard. Full, balanced flavours, without excessive salt or sugar, excellent quality meat and perfectly cooked rice. The naan was fresh tasting, with a slight crispness yet still retaining the fluffy interior without being 'doughy'.Truly recommended; we were very impressed.

Ordered a take away from here for tea one night as we couldn't be bothered to cook. Ordered a meat feat pizza. When it arrived I took one mouthful and spat it out. The base of the pizza was burnt to a crisp and completely black. All I could taste was the burnt base which was a shocked the amount of horrible cheese that was on top. Pizza should be covered in mozzarella not 2 packs of horrible cheddar that goes horribly oily! And I'm not the only person who has had this problem with the pizza! Wouldn't order from here again or go in to eat. Put me off completely!

Found this cafe when visiting Talgarth and surrounding area. Unusual and interesting. Lovely to be able to look around the books and my husband who collects old books would have been happy to browse all day!! Food was good and there was lots of it so beware if you only want a sandwich. The young lady serving was cheerful and friendly. I believe they also do outside catering. Recomend a visit if you are in the area. Its not in the main square of Talgarth but worth finding.

I go there 4 times a day because I just can't get enough of the food, it is perfect. I am only 1 pizza away from death, but if I die eating pizza, I want it to be a pizza from the strand! Kate, the chef, even opens both the doors for me to get into the place and adds extra cheese to help me clog my archories. I generally really reccomend the food at The Strand and I would especially reccomend trying the pizzas :)

Stopped by this Cafe recently, after taking in the awful musty smell of old books as we entered we took a seat and with my husband taking his time to read the menu I was nosing around the place ( as women do) it was then that I noticed the cob webs everywhere, on the window sil was the biggest darkest grey cob web I have ever seen and was stomach churning, they were all over the blinds and curtains. I then said to my husband that I had to leave as there was no way I was eating or drinking in a place where the staff could not see this and where they cannot be bothered to clean. I do not know what Hygiene rating this Cafe has but I would not give it a 1 let alone 5, In this day and age there is no need of this and I am surprised that the Environmental health has not visited. No wonder it was dead quiet in there.

Stopped here randomly after a drive out into the country a few months ago - wow! The service was great, the chap serving was friendly and nice, and I could not get over how much variety was on the menu, and he seemed to have everything available! The café itself is on the corner of what was originally the main road in and out of Talgarth (I was told this by the chap working) but now feels as though it probably doesn't see a lot of trade, which is a shame as it really is a quaint building with a fascinating range on the menu. The building also doubles up as a library, it literally has hundreds of books lying around for you to relax and read, and also has a nice outdoor table if you wish to sit outside on a nice day.Certainly recommended and well worth the drive out!

Whilst I usually promote Deli-Licious as a good place to go if you have a Gluten Free (GF) diet, I was recently disappointed by their GF afternoon tea. I was pleased to hear they offered a GF afternoon tea but was left feeling let down by the poor selection and presentation. The normal afternoon tea was presented on either a picnic bench or a three tiered serving stand, mine was just put on a plate with no effort to make it look like everyone else’s in the group, making me feel like an outcast. At a cost of £16.95, it certainly wasn’t value for money.
