Booked on line (2 plus dog) for an evening meal only to be told on arrival that we would need to eat in the bar; no issue with that, it’s very common generally. Unfortunately it turned out that the extensive restaurant menu “is not available” in the bar and the choice was from a very limited and unimaginative separate bar menu. Can someone explain to me why, if the food comes from the same kitchen, it isn’t possible to serve both options in the bar? Voted with our feet and went to Am Politician on Eriskay, excellent meal and no inane segregation.

Having booked a table for dinner online and requesting seating where we could bring our dog, we arrived to be told we could sit in the bar - not a problem. However we were then informed the only food available was bar snacks which basically was something & chips in a basket. Not what we were expecting! We therefore left and spent our £60 elsewhere. The logic of this management decision escapes me completely. The food is prepared in the same kitchen and on this occasion the restaurant was quieter than the bar. Still we voted with our feet and this place has lost our business not only for this meal but any others for the rest of our 2 week stay.

We have a lovely evening meal here whilst staying at the Kilbride campsite for two nights. The staff were very friendly and the food (langoustine, lobster and sea bass linguine) was excellent. A very enjoyable evening completed by a stunning sunset.

We went for dinner not expecting much having eaten in ‘Am Politician’ (good reputation) and being very disappointed, therefore expecting that to be the standard of the Island. We were very pleasantly surprised! The food was first class and the service from Ross equaled it. We left feeling very satisfied and enjoyed it so much that we have booked to go back.

I had a table booked for dinner , booked through the Inn website and received two confirmations and reminders. I turned up today to find the door locked ! I phoned the number on the door and was informed very curtly that the ‘restaurant was closed’. No apology. I asked why customers were not informed of closure and was just told again ‘ the restaurant is closed’. Absolutely shocking . I’ve been a frequent customer over the years but won’t be returning .

Awful experience. After visiting South Uist for 29 years and visiting this lovely Inn on many a happy family occasion - we just experienced the worst service ever. I made a booking for Dinner 2 days in advance with a £40 deposit . 2hrs before we were due to go the Manager called to say because it was Low Season he was only serving « Gin, Whisky & no sea food « After discussing what was available on the menu , we said we would still attend. However when we turned up the doors were locked , the restaurant dimly lit and no staff visible. We drove round the back to the kitchen and spoke to the Manager who said he didn’t think we were coming . He was only serving residents. We went home very very disappointed in the current Management & Ownership of Polochar Inn.

We stopped there while waiting for our afternoon ferry and had a really tasty brunch. The service was very good and the food certainly hit the spot. It serves its purpose if you are weary and need some refreshments but the place needs a serious look at itself. An absolutely terrible selection of beers. Carling? Really? Folk come to these parts for authenticity so getting in a range of Scottish ales/beers would be great! The food was passable but again fresh local ingredients would make it so much better. The atmosphere was absolutely non existent although the staff were nice enough so kudos to them. This was in the bar area so I can't comment on the rest. The owners need to get the basics rights and not just try and cater for the green welly brigade. There are a couple of establishments near that are at bursting point, what are they doing correctly? The basics.

We stayed here for one night after exploring Uist and because we were booked onto the ferry the next morning to Mallaig. Our options were limited because we booked late, but after looking at the website and knowing we'd be travelling all day, we thought we would indulge in some luxury, so we paid £189 for a superior double en suite sea view room with breakfast. First of all, the staff are great - friendly, professional and happy to help. The location is superb and the views are fantastic. However, there are many things wrong with this hotel. While the bed was comfy, the room was far from superior - the shower didn't fit in the holder, no biscuits, no water, the toilet roll is cheap, the toiletries are meh and it certainly did not feel superior! Worse still, the rooms are dated and stuffy and I spent some time trying to address the fact that our door didn't shut! On top of that, we couldn't partake of breakfast as our ferry was at 8:30 the next morning - the staff said we could help ourselves to toast and cereal - for £189! For less than the £189 we paid to stay here, I've had offers of packed lunches and early breakfasts at other hotels when we have had to check out earlier. Do they not realise that many of their guests will be up early to catch the 8:30 ferry? We had dinner, which was delicious - however, the staff are run off their feet. We waited 30 minutes for a round of drinks and 50 minutes for 2 main courses. Overall, unacceptable for the price. We had had 2 weeks touring Scotland and the Isles at this point and paid £189 to stay in a mediocre hotel that was outshone by many establishments who were both cheaper and run more effectively. Including dinner, we spent £300 at this establishment and didn't even have breakfast. We understand management has changed recently and maybe this is the problem. We wish them the best of luck!

The location is breathtaking: overlooking the sea. We started our dinner outdoors and there were smiles all round simply because of the ethereal view of the sky and sea. The menu was mouthwatering and a lot of us chose the special that was on that day which was unusual and, when it arrived, delicious. (Beetroot paella with sea trout). Service for dinner was a little on the slow side but there were quite a few of us. They are dog friendly.

Ate in the bar as we had our dog with us which was fine, plenty of banter and noise as Scotland were in the process of beating Norway at football. The food could not be faulted, especially the fish, but that should be the case here. No cask beer, but that’s one of the drawbacks of coming to Scotland in most eateries. Dog friendly as opposed to dog tolerant in the bar area. Service was a little slow, this being a busy Saturday night, but this does seem to be the case these days, especially in more remote locations.

The reason for our "expedition" to the Outer Hebrides this past summer (August) was to visit as many of the ancient, megalithic sites as paossible, from Barra to Lewis. When in my research of South Uist sites I came upon the Pollacher Standing Stone in close proximity to the Polochar Inn I knew we were in for a special treat. My wife and I visited the standing stone earlier in the day, so when Rosemary, our host at our B&B, offered to book us a table at the hotel for dinner we were excited that we would get to see the stone in evening light also. But, what about the restaurant and the food? The dining room includes a small bar. The real pub is in another room. For those of us who prefer eating in a quieter atmosphere the dining room is best. The menu was varied and it took some time to decide on our dinners. I ended up choosing the chicken breast over veggies and Mary had the salmon. Both entrees were very good and we certainly did not leave the table hungry. An extra special pleasure for me was that a bottle of Innis & Gunn Original Ale was available from the bar. The view of the sea, past the carpark (with the perky sheep dog), was great!!!

Dinner for four was not inexpensive but was for three of us completely tasteless. One exception was the scampi - recommended by the cheery and friendly lass from Yorkshire - my hubby thought it was very good. I had sea bass and two large fillets appeared. Unfortunately the creamy sauce appeared completely unseasoned as were the soggy vegetables and I removed a lot of bones from the first few mouthfuls which made me nervous to eat the rest without checking very carefully. The salmon starter was good but very little of it. The weather wasn’t great that night so the views weren’t good and I suspect they are amazing on a good evening with sunsets worth photographing if you are lucky but the staff were the best thing about this place on the night we were there.

It’s in beautiful location and setting. We went to try the lunch and we were not disappointed with food and service again. Will definitely go back for that strawberry cheese cake and sticky toffee pudding.

Starter -one scallop for £6.95?!! We were in 2 or three restaurants/cafès in Uist like the pier at Kalinn who do a plateful of scallops for slightly more than Polochar's ONE. Westford Inn does great seafood including scallops, yes you get lots more than one. Polochar are taking the mickey. I knew there were other people complaining the night we were in. Who puts ONE scallop on a plate and thinks the charge £6-7.00 is justified? Not even an expensive restaurant in London would go to these miserly, money-grabbing lengths. Very poor and inhospitable. We will not be back.

Visited with my 2 sons in June 2019. It's quite small but a pleasant environment. Not a huge menu but covers everything you could possibly want ie all the food groups.. I had the scallop starter, 1 son the chowder, the other I can't remember, but the presentation of everything was excellent, as was the taste. We all had a different main and again the presentation was lovely, portion size good, oh and it tasted good. For pudding we decided to have the top 4 items on the menu, as we couldn't decide. What a good decision. All were magnificent, though the churro possibly stole first position, just. We were c£100 which wasn't cheap, but was good value and we would certainly go back.

Family lunch, staff were friendly, food was great. Huge tv on in the background was a bit of a distraction (particularly for small kids!), but we could have probably avoided that if we'd eaten away from the bar area,

We popped in here for lunch whilst travelling up the islands by bike. We were welcomed with open arms even though we were wet and dirty, shown to a very nice table and served with a beautiful bowl of chowder to help us on our way.

We had booked 3 nights stay here but were a day late arriving as our ferry was cancelled, owing to fog. A 7 unit site with 2 showers with a toilet in the same room [En-suite]. One of the rooms was, imo, suitable for disabled guests. The facilities were clean with no extra charge for the showers. As the area was "remote" from the main site - hundred yards away and out of sight of the main site - access through the gate, into the shower/toilet block and chemical disposal point was by padlock code or Door Key Code. It worked and probably necessary as adjacent to the main road but slightly annoying. Good water supply and Grey water runoff easily accessed. The most expensive site we used in our holiday through the Outer Hebrides but West Harris Trust is a Community Charity so any profits presumably channelled back into Community Projects

We have just enjoyed a stunning meal at Number 30. Beautiful seafood chowder, then we shared the cod & seabass main dishes, very differently prepared, both delicious. We couldn’t resist the cranachan & pannacotta desserts, deliciously light & yummy. All in a peaceful airy room, with friendly attentive service.

To dull & boring HATE IT WHEN IT GETS OVERCROWDED WITH PEOPLE. FEELS LIKE AN OVEN. SHOULD PUT RESTRICTIONS IN PLACE TO LIMIT AMOUNT OF PEOPLE THAT GO UPSTAIRS TO THAT CAFÉ. SHOULD MAKE PEOPLE PAY TO ENTER THAT PLACE AT THE FRONT DOOR 🚪 INCLUDING TOURISTS TOO
