Unexpectedly good strong coffee at the Ardmhor ferry terminal on Barra. The sausage and Stornoway black pudding rolls were stuffed full and encased in the lightest flakiest pastry. In addition there was a good selection of cakes. There is an outdoor deck overlooking the Sound of Barra. A hidden gem and definitely worth arriving early for your ferry to Eriskay.

Founds this pop-up by accident one day and made a point of returning the next. Brilliant local seafood, thoughtful and tasty accompanying ingredients, well cooked and delightfully served.

Inspired by the “EatDrinkHebrides” trail map, popped in to collect a picnic lunch during a Hebridean road trip. We had the most amazing toasties and hot chocolate. Handy for the ferry. Worth a detour!!

It is a trademark of local enterprise, tbh the fact that the owners and co workers are on first term names with everyone that enters makes it the personal connection that may not be achieved elsewhere. In actual fact I turned up at closing time but was accommoded gracefully, forgiving my lack of timekeeping. This place is iconic from the fabric of what Barra used to be and its healthy to see it thriving under local guidance . The castlebay Street used to be a meeting centre of all ages and now thanks to Janet Boyd and her great efforts I see a bit of community come back to the street 😀 many thanks Alex

Stunning view and friendly, efficient staff in a small family-run hotel. The quality of food was excellent, but fully grown humans may wish to order two main courses each, such was the rather miserly amount of actual food - scallops and monkfish respective.y - on our plates. Top marks for presentation and taste, but would have loved a little more.

A good cafe for breakfast and lunches serving basic fare ( everything with chips !) and home baking. Open from 8.30 am until last food orders at 3 pm. I had a bacon and black pudding roll which contained a substantial slice of Stornoway black pudding. Waited 20 minutes for it despite the cafe being almost empty. The cafe has an outdoor deck with views over the sea and it is adjacent to the Kilbride campsite. It has free WiFi.

Was a little rough around the edges compared to other places we had stayed. However they provided us with a warm place to sleep and wow what a breakfast in the morning. Marion certainly knows how to feed you. Full Scottish breakfast we could not really eat it as there was so much. The hosts were really charming.

Nothing like the hype reviews or the Facebook photos. The cafe is quaint shared with a corner Post office but that’s where it ends. The menu is minimalist with nothing like the webpage. The food menu on the blackboard was mostly not available. Don’t expect any wide range of baking apart from a few cinnamon buns in a grubby display cabinet. Coffee was ok but not worth the drive. There was only one sandwich available at 11:30 and a 45 minute wait on any other order, subject to the oven bake capacity. Nowhere near a 5 star.

Despite being in this chip shop with an exemption lanyard round my neck on previous visits this time the owner shouted at me to wear a mask. He was shouting that because I was exempt doesn't mean he is and he could catch covid from me! There was a large hard plastic screen between me and the staff and none were wearing a mask themselves. I went to car and wore the mask which then resulted in me hyperventilating. And to top things off the food was substandard

Popped in here a couple of times while in Barra. The staff are welcoming, the cakes are delicious (and change daily) and the coffee is good - I need nothing more

Having booked a table for dinner online and requesting seating where we could bring our dog, we arrived to be told we could sit in the bar - not a problem. However we were then informed the only food available was bar snacks which basically was something & chips in a basket. Not what we were expecting! We therefore left and spent our £60 elsewhere. The logic of this management decision escapes me completely. The food is prepared in the same kitchen and on this occasion the restaurant was quieter than the bar. Still we voted with our feet and this place has lost our business not only for this meal but any others for the rest of our 2 week stay.
