Never been here before but always wanted to try. Went in and ordered coffee for two and a piece of lemon drizzle cake. One coffee to be extra hot. Both coffees were served extra hot (one not asked for) and the lemon drizzle cake was awful. Tasted like synthetic lemon, the meringue/sugar toppings were tasteless. My partner said to the server that it did not taste right/nice and gave it back after one forkful. She mentioned it tasting very synthetic. The server said yes probably as probably from the supplier. Was not offered anything else, money back etc and there was too much of a queue at the counter to wait to see the person behind. I suspect the manager/owner. Also there was someone singing, in my opinion and the people at the next table (one took his hearing aid out) very badly. Very disappointing and would not dream of returning again.

I really love the way this place has been decorated, I love all the art and quirky stuff. Even the toilet is decorated. One seat is a waltzer cart! I had a cappuccino, which was one of the best I've tasted, The menu is nicely decorated and has a good choice. They really understand gluten-free options and are careful. The food was amazing, and I would add this tea room to any visit They also do gin!

My wife and I live near Welshpool. A few days ago, we had friends to stay, and we visited Welshpool to walk the dogs. We had planned to stop for some refreshment at Costa, but I suggested the Bay Tree, as I had been before, enjoyed it, and its dog friendly. It was only AFTER we had ordered, and our friends had paid, that we realised there was construction work going on. The noise was deafening, loud sawing and banging. We couldn't converse, and in a lul asked staff if it was going to be continuing. The response was an off hand, "yes, sorry, we have alterations going on". My friend mentioned her dog, which was fearful of the din. The staff member suggested takeaway cups. The deafening noise then resumed, joined by clouds of dust. Had my friend not spent the best part of 20 quid, we'd have walked out. Instead, we sat downing the drinks as quickly as we could, all the while being subjected to the horrendous noise and dust. Very disappointed, as I believe the Bay Tree staff should have made it clear there was major noisy construction work taking place, by signage at the entrance or the simple expedient of telling us BEFORE taking the order or payment. That would have been the reasonable thing to do. Not good enough.

Not the warmest of welcomes and I hadn’t finished my food and drink before I was told they were shutting and the server tried to take away my plate. Left without drinking my coffee as I didn’t feel comfortable at all. If I’d been told on arrival that they were closing in less than 20 minutes I’d have gone elsewhere.

What a find! Homemade delicious cakes, great tea shop menu. Fresh loose leaf tea. Doggie menu where my little one had ice cream. It is decorated in the back as the mad hatters tea party. We stopped by for the afternoon tea , well all I can say is don’t bother! The place is dark and downstairs full of stuff hardly any tables to sit at so we went up stairs …. Well that was an experience all on it own absolutely terrible place ,definitely needs to be looked at again as it’s meant to have just be upgraded!! As for the afternoon tea the sandwiches where just chunks of cold meat, the quiche was like rubber ( they took it away and then microwaved new one🙈) the scones where like bricks crumbled to pieces when you put a knife to them so couldn’t have the cream or the jam to them, and the cakes was disgusting the icing on one of them was solid Will never return

This restaurant has to be seen to be believed. An Alice in Wonderland area, a circus and fairground area. So much memorabilia. Even a jukebox (not working). My wife and I sat in a pod that once belonged to a fairground waltzer in the “naughty corner! The breakfast menu was extensive, with plenty of choice for families. My wife had the American pancakes, which were delicious. I had the “Full Welsh” with the usual ingredients. (I couldn’t distinguish it from a Full English but never mind). The quantity was great but the waitress warned me the plate was hot as it had been in the oven. The food had been nicely cooked but having been kept hot in an oven it had started to dry, particularly the black pudding and the sausages. It took the edge off a very tasty and filling breakfast. A shame really. All in all an enjoyable experience with many a chuckle at the artefacts (“All persons must wash weekly” we were ordered)!!

We visited the Bay Tree Vintage Tea rooms for lunch as it used to be ultra reliable. Sadly this estaishment has changed and not for the better. It used to have stunning Chesterfield sofas and armchairs which have all been removed. They have been replaced with fixed 'velour' diamonte benches which will look tired very quickly. The menu has been altered too. I ordered a pot of English Breakfast Tea (it's a tearoom, right?) I was served welsh teabag tea, not the same at all. The chips that came with our sandwiches, were 'poor' and clearly not cooked well. All round this was a disappointing experience and we shall sadly not be returning in the near future. The old Bay Tree Vintage Tea Rooms was quirky, unique and quality but this has been replaced and I shall no longer be recommending it. Sorry😔

So pleased we noticed this quirky tearoom when driving past today. The Alice in Wonderland theme is fabulous. Loved the characterful menu and quirky decor. Popped in for a drink whilst visiting Welshpool for the day. Whilst quirky inside, appeared to be having work done, with wires everywhere and ceiling tiles missing. Menus were very sticky. Chose 2 different teas, to be told one was unavailable, whilst serving the other. Then 2nd choice was also unavailable, which seems quite poor for a tea room. Staff were not that engaging, and upon payment, the waitress was more fixated with her phone.

Came for afternoon tea- they had run out of things on the menu but did not tell us on ordering so when it arrived it was totally different than expected. Childs afternoon tea was very expensive for what it was- would go for the normal one not the Alice in wonderland one as that only has a couple of pictures on the cakes. No crisps as said on menu. When we asked for the things that were missing they said that had just been busy so had to give us other things instead. We ordered for 4 adults but there was not enough of each sandwich each- they said we just had to share the 3 egg mayo between 4 so made it awkward for us. Food was bland and basic. Would not recommend. The venue its self is decorated quirky, however very rough around the edges. Improvement needed.

The service was slow. We had full Welsh breakfast and Welsh vegetarian breakfast. Mushroom were cold, eggs undercooked and chewy sausages. Hash browns, beans, toast and tea were fine. We paid £27 and for that price we expected better quality. The music was really nice and the place itself is nice. Our waitress was lovely but there was another lady at the till that looked a bit stressed out and asked the waitress to work faster (found that a bit unprofessional to do when customers around).

Wasn’t the cosy cafe I was hoping for. It was a miserable day out but it was cold in there. No good sitting near fire as tables not the right height to eat at. Moved to another table, was wobbly so was the one next to it, not ideal. Ordered a breakfast but eggs were fried and we asked for poached, sausages tasted a bit cheap and gristle like and the bacon needed way longer. I was disappointed having seen other glowing reviews.

Eventually after a further 25 minutes I was served, despite someone ordering way after me and served within 10 mins. No proper chef in this establishment as far as I'm aware. Owner more intent on family than guests. A couldn't care less attitude if I ever saw one. Unlikely Ill be eating here again. Quaint little place. Only 1 unisex toilet so sometimes quire a wait. Haven't been for a couple of years but was sorely disappointed. Extremely over priced, Soup £9.95 Jacket potato £9.95. The Tapas was the only reasonably priced dishes, 3 for £12.95 which we opted for to be told there were no tapas dishes available. So we didn't have lunch there, just a cup of tea. Used the toilet before leaving & the wall tiles, floor & toilet cistern were very grubby so really quite glad we didn't eat here. Wow, wow, wow. What an amazing little find. When we walked in we were greeted by very friendly staff. It is a themed tea room and I was blown away, I sat in a fairground waltz for my lunch but I couldn’t stop taking in all the decor. There was an Alice in wonderland themed room, circus/the greatest showman themed room, fairground area, the toilet was amazing - never spent so long in a toilet just looking at all the decor. Everywhere was so imaginative with lots of signs and an 80’s retro area. The food was amazing and every detail was well thought of. I had the loaded fries and you get a nice sized portion. The list of different teas and soft drinks was endless. I met the owner and passed on my gratitude and appreciation of the place. It was that nice we went back a couple of days later. Had a few visits to The Bay Tree but was really disappointed with our visit last Saturday (23rd Sept) my teenager daughter asked if we could go for lunch and have the afternoon tea. I think it’s £16.95 pp and felt excited what would arrive. Unfortunately myself and my daughter felt very disappointed with the food which arrived. Sandwiches were cheese and Branston and coronation chicken. Four slices of bread in total into triangles. One piece of quiche (no more than 3cm In diameter), two scones with cream and jam, two cup cakes, sponge cake and two macaroons. I just feel they could do a bit more on the savoury side and unfortunately a tad disappointing and not expected as others have told me what they have received.

Wonderful cafe. Huge selection of loose leaf tea (black and green) served in large tea pots, enough for 3 cups, plus. The white tea was good quality. Charmingly quirky decor. They love dogs. Made a fuss of our tiny dog, and gave her a dog biscuit the size of her head! (With permission). They have gluten free bread, and the menu is marked up where GF is an option. Ordering GF therefore straightforward. On the cake side, they have GF scones. The non-GF Victoria sponge was excellent, homemade. All the cakes looked great, I wanted to try all of them (displayed on the counter). On a Saturday this cafe is busy even in September. It is busy for a reason. Despite being busy the staff and service were great. I loved it, highly recommended.

We recently visited The Bay Tree Vintage Tea Room, and it was truly incredible! The decor, reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland, added a whimsical charm to the tearoom that I absolutely loved. The Wonderland-themed menu was a delightful touch, and the overall experience was fantastic. The teapots were impressively large, perfect for tea enthusiasts like myself. The wide selection of tea flavors to choose from was a pleasant surprise. As for the food, it was top-notch and offered great value with generous portions. I opted for the Welsh Breakfast, which was spot on. My wife had the Brie, bacon, and cranberry baguette, and my sons ordered the bacon and maple syrup pancakes, and the sausage and eggs bap as the the pancakes my son claims are the best he's ever had. We certainly had our fill! The atmosphere in the tearoom was fantastic, and it was packed with people, creating a lively ambiance. We will definitely be returning for another visit. From the moment we walked in to saying our goodbyes, the staff, especially Jody, provided exceptional customer service. Thank you for your recommendation. If you're visiting welshpool and want an overpriced venue that is style over substance then this is the place for you! If you'd like quality, then this place will not deliver. we visited over a week ago and paid for 3 children's afternoon teas, a full English and pancakes with bacon. The afternoon tea was advertised as "a selection of sandwiches, crisps, sausage rolls, cakes and pastries, served with juice or squash". The lady who served us stated "I've put them all together to save space", when in actual fact it was more to do with how shocking 1 would have looked in the holders. What we received was: half a sandwich per child, which were falling apart, a mouldy strawberry each, wilted salad and some cakes which were so cold and hard it seemed they'd just been defrosted from icelands desert section. There were 2 of each cake not 3 and the "pastries" consisted of one chocolate éclair, so we didn't even receive the 3 portions we had paid for. We received a small ramekin of stale tortilla crips between the 3 children and the orange juice was clearly off as it was curdled. We were not table checked and the service was poor. I messaged the manager who said she wasn't in but would get back to me the next day, we didn't hear anything. I've since messaged to have the response "the person who served you is on leave", however that doesn't excuse the fact that a "qualified" food prep person (they don't deserve to be called a chef) gave 3 young children mouldy strawberries, off juice and inedible salad. I wasn't going to post such a negative review had I received a half decent response from management, but they don't seem to care either. Definitely do not recommend this place.

Wasn’t very impressed, the first time I came for a booking of afternoon tea - after giving us menus & confirming 3 times it was okay we got told they kitchen was now closed after 20 mins of waiting. Gave them the benefit of the doubt, went back 3 weeks later for the same booking to then get told we had no choice of what style afternoon tea we got (even though a friend had been in earlier that day & later informed me they got the choice?) So not sure why it was different for us. The sandwiches were not any of the fillings we got told would be served, resulting in neither of us liking them. A 45 min wait before food came & a chilly atmosphere. Not to mention both times there was NO toilet seat. In the 3 weeks passed that issue hasn’t been sorted. The lady I was with was also heavily pregnant so even more of a struggle for her. I would not recommend & after the second attempt, I can’t say it was much better.

We always come for afternoon tea on our birthdays and the Easter one was lovely. Got served by the friendly waitress and had a good amount of food served. The cakes were so good, but we didn’t have much room left, so they kindly wrapped...

Saw some good reviews for the afternoon tea so decided to come here for my birthday. Wasn’t much of a welcome atmosphere on arrival. Interiors quirky, but dark, cold and crafty. Ordered the afternoon tea, the sandwiches and scones were nice, but the 2 cakes...

Reviews on here were good so went in with high expectations for a nice afternoon tea. Very disappointing. Whilst the sandwiches and scones were nice, the cakes were very plain and samey with the same chocolate frosting on all 3 cakes. The display at the main counter had some amazing looking cakes, but these didn’t come with the afternoon tea. Interiors were quirky, but felt cold and drafts inside and wasn’t much of a warm welcome either. I wouldn’t recommend.

Visiting for lunch whilst in Welshpool, we were debating between the Ploughmans and the Afternoon Tea. The Ploughmans was filling and delicious, but also reasonably priced. The venue itself is quirky and has lots of items of interest inside. The staff are friendly and engaging,...

Gorgeous decor, quirky and fun. Food is lovely. Its just hardly ever open? The times on TripAdvisor need updating, it's only open half these times, if that! If lucky enough to get there and its actually open, it's a real treat. X

Lovely afternoon tea for 2 this afternoon for my wife's birthday. She even got an extra piece of cake with a birthday candle. Lovely place. Staff very welcoming great background music and there is certainly plenty to eat. Doggy bag was required. Thank you for helping my wife to celebrate her birthday. Highly recommend this lovely tea room.

The staff at this property desperately need some customer service training. When we first walked in for our afternoon tea booking we weren't greeted with a smile & an hello by the miserable looking young lady but instead by a passive aggressive "we're only doing drinks & cakes" Which didn't bode well at all. Then when I asked a male member of staff what fillings were in the sandwiches. I was told in a couldn't care less attitude "cheese and a mix." He should know which fillings are available. We also heard them talking about customers in a derogatory way even saying "It doesn't look like they have any intention of going anytime soon." Which is very unprofessional. They didn't interact with customers or even seem to like their jobs which is strange in a job that requires interaction with the general public. This experience did put a dampener on my birthday afternoon tea which is a shame because the lovely quirky premises & food were amazing but we won't be returning or suggesting anyone else go there due to the awful staff.

Decor is fantastic and the food was great. Staff service however was way below par - had to ask to have order taken, unfriendly, just stood at the table with the food to wait for us to say whos is who's without asking and unconvicingly apologetic when an order came incorrect. Such a shame as the place itself is lovely!

We didn't stay, staff were pleasant, but particular customers were ignorant and wouldn't move their chair for us to sit down. We went next door to the Royal Oak, where there's lots of space, large choice and staff great.

We were looking for a good beer whilst in llandidloes and tried the Stag Inn. Modern take on a traditional pub where you can take your own takeaway in to enjoy. The beer was good 2 offerings from Three Tuns a great brewery and 1 from Purple Moose. Friendly welcome based on the one visit recommended!

What a shop! An amazing range of imaginative decor to choose from for your home complemented by a fantastic range of cakes! Wendy is also one of the most creative minds to ever run a shop. If you're in Builth or passing through you MUST drop by or you'll be missing out!! We bought an Angler Fish lamp we didn't know we needed, but clearly did!!

Always have great food when I visit, homemade cakes are delicious, the prices are very reasonable too. I am a support worker and I take the ladies I support here for lunch, and they are always very accommodating. Always a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere too.

Received menus from waitress who failed to tell us severall items were not available. We then went upstairs and sat to no avail, no one came to take an order. We went down stairs to place an order order then to be told their card machine wasn't working. I ended up eating sausages & mash which was swimming in gravy. All in all Loaf you failed on every level, well done.
