Bed was uncomfortable for me but ok for my husband. I get the mattresses won’t suit everyone. I had to go out and buy a pillow as they were also hard for me. Can be noisy from punters but if like us you’ve had a full tiring day out you’ll sleep through it. Breakfast outstanding with plenty on the plate. Ray and Janet are really lovely hosts and full of knowledge. Made us very welcome.

We recently stopped in a local holiday cottage for a few days and visited the pub three evenings in a row. We received a very warm welcome from Ray and Janet. We played darts with our 12 year old daughter and chatted to the locals. I can recommend the home cooked curry, it was delicious. Will definitely be going again. ❤️

Stayed here last weekend....our second visit, forgot what a wonderful place this is, but so glad we went back and we will definitely be returning! Had beautiful home cooked food on the Sat night, followed by a top quality breakfast the next morning. The rooms are perfect, full of character, sumptuous beds and everything is spotlessly clean. The locals in the bar are a great friendly bunch but it's the lovely hosts that make the place....definitely recommend!

What a nice place to stay. The owners were friendly and made us to feel very welcome. Our room was beautifully decorated, fresh and clean. Lots of little extras that you don't normally find at a B&B but they made all the difference. Delicious breakfast with fantastic views out the back of the house. We loved it! We'll be back that's for sure!

I visited the lion hotel for one night on my way up to llanberis as part of my charity cycle lands end to John o groats and three peaks. There are not many places to stay in mid Wales in my experience and the lion hotel was a great experience. A warm welcome, good atmosphere, tasty food, good quality WiFi, comfortable well furnished rooms. They were even happy to help with my more unusual requests as a long distance cyclist for bike storage, early breakfast, pint of milk and they offered a packed lunch. I cannot recommend highly enough. I won't hesitate to return if my travels return this way in the future.

Phoned ahead to stay with Motorhomes in car park and have food in pub . When we arrived at 8.00 pm the pub was in darkness and locked up !! Out of the dark came a voice do you need electric hook up ? It transpired that the landlord had been taken to hospital that day and the landlady was with him , but even with all that going on she asked her son to come and meet us and take care of us. We decided not to stay because we needed food but thank you to the lovely people at the lion who still thought of a couple of strangers when they didn’t need to. Hope Dad makes a speedy recovery and we will call again.

We stayed for three nights but as we were made to feel at home we decided to stay an extra night. The hosts Janet and Ray were absolute diamonds and couldn't make our stay any better. Ray's knowledge of the area and directions were very useful. Breakfast was superb, fresh eggs from the hens that are in the garden. Room was comfortable and spacious. Set in a beautiful location with river views and also I was able to catch a few trout in the river which made my holiday. Easy access to Wales attractions ie Elan Valley. I would highly recommend. I will return to stay here again.

We stayed for three nights, the room was comfortable and nice. However, the curry was - given the rave reviews - not as we had expected. Maybe the cook was not there and so we just got a warmed up helping of curry undecoratively arranged next to some rice. Disappointing. My wife's hamburger was cold. But the chips our friends had were fine.

Friendly atmosphere goes hand in hand with good pub food. The place has a well deserved reputation for Indian Curries, they serve up a varied choice of really good Indian food. The rest of the menu is a little limited but pub favourites such as fish and chips are available. Excellent pudding board. The bar has a good and varied selection of beers. They also do B&B for tourists passing through and can even advise organise activities if required. All in all, a lovely country pub.

IMHO a perfect crossbread between a hotel and a B&B;, it blends all conveniences of a hotel with the homely and warm feel of a B&B.; On our motorcycle holiday through Wales we stayed for 4 nights and although originally planned with just breakfast, we had all dinners there as well. We arrived on wednesday and were warmly welcomed by Ray and felt immediately at home. The room was very nice and tidy with more than enough conveniences (soaps, shampoo, enough clean towels to survive any week, even toothbrushes, coffee/tea/watercooker, fresh biscuits, you name it, it was there.). During this week (and the month before appearantly) there was a heatwave so temperatures were not that comfortable but the window could be opened far enough the make the nights bareable. Janet`s cooking is great and here curry`s are lovely. The pair has some inside Indian culinary info as they`ve gone to India on plenty of occasions, for Ray`s speciality, Clay Pigeon Shooting Instruction. Staff is freat as well, all lovely people enjoying what they do. Because of our motorbike rides we wanted a couple of longer rides and thus leave early in the morning, which was absolutely no problem because breakfast, when asked, was served at 07.00 at well. All in all a very lovely stay here at the Lion and I think not the last time we will be visiting them. Wales is truly a wonderful country and for motorcycle riding full of adventure. Ray, Janet, staff, thanks for making our holiday a treat with great memories.

My mate and I stayed for two nights at this cracking Hotel - Very unassuming, quiet location with great views across the valley. A pleasant level of banter and the locals were very friendly returning for a drink with us on the second night too :-) The hotel has a reasonable section of food on the menu which is well cooked and then there is the curries... OOOHHH the curries are brilliant !! The food finishes service at 9pm I think, so get in early so not to be disappointed. It is a small hotel but the rooms are very clean with everything that you might need, kettle, biscuits, bottles of water (sparkling and still) and comfortable. The bathroom had a very small shower but was spotless and how much time do you spend in there anyway ?If your on a Motorcycle or Scooter, the front patio area which has outside eating area can be used to keep your bike undercover, so if it rains you can get on dry in the morning. Some great roads down to Cardigan Bay, Elan Valley tooMy mates going back again in a few weeks with some other friends - so go try it for size yourselves, nothing fancy, just homely and a get breakfast that keeps you going all day !!

Had an evening meal at the Lion - standard pub menu - What was offered was nice and we'll cooked but nothing very exciting or very specifically local except for a Welsh lamb burger. Don't serve after 9 which felt quite early on a Friday night mid summer season. Children's menu was actually quite disappointing but they did do a child's portion of one of the adults dishes. We heard about the curry and drove out there one night to try it. They serve other dishes, but are proud of their curry, which comes in a variety of different styles. The spices were probably a bit mild to suit local taste, but portions were good, and the menu was certainly creative. We shared an apple pie for dessert, which could be improved. Service was excellent, and worth a try definitely.

We recently visited for a birthday get together and had a lovely meal. They specialise on their curries due to visiting India. My curry was lovely, I had the Chicken Muataz which was the hottest on the menu. It was just right for me but if you're a vindaloo fan it may not be hot enough. Some of our group had the steak pie and gammon and again these dishes were very nice. My only criticism would be that there was no real ale on but other than that, a most enjoyable evening.

The welcome is always friendly and we do enjoy a modest pre Lunch drink in the cosy snug out the back. The views of the river are spectacular. It was a bit chilly to be sitting outside on the balcony but one brave chap did take his coffee out there! The food, well, you can't call it 'just Sunday Lunch! It's a foodie treat! Plenty of beautifully cooked food. Always hot and tasty. The quality is certainly there as well. Cannot fault anything and the Sweets are to die for! The atmosphere is invariably pleasant. A good mixture of Walkers, Holiday makers and Locals. Thanks so much for everything over the years Peter. Mock timber frame manor house retaining much of its character and charm. No lifts. Breakfast was choose your own pre-packed cereals with a cooked option. Dinner was a mini-taster with delicious options which we watched cooked on TV cameras. The room was clean but dated with an en-suit crammed in. High windows restricted light and views of extensive gardens and river. The staff were friendly and willing but lacked service training. Guests our age do not wish to be called 'you guys'.
