Food was excellent and the Guinness was top notch. Prices were very reasonable and staff were extremely friendly. Would love to return sometime.

No nonsense place in a fairly remote spot on the Isle of Eriskay. The food is typical pub fare, but none the worse for that; fish and chips was excellent as were the other options we tried over the four nights that we ate in here. Very friendly staff. Usual selection of keg beers. No cask, but that’s nothing new in Scotland. Dog friendly as opposed to dog friendly. Best to book early if you’re looking for a specific time.

We had a very early lunch after we'd got the ferry across and had a walk on the beach. The weather was excellent so we sat outside but I understand it's all dog friendly which is great. The food was decent pub food, we had some fish as we could see the sea! It's one of a very few places to eat in Eriskay and S Uist, but is worth a visit as it does serve a good quality meal. It's a slightly odd/soulless building but we were told it had been built so it could be converted into a house if the business had failed. Which does explain it!

Have visited several times in recent years and it gets better each time. Good food, lovely beer garden, dog friendly, on the beach, vegan and vegi meals, lovely staff, open seven days. It’s worth a trip. Thanks guy’s thoroughly enjoy visiting

What an amazing little pub , we ate here almost every night of our weeks holiday . Everyone was so friendly the service was excellent and the food was always red hot and plentiful at a very reasonable price . My favourite was the monkfish scampi . We will definitely be back . Thank you 😊

We popped in for lunch after a trip around Barra . The scenery is absolutely beautiful the islands just keep giving. We had a delightful lunch, I had monk fish scampi and Karen had hand dived scallops both were fantastic, the staff and locals were fantastic friendly and chatty and weren’t put off by our barking basil !! In fact they gave him some fish and chips in a doggie bag 😁 thanks for a lovely lunch must come back again xx

We were on holiday, and at the end of every day, one phrase which was guaranteed to raise a smile was, shall we go to the politician? Such a warm and welcoming place with delightful staff. You won’t go away hungry, they serve hearty portions of delicious home-made food. I feel quite sad writing this review and thinking back to our happy times last week; I’m yearning to be there.The politician felt very much like our local in such a short space of time and it’s a highlight of our stay on South Uist. Thank you all for making us so welcome.

Excellent food, lovely welcoming pub, we both had the homemade lasagna which was exceptional, probably the best lasagna I have eaten in a long time. We also had excellent homemade desserts, sticky toffee pudding was delicious and my husband had homemade meringue which he said was lovely. Would highly recommend. I would definitely visit again if I lived nearby. If you are in the area please visit it’s lovely. Not only the food but the welcome is warm and friendly. It’s also very reasonable for the quality of the food. 2 courses plus drinks less than £40.

Had an enjoyable family meal here. The amount of pate they gave me for my starter was enormous! Monkfish scampi was very tasty and the best bit of the whole meal for me had to be the cranachan. A little bit of Scottish heaven in a pot! Thoroughly recommend, although you may decide to walk back across the causeway later because you’re so full!!

Called in for a fantastic lunch, appetite friendly and dog friendly! Had the steak pie followed by cranachan and it was all home made, absolutely delicious and arrived quickly. Nice atmosphere and didn't feel at all rushed. Seems popular and the staff were friendly and helpful. Beautiful beach at the back of the pub - conservatory tables had a great view and looks like plenty of outdoor seating in the garden out back too. I sat in the bar as I had a dog and was very comfortable. Would definitely revisit and recommend!

Friendly first rate pub. We ran in drenched (Storm Betty) and the staff immediately poured us drinks and sat us down in the lovely bright conservatory dining room. We ate here on all three evenings of our stay in Eriskay. Very good food. Always well presented and delicious. The staff were very attentive and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Very family friendly, dog friendly and wet walkers friendly.

We wanted to go to the Am Politician for dinner because of its association with Whisky Galore. We found the pub lively and thriving, with a good atmosphere. The food was good, as was the service. Whilst there is little choice of places to eat in this part of the world, I would still go back.

Popped in here lunchtime on Wednesday 9/8/23. Sat in the beer garden and the scampi and scallops were delicious. Beer wasn’t too bad either.

Booked in advance (would recommend as it does get busy). The eating area is lovely with great views of the coast. There is a separate gluten-free menu, although most non-pasta dishes are suitable. Tasty food and generous portions. Very friendly staff too. Would definitely recommend.
