It is a trademark of local enterprise, tbh the fact that the owners and co workers are on first term names with everyone that enters makes it the personal connection that may not be achieved elsewhere. In actual fact I turned up at closing time but was accommoded gracefully, forgiving my lack of timekeeping. This place is iconic from the fabric of what Barra used to be and its healthy to see it thriving under local guidance . The castlebay Street used to be a meeting centre of all ages and now thanks to Janet Boyd and her great efforts I see a bit of community come back to the street 😀 many thanks Alex

As well as being a post office, this is also a lovely cafe. They do excellent coffee and other drinks and cakes and scones. The scones are especially good, served with cream and jam. No savoury dishes or sandwiches. There are five or six tables inside and four bench tables outside where you can enjoy a view of the castle in the bay with your scones - unless there is a post van blocking your view! Friendly staff.

Our first bike-in tea room experience in the Outer Hebrides was NOT a disappointment. A warm & cosy little venue with a conversant & welcoming staff. SADLY, but perhaps to be expected based on the locally reputed quality of their scones, none were available on the day of our visit. We would advise an earlier arrival than ours. A fine cup of tea and interactions with local and international clients compensated. An intimate setting on Castlebay's harbour street near the Bank of Scotland facing Kisimul Castle and close to a petrol depot if needed.

We have visited Macroon's Tea Room at the Post Office many times and every time we have been greeted by the enthusiastic proprietors. The cake is beyond nice - the only criticism on our most recent visit was that they had run out of the Raspberry and Custard cake which is the best cake I have ever tasted. We had to 'make do' with the Lemon Drizzle and Coffee and Walnut cakes which were a revelation in themselves. The coffee is also good, and the view through the window excellent even in the rain.

We visited the Macroon's tea room because they were staying in the Macroon's Loft above. The scones we ate while drinking tea were fantastic, but even more so the loft we stayed in for four days. On a 28 day trip between the Inner and Outer Hebrides Islands, this was the best place we've been and will take to our hearts.Everything corresponded to the photographs and description, everything was very refined, but above all very clean. And with a direct view of Kisimul Castle! If it were not because it was so far from Italy, certainly to return there! I recommend it to everyone.Congratulations to the managers, who were very kind and discreet.I add the English translation, which I hope is correct.

The (10 out of 10) scones and the raspberry and custard cake are delicious, as are every other cake we’ve tried, and they do great coffee too. It’s very good value for money. Lovely tearoom in the post office at the heart of the village of Castlebay. Among the best (and largest) fruit scones I have tasted, served with excellent tea and great island hospitality. Very reasonable prices, encouraging several visits during one stay. Only disappointment during my very first visit was the scones being sold out, "forcing" me to try a different cake, which was also fabulous :). I will most definitely be back the next time I am on Barra.

That’s one slice of coffee and walnut cake, and one cup of tea. In fact £11.50 - They know you’re a tourist, and the chances of you going back are slim so they can charge what they like. Ok yes it’s an island so you expect prices to be above average but this was excessive. Yes, the cake was ok but the price leaves a bad taste

I have to admit, this is the first time I have ever ordered a coffee and a scone in a post office, but the weather was glorious, and we sat outside in the sunshine. it was just lovely. the view was beautiful, the coffee was perfectly bitter and creamy, and the scone with cream and jam was to die for. the scone had obviously been baked that morning, and had a gorgeous crunchy crust, and it wasn't too sweet, so that you could pile on as much jam and cream as you could fit in your mouth. the service was great, the scone was great, the coffee was great, and had I wanted to post a letter, im sure that would also have been great. just a perfect start to the day.

Tiny, tiny café adjoining the post office, so ended up sat outside on what was not an especially warm day. Lovely range of buns (wish I had spotted the scones before I selected something else!). I do wish people would make weak black tea when asked, rather than serving a pot of off-the-boil water and a teabag.
