Lovely pub Brilliant atmosphere

We came across this place when looking for some food on our weekend away in Burry Port and were so happy we did! The atmosphere was lovely as were the dad/daughter duo who made sure we were happy throughout. The food was great, super fresh. Lovely experience!

Last minute decision and fitted our family of 4 in even low it was packed out. Sunday lunch was amazing and even had a veggie option for my self. Drinks food and dessert were very affordable and delicious.

We came here as a family of 4. The whole bill came to under £50. The food was home cooked and fresh. Really good portions. The lasagne was lovely and the chicken dish was really enjoyable. I think what made this pub stand out was how attentive the staff were. Nothing was too much trouble and they all seemed happy and really polite. My husband had chicken on the bone and without asking the lady brought over a bowl for him to wash his hands. The decor is lovely and there is a great beer garden for summer. The children's meals were well priced and there were good options. Also, plenty of choice of food on the menu to suit everyone. Table service in the bar area was a nice touch. We would come again. We all had a delicious meals at Ship Aground this afternoon ,l had a delicious Vegan meal and l couldn't finish it all as l was full up and the prices very reasonable, staff very friendly and attentive and spoke Welsh ,l will most definitely be going back there to eat..Diolch x

We were planning a long morning walk at Pembrey country park and looking for somewhere to get a late lunch that was dog friendly. Gave them a call at 11am and said we'd probably be there around 3. Owner recommended booking as can sometimes get busy. We arrived early, rather windblown from our walk, but that wasn't a problem - the table was waiting for us, friendly staff waiting the tables arranged for our dog to have a few mini sausages cooked for him alongside our lunch. The standard of the food was really excellent, my husband really enjoyed his stuffed pork loin, and my chicken parmesan was lovely too. Staff and owner very attentive and friendly and prices very reasonable. £44 for two generous lunches including drinks and sausages. Will definitely be visiting again!

What a jewel! I don't do reviews but just felt I had to comment because food and service were exemplary and for the standard very reasonably priced.

Another beautiful meal at the Ship Agound. Pembrey. Gavin & Team are very friendly, accommodating hosts. Gavin's menu is imaginative, offers a twist on more traditional fayre such as Persian inspired lamb shank, cajun salmon, as well as a side of hedgehog garlic bread. It also offers traditional dishes, so appeals to all. Also worthy of a comment, the chips are a good size & very fluffy. Gavin looks to source quality ingredients & you can taste this in the food. Portions are generous. Desserts are imaginative, also generous & include vegan options. We shared a chocolate & orange pudding which was fluffy & light. Would highly recommend the Ship Aground.

Old style pub with a very warm and welcoming atmosphere...the owner and staff were very warm and accommodating.....the food was absolutely world class will definetly be coming again soon.

Popped in last night while visiting family. We were given a table in the bar with the locals. It’s such a welcoming place with friendly staff and a great atmosphere. We have the filled giant Yorkshire pud and a chicken schnitzel- both were excellent. A good selection of beer and cider too. It’s become our favourite place and open on a Monday too. We would recommend booking if you can but don’t rule a visit out if you haven’t as there is plenty of room on the bar.

We popped in on the off chance as hadn’t done our homework as regards how good the reviews were and we were delighted to find this gem. The fact that food was available throughout the day was so good when you are on holiday and eat at different times due to being active and out of routine .The staff were amazing . Hubby was delighted at the local beer actually served at the right temperature . Our grandson loved the fat chips . We all loved the food we chose . In fact so much so that we returned another day. Highly recommend . I had the Persian inspired lamb shank the first time and pork tenderloin with apple , bacon , rosemary and pecan stuffing. Very tasty

My wife and I had a lovely meal here. We were looking for somewhere dog friendly and were fortunate enough to stumble on The Ship Aground where they allow dogs in the bar. They fit us in without a booking, despite being quite busy, the food was great and the staff were all very friendly and attentive. The price was also very reasonable considering how nice the food was. Would highly recommend a visit if you’re in the area. We will definitely be coming back when we are next down this way.

The four of us turned up on the off chance for lunch, what a fabulous welcome,all the staff were great but the young waitress was excellent, with a great recall of the menu , food was delicious, the ambience/atmosphere was lovely, decent size car park, but would probably advise booking as I think we were very lucky to get in, will definitely back

New owners in the last 12 months, ignore any old reviews. Great menu, great food and great atmosphere. Well worth a visit. Steak and ale pie, steak with blue cheese sauce and hedgehog garlic bread 👍👍

Stayed at Pembrey country park. We walked to the ship aground for a drink. The food looked lovely. We walked there again the following day and had lunch. I had the homemade pie The best pie I have had in a long time. My wife had fish. It was lovely. Cracking service and friendly. Very dog friendly. 5* all round.

Had a meal there this evening with 3 friends - the service was great, the food amazing. A really friendly pub with a great atmosphere. Couldn’t fault it and thoroughly enjoyed my meal. Will definitely be back. So pleased to see a really busy local pub enjoyed by the locals. The landlord, who also checked with us regularly to make sure things were ok, should be congratulated for running such a fabulous establishment. Well done to him and all his staff 👏👏

Lovely little Local pub, food was amazing, We had steak and a lasagne. Steak was amazing quality and cooked to perfection, Lasagne was home cooked and really tasty, all good quality ingredients and you could tell food had been cooked with love Dog friendly in the bar area which was also a massive bonus. We had the chicken schnitzel and fries for both of us, the food was delicious and hot, it is definitely one of our favourite places to come for a meal. Will be back.

Lovely quality food - in this instance Sunday lunch for five. Three real ales available. Dog and cyclist! friendly pub. Lovely relaxed atmosphere even though very busy. Highly recommend.

Be prepared to book ahead if you want to eat in the restaurant, as it is extremely popular. Lots of covered outdoor seating though, ideal for al fresco dining and/or drinking. Dogs are allowed in the bar area and in the beer garden (ours can't go past without dragging us in). The food and service are exceptional and the staff are lovely - friendly and professional.

Overall this place was... fine. We mostly went for the food - which was okay. We went on what appeared to be a very busy day. We ordered at 6pm. We were told half hour wait on food but didn't get served until just after 7pm. We mentioned that some of the chips were missing and were told it was just coming. 35 minutes later, when everyone had finished eating, I had to go back inside to find out where the chips were - when they were handed to me immediately. The food was mostly okay and tasty enough but very small portion sizes for the cost. The waiting service was poor, sadly. Though I did feel sorry for the waitress as she seemed stressed and not that happy. The bar did seem to also be running out of non alcoholic options. No non alcoholic cider which we were told they usually have, and they ran out of J2O too but that's fine - just a bit disappointing for the designated driver! Overall, I imagine on a quiet day, it's a fairly nice place. But our experience was that the service really let this establishment down, especially given that restaurant prices are being charged for fairly standard pub food.

We have alway enjoyed coming to the ship aground while we are on holiday but this year was such a disappointment. We came on Saturday 27th July and we had to wait 1 and a half hours for our food to arrive. Once it came it was lovely but it would have been good if someone had warned us about the long wait for food. The waitress was lovely and was obviously taking the flack from some costumers. Poor girl it wasn’t her fault. We will return as we are hoping this was just a one off and we ve always loved our nights out here.

Seemed an average pub, three cask ales so a choice but all very similar ABV and type, Listed as a gastro pub but didn't try the food. The other two pubs in the village were closed so couldn't make a comparison

Charming, friendly and delicious food. Apart from one particularly rambunctious antipodean present when we visited, the atmosphere was relaxed and pleasant.

Its ok. The tall young kid behind the bar is a bit of a twerp and they dont really like you having fun in there but that apart all good.

Arrived 6pm on a Thursday.Car park full sun was shining. Busy at bar but orderly and staff competent.Outdoor seating with umbrellas offering shade.Meal arrived enjoyed my second visit and will return.

We booked this restaurant for an anniversary meal and the pub, food and staff were amazing throughout. We spoke to the owner, a chef by trade who designs the menu, he explained all of the dishes and food etc. The service was impeccable and the food was served in very generous portions. When the food arrived it was presented so well and tasted amazing. The steak was one of the best one of our party had ever eaten and the cheesecakes were to die for. The staff made us feel so welcome, the atmosphere in the pub was perfect, with the lighting and music set just right. The staff were extremely friendly and would I visit here again? - Absolutely! A lovely busy local pub with a great atmosphere. All the food we had was very tasty and the steak was cooked to perfectly as ordered. Very nice place for a meal or a few drinks.

As locals, we like to come and enjoy the pub but for the last 4 times, they’ve either stopped serving food or they’re too busy trying a new menu in the main restaurant. The most latest incident was us being handed a menu and being told food is still being served and then going u to the bar 5 minute later to be told they’d stopped serving. We really like the food in the pub, but we’ve decided not to return which is a shame because it’s the locals in the winter months that keeps these establishments going.

Incredible pub food. My fussiest Aunty give it a solid 10, this is unheard of. The staff are lovely also and we had good weather and we’re able to sit outside. Dog friendly a massive plus. Highly recommended

Food very good, was craving Fish and Chips and they didn't come much better.

If you’re planning on booking here with a large group don’t even bother. I’ve attended 2 birthday meals here in the past couple of weeks and it was an absolute shambles. The first time was horrid, we waited over an hour for our food and then they kicked us off the table after 2 hours because our ‘time was up’ even though it was entirely their own fault. The second time our server was insanely rude, we felt incredibly rushed and she kept hovering by with her notebook making snide comments. We felt very unwelcome and it completely ruined my grandads birthday meal as it put everyone in a bad mood. The food is decent but over priced and nothing special that you can’t get elsewhere. They were also under prepared and were out of stock on most of the drinks, my nan had one glass of rose and then they ran out 🙄

Popped in here on a Thursday, late afternoon and the place was busy. However the lovely team squeezed us in and we are so glad they did. What a choice if menus from pub grub, to diner, to a delicious selection of specials. What a choice for vegans, meat eaters or fish eaters. We opted for burgers and chose the pulled pork option. We weren't disappointed, the portions were a good size, the food hot, freshly cooked and served on hot plates. The drinks were good too. The place is spotless, the staff can't do enough for you and they are dog friendly in the garden and bar too.

The food was absolutely amazing. Chef really got the balance of the flavours on the dishes. It was busy and vibrant. Good selection of drinks. Menu was short but varied with different prices. We've been here many times, and quite honestly, it's the best place locally to eat. The food is exquisite. Simply delicious. The staff are very friendly. It is a dog friendly pub as well, which is lovely, as you don't get many pub/restaurants that welcome dogs. If you are looking for a place to eat, deffo pay the ship aground a visit.

Stopped here on Good Friday on the off chance there would be room.was told they could squeeze us in, and boy, we weren't disappointed. Big surprise, all food locally sourced fish meat veg etc. Service good. food surperb and ambience good. Would highly recommend this place, can't wait to return in the coming weeks. Avoid disappointment phone make a reservation. Also, buck the trend use cash help these local businesses in the cost of living crisis.

Service is first class! Food is excellent! I would highly recommend you stop in here at the Ship Aground Pembrey, the team couldn’t do more to make us feel at home, answer all our questions and followed up with service and great food! A good friendly pub (dog friendly in the bar) with good food - choice of pub grub, a better menu and specials board. We visited midweek on a cool wet day and it got very busy soon after we arrived so booking a table is advised if not arriving early.
