From entering the cafe the staff appeared to have plenty of time to stand around and chat to each other rather than serve a queue of customers. Upon reaching the till the two female staff members were stood chatting, only one was was actually doing some working as she was preparing hot drinks. After several minutes we had asked politely if we could order food as we were told that they stopped taking food orders after 4.30pm. One member of staff was making drinks whilst the other just talked and said she would be with us in a minute. That staff member then muttered to her colleague and pointed, nodded and laughed at us. The attitude and lack of customer service skills was utterly appalling to say the least. We were then spoken to by another member of the team like crap, no manners or respect was given as we were awaiting glasses to be given to us which we had to ask for 3 times, so that we could get some water. We were also waiting to collect the hot drinks that were ordered. We were expected to move further back down the queue in the opposite direction of the water tank. So very unsure what was expected of us in order to fill the glass with water. After pointing this out she was continually being rude and abrupt and continued to ask us to move in the opposite direction to rejoin the queue of customers awaiting to be served. I had then asked to speak with the manager, the male turned round and he was also rather abrupt and rude and lacked skills in how customers should be spoken too. Not one apology was given by any of the staff in the cafe. The seating area was filled with empty tables uncleared and we had to clear our own table. After a discussion at the table our party of 5 had discussed contacting head office and suddenly the attitude of the staff changed and the manager had made an effort to be nice. Albeit to little too late!! His attitude before was also rude and disrespectful, if he wants customers to be polite and respectful then I suggest this works both ways, our response was a reflection of their attitude and sheer disrespect towards us as customers. Upon leaving and entering the food hall we were heading for Aisle two to access the toilets. A lady had over heard us and the level of service from this lady was high end in comparison to what we had just encountered. We had a discussion with this lady who apologised on behalf of the experience we had encountered and she was absolutely lovely. 10/10. During our visit I may also add that several loud smashing bangs came from behind the counter several times as crockery had been dropped and broken. The staff seemed to be in a rush to finish but had no time for the customers.
I was trying the new menu and it was really interesting. Bold flavours playing with Scottish products. Plenty of veggie and vegan options out of the classic (the vegan pastrami sandwich was amazing). Affordable prices. 100% recommended.
Tempted by the cake and pastry selection in the window, we called in for breakfast. The beautifully prepared granola dish (£6) and bacon ciabatta roll (£4) were delicious. The servers were friendly, attentive and efficient. Given the time of day we passed on the wonderful looking cakes. The only complaint was the cold breeze emenating from the open window for take away customers.
After a long journey I was really looking forward to popping in and buying some olives and cheeses and treating myself to lunch today - BIG mistake - terrible service - both waiters ignored me and then one reluctantly came. I asked for a coffee and a menu. Having told me the specials a coffee arrived and no attempt to return and ask what I would like for lunch. I left as soon as I could and without buying anything from the shop. When I arrived home - I live nearby- regaled what happened to my flat mate -she said oh my I have been in there a couple of times recently and they will serve others before me so I just ended up walking out! What a disappointment, it’s a place I recommend all the time to others and visitors - never again
as stated in title we had some difficulty finding the location as it was set above the road below. once found it met our hunger and poached eggs hit the spot. well done
This was a great choice for a quick breakfast visit before heading for the train.
There are a number of places to eat and drink within this section of Edinburgh however the views of the pastries as we went past looked too tempting to resist! I also liked how spacious it looked inside as well as a lot of places can be a bit cramped and we had our luggage with us as well.
I chose the raspberry croissant and an oat chai latte - both were lovely.
The staff too were very pleasant and service was quick.
The coffee is great but the place was absolutely filthy. Dirty cups everywhere, bits of food all over the place and all the cushions/seats were horrible/stained and looked like dogs had been all over them.

My family and I were excited about visiting Milk & Honey. However our experience was dire. The prices are exorbitant and the service is second-rate. The food was forgettable in a characterless environment and not worth a repeat visit. AVOID!!!
