Drove the half hour out to this place because of the excellent reviews, family of five, food was OK, roasts hard but not crunchy, no mash potatoes or peas which was disappointing, my 11 year old daughter only wanted two Yorkshire puddings and gravey, we where initially charged for an adults carvary for this which is £14.95 she is under 12 so should have only been charged £9.95, I brought this up when paying the bill, it was changed to £3.95.
4 adult carverys, 4 pints of Pepsi, 2 pints of lime and soda and half a lemonade, 2 deserts came to £88.25.
Really great brunch spot. Delicious range of meal choices all of which seem carefully put together. Fantastic drink choices too! The strawberry juice was really refreshing and the coffee flight was fab as well. Lovely setting inside too ☀️

Absolutely amazing service 10/10.
We were looking for somewhere that did really good food (26th April 2025) This place certainly exceeded our expectations after reading previous reviews!
Perfectly presented food.
Very generous portions, we actually took some home with us.
Book in advance if you can… we didn’t but the manager brought another table into the bar area after I explained we were there solely due to their reviews on line.

The reviews of the Ramen served at this restaurant speak for themselves, and based on those reviews I decided to come with a friend and try the place out. Unfortunately, we couldn't even get as far as ordering any food.
When we entered the place the first thing that struck us was the excessive volume of the music, which was of a genre that seemed to cater for the second thing that struck me - the number of young people that seemed to be "hanging out" there. We were shown to our table at which we sat down at and found that it rocked quite noticeably (so much so that had a bowl of Ramen been place on it, it would have likely spilled over the side), and when we put our hands on it we found that it was actually sticky, indicating poor cleaning methods. The menus we were given seemed to have splash marks of a previous customers food - again, indicating poor attention to hygiene. When a young man, who appeared to be a friend of some of the youths hanging about in the place, came to take our orders we found that he smelled strongly of cigarettes. I found that so offensive that I asked him to go and put a mint in his mouth. As well as the sticky tables and dirty menus, somebody taking orders while smelling of cigarettes yet was another indication of poor hygiene methods and routines. All of this we found too much and decided to leave before ordering food.
Matsudai Ramen may well do the best Ramen in the country, but if they are going to charge a premium price for it then they must provide a premium service. I sincerely hope that the management there read this review and do something about it, as I would dearly love to go back there and try out the food that so many people rave about.
I very rarely, if ever I give a 1 star review, but this warranted it.
We had a family meal booked for 9 people for 5.30. We all ordered and one member asked to order dessert at the same time as main courses, as we were aware kitchen closed at 7.00 and was told they would take the dessert order later.
The roast dinners looked ok, 2 had the mushroom cheese pie, which should have come with chips, but arrived with mash. I told waitress it was supposed to have chips, not mash and she just looked at me, after prompting she took it away, then came back with it and said we’ll bring you a portion of chips. Not surprisingly the chips didn’t arrive, so half a pie wasted, as had been waiting for the chips.
They offered a free dessert, but as the kitchen had closed, only 2 choices of cold desserts were available, which were poor by those who had them
If you aren’t going to offer the full menu with all the courses, then don’t take the booking, apart from one server, I felt the staff were disinterested including the manager.

I was in cafe and a gentleman accidentally knocked over a jar of pickled beetroot . The owners attitude to it was appalling . It was an accident at the end of the day . That poor man did not deserve her attitude . She even gave him less on his breakfast Pafetic way to run a business Accidents happen Rhiannon !!
Wonderful food and service. The best meal out I have had in a very long time. Glad We took the time to travel here. Will definitely revisit when back in Wales.
Our first visit to this fabulous old pub but definitely not the last! Very friendly staff, exceptional Sunday lunch and a great atmosphere.
Perfect on a day when we were just out exploring Redwick, as we're new to the Magor & Undy area. What a find!
