The best restaurants in South West Scotland

Just had the most magnificent brunch today. Beautifully presented and delicious to eat. First class food and service. 😊

Afternoon tea with friends - sandwiches were delicious as were the cakes. Service was very good with friendly staff. We took our own bottles of wine, corkage charged which standard The crockery was an mis match which is the tearooms concept but not sure about it. Inside was lovely decorated, however it was a nice sunny day and we sat outside. We were effectively sitting in a carpark. Two of the tables had seen better days. In all was good experience but the shabby chic is a little too shabby for me

The Gillespie Centre is based in a refurbished former church building in the centre of the town and aside from the café the building is used for many community events. It’s operated by Biggar Kirk and most, if not all of the staff are volunteers. The café hours are limited to the earlier part of the day (10am - 2.30pm or thereabouts) so best to check online. It’s self-serve and a bright and modern setting. When we last dropped in it was very busy and noisy in the main area of the café. I guess a kid’s club or some such event had recently finished and consequently there were lots of adults and children having lunch. The other section which overlooks the High Street was fully occupied so we just had to embrace the noise level. As we had our grandchildren with us at the time it was probably a good distraction for them to be amongst their peers. The menu consists of soup, sandwiches, paninis, etc and there is usually a nice selection of cakes. The kids had a cheese toastie with a salad garnish & coleslaw (£5) and a filled ham roll (£3) along with cartons of apple juice (£1) so it’s not an expensive outing. My wife and I had Brie & Cranberry Paninis (£5.70) which were also served with a salad garnish & coleslaw. We all had a cake to finish off - sponge with icing, plain scone and paradise slice all reasonable priced between £2.20 - £2.50. The food was very good (and inexpensive by today’s standards) and the staff serving were local and very pleasant so it’s easy to recommend. I’m sure it has quiet moments at times.

On this occasion, I collected an Afternoon Tea for Two on Friday 21 February for my friend and myself. It was a feast of scrumptious delights from start to finish, especially the huge meringues!! We discovered this cafe today with our wee granddaughter, cosy, friendly atmosphere, staff exceptionally helpful and polite, we felt very welcome. Cakes were fresh and tasty (the coffee cake was the best I’ve ever had). Would recommend

Been going to Fran’s regularly for years and staff are always friendly, welcoming and a good laugh. Food and coffee always made to a high standard. Nice modern and clean dining area.

Well from getting greeted by pleasant staff for my ride down favourite place to have my coffee and roll in slice sausage and onions this is my favourite view out to sea, a shelter would be nice in the rain but the coffee makes up for it

Venue is stunning. Super cute and cosy feel. Staff were nice, but I do feel they lacked enthusiasm and communication. We waited 20 minutes for our first 2 drinks (beer and a porn star martini) 40 minutes for our second 2 cocktails. We were given one drink free as we had waited so long. We had gone out with the intention of trying as many cocktails as we could but we felt like staff had actually forgotten about us. With only 4 tables, I find that hard to believe. When we were ordering food it all went pretty easy. The food took a respectable time to come out and it was actually pretty tasty! After our food was cleared the waitress asked if we wanted another beer over, i said yes but my friend was about to order and she walked away. We had been in the restaurant from 6-8pm had our meal and 6 drinks and generally felt a bit deflated after it. On a brighter note. When we did get the cocktails they were amazing, the place was clean and food was really nice. Just might get a takeaway instead next time.

My wife and i visited for lunch today. This was our second visit to the Clydesdale restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The service we received during our visit was excellent. Our waitress was attentive but not interfering. This contributed greatly to our enjoyment of the meal. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and you feel relaxed and comfortable in this setting. The Clydesdale offers a different dining option and is an asset to the area.

One of the best takeaways in Irvine. Great selection of food which is always good quality, staff are always very friendly and prices are reasonable.

We've visited this restaurant a few times, making use of their "Loyalty For Locals" card giving us 10% discount. Even without the discount card it's always good value for money. We visited again recently. As always never disappointed. But this time the food and service excelled. The standout dish was a starter from the "Specials" menu on Sunday, the "Pork Belly Chunks" starter, the pork belly complete with it's sauce absolutely hit the spot, an inspired creation, it was delicious. The best we've had here and possibly the best starter we've had anywhere. Washed down with the red Paarl Heights Shiraz. We've visited on and off for years, back when the restaurant used to be located on the right as you enter the front door, these days now a function room, and for the last several years now the restaurant is on the left where they extended into it's current location. All very well done and the restaurant just seems to go from strength to strength. We've never had a bad meal here but our recent visit was especially good.
