Stopped here for a light lunch. Greeted with a smile. Lovely location, looking out to sea. Whole establishment has great light.
Service was excellent. Absolutely nothing bad to say about this place. Didn't have to ask for anything, including brown sugar , which was in sachets on the table. Hooray!! Finally a place that offers it without having to plead.
I had a prawn sandwich which came on lovely fresh bread. Daughter had an egg mayo sandwich.
Couldn't believe how swiftly the food came out to everyone .
They were very busy. All ages.
Definitely one of the most enjoyable lunches I've had in a long time.
Whole establishment was spotless.
Don't drive by. Stop and enjoy a very pleasant experience. 10 out of 10 from me. And I don't say that very often!!
Visited last night. As always excellent service. New menu with lots of choice. Ginger the chef is excellent .Food of highest quality accommodates requests and the food is beautifully presented. Can never find fault with the food here and amazing value for money.
La comida es de primera clase. Restaurante íntimo que supera su peso, gran servicio y en general una experiencia que no te puedes perder si estás en Edimburgo.
Mixed shawarma not great. Lamb too chewy and chicken bland. Girl.servimg was very polite but I was overcharged. £15 for mixed shawarma, chips and naan. Did not even include a drink lol. Bread was not cooked properly. Guys cooking food looked absolutely miserable. would not return sadly as there are better places in the area.
Popped into The Bothy for morning coffee and a scone with a friend. Alas no scones - plenty of sweet cakes which we did not really fancy in the morning. So I asked if we could please have toast but the waitress didn't think so. I asked if she would mind asking in the kitchen which she did and she came back and said no sorry you can't have toast.I should have known because we had heard the gentleman next to us ask if he could have a roll with bacon and Lorne sausage together. The waitress said they did not like to deviate from the menu. On the menu there was a bacon roll and there was a Lorne sausage roll but they could not put that into one roll . Surely you try to please your customers if you want them to come back. I know my friend and I will not be rushing back.
Very handy stop-off to spend time in on a sunny Sunday whilst waiting for the few-and-far-between Arran buses. Lovely scenic spot by the beach with sea views and outdoor seating. Friendly staff who make you feel welcome, and kindly let you use the WiFi.
We stopped in here on our way to Cameron House for afternoon tea and I must say I’ve raved more about this place than the afternoon tea. We popped into the cafe but obviously had to keep our appetites so stuck with lattes (delicious) and the mini empire biscuits (amazing) . It’s a lovely eating place and is very roomy. The menu boards on the wall had some tasty sounding dishes and there were lots of yummy looking cakes on display. The shop is lovely too and I bought a custard cream/melting moment to take away which was delightful. We will definitely be back here for lunch next time we are out a run.
We went to the Shieling twice when we were staying in Poolewe. Firstly just for a snack and drink after a walk however ended up having soup and a sandwich which was very generous in portion size “he doesn’t do small “ the waitress said laughing. I had mushroom soup which was delicious and my partner had the Cullen Skink which she declared the best ever!
As it was so good we booked to return with our friends for lunch on the Friday, we all had fish and chips or scampi all of which were really fresh and tasty. The staff are really helpful and friendly and service was great. I would definitely recommend the Shieling if you are in the area but booking ahead especially in high season and weekends are a must.
We went for dinner with high expectations, but things fell short for us. The cuisine was not particularly to our liking, so our food choices were few. Cocktails were well prepared. Our final bill was outrageous for what was served in my opinion. I would not return.
I booked this for our Hogmanay family dinner for 9 people , the restaurant itself is nice and overlooks the lovely bay.
However the food I would give no more than 4 out of 10.
The starter of scallops was overcooked and the side of Kale was deep fried (it turned up late as they forgot to give us it with the scallops ) both not pleasant , the only stater that got any pass marks was the Cullen skink .
Despite us preordering our meal they still got the starters mixed up and forgot to cook the requested fish cakes which meant that one person had to wait a further 15 minutes while the rest had finished their starter.
The main courses were average and nothing special I would say bordering on disappointing .
The best course on the evening was the desserts, everyone liked their desserts.
Overall it did not put a damper on our night as it was Hogmanay and we still had time to go back to our lodge and cook or eat something better before the Midnight bell.
Overall it was nice to get out and try a different restaurant , unfortunately this one did not supply what I would call good tasty food .
Enjoyed a fantastic lunch, in the cosy welcoming atmosphere at Francos, when it was wet and blowing a Gale outside!
Great food and hospitality. We’ll definitely be back!
