Superb meal out tonight at The Black Lion in Taly Bont. We all ate different things from the menu and they were all fantastic and plates left clean. The desserts were equally demolished. Would highly recommend coming to this quiet pub for top notch food.

We live in North Ceredigion. There are several good restaurants in the area but for a special night out, for us, this is the best. The food is consistently beautifully presented and, more importantly, delicious. It is a little more expensive than some other local restaurants but it is worth it. Service is friendly and the room is spacious and attractive . It is best to book. Opening times are limited.

We booked for a table of 5 including a 1 year old in a high chair. This was booked with 48 hours noticed on a day with limited service due to a festival in the village the night before. Our requirements where met and we where informed about the limited service during the day. Even with the limited service we where sat and settled quickly with our drinks order being taken. We where not rushed to order food and all questions and changes where handled without problems. The food was delivered in a suitable amount of time and it was to a very high standard. We where pleasantly surprised as both the Lamb and Beef where cooked to a high standard and the vegetables (served in a seperate dish) where also delicious. Two vegetarians in our party where also well catered for with a number of options that did not include the standard "mushroom" dishes. The Risotto they chose was very enjoyable. Our one year old was given a free meal as long as an adult ordered a meal (not including the lamb) this was also a great benefit that is welcome for parents of children that don't always eat a lot.The food was very decently priced for the quality of food provided. We would definitely visit again in the future and choose a time not directly after a festival when we would be able to enjoy a better more lively atmosphere

We visited for our anniversary meal last Saturday night. The restaurant was busy, but we had booked well ahead fortunately. Despite serving at least 2 parties of eight, plus 2 parties of four, our servers were cheerful, pleasant and the service was excellent. We both thoroughly enjoyed our choices of sirloin steak and fish and chips with a twist. Desserts were magnificent too. I was impressed by the sight of every dish that came flying out of the kitchen on such a busy evening. Well done to all concerned and thank you for a lovely evening. Highly recommended.

Fresh food cooked to perfection with love and care! OMG, were we glad we opted to go here for Sunday lunch - we were treated to some of the best meals we've had in a long time, in a pub, at this price (they should charge way more for food of this quality). I had the braised beef which was sooooo tender and lean it just fell apart when I touched it, with the addition of home made horseradish sauce (its those little things that make all the difference). My partner had the belly pork which was also devine, accompanied by some perfectly cooked pork scratchings and dauphinois potato. All served with fresh veg that were just right - smooth and creamy rosemary mash, crispy roast potato, *roast parsnip* (my favourite, and very rarely found when eating out), roast swede and mixed veg. Oh, and your own little boat of proper gravy. Yum. Topped off by really lovely service. Can't recommend highly enough, wish it was my local!!

We have been here before . We recommended this place to our friends , and when they walked in they were impressed. We all had starters , between us we had the salmon , Thai chicken salad and Mediterranean vegetable soup . They were all scrumptious. For mains three of us had beef dinner and one had lamb dinner . The vegetables were cooked spot on as well as the meat dinners . For dessert three people had knickerbocker glories and I had chocolate mousse . Our friends were really impressed and will definitely go again . The staff are excellent, polite and friendly .

There was a large party in the main restaurant so we were expecting service to be a bit slow but it was spot on thanks to our waitress Penny and Caroline the bar manageress. We have been for a meal at Y Blac before, but today's meal was superb. My wife and I had the same starter, smoked salmon salad, it was well presented and enough to provide an appetite for the main course. I chose the welsh lamb rump it was cooked to perfection, tender and pink and the vegetables were a good selection, tastefully presented, my wife chose the beef dinner and commented it's one of the best meals she'd had for a long while. The two ladies waiting were welcoming and friendly they did an excellent job as well. The whole ambience of the place is comfortable, the contemporary décor is lovely. Well worth a visit

We have recently moved to Talybont and have already heard many raving reviews about yBlac and its fabulous food. We gave it a try today and it was outstanding! The locals we've spoken with certainly weren't exaggerating when they said this was the place to go if you wanted to enjoy a superb meal with great service! We were greeted by Caroline who showed us to a nice comfortable cosy corner of the bar area to enjoy a pre lunch drink. Hendrix and tonic (made the correct way!) and the finest pint of ale I've had in Wales so far!A short while later our order was taken and when the meal was about to be served we were shown to our table by our charming waitress Penny who looked after us so well throughout the dining experience. Our Sunday lunch was honestly the nicest we've had in years! The quality of the food was first class and the portions were more than enough to satisfy any huge appetite! We really loved everything about yBlac and will be regular visitors here for sure. Thanks very much for the friendly welcome and amazing food.

We stopped in Talybont last week on our way back from Aberystwyth. We tried the hotel/pub next door to the Black Lion (where yBlac is located) but received poor service and their food standards agency rating was low so we decided to try somewhere else. We gave yBlac a try. There is limited parking outside, but we were able to find a place. We noted their food standard rating was a 5, which offered confidence. My immediate impression of the restaurant was that it was clean, modern yet cozy and nicely styled. We were warmly welcomed and were invited to sit anywhere we liked. We arrived at lunchtime and the restaurant was quiet (we were the only customers) but it seemed they were more set up for evening meal than lunch. The hostess brought menus and took our drink order. There was a limited selection of meals (I think there were only 3 or 4 items) but there was just enough choice to satisfy most people. Three of us ordered the Chicken in leek cream sauce, creamed potatoes and broccoli. Another ordered a burger and another ordered the fish and chips. The food took a bit of time to arrive, but when it did we all agreed that it was certainly worth the wait. It all arrived piping hot in temperature and was beautifully presented. It was evident from the first bite that the food was prepared fresh. It was delicious. Everyone in the group agreed that it was one of the best meals they'd had in a long, long time. One of the people in our group was a stroke survivor and could only use one hand. We asked if the hostess would mind asking the Chef if they could cut up the chicken so she could eat with one hand. She happily said she'd do this, took away the plate and returned a short time later. Not only had the Chef cut up the chicken, but they'd also taken the time to rearrange the plate so that when the food returned it still looked presentable - talk about attention to detail! We were very impressed with the level of care they took.Another in our group suffers from Dementia. They latched on to the hostess and began telling stories from their youth. The hostess was incredibly good and managed to politely remove herself from the conversation while at the same time giving the person their dignity; not an easy thing to accomplish and we were grateful for their professionalism.I went to the toilets (restroom) after my meal - I often judge a restaurant by the cleanliness of it's toilets. If you can't keep a toilet clean what else do you neglect? It was spotless and every piece of metal gleamed. The cost of the food was very good. We've paid more in other pubs and got nowhere near the quality of food we received at yBlac. I would highly recommend eating there if you're travelling through Talybont or the surrounding area - I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Our 3rd visit was for Sunday lunch. What a treat! Mediterranean veg. soup & mackerel pate, followed by perfect roast lamb & roast chicken, accompanied by beautifully cooked veg & potatoes, (roast mash & boiled). Only a few other restaurants in the area can cook as well but none are as reasonably priced. £14.95 for 2 courses, £17.95 for 3. There is a fish & veggie option as well.Lunch is only served Fri- Sun and the restaurant has not been as busy as it should be, whenever we have visited. Came here for my aunt's 80th birthday party expecting average pub food. This place is seriously good. As we were a large party we had already chosen from a set menu and everyone said their dish was wonderful. The fish pie was the best I have ever tasted and the vegetarian option was light, tasty, delicious and did not involve the ubiquitous goat's cheese. My only gripe is that we were unable to finish the perfectly cooked vegetables, roasted snips, cauliflower cheese, cabbage, carrot, broccoli and potatoes. The hosts were lovely and friendly I am glad my relatives live in the village, the trip from West Yorkshire was worth it just for the food, never mind to see them and celebrate the birthday. Lovely building with local artists' work for sale.

Unfortunately food took nearly an hour to arrive but staff were very apologetic and it was very nice when it arrived. So worth waiting for. Some had lamb some had beef (top marks for beef) and some had pork. All delicious with fab variety of veg served in separate dish and plenty of extra gravy. Only 3 could manage pudds. Would definitely recommend and return again .

My wife and I have just returned from a fantastic week in Tal-y-Bont, made extra special by having such a wonderful restaurant as yBlac for a dinner to look forward to after a day exploring. Everything about yBlac is exceptional, from a friendly and genuine welcome, to fine local beers and quality wines followed by a truly outstanding and varied menu. We didn't get to meet the chef but came as close as possible by dining on the excellent food that he and his staff produces. Wednesday is steak night at yBlac and I can honestly say that the sirloin, which I had twice and my wife once, was an outstanding piece of meat cooked perfectly to our requirements. The starters are interesting too from Welsh rarebit, to grilled Halloumi cheese and a delicious dish of creamy garlic mushrooms with wedges of crunchy toast. A real bonus is that all of this quality comes at a price that doesn't break the bank. Diners are also treated to some beautiful pieces of original Welsh art displayed around the walls of yBlac, and if you are really lucky you may be served by Caroline, one of the local artists herself. We cannot wait to return as soon as possible.

I booked the black lion for a friend's birthday celebration. We have a scale we work on £budget, ££mid range £££blow out. This was ££ on price for a special occasion but had the qualities of a £££. I booked for 8 people only 3 days in advance and they squeezed us in with no issues. Waitress was very welcoming (didn't catch her name) and knowledgeable of the menu. This is the type of place where you are really happy and satisfied with your choice but you still get food envy when your friends meal comes out. I had the Welsh rarebit for starter, followed by a crispy, crackled belly pork with creamed leeks and the lemon cheesecake for pudding. I also sampled the moroccan lamb, fish cakes and crumble after a trade off with friends. Delicious. Decor, music, local art, local food, welsh language, good wine, delicious food and the perfect place for a special ladies birthday! Also, they can split the bill easily on the till, what more do you need!? Thank you for a lovely evening!

I have visited the Llew du (Black Lion) many times over the last few years and every time I have thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the relaxed atmosphere. The chef has put on a temporary menu before rolling out a new one in the spring and it had some delicious choices. My son and daughter in-law enjoyed a huge rib of beef to share whilst I chose the chicken and my husband the duck which were all delicious. There was the added bonus of a new children’s menu from which my sometimes picky grandson ate all his chicken, chips and carrots. My son enjoyed one of the locally brewed beers (the owners regularly change the type of local guest ales available). This truly is a gem in the Aberystwyth area and definitely worth a trip out from Aber or calling in on the way through. We have never been less than delighted with the service, food and atmosphere of this sympathetically renovated inn. Can’t wait to go back to try the new menu when it goes live!

Great food here, best quality ingredients and the care the chef has for the food shows in what he sends out of the kitchen. Staff are lovely. This is not a fast food pub chain so if you want your food within 5 mins of ordering before getting impatient then probably not the place for you. Everything is fresh to order so there is sometimes a wait but it's always well worth it, and with a choice of well-kept ales and good wines available there are worse places to be than kicking back in the bar soaking up the laid back atmosphere chatting away to friends and family. Plenty of regulars through the door as well coming in for a drink and a chill out. Nice place to spend a long lunchtime or relaxing evening.

A little intimidating as it's made up of small, though beautifully finished, rooms full of locals. Could definitely tell it was all home-made. Only criticism was the long wait. Firstly for our mains (which we were told were being made from scratch- and were worth the wait) then the very long wait for our deserts (which were bland and a little tasteless). I've eaten at the Llew du a total of 4 times over the last year or so. My first experience was very average, but they hadn't long opened as it was a 2011 Christmas dinner. My last 3 visits, however, have been very positive. 2012 Christmas dinner was delicious, Sunday lunch excellent - moist pork belly and superb crackling (and an enormous crumble!), and recently we tried the 2 courses for £10 lunch deal which seemed excellent value for what I had (and I was naturally tempted by the dessert for the extra £4- lemon posset, although delicious, I found a little grainy). Overall I've been pleased with the place. The only niggle was that on my last visit we were served by the owner who, although was pleasant enough, didn't check how everything was with our food at any stage, which is a pet-peeve of mine as I work in a restaurant myself. Having said this, the service at other times was good. Oh and the bread is fab! I would certainly recommend.

Great pub to have in Talybont. But is it a bit pricey for the village - only half full for Sunday lunch today. Not the friendliest service - left for a while before getting menus and, considering only half full, surprisingly slow service with only one waitress on.Roast sirloin of beef was very good indeed, with a fine homemade yorkie. Very tasty gravy, and properly cooked, varied veg. Proper non-frozen peas.My ladyfriend's sea bream with salsa verde was excellent too.We would have liked deserts, but the waitress seemed reluctant to clear our plates (she went off to clean an empty table instead) and when a table of 8 ordered their deserts ahead of us we jumped ship.So - a nice place, excellent food, but slow service. I'd go again, but not when I was also planning a walk in the forest afterwards.

Well we had heard that a couple of people had not had a good experience at the beginning so we were a bit weary, however we were very very impressed! I had a steak cooked medium rare and it was spot on, the food was very good service very good so if you are not sure and some one put you off I would definetly try it for your self!

Lovely fresh food, able to cater for both vegetarian and gluten free. The chef came out to speak to us about our order and we felt looked after

We went for Sunday lunch. There was Pork loin or Beef to choose from. We chose pork and it was lovely. There were 7 side vegetables, all beautifully cooked also Apple sauce and gravy. For desert there was a large choice. I chose the home made meringues with summer fruits and whipped cream. The meringues were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. They were beautiful as they were not too sweet and the fruit and cream complemented the meringues very well. My husband chose the home made apple flan with ice cream and that was also very much enjoyed. The staff are very welcoming and we will certainly be back. Thank you.

Came for Sunday lunch on 3rd November and the food and service was outstanding. We had 3 courses and each course was lovely. The beef and salmon were perfectly cooked and the staff couldn’t be more helpful. The atmosphere was great and we’re looking forward to our next visit very very soon.

The View certainly has the Wow Factor! From the comfortable, modern vibe to the fabulous hosting, Lorraine with her team made our Sunday lunchtime ( and Friday coffees) an absolute pleasure. It really did feel like the customer’s needs were at the heart of what is offered. The carvery totally reached the spot with a very reasonable price tag. What more could we have hoped for. Thank you x
