myself and 2 friends met up for the first in 40 years in here. It’s a nice place. We enjoyed a few beers as we waited for the kitchen to open. The food was nice, but very overpriced. The quality of the burgers is simply not at the £15.50 level.

Never got through the door as I have two dogs who love dog friendly pubs, there were two staff behind the bar and not a single customer? Then I read they need Tuesdays off for a rest? The pub was closed down last time we visited Cramond and I can only imagine it will be closed down again pretty soon.

A Sam Smiths pub (they're a Yorkshire company) just by the Cramond Causeway, is in a beautiful spot overlooking the Firth of Forth in the village of Cramond. It's a very old pub, full of character and charm, with cosy fireplaces and nooks and crannies, and various rooms. They do food, but I never ate, although I have done before in a Sam Smiths pub, and they're usually very good. All the bar snacks are top notch too, and I love their beef crisps. The alcohol they do is their own brands, from beers, ciders and spirits, and they're all good quality, especially the stout, which is easy to drink. Cheap too, at just under ten quid for two pints. The Cramond Inn has nearly been lost in recent years and it's in danger of being so again. It's not just a community pub, but one for all. A very friendly, historic place to go and unwind and forget about the world and its problems. Being a Sam Smiths, it has no TVs, no music, no slot machines, and no mobile phones or electronic devices allowed, BUT that's a good thing in my opinion. We're all too addicted to them anyway, and the break for a couple of hours won't do us any harm. The staff are friendly and lovely. Go, grab one of the board games there, or a book, but or just chat to friends and strangers. It's a pub that needs to stay open. It's a hidden gem and national treasure. My only niggle would be, because of where it is, I'd allow folk/acoustic music to help bring custom in, but it's not their policy, alas. It's a perfect place for it though.

The tech free pub rule is absolutely ridiculous. No music allowed either, no atmosphere whatsoever, was dead silent. Was forced to talk to my brother which I’ve spent 28 years talking to, what else is there to talk about. Food was ok and service was good as we were the only customers inside.

Tucked away from the Cramond foreshore it took me a few visits to realise this pub even existed. I visited at night after the holiday season so it was quite quiet. It was surprising to find a Sam Smith's pub hidden on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Interestingly, this pub has a ban on using phones and other devices within the pub. It was about to be redecorated when I visited, but hopefully it will remain similar to the photos. If you visit by bus it's quite a steep hill down to the pub, and back up again.

The Cramond Inn has the potential to be a fantastic pub in a gorgeous location; however at the moment it's simply overpriced (more than £5 for a soft drink is madness!). The beer garden has a nice view, overlooking the foreshore, and with views of Cramond Island; however, it's too close to the carpark and a bit run-down.

My friend and I came across this small pub after trying to escape Edinburgh traffic, we went in for a bite to eat and a drink. Seemed like a nice cosy pub, walked to the bar and was told to wait! It wasn't busy, we just weren't a priority as we clearly weren't as affluent as its usual punters. I ordered a drink and went to the table, staff kept staring at us and it was quite uncomfortable. We ordered food, which was a bit overpriced but wasn't a real issue as it was pub grub in a touristy area, not a busy tourist area but none the less. Food was average for what it cost and the drinks are the same, all the alcohol is from an English brewery and there is no other choice(I think they may be owned by them). I won't document the whole visit but the biggest things to know are we were basically invited to leave after our meal, kept getting stared at by staff and no real service. The only things that were brought to our table was the food, everything else was left unattended on the bar till we collected it. Even with all that, the most bitter pill came when I ordered a coffee, a latte! There's no easy way to say this, it was £5.90!! Again, I was surprised but not completely as it is a touristy area and I expected it to be some real good coffee... My utter shock when the bar person went to the coffee machine and pressed Latte😂 The pub has no signal, no WiFi and signs everywhere stating phones are banned but conversation is encouraged. Bar staff spend every possible second on their phones hiding in nooks and crannies around the bar then get annoyed when you try to talk to them! Good food, rubbish atmosphere, staff are pure raging!

We were there because we were waiting for low tide to hike to Cramond Island (also highly recommended). The atmosphere was great, very traditional and cozy including a real fireplace. There was the opportunity to sit in a digital detox zone, but also rooms in which you were allowed to use your digital devices. The lemonade on tap was very tasty and refreshing, and the food was varied and lovingly prepared. In addition, the service staff was very friendly. I can fully recommend the Inn.

First time visiting Cramond inn and most definitely be my last..I was told to put my mobile phone away as the pub has a strict policy in place, no mobile phones or laptops to be used on the pubs property... I only wanted to use my phone to check with my online banking app to see how much the drinks cost me because the young female bar lady never told me how much my drinks cost I just tapped my bank card to her bank reader so I wanted to check the bank transaction. I was told could I please put away my mobile phone by a different lady then she pointed to the poster on the wall no mobiles or laptop to be used on the premises then I noticed all the beer mats saying the same...I agreed to put the mobile away then the same woman that told me to put my phone away goes to another part of the pub and starts talking on a phone. This upset me and I just wanted to drink up and leave the pub. I did ask the young female bar lady about the 4 beer gift back on the shelves how much do they cost... She took them down from the shelves to look for a price when she couldn't find the price she replied I don't know coz ive never sold any and put them back on the shelves then carried on with her job obviously she couldn't be bothered to check with her manager what the price was. I do think these bar lady need customers service training.. they were absolutely dreadful and so far the worst Scottish pub we have so far visited

I think we had some bad luck but it took a long time for the food to arrive. Also only some parts of the pub were warm - would recommend trying to sit close to /in the room with the fire if possible. The food was not bad - pretty standard but filling and there was a good selection to choose from the menu. Given the limited selection of places to choose in Cramnd, it is not a bad choice, but could be a touch more comfortable or cozy especially for colder months.

Have to put one star to get on here to review. Just arrived from away and staying in a cottage across the rd. We were very hungry and looking forward to eating in The Cramond inn only to be told no dogs allowed . We were going to eat and drink there every tea time as just across the rd .They have lost alot of money from us . Since found out Samual Smith own the pub ppfftt of all the people that could own the pub it had to be them . The most boring owners anybody could wish for to own a pub . They need to get with it and allow dogs for a start . We travel all over England and never had a problem .Come to Cranford and could not believe it . Hes a lap dog and would of just laid at our feet . No bother . Everywhere is dog friendly in this day and age . Just a certain area would be enough .Could make alot more money if allowed dogs . Also whats wrong with a little soft background music for ambience ? As for cash only hmm thats for one reason only but wont put on here .Also no phones , i'd say its controlling . People will still chat if they want to .Anyway we had to get a takeaway but thats fine they are the ones losing money . All the dogs we saw on the beach side as well . Samual Smith get in the real world . This is not against the managers . This is purely for owners !

Avoid at all costs. Overpriced, disgusting food. Toilets a mess and had to kick way out of door. All 3 of us had dodgy tummies the next day. After we called to talk to the management (rather than complain publicly) we were reluctantly offered a refund (no apology). On going there to obtain the refund, the manager showed us to a side room, presumably to avoid embarrassing the other customers. He proceeded to instead embarrass himself by being extremely rude and aggressive with no provocation from us. How can someone mess up a frozen steak pie and 2 chicken burgers that badly?

The food was awful, overpriced and made us ill. We phoned to speak to the manager and they reluctantly offered a refund. When we returned we were pulled into a side room where the manager/chef was so rude to us, even though we had been completely pleasant and it was their fault in the first place. He told us the food was all frozen - £14 for a tiny steak pie that isn’t even homemade!! Such a shame as this place could be so nice. Will not be returning based on the managers rudeness! 2 female bar staff were lovely however.

Very traditional looking and feeling pub which I had been to before. Hadn’t really changed and that’s fine, it promotes itself as a technology free pub No TV,mobiles or music just conversation! which is fine by me but when it’s quiet and nobody in it feels like a morgue. We were in the area for a wedding and dined here. The food was good and staff very pleasant, friendly & attentive although you have to go the bar to order and pay for everything upfront? Had lunch here specifically to view the plaque relating to the Richard III society, but learnt from staff that it had been taken down as it didn't fit in with the time period the pub was supposedly set in (which meant no mobile phones, or any electronic equipment). Okay, but then why have the electronic credit card reader? Pure hypocrisy - and very disappointed customers. If you can make an exception to have a credit card reader then you can make an exception for what is a historic plaque. There will be a lot more disappointed customers who visit to see that plaque when the excellent film 'The Lost King' goes on general release on TV. Clearly the manager did not have his marketing hat on when he made the decision to remove the plaque. The whole meal was spoilt as a result. I live in hope that the manager returns to his senses and restores the plaque to its rightful place ... but I'm not holding my breath.

Can't give this place a 0 or we would've gave it that. Visited Saturday afternoon 24/06/23. Staff not very welcoming at all. We entered the place, stood by the bar to see if they had a table. A young man behind the bar just looked right through us, pretty much as if we weren't there. we were eventually noticed by the female member of staff and told to take any seat. We orders 2 greek salads. Salads arrived very quickly, but the salads were very disappointing to say the least! Bowl of salad with a few olives a couple of tomatoes, tiny cubes of feta. No dressing or any signs of herbs. Greek salads has olive oil not the brine from the jar that the olives came out of. Pretty basic salad to make unfortunately this place can't make it. £31 for 2 salads, glass of rose wine and a sparkling water. Will not be back here, and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Was out for a walk and stopped for coffee and possible lunch ,on entry discovered that Cash only not allowed to use electronic devices and if you want food they only serve 1 table every 20 min and must be booked ,most people dont carry lots of cash as most use cards or phone to pay ....Feel sorry for the Staff having to Repeat the rules to every person coming in ..iwill happily take my custom somewhere else next time ..

I used to love this pub but I went in today and had to do something for work on my phone. I was told to get of my phone because your not allowed to use it in there. Absolutely shocking wont be back. And the prices are shocking to.

Cash only with no card machine near by. What a waste of a potentially great pub.

Lovely old pub, and definitely not deserving of its run down description given by many . It’s slightly shabby , but then again it’s one of Edinburgh’s oldest boozers - and pubs like these should be a bit worn round the edges . A bit strange that they have no card machine , not exactly a reason not to come , but has the potential to ruin your visit if you find yourself having no cash handy , especially in today’s ever increasing cashless society. They have a digital detox in place , all very well but slightly odd and has overtones of authoritarianism. Again , it’s not a deal changer and no reason not to come , but personally I’d rather there was a polite request in place rather than feeling that I was being ordered not to even look at my phone . It’s a Sam Smith pub , so the the beer selection is restricted to that particular brewery, but in my opinion that’s not a problem , their beers are as good as any other mainstream brewery. Staff have always been friendly enough when we’ve visited , and no doubt I will pop in again at some point - with cash and my phone out of sight obviously. Would of given it 4 stars but the lack of card machine and the draconian digital detox seems very odd and definitely a step backwards. 3. 5 out 5

Nice decorated interior but that was the only nice thing about it. We sat down and waited for the waitress to give us food menus (she said she would be with us in a minute but we were totally ignored). When i went to the bar to order there and ask for a menu she saw me pulling a bank card and immediately said that they dont accept cards but she was not nice or apologetic at all about it. When i asked if there was a cash machine close by all i got was a rude "no" and then told that cash machines are 1 mile away either way. As we were about to leave hungry and disappointed that a modern pub on this day and age does not accept card and we felt like we were not welcome we heard the other bar tender tell a couple of guys off for sending a text message using their phones.apparently this pub is prohibiting the use of mobile phones and although i agree that sitting in a pub should be a social event and ppl should not beon their phone constantly, i find it ridiculous that you are not allowed to send a message while sitting down for a pint. Lastly i overheard the female waitress say to these couple of guys that they had to wait 20 minutes until she could get their order !!!! So unprofessional especially as there were only 3 tables occupied and over half the place was empty. Do not go there!

5* for the comment replies, get them telt 😆 I'll pop in for a visit soon to try the food and witness the apparently underwhelming ambiance. Looking forward to it! Do you accept cryptocurrency?

Unwelcoming atmosphere: - ban on phones (not many people go to a pub to sit on their phone, surely?! The ban makes it hostile and unwelcoming) - brown drab walls - no music - the owner's response to reviews says it all about the standard of customer service Also it's cash only, which is unfortunate as there's no ATM nearby. It's a shame, this lovely little spot has a lot of potential!

Unique and special. No mainstream music blasting from the speakers so you can actually talk and or meditate. This place has its cosy corners and a fire going on a cold night. Good selection of craft beers and a relaxed non-commercial atmosphere. Suits the location of Cramond very much. Must visit if you're around!

Didnt know what to expect, as just visiting Cramond for the day. The bar didnt have a big choice of alcohol, and outside seating was really uncomfortable.

Perfect - no distractions from mobile devices, music, television, etc. Just back to basics with great beer, crisps, darts and conversation. Cash only. If we were staying locally, we'd be there every evening.

No cash. No food. No atmosphere. No friendly smile. Good beer garden. The landlord is missing a few tricks. If there was a card machine (there used to be) we'd have stayed for more than the tenners worth. He rudely told tourists at the door it's non-food on account of the sign outside. Whole section of the pub was closed off. Go if you want a pint after a nice walk... But nothing else.

So many pictures with food just to find a note on the no food served. In this location its asks for some nice fish and chips. So misleading. Ps. Dude, I was not even inside and you tell me I had an argument and was told to leave and never come back.. You have mistaken me with someone else. With that attitude no wander your ratings are so low.

I booked the Beehive for an annual get together with my cousins. There were 14 of us in our party and we all thoroughly enjoyed our evening (6pm to around midnight). The food was great and so was the service. We were given a semi-private area at the back of the upstairs, which worked perfectly for us. I am sorry that I didn't catch his name (might have been Neil?), but he worked upstairs and behind the bar and he went out of his way to make sure our party was well attended to. He definitely made our night. We will certainly be back!

I almost never leave reviews, but I felt I had to because I felt so ripped off here. I'm a local and had time to kill before work so I popped in for lunch. The staff were friendly and the service was quick, but I got the smallest piece of avocado toast I've ever seen for a tenner. I'm still hungry. I sort of knew it would be a mistake to go somewhere touristy but now I know I definitely won't be back. There are nicer places on Cockburn Street, never mind the rest of the Old Town.
